Since 2005, "Grey's Anatomy" has captivated an astoundingly broad and enduring audience that can't be denied. Despite its seemingly restrictive setting and genre, it has something to offer everyone -- those thrilled by the functions of a busy hospital; fans of melodramatic reveals and romances, as well as those invested in mature relationships; and especially those who want hundreds of high-quality episodes to keep them company as they grow into the next season of their life.
And yet, despite how culturally relevant the series has remained for over two decades, it's this unique combination of subgenres and styles that makes "Grey's Anatomy" one of the more difficult shows for us to offer recommendations for. Sure, it would be easy enough to toss out 15 of the most popular medical procedurals out there and call it a day -- but we know we can do better. As such, we've gathered a mix of twisty,...

ABC is moving up the premiere dates of its Thursday primetime dramas by one week. The network announced Tuesday that “9-1-1,” new series “9-1-1: Nashville” and “Grey’s Anatomy” will now premiere Thursday, Oct. 9.
ABC did not reveal a reason behind the schedule change, though premiere date shifts are not uncommon on broadcast television. The change also moves the dramas’ debut closer to the rest of ABC’s lineup, which kicks off its fall premieres on Sept. 16 with the returns of “Dancing With the Stars” and “High Potential.”
It’s unclear how many episodes “9-1-1: Nashville” will have for its inaugural season, though “9-1-1” and “Grey’s Anatomy” have both stuck with 18-episode orders.
“9-1-1” kicks off the Thursday night lineup, returning for Season 9 at 8 p.m.. The new episodes mark the first season without series star Peter Krause, with Captain Bobby Nash killed off in a late Season 8 episode this past spring.

911 fans finally have something to look forward to! Just as the series has gone into production for season 9, we got word on when to expect new episodes. However, it’s going to be a longer wait than normal for the ABC series.
Instead of a regular September air date, the series will return in October, meaning we will have to wait a few more weeks to see our favorite firefighters. However, with the series now back in production, we will likely get some fun teasers as we wait to see what happens next for the 118.
Going into season 9, 911 will see some changes in the cast. Peter Krause, who played Captain Bobby Nash, exited the series at the end of season 8. Bobby died after a lab explosion left him exposed to Crimean Congo Hemorrhagic Fever. It will be strange for fans to watch the show without Bobby after eight seasons.

One fan-favorite firefighter is guaranteed to return in 9-1-1season 9. The first-responder drama made waves by killing off Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash at the end of season 8. By far 9-1-1’s most tragic death, Bobby’s departure convinced many viewers that the Lafd Station 118 firefighters would never be the same after Bobby’s death. Nevertheless, the firefighters’ lives go on.
A recent post to Anirudh Pisharody’s TikTok confirms his return as Ravi Panikkar in 9-1-1 season 9. The video, which humorously juxtaposes Pisharody’s knowledge of viral trends with Oliver Stark’s chronically offline confusion, shows both actors in the iconic Lafd uniform. As such, despite his tendency to fade into the background or disappear completely, Ravi is still with the 118.

Last season, the first responders of 9-1-1 experienced a heartrending loss that will forever change the show’s trajectory. In Season 8 of the procedural, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) passed away after being exposed to a deadly virus while the 118 was trapped in a lab. Putting others first, he didn't let anyone know he was compromised but gave the only antidote to Chimney (Kenneth Choi), Maddie’s (Jennifer Love Hewitt) husband, who also needed it.
Since the tragic loss, a few on the 9-1-1 team have weighed in on what the show would be like without Bobby’s warm presence, noting that it would never be the same. Most recently, Hewitt also had a few things to say, echoing her co-stars’ thoughts to Entertainment Tonight on the I Know What You Did Last Summer carpet on Monday, July 14. Nearly two months after 9-1-1's game-changing Season 8 came to a close, work on Season 9 is about to kick into high gear. Earlier this week, Jennifer Love Hewitt shared that the series was a couple of weeks out from returning to production and moving into a new era following the tragic exit of longtime co-lead Peter Krause. Now, Oliver Stark has chimed in with a video on Instagram offering exactly when he and the rest of the 118 will "get back to it." According to the star, filming begins in "eleven days," meaning July 22 will mark an end to "waking up late" and a return to dramatic first-responder action on ABC.
One thing Stark didn't provide, however, was any tease as to what's to come in Season 9 when the series returns to television this fall. Season 8 left the station fractured following the death of its stalwart captain Bobby Nash (Krause...

