Being politically aware is one of the foremost responsibilities of a young person. In a world where your future is shaped by decisions made above you, choosing to stay uninformed about your rights and surroundings only strengthens the systems that’s built upon your silence. But when that awareness is twisted or misunderstood, the consequences can be dangerous. Netflix’s latest Swedish thriller, An Honest Life, explores what happens when a young man falls in with the wrong crowd under the guise of political ideology and a misguided rebel mentality.

Russian lit nerds will spot it right away: Raskolnikov 2.0 has arrived, and this time he’s Swedish. In the coming-of-age thriller An Honest Life, Netflix drops us into Lund University, Sweden, where yet another law student decides that moral obligations are for losers, and chasing chaos with a hot anarchist instead is a better use of his tuition. Like Dostoevsky’s brooding antihero, Simon starts to believe he’s above boring lives and boring laws, until rebellion stops being romantic and starts getting blood on his hands. Borrowing Godard and Truffaut’s favorite ingredients—politically disillusioned youth, ideological angst, and a taste for self-destruction—An Honest Life turns political romance into something far moodier and messier, with just enough noir to keep the guilt sexy.

An Honest Life plunges viewers into the conflicted inner world of Simon, a young man who arrives in Lund with dreams of becoming a lawyer—despite a buried yearning to be a writer. Adrift and hungry for something real to inspire his prose, Simon’s life takes a sharp turn when he stumbles into the orbit of a masked group of anarchists. Charismatic and elusive, their leader, Max, fronts a collective that targets Lund’s wealthy elite under the banner of fighting inequality.
What begins as an encounter soon spirals into entanglement. Simon is drawn not just to their cause but to the intoxicating thrill of rebellion and the rare feeling of belonging. But as the group’s actions grow more extreme, Simon finds himself caught in a tightening web of moral contradictions. The line between justice and criminality blurs—and by the time Simon begins to question it, he’s already in too deep.

In Netflix’s 2025 Swedish release, An Honest Life, a young law student, Simon, starts questioning the purpose of his existence when he crosses paths with a gang of bandits. Simon had always wanted to be a writer, but he didn’t have anything interesting to write about. So, he decided to pursue the next best thing—law. He figured learning the rules of the world would at least help him get a well-paying job. But soon, he realized that the race to the top of the career ladder was already rigged, and no matter what he did, the seats to the best jobs and internships were reserved for the students who came from generational wealth. Compared to his life, the lives of bandits he saw stealing jewelry on his first day at Lund seemed liberating. Their purpose resonated with him, and when he noticed one of the members, Max, waiting outside his university,...

An Honest Life’s ending was centered around a final confrontation between Charles’ bandits and Simon. Simon was a law student at Lund University who got mixed up with the wrong crowd the day he set foot in the city. He fell in love with a girl called Max, who introduced him to the anarchist named Charles and the team of thieves that worked for him—Robin, Dinah, and Gustaf. Since Simon wasn’t all that interested in becoming a lawyer, he gravitated towards this modern version of the Merry Men and began fraternizing with them on a regular basis. He officially became a part of the team when he played an integral role in the burglary of a showroom for expensive watches. The next step involved partaking in a robbery at the house of his wealthy roommate, Ludvig, but things went sideways and almost led to the death of the housekeeper,...

2019 was a big year for movies about classism. The most popular one out of the lot was Parasite, which not only talked about the massive economic chasm that exists between the upper and the lower classes but also highlighted how it leads to a lack of class solidarity between the lower classes. Knives Out was a pointed commentary on how the wealthy can’t even imagine sharing their property and riches with the child of an immigrant, even though, morally and ethically speaking, the latter had more claim on their inheritance than the former. Article 15 showed that it’s pointless to talk about class divide without bringing up caste, and the list goes on. While, in real life, the Covid-19 pandemic underscored the fact that the aforementioned chasm between classes is deeper than we had imagined, entertainment took a weird pivot into celebrating “posh behavior” under the guise of “critiquing” it.

