Ambition outstrips expertise in writer-director Phil Blattenberger’s “Laws of Man,” whose serpentine plot winds up seeming a wild goose chase — one whose execution should have been, well, wilder. Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Set in 1963, it takes a big narrative leap toward the end that suggests an intent closer to such willfully over-the-top Cold War paranoia fantasias as “Dr. Strangelove” and “Winter Kills.” But the satirical edge which might’ve pulled off that gambit is absent throughout, making for a whole that’s peculiar without ever being very engaging. Saban is releasing the feature to U.S. theaters, digital and On Demand platforms Jan. 10.

One of the more interesting hero love lives belongs to Green Arrow. Oliver Queen is best known for dating and eventually marrying Black Canary Dinah Lance, but it cannot be overlooked that the billionaire has always had a complicated playboy lifestyle. These two have been together for so long that it may feel like they were always together, but that's far from the case.
There were times when Oliver found himself either pining for someone else when he wasn't with Black Canary. Honestly, there were times when he found himself lusting over other suitors even while he was with Dinah. Sometimes, the two would have a rocky relationship and sometimes, Ollie was the farthest from a faithful man. Green Arrow's faithfulness and his battles with fidelity were once a constant character flaw for him, but it also gave birth to numerous fascinating love interests who weren't Black Canary.

There are few characters more terrifying and horrific than the Joker, which is why it's so surprising that so many women have fallen in love with him over the years - including one Justice League member. While it might be understandable that criminals like Harley Quinn or Punchline could fall for the Clown Prince of Crime, it's a lot more shocking that Black Canary almost seemed interested.
The Joker has done a lot of crazy things, but flirting with Green Arrow's long-time lover is certainly an insane feat. During the events of The Joker #4 by Elliot S. Maggin and José Luis García-López, the Joker admits that since the moment he met Dinah Lance, he hasn't been able to think about anything except her. He outright says that he loves her, and he must either marry her or kill her.

Black Canary is a comic book character who has earned a reputation as one of the most lethal hand-to-hand fighters in the DC Universe. Combined with her trademark Canary Cry, she's a force to be reckoned with and is widely considered one of DC's best hand-to-hand combatants.
This Wednesday, November 27, award-winning writer Tom King and artist Ryan Sook place Black Canary in the match of the millennium in the new six-issue series, Black Canary: Best of the Best.
In that, the superhero will go one-on-one with the villainous Lady Shiva to decide who is truly the, well, best of the best. There's much more to the story than that, of course, with the in-ring action - that's right, this is no normal superhero battle - juxtaposed with flashbacks chronicling the original Black Canary's story and Dinah being trained for this fight by her mother.

Cass has an extraordinary ability to connect with others, putting her at the heart the Birds of Prey.

Warning: Spoilers for Batman #152!The feud between the Birds of Prey and Wonder Woman's Amazons is far from over. Anyone who has been following the Birds of Prey's title series knows that their first arc from last year put them in conflict with the Amazons, albeit for a reasonable reason. However, an Amazon never forgets, as the saying goes.
As such, the Amazons make it clear that they still consider the Birds of Prey enemies of themselves and Wonder Woman, per Batman #152's backup story, "Emotionally Compromised" by Kelly Thompson, Mattia De Iulis, and Clayton Cowles. It's obvious from the outset that the tension between the Amazons and the Birds is still simmering, and it might take a lot for those fences to mend again.

The DC Universe is full of badass characters who are highly skilled fighters, but this November, Black Canary will set out to prove herself the best of them in a new six-issue limited series.
Titled Black Canary: Best of the Best, we'll pick up with Dinah Laurel Lance as she goes head-to-head with Lady Shiva. In order to train for that fight, it's said the hero will receive training from the likes of Batman, Wildcat, and her mother, the first Black Canary.
Tom King and artist Ryan Sook are tackling the comic and, as we're sure you'll agree, this sounds like it would make one heck of a movie. Given King's involvement in the Dcu - he's currently working on HBO's Lanterns - we can't discount the possibility that will eventually happen.
King's work has proven highly adaptable, with a Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie in the works at DC Studios...

Taylor Swift may have a future as DC's Black Canary due to a recent backup story in Wonder Woman #11. The story focuses on Black Canary as a mega-pop star, which gives the character a new dimension for exploration. This portrayal could elevate Black Canary and differentiate her from other heroes by incorporating a celebrity persona.
While everyone is waiting for Taylor Swift to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe, she may have a future at DC Comics instead. Fans are convinced that Taylor Swift is playing Lady Deadpool in the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine movie. Rumors aside, others are dream-casting her as other Marvel characters, like Dazzler and Magik.
However, there is a possible future for Taylor Swift as DC Comics' Black Canary, judging by Dinah's appearance in Wonder Woman #11 for the backup story "World's Finest Part 8" by Tom King and Beln Ortega. The story...