The 118 is going to need a new captain when 9-1-1 Season 9 begins. Near the end of Season 8, their beloved captain, Bobby (Peter Krause), died after being infected with a super strain of Cchf (Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever) for which they only had one anti-viral, which he gave to Chimney (Kenneth Choi). Hen (Aisha Hinds) was offered the job, but she turned it down. And in the Season 8 finale, Chimney certainly acted like a captain. Buck (Oliver Stark) has wanted the job in the past — when there needed to be an interim captain with Bobby on vacation — but he’s not ready for that just yet. However, when TV Insider recently spoke with Oliver Stark about Buck’s future, we asked him what kind of captain he thinks his character will be eventually. “I think the thing that he would struggle with the most being captain is not being the...

9-1-1 star Oliver Stark reveals that one fan-favorite character won't be replacing Bobby. It's in the 9-1-1 season 8 finale, "Sesimic Shifts", that a reluctant successor to Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) is teased. The season's closing installment tackles the question of who will lead the 118 as its new captain, though the hour ends without an official announcement one way.
Stark, who plays Evan Buckley, spoke with Principle Magazine and revealed why he thinks that Buck would not want to be the leader of the 118. In the quote below, the actor talks about respecting Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) as potential successors. His quote is below:
“It’s a job that Buck probably sees himself one day hoping to do, but I don’t think he would feel comfortable wanting that position now. I think he looks at Hen and Chimney and he’s like, ‘Those are...

When 9-1-1 returns in fall 2025, there will be a major change in the 118, something that the end of Season 8 did not address: Who will be the next captain, following the heartbreaking, tragic death of Bobby Nash (Peter Krause)? Following Bobby’s death in Season 8 Episode 15, showrunner Tim Minear told TV Insider that wasn’t something that would be answered just yet. We knew it wouldn’t be until Season 9 that we’d learn the answer, though the discussions did begin onscreen, with Hen (Aisha Hinds) turning down the job offer. Now, in a new interview with Principle Magazine, Oliver Stark has revealed that filming on the new season begins “in about a month,” and while he has yet to read a script, he does have an idea about what to expect. “It’s gonna be interesting in the sense that at the end of Season 8, we lost Peter Krause’s character,...

Hollywood icon Rob Lowe is open to returning to the 9-1-1 franchise. However, the actor says he will have to check with his brother, Chad Lowe, who works on the series.

Just like Chimney and Hen are ride-or-dies and always there to back each other up, you can count on 9-1-1 stars Kenneth Choi and Aisha Hinds being a great pair to support one another. The Season 8 finale ended with Chimney certainly coming across very “Cap”-like — Hen even calls him Cap after his speech — and the 118 does need a new leader in the wake of Bobby’s (Peter Krause) tragic, heartbreaking death. But is Chimney ready for that when the show returns for Season 9 in the fall? “No. Chimney’s not ready for any type of dutiful responsibilities whatsoever. Never,” Kenneth Choi quipped to TV Insider on the 2025 Disney Upfront carpet in May. Aisha Hinds interjected with, “I wouldn’t say never. I think that’s being a little hyperbolic. You are a responsible person, and I think he could be ready for it.” “She just slipped into Hen mode.

One thing that has become clear from behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the 9-1-1 set is that the cast has fun on set. It’s one such moment that is already online that came up when TV Insider had stars Oliver Stark (Buck) and Aisha Hinds (Hen) in our office playing a game of Knock Your Blocks Off ahead of the Season 8 finale. When asked about a scene that made him break while shooting, Stark recalled filming the Season 7 finale with Hinds, Kenneth Choi (Chimney), and Ryan Guzman (Eddie). The four of them were in the hospital hallway with Bobby (Peter Krause) in the hospital after nearly dying when his and Athena’s (Angela Bassett) house burned down. “For some reason, we just could not keep it together and we were in hysterics. Nobody wanted to look at each other. Every time you’d look, you’d break,” Stark recalled.