With the release of James Gunn's Supermanofficially pushing his Dcu forward, some are looking back at those who last brought certain DC Comic characters to life. Gunn has previously confirmed that he is working on a Wonder Woman-related projects and that Matt Reeves' Batman is not a part of his universe, likely meaning he's looking for both someone to fill the shoes of Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne. That also leaves a wide berth for the rest of the Dcu, even after the healthy dose of new characters debuting in Superman. Looking back, other DC-related projects includeBirds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The 2020 film followed Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (after previously starring as her in Suicide Squad) and brought to life one of the lesser known DC Comic teams (as opposed to say The Justice League or Justice Society of America). Miss Austen fans, we have brilliant news. The historical series is getting a sequel, Miss Austen Returns, Deadline reports. The original British series, which encapsulates a very fictionalized version of the Austen family, was critically acclaimed and loved by fans. So, a follow-up is a great idea to delve into more aspects of the beloved family.
The upcoming series will be based on The Elopement by Gill Hornby, whose other work became the crux of the original series. While most details about the follow-up are kept under wraps, Keeley Hawes and key cast members are set to return. The original series was based on a score of letters between Jane and her sister Cassandra Austen and chronicles their lives and loves.
But How ‘Miss Austen Returns’?
Christine Langan, whose Bonnie Productions made the series, revealed that the idea mostly comes from Hornby’s follow-up novel, “which we optioned, and which...

Miss Austen writer Andrea Gibb is currently penning scripts. As with the earlier series, the show is expected to be a co-production with Masterpiece in association with Federation Stories and the BBC, which showed the first series in the UK.

5 TV Shows That Were Gone Too Soon—And Still Hurt Years Later ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Television is a tough business. Getting any show to the airwaves is one thing—but staying on is a different beast entirely. Some of the boldest, weirdest, and most brilliant series barely make it out of the gate before they get the axe. Whether due to budget, viewership, or plain bad timing, these shows were gone before they ran out of story. Here’s my personal ranking of the five TV shows that ended far too soon.
Over a lifetime of watching TV shows, I’ve come to realise that television show life expectancy is the exact opposite of boxing. In boxing, great fighters almost always continue when their best days are long behind them, but when it comes to TV, a metric tonne of great shows are often cancelled after one or two seasons...

Warning: Spoilers for Black Canary: Best of The Best #6The battle to determine the true champion of the DC Universe has finally ended, leaving one hero to claim the title. The fight wasn't easy, and proved to be more brutal than any comic fans expected, but there is no denying it: Black Canary has defeated Lady Shiva to claim the crown as DC's best fighter.
The dramatic victory arrives in the final issue of Tom King and Ryan Sook's stellar Black Canary: Best of The Best, chronicling the prize fight seen around the world, in which former Justice League leader Dinah Lance stood against Lady Shiva, famous as the world's most deadliest assassin. While squaring off against the most skilled killer on the planet would be doom for some, Black Canary went the distance to beat Shiva to a pulp, and put her down for the count.

Beating Netflix’s (entirely unnecessary) remake of “Pride and Prejudice,” the BBC’s spinoff “The Other Bennet Sister” and French rom-com “Jane Austen Wrecked My Life” to the proverbial punch, the 250th birthday celebrations of arguably Britain’s most cherished novelist begins with a four-part drama focusing on her elder sister.
For many literary scholars, Cassandra Austen is a villainess of Miss Norris-esque proportions. After all, her deliberate burning of her sibling’s vast personal correspondence — only 160 of her approximately 3,000 letters are still intact — largely thwarted any attempt to further understand the famously elusive author. However, “Miss Austen,” itself based on Gill Hornby’s same-named piece of historical fiction, does its best to exonerate her reputation as a cultural vandal.
The BBC original certainly comes with an impressive period drama pedigree. Director Aisling Walsh won a BAFTA for her post-war miniseries “Room at the Top,” while leading lady Keeley Hawes...

