The Last of Us: Ellie and Dina and Truth Bombs Aplenty — Read Episode 4 Recap
Image
The Last of Us is gripping, hard-hitting and gutting. But one thing it is not, or at least not often, is joyful. That’s why this week’s episode stands out. Ok, yeah, there’s a barely escaped clicker attack and torture in an industrial kitchen. But there’s also a beautiful acoustic cover and a long-brewing hookup, and both of those moments of light are sorely needed as Season 2 continues on its dark path.

Read on for the highlights of Episode 4.

Luca Guadagnino’s DC Studios Sgt. Rock Movie No Longer Going Ahead
Image
In an altogether unexpected turn of events, it looks like Sgt. Rock is being discharged before he's even hit the battlefield. Yes, just two months after DC Studios head honchos James Gunn and Peter Safran confirmed plans for a Luca Guadagnino Sgt. Rock movie during their most recent Dcu slate reshuffle, THR is reporting that the project, which was just entering pre-production ahead of a planned summer shoot, is no longer going ahead.

The first whispers of Guadagnino making a pivot into comic book movie territory came late last November, when we reported that the Italian auteur was looking to team up with Queer star Daniel Craig and writer Justin Kuritzkes to bring the hero from the 1950s' war comics boom to the big screen. In March, following the movie's formal announcement by Gunn and Safran, we learned that Craig wouldn't be kitting up after all, but that The Penguin...

A ‘Chicago P.D.’ Lifer, Laroyce Hawkins Is Proud of Atwater’s Evolution
Image
If you’ve been a fan of Chicago P.D. over the course of the last 12 seasons, someone who has consistently stood out is the 6-foot-2 mostly quiet and unassuming (until he’s not) Officer Kevin Atwater, played by Laroyce Hawkins.

Atwater, maybe more so than any cop in the Intelligence Unit, struggles with seeing how decimated some communities are in a big city such as Chicago. He struggles with the injustices within the legal system or even facing the dangers of dealing with law enforcement other than himself, because of the color of his skin. Through the years, it sometimes seems like Atwater has seen too much, although he rarely acts out his rage or aggravation on others, especially the innocent. Most times, he seems to hold what’s eating at him in and let those wounds bury themselves, which also may not be the best route for a...

Doom: Annihilation Succeeds Where The Rock’s Film Failed
Image
Doomfans have been on a roll. After years of dormancy, the landmark First-Person Shooter (Fps) came back with all guns blazing in 2016 through the franchise's universally-acclaimed return to form, Doom (2016). Then, against all odds, id Software surpassed their already great game with the even better Doom: Eternal. The 2020 sequel is set to be followed up by the highly anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages, which is coming out as soon as May 2025.

Because of this impressive roll, it's easy (or even preferable) to forget that Doom didn't always have it this good. Nothing embodies the franchise's awkward entrance into the 2000s better than the Doom film, which was so bad that its stars, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Rosamund Pike, feel embarrassed about starring in it. This failure didn't stop filmmakers from trying, as seen with the 2019 direct-to-video soft reboot, Doom: Annihilation.Although it has its own flaws, Doom: Annihilation is still everything Doom (2005) should've been.

The Rock’s First Video Game Film Is Worse Than You Remember
Image
Between the coming release of the highly-anticipated Doom: The Dark Ages —the third entry in the legendary First-Person Shooter franchise's reboot — and Doomguy's resurgence in the zeitgeist, there's never been a better time than now to be a Doom fan. In fact, fans of id Software's flagship games have it so good that they can almost forget the existence of Doom's first film. Such is the case even if it starred heavyweight talents like Rosamund Pike, Karl Urban and none other than Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.

20 years after it bombed in cinemas, there's an understandable temptation to give Doom the benefit of the doubt. After all, the hate that most early video game films received was overblown. In hindsight, the vitriol was fueled more by critics' condescending opinion of video games and overzealous gamers' impossible demands, not a desire for quality entertainment. Doom, however, is the exception. Not only...