Following Season 8's emotional ending, 911 showrunner Tim Minear shared the challenges behind finding the next captain of Firehouse 118 ahead of Season 9. The death of Captain Robert "Bobby" Nash (Peter Krause) in 911 sent shockwaves to the rest of the 118, his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), and fans of the series. Bobby's departure left a significant hole in the lives of the show's core characters, with them trying hard to navigate their new normal.
Minear previously explained why Bobby Nash had to leave 911, pointing out that it was a "creative decision" on his part while saying, "If the stakes are never real... the show could die." The character's death also meant that Firehouse 118 has yet to name a permanent captain. Weeks ago, 9-1-1 executive producer, Tim Minear, teased that — following the death of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash — the rest of the show’s eighth season wouldn’t so much be about finding the 118 a new captain, but would instead be about the chair being vacant. And, as we saw through last night’s finale, Minear kept his word. The last batch of episodes was all about the grief and the fallout of losing someone you love and view as a mentor, father figure, or just an all-around good human being. But, in the fall, when the series returns for round nine, we can expect the team to move forward with the process of determining a new leader.

[This story contains spoilers from “Seismic Shifts,” the season eight finale of 911.]
Is Howard “Chimney” Han (Kenneth Choi) about to succeed the late Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) as the next captain of the Lafd’s Station 118?
That seems to be the question on everyone’s lips in the season eight finale of 911, the buzzy ABC procedural drama which wrapped up its most heart-wrenching season to date on Thursday. Ever since Bobby died after being injured in a biolab explosion and contracting a lethal strain of Cchf in the episode “Lab Rats,” the surviving members of the 118 — as well as Bobby’s widow, Sgt. Athena Grant-Nash (Angela Bassett) — have been reeling from losing the seemingly unshakeable center of their personal and professional lives.
While continuing to respond to outlandish calls from Los Angeles residents, each character has been attempting to process Bobby’s death in their own way, leading to some expected tension and friction between the once-tight-knit group. Athena, in particular,...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the 9-1-1 Season 8 finale “Seismic Shifts.”] The good news: 9-1-1 Season 8 ends with no one else leaving the 118. That means Buck’s (Oliver Stark) not transferring and Eddie’s (Ryan Guzman) not moving back to Texas. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) puts his foot down after the firefighters help save the victims of the building collapse that ended the season’s penultimate episode. Athena (Angela Bassett) is first on scene and the one to find those the most injured in the laundry room, where the explosion originated: Graham and Donnie. Chimney joins her, though Hen (Aisha Hinds) offers to go instead due to the tension between the two, and in the end, their patients parallel what happened with Bobby (Peter Krause) and Bobby. Graham helps them save Donnie, only to reveal he was worse off. The good news? With Chimney taking lead during the rescue, they’re able to save everyone. And after, ...

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Thursday’s Season 8 finale episode of “9-1-1” on ABC.
The eighth season finale of “9-1-1” ended with Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant saying two bittersweet words: “Hello Bobby.”
Athena’s remarks were made not to her late husband Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), but to Robert Nash Han — the newborn son of Chimney (Kenneth Choi) and Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), who was named after the recently deceased captain of the 118.
That nod to Bobby was far from the only tribute paid to the character throughout the Season 8 finale, titled “Seismic Shifts,” as the team continued to deal with the logistical and emotional impact of Bobby’s sudden death three episodes ago.
At the start of the episode, Eddie (Ryan Guzman) is set to head back to Texas to start his new job in El Paso. The team gives him his 118 uniform as a present at his farewell party,...

Bobby Nash was our captain on 9-1-1since the beginning of the show but in a shocking twist, Peter Krause's character was killed off. It left fans shocked and even stars like Angela Bassett, who played his wife Athena, made it clear that it was not her choice to have Bobby sacrifice himself to save others. In respect for Bobby, it doesn't seem like Station 118 is going to get a new captain right away. At the Disney Upfronts in New York, Oliver Stark, who plays Evan "Buck" Buckley on the series, says that by the end of Season 8, Nash's chair is still going to be left empty.
Speaking with People at the Upfronts, Stark made it clear that the team at Station 118 was still grieving. “The chair will be empty come the end of the season,” he told the outlet. “Which I think is wise because it gives...