It was a trying and difficult time for the CW when Stephen Amell started out as Oliver Queen in the 2012 show Arrow. After Amell was through with his role, the Arrowverse was brought into existence.
However, there was a time when the studio was considering creating a spinoff in the Arrowverse, which could have had potentially devastating effects on Stephen Amell’s legacy.
Stephen Amell’s Arrowverse could have been ruined
Portraying the role of Oliver Queen for a total of 8 seasons, Stephen Amell found worldwide fame and critical acclaim for his role in Arrow. The result was the creation of the Arrowverse, which included shows and spin-offs like Supergirl and The Flash.

Well, in 2020, Arrow aired its last season, but the Arrowverse continued well into other spin-offs and shows. Projects like Supergirl, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow fared quite well on the CW.

For more than a decade, The CW's Arrowverse was a pillar of superhero storytelling. While the DC Extended Universe was struggling on the big screen in the 2010s, shows like "Arrow" and "The Flash" were thriving on television. So much so, in fact, that spin-offs started happening. "Supergirl," for example, was brought over from CBS, while "Superman & Lois" would eventually become a thing as well. But not all of the planned shows made it to air. Such was the case with "Green Arrow & The Canaries," which aired as a backdoor pilot in 2020.

Rumors began to do the rounds that development was already underway on a third The Last of Us game back in 2023, but co-creator Neil Druckmann debunked the reports shortly after.
However, the Naughty Dog co-president did later offer a slightly more positive update.
“I know there’s a bunch of people wondering about The Last of Us Part 3 and whether that will be a thing or not,” Druckmann told Buzzfeed last year. “All I could say is, at Naughty Dog we’re very, very privileged that our publisher is Sony — which means Sony funds our games, supports us, and we’re owned by Sony."
“Our process is the same thing we did when we did Part 2, which is if we can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love — just like the first and second game did — then we will tell that story.

The Batman villain Harley Quinn made her debut on the "Batman: The Animated Series" episodes "Joker's Favor", where she was voiced by actress Arleen Sorkin. The character was envisioned as a clown-like moll for the Joker, and was given a ditzy personality and a broad Noo Yawk accent. She proved to be so popular that she was eventually incorporated into Batman comic books, and soon grew to have titles of her own. Over the years, Harley Quinn has appeared in multiple TV shows and movies, most recently played in live-action by Lady Gaga in "Joker: Folie à Deux."
Fun trivia: Harley Quinn was actually preceded by a very, very similar character called Prank (Corinne Bohrer), a clown-like moll to a very Joker-like villain named the Trickster (Mark Hamill) on a 1991 episode of "The Flash." Whether or not the makers of "Batman: The Animated Series" were aware of Prank is a matter of speculation.

Ambition outstrips expertise in writer-director Phil Blattenberger’s “Laws of Man,” whose serpentine plot winds up seeming a wild goose chase — one whose execution should have been, well, wilder. Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Set in 1963, it takes a big narrative leap toward the end that suggests an intent closer to such willfully over-the-top Cold War paranoia fantasias as “Dr. Strangelove” and “Winter Kills.” But the satirical edge which might’ve pulled off that gambit is absent throughout, making for a whole that’s peculiar without ever being very engaging. Saban is releasing the feature to U.S. theaters, digital and On Demand platforms Jan. 10.

One of the more interesting hero love lives belongs to Green Arrow. Oliver Queen is best known for dating and eventually marrying Black Canary Dinah Lance, but it cannot be overlooked that the billionaire has always had a complicated playboy lifestyle. These two have been together for so long that it may feel like they were always together, but that's far from the case.
There were times when Oliver found himself either pining for someone else when he wasn't with Black Canary. Honestly, there were times when he found himself lusting over other suitors even while he was with Dinah. Sometimes, the two would have a rocky relationship and sometimes, Ollie was the farthest from a faithful man. Green Arrow's faithfulness and his battles with fidelity were once a constant character flaw for him, but it also gave birth to numerous fascinating love interests who weren't Black Canary.