Spoilers for Birds of Prey #11
Black Canary showcases her power in Birds of Prey #11, tearing apart a dinosaur's head with her sonic scream. Writer Kelly Thompson is nominated for a 2024 Eisner Award for her work on Birds of Prey and other comics, highlighting the evolution of Black Canary's character. Black Canary's leadership, martial arts skills, and powerful voice prove she's more than just a pretty voice.
Black Canary has long been overlooked in DC Comics, either as only a love interest to Green Arrow or as a temporary member of the Justice League. But it's time Dinah Lance was appreciated for the powerhouse she is: from her leadership, to her martial arts skills, and especially to her sonic scream. Especially considering a single canary cry from her can rip a dinosaur's face clean off.

Apple TV+ brought viewers to Palm Royale earlier this year, making way for a strong ensemble of empowering female characters, among which included Leslie Bibb‘s Dinah Donahue. Becoming Maxine’s (Kristen Wiig) first reluctant friend of the season, Dinah is initially harsh to the newcomer until she helps her access an abortion, a next-to-impossible task in the 1969-set comedy. Realizing she might be able to trust Maxine to an extent, Dinah may be blackmailed into sponsoring Maxine at her ultra-exclusive club, but over time their dynamic transforms into something resembling a friendship. When it came to taking on the role, Bibb says, “There’s this vulnerability underneath her that I was always trying to find. I think that that’s who we all are as people. Nobody’s just an a**hole. There’s a reason we all have some trauma that led us to this point in our lives.

As Maxine Dellacorte (Kristen Wiig) tries her best to win the approval of the ladies she meets at the exclusive social club in Palm Royale, one of her most meaningful relationships comes in the form of a young nail technician-turned-friend named Mitzi (Kaia Gerber), who looks up to the aspiring socialite.
Over time, the pair form a unique bond, with Maxine bestowing her version of wisdom about how the world works upon Mitzi, and in turn, seeking the seemingly knowledgeable Palm Beach newbie’s guidance about her future — including her aspirations of becoming a model, much like the real-life actress and daughter of supermodel Cindy Crawford.
“I think that Mitzi is a young, naive, very optimistic and hopeful person in this world that is full of people who are more jaded, or who have very different approaches to life than she does,” Kaia Gerber tells The Hollywood Reporter in the conversation below.

After a series of unsavory encounters with the black sheep of their exclusive social club in Palm Royale, Leslie Bibb’s character Dinah told Maxine two episodes ago, “I cannot tell if you are a country bumpkin or the most ruthless woman in Palm Beach.” If you ask Kristen Wiig — who portrays the eager newcomer into the wealthy Florida community — for her take, however, she’ll tell you, “I don’t think she’s either one of those things.”
Those words might not best characterize the former Chattanooga pageant queen who tries to impress a different set of judges in the Apple TV+ series (the unneighborly socialites she meets at the exclusive Palm Royale beach club when she moves to Palm Beach). But the duality of Maxine was an aspect of her character that Wiig worked hard to showcase.

Tate Taylor might be the male version of Palm Royale’s Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons.
The executive producer and director behind the Kristen Wiig-starring comedy had his own experience trying to get into an exclusive Palm Beach club during pre-production on the Apple TV+ series. And just like the Tennessee debutante found out in the season premiere, wealthy Florida socialites don’t take too kindly to trespassers.
“I snuck in a side door like Maxine, got a great glimpse of the club, was spotted by security, and was kicked out. So I left Palm Beach feeling like a loser and trash,” Taylor recalls to The Hollywood Reporter in the conversation below. “I said, ‘Okay, this is a very real place.'”

Palm Royale with its meticulously matched period décor and costuming is a true immersion in late 1960s Palm Beach culture. But while watching the Apple TV+ series, one can’t help but see the connections between the topics that were emerging as national concerns then and the biggest social issues now.
“It’s so cool to think about how far we’ve come as women and that we have so many options today, but 1969 isn’t that long ago,” says Leslie Bibb, who stars in the Kristen Wiig-starring comedy as Dinah, a woman desperate to maintain her wealthy status after marrying for money rather than love. “It’s not that far back that women’s rights weren’t an issue.”

Black Canary's selfless act to save Batgirl in Birds of Prey #8 showcases their powerful friendship. Dinah and Barbara's bond in Birds of Prey proves more significant than Barbara's relationships with Nightwing and the Bat-Family. The Birds of Prey team exemplifies strong bonds and protective friendship as they face challenges together.
A devastating turn in Birds of Prey has proven that Batgirl’s most important relationship isn’t with Nightwing, but Black Canary. Dinah has been trying to keep Barbara safe throughout the series thus far, as a still-unrevealed entity has been hunting her down. When the final pages of issue #8 see Barbara abducted, Dinah selflessly enters the unknown to rescue her longtime friend and teammate while the Birds follow her lead.
The climax of Birds of Prey #8 by Kelly Thompson, Javier Pina, and David López has Barbara taken through a portal towards certain doom.