The episode ended with Bobby (Peter Krause) stopping by to check on Buck in the hospital. Well, as Oliver Stark revealed to TV Insider when he and Aisha Hinds stopped by ahead of the Season 8 finale and played a game of Knock Your Blocks Off, that moment came up. He was asked which love triangle he has strong opinions on, and he picked a moment from all the way back at the beginning of 9-1-1. “This is going to be a big throwback,” Oliver Stark said. “Do you remember in Season 1 of the show? [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 17 “Don’t Drink the Water.”] This is the 9-1-1 episode we needed after Bobby’s (Peter Krause) heartbreaking death. The penultimate episode of Season 8 continues to dive into the grief of those left behind, from Athena (Angela Bassett) and Chimney (Kenneth Choi) both struggling with the fact that Bobby gave him the only dose of the anti-viral and died to Hen (Aisha Hinds) figuring out if she wants to be the new captain, from Buck (Oliver Stark) trying to check on everyone and hold it together himself after Bobby’s last words to him to Eddie (Ryan Guzman) dealing with how he found out and the fact that he wasn’t there. And it does so in typical 9-1-1 fashion, interspersed with the types of calls we’ve come to expect from this first responder drama. The episode opens on everyone at the 118, including Eddie and Ravi (...

We needn’t remind 9-1-1 fans that the 118 is in need of a new leader. Sorry, we’re not trying to rub salt in your wounds, but it stands as a fact that following the traumatic death of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash, the captain’s chair is wide open. In a sneak peek of tonight’s episode, Angela Bassett’s Athena Grant can be seen pushing one of Bobby’s colleagues, Henrietta Wilson (Aisha Hinds), to throw her name into the ring. Over a glass of wine, Athena urges Hen to stake her claim, telling her, “The best thing for the 118 would be you as captain.” Unfortunately, Hen doesn’t quite see it that way and — like the mark of any good leader — simply doesn’t want the job.

9-1-1 is still feeling the fallout of Bobby Nash's death, and not just in-universe. Fans have made their displeasure known about the tragic loss of Peter Krause's long-serving captain, whether by billboards or petitions to bring him back to the ABC procedural. The most noticeable effect it's had on the show, outside of how the 118 has grappled with the paradigm-shifting moment from Season 8, Episode 15, is in the reviews. A quick glance at IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes shows a steep decline from the typically high user ratings the fan-favorite series has enjoyed over the years, stemming from "Lab Rats" and now bleeding into the follow-up episode, "The Last Alarm." It shouldn't come as a shock, either, given that the controversial moment was just about the last thing anyone wanted from the drama.

9-1-1 enters its second stage now that Bobby (Peter Krause) has been buried. His death was a major event that separated everything into before and after, and in the all-new episode airing on Thursday, May 8, the after begins. After Bobby's death, the biggest question is what fills the gaping hole left in many aspects of the show. How will the other characters move on? Who becomes the new captain of the 118? 9-1-1 Season 8, Episode 17, "Don't Drink the Water," begins to answer these questions as it explores the potential candidates for the captain position. Meanwhile, the job calls as emergencies continue demanding the station's attention. ABC released a sneak peek of the episode, previewing what will come as the season gears up for the final stretch.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for 9-1-1 Season 8 Episode 16 “The Last Alarm.”] “Everything about this is wrong,” Hen (Aisha Hinds) says at one point during the first episode after 9-1-1 killed off the show’s heart, Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause), and she’s right. It’s been two weeks since Bobby’s death, and no one’s doing well. The good: The calls are minimal, as they need to be, with everyone dealing with their grief. The not-so-good: Bobby’s wife Athena (Angela Bassett) gets wrapped up in helping a woman who lost her baby in a fire eight years prior but is convinced he’s alive. That fire? Bobby and the 118 responded to it, as we see in a flashback. The flashbacks for that storyline are great, but the rest of it drags out a bit, using up time that would have been better ...

“9-1-1” mourned the loss of Peter Krause’s Bobby Nash with a funeral and an old case with a tragic resolution.
Episode 16, titled “The Last Alarm,” followed as the firefighters of the 118 and their loved ones grieved losing their beloved captain. Bobby appeared in the heartbreaking hour through flashbacks and visions to his wife Athena (Angela Bassett), cementing the death of a character fans hoped would miraculously be revealed as a fake out in this week’s installment.
The somber tone did not slow down the case work, as Athena was recruited to solve a mystery surrounding one of Bobby’s past rescues. She juggled that with her own grief and finding the right resting place for her husband. Meanwhile, the other “9-1-1” characters struggled through their own grief, including Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who returned from El Paso for the funeral.