Black Canary: Best of the Best writer Tom King spoke with Polygon about his miniseries and discussed the inspiration behind his story. King fondly discussed his fascination with fighting movies like Rocky and his work in crafting a story that captured the magic of his favorite films.
Tom King: I love the announcers. I wanted to make a comic in the tradition of these great fight movies like Rocky and Raging Bull, which is just a genre of films that I enjoy. I was like, How could a comic capture that? One of my favorite comics that I ever did,...

There are few characters more terrifying and horrific than the Joker, which is why it's so surprising that so many women have fallen in love with him over the years - including one Justice League member. While it might be understandable that criminals like Harley Quinn or Punchline could fall for the Clown Prince of Crime, it's a lot more shocking that Black Canary almost seemed interested.
The Joker has done a lot of crazy things, but flirting with Green Arrow's long-time lover is certainly an insane feat. During the events of The Joker #4 by Elliot S. Maggin and José Luis García-López, the Joker admits that since the moment he met Dinah Lance, he hasn't been able to think about anything except her. He outright says that he loves her, and he must either marry her or kill her.

Black Canary is a comic book character who has earned a reputation as one of the most lethal hand-to-hand fighters in the DC Universe. Combined with her trademark Canary Cry, she's a force to be reckoned with and is widely considered one of DC's best hand-to-hand combatants.
This Wednesday, November 27, award-winning writer Tom King and artist Ryan Sook place Black Canary in the match of the millennium in the new six-issue series, Black Canary: Best of the Best.
In that, the superhero will go one-on-one with the villainous Lady Shiva to decide who is truly the, well, best of the best. There's much more to the story than that, of course, with the in-ring action - that's right, this is no normal superhero battle - juxtaposed with flashbacks chronicling the original Black Canary's story and Dinah being trained for this fight by her mother.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Birds of Prey #15!!!
The Birds of Prey is home to some of DC's most powerful women, and the team boasts a wide range of abilities. However, it's not individual talent that makes them strong - it's the bond they have with each other - and Black Canary knows that runs deepest with the second Batgirl, Cassandra Cain. Cass has an extraordinary ability to connect with others, putting her at the heart the Birds of Prey.
Birds of Prey #15, by Kelly Thompson and Sami Basri, picks up with Batgirls undercover mission beginning to go awry. Cassandra goes dark and sparks concern among her teammates, especially Big Barda, who has grown incredibly fond of her "Small Bat" since joining the group. Rather than let Barda's worry turn into rage that may compromise the mission, Dinah assures her that Cassandra is "pretty much everyone's favorite" and they have...

The CW's Arrow introduced a bold new take on DC's Green Arrow for television. The series began in 2012, with a more grounded take on its source material, inspired by Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight movies. Over time, however, more of the sci-fi and fantasy concepts from DC's comics made their way into the expanding Arrowverse. This included the introduction of superpowers, with the emergence of metahumans in The Flash, and the introduction of time travel in DC's Legends of Tomorrow. Such concepts opened the doors to telling new kinds of stories in the Arrowverse, with Green Arrow and the Canaries set to look at the future of Star City.
The final season of Arrow included a backdoor pilot for Green Arrow and the Canaries, which revisited the stories of established characters Mia Smoak, Laurel Lance and Dinah Drake in the Arrowverse's post-Crisis on Infinite Earths timeline. Fans had expected the...

How would you feel about Gl being rebooted as a movie? I would love it. There is the selfish reason that I would get to see and work with my wonderful friends on the show. There is also the knowledge of the joy that would bring to long-time viewers. People rarely understand the unique aspect of these long-running series. They provided a touch point between generations.