In Birds of Prey #7, superheroes reclaim their sexiness in a fashion show, challenging the trope of male-gaze objectification in comics. The issue highlights the importance of women embracing their own sexiness without shame, empowering both characters and readers. Characters like Cassandra Cain find empowerment through fashion, inspiring readers to take back their agency and feel confident in their own skin.
Warning: Spoilers for Birds of Prey #7!The newest adventure in the Birds of Prey saga does more than just give the heroes snazzy outfits to wear for a fashion show. The way that women have been depicted throughout comic book history has always been questionable at best, and overly sexualized at worst. But this latest installment in the DC Comics series turns that trope on its head.
The fashion show presented in Birds of Prey #7 shows exactly how superheroes can reclaim a sexiness for themselves that's often deemed so controversial by critics.

You know The Prince even if you’ve never been to Los Angeles.
The beloved Koreatown bar has been a filming location staple of film and TV since at least Roman Polanski’s “Chinatown,” where Evelyn Mulwray and Jake Gittes sit together at a red leather banquette. Or maybe you recognize it from “Mad Men.” Most people likely know The Prince as The Griffin, the bar that features so heavily in “New Girl” as Nick’s place of employment.
Most recently, The Prince stood in as a dive bar in the first episode of Apple TV+’s new series “Palm Royale,” where Maxine (Kristen Wiig) and Dinah (Leslie Bibb) go for a private chat, far away from their neighbors’ prying eyes.

“When you first come to Palm Beach, you think you’re the oldest and the richest. But then you realize you are the youngest and poorest.”
Everybody has goals. For new resident Maxine Simmons (Kristen Wiig), hers is to enter the world of Palm Beach high society circa 1969. There are so many fabulous women wearing so many fabulous ‘60s outfits in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale, it’s like a Ryan Murphy fever dream. A cast that includes Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern and Carol Burnett is undeniably tantalizing, but Palm Royale — debuting this Wednesday on the streamer; I’ve seen the first three episodes — never lives up to its stellar cast. Campy and overbaked, it manages to fall between the cracks of the dramedy genre: not funny enough to be a comedy and not compelling enough to be a drama. But the clothes do look great,...

Apple TV+’s Palm Royale may be set in the late 1960s, but its greatest pleasures seem tailor-made for the age of the internet. Every shot of a socialite smirking over the rim of a cocktail glass plays like the perfect reaction Gif. The bitchy bon mots might as well be engineered for portioning into TikTok-sized soundbites, the outrageous plot twists for drawing gasps in the group chat. And the aesthetic — oh, the aesthetic! In a repudiation of the “quiet luxury” greige, this vision of America’s elite is awash in shimmering jewel tones and Lilly Pulitzer brights. You could build entire mood boards around the hippie-chic bookstore or the baroque mansion. I myself lost a good 20 minutes Googling between episodes for cat-eye sunglasses just like the ones featured on Maxine (Kristen Wiig).
But the eye-popping style is as good as the show gets; the fun ends where the surface does.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Birds of Prey #7!
Oracle (Barbara Gordon) outsmarts DC's top heroes with her unmatched intelligence and versatility. Barbara Gordon returns as Oracle in Birds of Prey #7, working with the team to solve her potential murder. Oracle's incredible skill in hacking, coordination, and strategy makes her DC's most underrated and powerful hero.
The heroes of the DC Universe have every angle covered — from Superman’s immense power to Batman’s hyperintelligence and planning skills — yet none are enough to outpace Birds of Prey founder Barbara Gordan. Babs, known as both Oracle and Batgirl, has every base covered. She has operated as a hero, led teams, and is stubborn and smart enough to outwit any system (or person) in her way.
In Birds of Prey #7 by Kelly Thompson and Javier Pina, Barbara Gordon is back in her rightful place, working alongside Dinah Lance and the Birds of Prey to solve her own (potential) murder.

DC Comics' "Birds of Prey" #7, available May 2024, is written by Kelly Thompson and illustrated by Javier Pina, with covers by Nathan Szerdy, Pablo Villalobos and Sozomaika:
"...new mission, new team. 'Sin' is alive and back with 'Black Canary' in 'Gotham' and the world didn't get destroyed, but the cost was high and nobody's exactly sure what it means yet.

Looks like Harmonizers are going to have to wait a bit longer to see all of Fifth Harmony back together. Despite a report suggesting the possibility of new music from the group, a reunion is currently not in the works, multiple sources tell Rolling Stone.
Rumors of a possible reunion first began swirling after the group’s members — Ally Brooke, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui, and Camila Cabello — publicly supported Normani’s new album announcement. And on Friday, Page Six published a report that the group was “in talks” of working together again.