‘Death Whisperer 2’ Movie Ending Explained & Summary: Did Yak Kill Puang’s Ghoul?
Image
Death Whisperer 2’s ending is a much happier one than the first film. It’s essentially a family reunion that feels like a delight after the journey we’ve been through the whole film. These are not prestige horror movies, but I’ve got to admit they’re quite entertaining. In fact, I think this one is more so than its predecessor, specifically because the whole middle act feels like a blend of Jurassic Park and the Bollywood movie Kaal. Oh, there’s also a little bit of Evil Dead right at the end. The film iconically combines an original Thai story with a dozen modern global horror movie tropes to give us a unique and entertaining film. Death Whisperer 2 is set 3 years after Yam’s tragic death in the hospital. Now, the family wants to forget what happened, but Yak is certain the ghost will not leave them alone,...

‘On Call’ Review: Dick Wolf’s Prime Video Police Drama Won’t Reinvent the Genre
Image
“On Call” is a decent small-scale police procedural. But is it decent enough when it comes from the house of Dick Wolf?

The pedigreed eight-part show traded broadcast networks for Prime Video, where it will premiere Thursday. The novelty is that each episode is a bite-sized 30 minutes, with modest character arcs that extend over multiple episodes, and multiple seemingly random crime sequences that propel individual installments.

The result feels like “Cops” with a script. The ride-along series puts the audience largely behind the wheel with Traci Harmon. She’s a divorced surfer with a chip on her shoulder, a junkie sister and a troubled relationship with her fellows on the force. She’s wound as tight as her bun.

Riding shotgun is her trainee, the handsome newbie Alex Diaz (Brandon Larracuente). The young idealist is eager for the challenge, but he keeps leaping into the danger zone, ignoring the sage...

Chicago Pd star explains why Voight's "legacy" is so important in season 12
Image
Chicago Pd likes to focus on its ensemble more than any other One Chicago title. There's a pointed effort to focus on different characters each episode, so that each of them get their time to shine and progress over the course of a season.

That said, Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) is the de facto protagonist of the show. He has always been the anchor that tethers all the other characters, including Kevin Atwater. The person who plays Atwater, Laroyce Hawkins recently spoke about Voight's importance, and how the character's "legacy" was more important than ever in season 12's second half.

‘Hunting With Tigers’ Movie Ending Explained: Is Malik Able To Free Serge?
Image
The French thriller Hunting with Tigers, which just dropped on Prime Video, is an unnecessarily confusing movie. It has a convoluted plot for no valid reason whatsoever. It doesn’t qualify as a gritty crime drama that could bring award glory, and it also lacks in terms of pulpiness. The only thing going in the movie’s favor is perhaps the initial ambiguity around the de facto lead character, Malik. Once that wears off, it is a painful watch that tries so hard to be simultaneously intense and entertaining but succeeds at neither. However, if you have watched the movie and are confused about Hunting with Tigers’ ending, then that is going to get sorted out for you in this article.

Spoilers Ahead

When Chicago Pd Will Reveal Uptons Replacement Is Confirmed, Stars Tease Who It Will Be
Image
Chicago Pd stars Laroyce Hawkins and Patrick John Flueger reveal when Hailey Upton's replacement will be announced and tease who it will be. Motivated by Jay Halstead's Chicago Pd season 10 exit, his ex-wife was forced to move away from Chicago in the hopes of having a new start elsewhere. Tracy Spiridakos' departure was so much better than Jesse Lee Soffer's, although it left Intelligence with a big challenge finding her replacement. The first two episodes of Chicago Pd season 12 have yet to properly acknowledge this, but both Hawkins and Flueger reveal that the confirmation is coming soon.

In a new interview with TV Insider, the long-time Chicago Pd cast members explain why they actually don't want the promotion that will essentially make them Upton's replacement. Hawkins says that Kevin Atwater is more focused on protecting Hank Voight's legacy at this point instead of climbing the ranks. Meanwhile, Fleuger's Ruzek...