Justice League Unlimited distinguishes itself from the series that came before it, Justice League, in a number of ways. Most episodes are only a single part; each season has an ongoing story arc, and the cast is significantly larger. Rather than just starring the seven League members from the previous series, it highlights an abundance of lesser-known heroes.
Justice League Unlimited massively expands the cast of the Dcau and features dozens of incredible characters. Superman, Batman, and the rest of the founders still make ample appearances, but Green Arrow, Supergirl, The Question, and more are equally important. The villains of Unlimited are just as crucial to the series' success, with figures like Lex Luthor and Darkseid being stand-outs.

Warning: Spoilers for Batman #152!The feud between the Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman's Amazons is far from over. Anyone who has been following the Birds of Prey's title series knows that their first arc from last year put them in conflict with the Amazons, albeit for a reasonable reason. However, an Amazon never forgets, as the saying goes.
As such, the Amazons make it clear that they still consider the Birds of Prey enemies of themselves and Wonder Woman, per Batman #152's backup story, "Emotionally Compromised" by Kelly Thompson, Mattia De Iulis, and Clayton Cowles. It's obvious from the outset that the tension between the Amazons and the Birds is still simmering, and it might take a lot for those fences to mend again.

The Arrowverse is known for its big identity reveals that shocked fans all around the world. The Arrowverse became popular for many reasons, but it found a gold mine in telling mysterious and expansive stories that centered around masked villains. Utilizing cliffhangers and hanging story threads, the creators of the Arrowverse knew they had cracked the formula to ensure repeat viewers.
Early villains like Reverse Flash and Deathstroke made a strong impression early on, as they carved a path for new threats like Zoom and Prometheus to steal the show. All four villains had one thing in common, they all hid behind a mask and costume. Masked villains worked well until the Arrowverse moved on and tried to create different types of villains, like The Thinker and Damien Darkh, which disrupted the winning formula.

For Palm Royale makeup and hair department heads Tricia Sawyer and Karen Bartek, Slim Aarons’ 1960s photography served as the biggest inspiration for nailing the looks of a cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Carol Burnett, Ricky Martin and Leslie Bibb.

The DC Universe is full of badass characters who are highly skilled fighters, but this November, Black Canary will set out to prove herself the best of them in a new six-issue limited series.
Titled Black Canary: Best of the Best, we'll pick up with Dinah Laurel Lance as she goes head-to-head with Lady Shiva. In order to train for that fight, it's said the hero will receive training from the likes of Batman, Wildcat, and her mother, the first Black Canary.
Tom King and artist Ryan Sook are tackling the comic and, as we're sure you'll agree, this sounds like it would make one heck of a movie. Given King's involvement in the Dcu - he's currently working on HBO's Lanterns - we can't discount the possibility that will eventually happen.
King's work has proven highly adaptable, with a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie in the works at DC Studios...

Spoilers for Birds of Prey #11
Black Canary showcases her power in Birds of Prey #11, tearing apart a dinosaur's head with her sonic scream. Writer Kelly Thompson is nominated for a 2024 Eisner Award for her work on Birds of Prey and other comics, highlighting the evolution of Black Canary's character. Black Canary's leadership, martial arts skills, and powerful voice prove she's more than just a pretty voice.

Apple TV+ brought viewers to Palm Royale earlier this year, making way for a strong ensemble of empowering female characters, among which included Leslie Bibb‘s Dinah Donahue. Becoming Maxine’s (Kristen Wiig) first reluctant friend of the season, Dinah is initially harsh to the newcomer until she helps her access an abortion, a next-to-impossible task in the 1969-set comedy. Realizing she might be able to trust Maxine to an extent, Dinah may be blackmailed into sponsoring Maxine at her ultra-exclusive club, but over time their dynamic transforms into something resembling a friendship. When it came to taking on the role, Bibb says, “There’s this vulnerability underneath her that I was always trying to find. I think that that’s who we all are as people. Nobody’s just an a**hole. There’s a reason we all have some trauma that led us to this point in our lives.
