Marilia Gurgel is a photographer, filmmaker and multimedia artist. She was born in Mossoro, northeast coast of Brazil. She has a degree in Performing Arts and BA for Theater Direction from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. In 2022, She graduated from the Documentary Practices program at the International Center of Photography, in New York.
She has been in several audiovisual productions for cinema, advertising and TV/streaming.
Marilia is the director of the music video "Bagana"(Biltre) and the dance film "Malandro", featuring the dancer Laryssa França.
In 2022 she released her first short film "Saudades", this project was recipient of the grant "Poti-Cultural SESC-RN 2021" and in 2023 her project "Let Me Tell You About Them" was awardee with the 2023 Media Arts Work in Progress.