The Hills Have Eyes 2 (2007) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Image
The Hills Have Eyes 2. No, not that one. That’s The Hills Have Eyes Part 2 and has one of the greatest things ever filmed where a dog, an actual dog, has a flashback and its just, muah, chef’s kiss. While I actually think that original 1985 sequel is way too much fun for its own good – it was written and directed by Craven, brings back Michael Berryman, has Harry Manfredini give us the score, and oh yeah, has a dog flashback. A Dog, Flashback – I’m not here to talk about that one that is probably so bad it’s good. I’m here to discuss the true black sheep of this inbred mountain family and give you all a look at the movie that is not a remake of the sequel but rather a sequel to the remake. Live-action adaptations of famous video game series are often something producers use to give a fresh feeling to the franchise. Unfortunately, these adaptations haven’t particularly been successful, and that is due to many different causes, one of them being the choice of cast.

Disappointment is a recurring term when it comes to adaptations of video games into a movie or a series, and it becomes even more saddening when it features a cast of renowned actors such as Dwayne Johnson. "Americans Feel Authority Should Be Questioned": Beetle Bailey's Creator Believed Beetle Represents America's Attitude to Authority
Image
Despite its seemingly simple, straightforward nature, longrunning American comic strip Beetle Bailey delivered daily doses of anti-authority humor to readers for decades, encouraging them to question authority. Mort Walker's subtle humor in Beetle Bailey undermined hierarchy, using the strip's military setting to lampoon authority, which according to Walker, reflected core American values. The Beetle Bailey comic strip, which is still running, has provided insightful social commentary on the nature of American citizens' relationship with authority since the earliest years of the Cold War, making it an amazing cultural artifact, which will continue to be studied in the future.

For nearly seventy-five years, Beetle Bailey has gently lampooned the U.S. military – though according to creator Mort Walker, the seemingly innocuous, simple comic strip is undergirded by insightful commentary on the nature of the relationship between American citizens and authority. According to Walker, his central character follows the "general rule...

Law & Order: Organized Crime: A Missing Persons Case Left Elliot Stabler Even More Broken Than Before
Rita
Uh oh. We have a serial killer on our hands.

Stabler's devastating discovery on Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 4 Episode 5 is only the beginning of a horrific case reminiscent of the real-life Gilgo Beach killer.

Maybe finding the killer will give him purpose, but he's at his lowest point right now. Where will he go from here?

It always sucks when a missing person is found dead. Before the gruesome discovery, there's always hope they're still somewhere in the world and can be rescued.

In Rita's case, the tragedy is compounded by the fact that Stabler rescued her from the Albanian mob, only for her to end up dead at the hands of a serial killer. Stabler had hoped against hope that she'd be found alive, and when he uncovered her grave, there were no words for his pain.

These scenes were perfect. Although it seemed like Rita was dead,...

10 Villains Perfect For The New Marvel's Blade Game
Image
Marvel's Blade trailer reveals a vampire apocalypse in France, with religious imagery potentially alluding to the arrival of the vampiric priest Draconis. Dracula, Marvel's iconic vampire, may play a part in Marvel's Blade, as he has clashed with Blade in the comics and commands a large legion of the undead. The potential adversaries in Marvel's Blade include Lilith Drake, Dracula's daughter; Xarus, Dracula's son and leader of the vampires; Sarge, a powerful hellhound; the Rat Bomber, who can control rodents; and Baron Blood and Baroness Blood, who have ties to Dracula and the Legion of the Unliving.

Marvel's Blade is Arkane Lyon's upcoming title focusing on Marvel's famous vampire hunter. Although the game's story seems to be a new one for the character, the studio may still incorporate some of the Daywalker's major adversaries from the comics throughout the main campaign.

The trailer for Marvel's Blade was revealed at...

15 Best Band Of Brothers Quotes
Image
