White House chef Marvella (Mare Wiseman) got into an argument with A.B. over Rylance being in the kitchen and not being able to use flames for her wagyu dinner. Pastry chef Didier Gotthard (Bronson Pinchot) also took fault with A.B.'s no-flames proclamation.

L. Losada, Julieth Restrepo, Mel Rodriguez, and Rebecca Field to its heavyweight cast.

They join previously announced cast members Uzo Aduba, Andre Braugher, Edwina Findley, Molly Griggs, Jason Lee, Ken Marino, Al Mitchell, Dan Perrault, Bronson Pinchot, Susan Kelechi Watson, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Mary Wiseman, and Randall Park.

The official logline reads: “132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective. One disastrous State Dinner. Despite CBS’ decision to cancel Broke after one season, star Pauley Perrette says that her experience filming the short-lived sitcom has been invaluable.

Referring to the comedy as a “limited series” in a tweet, Perrette wrote, “This show restored my faith in people, in this industry. So Grateful I worked with this cast [and] crew. Best people I’ve Ever worked with. Healed me. Changed me. Made me whole. So Blessed.”

CBS has set premiere dates for retuning comedy Man With a Plan, starring Matt LeBlanc, and new sitcom Broke, starring Jaime Camil and Pauley Perrette. Both will join the schedule on April 2, airing in the Thursday 8:30 Pm and 9:30 Pm slot, respectively.

Man with a Plan, heading into its fourth season, will succeed Unicorn while Broke will replace Carol’s Second Act after both freshmen comedies complete their runs. Unicorn and Carol’s Second Act both received five-episode back orders from CBS for a 18-episode Season 1, short of the traditional full-season 22 episodes. Both are on the bubble for renewal.

Man With a Plan and Broke were the only remaining CBS scripted series left on the bench when the network unveiled its winter schedule in November. Also waiting in the wings is reality veteran The Amazing Race, which CBS brass may keep on the shelf as backup in case a writers...

Something old and something new will come to CBS’ schedule this spring. The network announced on Tuesday that Man With a Plan‘s fourth season will commence on Thursday, April 2 at 8:30/7:30c, taking over The Unicorn‘s time slot after the Walton Goggins-led comedy wraps its run.

The freshman sitcom Broke, starring Pauley Perrette (NCIS) and Jaime Camil (Jane the Virgin), will debut that same night at 9:30 pm, replacing Carol’s Second Act after its own season ends.

On the drama side, the Eye is adding “All Rise” and “Evil,” while on the comedy front Chuck Lorre’s “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “The Unicorn,” and “Carol’s Second Act” will all join the lineup.

From award-winning creator, executive producer and writer Chuck Lorre comes a love story about a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack and sets his sights on winning her over. Undaunted by Abishola’s (Folake Olowofoyeku) lack of initial interest or the vast differences in their backgrounds, Bob (Billy Gardell) is determined to win Abishola’s heart, in this comedic examination of immigrant life in America.

CBS has picked up three dramas and four comedies for the 2019-2020 season.

The dramas are “Evil” from Robert and Michelle King, the spinoff “FBI: Most Wanted,” and the legal drama “All Rise,” formerly known as “Courthouse.” The comedies are the multi-cams “Broke,” “Carol’s Second Act,” and “Bob Hearts Abishola” and the single-cam “The Unicorn.”

Interestingly, two former stars of the now canceled Marvel-Netflix series “Luke Cage” will appear in CBS’ new shows, albeit on different series. Mike Colter will star in “Evil” while Simone Missick will star in “All Rise.” Another Marvel-Netflix alum, Wilson Bethel, will star in “All Rise” with Missick. CBS has ordered seven pilots to series for the 2019-20 season ahead of its upfront presentation to advertisers next week. The seven series are made up of four comedies and three dramas.

Among the comedies ordered at the broadcast network are Chuck Lorre’s “Bob Hearts Abishola,” Patricia Heaton’s “Carol’s Second Act” and “Broke” from “Jane the Virgin” creator Jennie Snyder Urman. The Peyton Reed-produced “The Unicorn” with Walton Goggins and Rob Corddry was also picked up.

Heaton starred on CBS’ “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Broke” will see “NCIS” star Pauley Perrette return to the network. Telenovela alum Izzy Diaz is set as a series regular opposite Jaime Camil, Natasha Leggiero and Pauley Perrette in CBS’ multi-camera comedy pilot From Riches. It hails from Jane the Virgin creator/executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman, Will & Grace executive producer Alex Herschlag, CBS TV Studios and Propagate.

Written by Herschlag and directed by Victor Gonzalez, From Riches centers on Miguel (Camil), an outrageously wealthy trust fund baby who is cut off by his father. He and his wife Elizabeth (Leggero) then move into the Reseda condo of her estranged sister Jackie (Perrette).

VENICE, Italy -- Veteran director Brian De Palma's filmmaking skills have seldom been as razor sharp as they are in his sensational new film about members of a U.S. Army squad who rape and murder a 15-year-old Iraqi girl and slay her family.

Made on HD video and employing images from digital cameras, video recorders, Internet uploads and old-fashioned film, De Palma's movie is a ferocious argument against the engagement in Iraq for what it is doing to everyone involved.

Made so expertly that it appears to be assembled from genuine footage, the film details the extraordinary psychological pressure suffered by young soldiers on checkpoint duty in occupied areas of Iraq, and then follows one unit as two of its members skew monstrously out of control.

De Palma's screenplay is outstanding, and he draws wonderfully naturalistic performances from his youthful cast. Sympathetic to the young men who lose their way in horrible circumstances but unflinching in its depiction of the horrors that can result, the film is harrowing, but it should find responsive audiences everywhere.

A fictional story based on real events, "Redacted" distills images from an array of sources to tell its story, beginning with those captured by Angel Salazar (Izzy Diaz), a young soldier who hopes they will buy his way into film school. Clean-cut Lawyer McCoy (Rob Devaney) also wields a video camera, but Salazar goes to extremes making a daily record of almost everything he sees.

That includes conversations with the other guys in the unit: Reno Flake (Patrick Carroll), a doper whose name is apt; B.B. Rush Daniel Stewart Sherman), a blowhard with a lot of body fat; Gabe Blix (Kel O'Neill), who likes to read John O'Hara; and two sergeants, Sweet (Ty Jones) and Vazques (Mike Figueroa). They goof around for the camera off duty and Salazar even records them on duty so that when one of them is blown to pieces by a bomb left in roadside trash, he gets it all.

By then, footage from a French documentary about the unit has made clear how the monotony and constant fear of maintaining checkpoints grinds the men down. Constantly being told they have to remain on duty for a further tour, they are drained and on edge. The docu reports that over 24 months 2,000 Iraqis were killed at checkpoints with only 60 proven to be insurgents. In one such incident, a pregnant woman and her baby are killed when her brother, taking her to the hospital, races through the unit's checkpoint thinking he's been waved on.

Rush and Flake are especially vulnerable to demonizing an enemy that they don't recognize or understand. Their plan to rape the daughter of a Sunni man recently arrested comes up almost idly but then becomes one of deadly intent.

De Palma uses all his considerable talent to make clear what has happened to these young men and the performances, especially by Carroll as the callously indifferent Flake and Devaney as the conscience stricken McCoy, are first rate.

The director makes great use of Handel's "Sarabande" in the picture, the somber tones familiar as the main title music in Kubrick's "Barry Lyndon". It's a reminder that nothing depicted in this film is new and that it's a shame it needs to be told again.
