While it still features some of Outlander‘s flaws and a built-in audience, Starz has another hit on its hands.

Now into the month of August, we are drawing closer to the release of some shows billed for premieres later in the year. One of them is the eagerly anticipated prequel series, Outlander: Blood of my Blood, which is set to premiere on August 8 on Starz. The upcoming series is a prequel to Starz's original series, Outlander, which is poised to end its run with an eighth and final season. The 2014 series is based on the novel series written by author Diana Gabaldon, focusing on Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe) and Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), and their love story. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will take us further back in time and focus on Jamie and Claire's parents. So how many seasons will the series have ultimately?

Author Gabaldon is currently writing the tenth novel in the Outlander book series, and it is titled A Blessing for a Warrior Going Out.

The “Outlander: Blood of My Blood” stars celebrated the prequel series’ premiere at the Directors Guild of America in Los Angeles on Monday night and were welcomed by the original show’s cast members Graham McTavish and Sam Heughan.

“It is a strange out-of-body experience,” McTavish said about the “Outlander” universe expansion for Variety’s Behind the Show presented by Starz. “It’s been 11 years since we did the first premiere in San Diego, and I remember that so well. Fans of Outlander got some big news at San Diego Comic-Con, and it might not be what they wanted to hear. During the panel for the show’s final season, the first footage from Season 8 was shown, and it included a shocking moment that has everyone talking.

In the clip, Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) reads a line from a book written by Frank Randall, Claire’s first husband. The line says: “War is coming to the backcountry, and James Fraser dies in it.” It’s a chilling moment that suggests Jamie may not survive the series finale.

Graham McTavish surprised Outlander fans at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, leaving fans roaring with delight.

McTavish, who played Dougal MacKenzie in multiple seasons of the original series, stood up during the Q&a portion of Outlander: Blood of My Blood. McTavish asked Sam Retford, the actor who will play the younger version of his character, a question to close the event.

“Hello, I’m Graham, and I have a question for Sam. First of all, congratulations on the wig and the beard. The fact that you wear it out in public is really, really, really tremendous,” McTavish touted as the crowd went wild.

Outlander‘s Caitriona Balfe has come on board Focus Features’ Sense and Sensibility as filming begins in the United Kingdom. Balfe joins previously announced stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles in the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel.

Okay, the newly-debuted opening title credit sequence for the upcoming Outlander prequel series Blood of My Blood gave me chills. It looks absolutely stunning. We see the landscapes of the Scottish Highlands, a bonfire, and intimate moments between romantic partners, all intercut with the theme song's soft strings and Julie Fowlis's singing in both English and Gaelic.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is less than a month away. The prequel series to the massively successful Outlander is coming to Starz on August 8. The series will show the dual love stories of Jamie Fraser's (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp's (Caitríona Balfe) parents. The show takes fans back to 18th Century Scotland as well as World War I Era Europe. In the trailer released by Starz, their parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), and Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), respectively, find their stories intertwined when Julia ends up in the past after a car accident. As Henry anxiously searches in the present for Julia, she's in 18th Century Scotland more or less playing matchmaker with Jamie's parents, further tying that invisible string together that will give us Jamie and Claire's epic love story that fans watched for eight seasons.
