Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin: “I Really Seriously Don’t Really Do That Much Wrong Things”
Image
Over the past decade or so, Wes Scantlin has become a walking punchline, thanks to his numerous arrests and onstage meltdowns. However, the Puddle of Mudd frontman insists his actions are not as bad as media headlines make them out to be.

Just in the past few years alone, Scantlin has been arrested for trespassing, pepper-balled by a Swat team, and arrested for felony domestic violence, among other legal issues. Earlier this year, he blamed an ex-bandmate for slipping him roofies in explaining a disastrous show at Daytona Bike Week.

Now, in a new interview with SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk (as transcribed by Blabbermouth), the Puddle of Mudd singer-guitarist says his troubles have been blown out of proportion.

“[My] main goal [is] just [to] stay out of trouble,” Scantlin told Trunk when asked about his run-ins with the law. “And I really seriously don...

Puddle of Mudd Announce New Album, Unveil Single “Beautimous”: Stream
Image
Puddle of Mudd have announced a new album, Kiss the Machine, which arrives May 2nd on the heels of frontman Wes Scantlin’s ongoing legal issues, including a felony domestic violence charge in March stemming from a physical altercation with his girlfriend.

Despite those serious charges, Scantlin and company are pushing ahead with the album’s release, offering up the opening track “Beautimous,” a sleazy love song with an upbeat post-grunge sound that’s in line with Puddle of Mudd’s previous work.

“This album was a moment of clarity – me looking in the mirror,” said Scantlin in a press release. “I was there night after night in the studio, learning, recording, pushing myself, and making sure every part of it felt authentic. I’m super proud of how it all came together.”

He added: “I just want people to feel something – to smile, and have some hope in their hearts.

Who Knew Frank Ocean Would Sound Just as Cool as Classical Music? Vitamin String Quartet Sure Did
Image
Based on the image of an enigmatic billboard that appeared this week, Frank Ocean may or may not be on the cusp of a return, either on record or onstage at Coachella. But in the meantime, his music is back in another area: the classical music world.

The Vitamin String Quartet, a long-standing ensemble that’s made a career out of transforming pop, rock, alt rock, and K-pop songs into mini-symphonies, has just released an instrumental version of Ocean’s Channel Orange track “Lost.” Even without a singer, the mournful...

Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin Claims He Was Roofied by Ex-Bandmate Leading Up to Disastrous Show
Image
Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin is once again catching flak after a messy performance at a benefit show on Saturday (March 1st) during Daytona Bike Week in Florida, and now the frontman is claiming that he was drugged prior to the set.

Puddle of Mudd were booked to headline the benefit gig, which included an auction for a signed guitar, proceeds benefitting St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. The afternoon started out on a positive note, with the guitar fetching a winning bid of $5,000.

Then Puddle of Mudd took the stage, and things apparently went downhill fast. Multiple comments on the Facebook page for the venue Broken Spoke Saloon described Puddle of Mudd’s set as “terrible,” mainly due to Scantlin’s impaired stage presence.

“Last night’s show was a total disaster,” read one comment. “I felt really bad for the rest of his band.” Another added,...

Dierks Bentley Is Terrorized by a Vengeful Ex in Outrageous ‘She Hates Me’ Video
Image
Busted car windows, graffiti on the walls, and a spiked drink… Yes, Dierks Bentley, she clearly hates you. On Friday, the country star released the charmingly silly video for his new single “She Hates You,” in which he’s haunted by a crazy ex-girlfriend holding onto some deep hard feelings.

“We were goofing around with this idea before diving into our next ‘serious’ song, really just trying to make each other laugh. It just fell out, and I didn’t think much more about it after that,” Bentley said in...

10 Heavy Rock Songs Guaranteed To Make You Cry
Image
Warning: this article contains discussion of suicidal ideation and gun violence, as well as depictions of self-harm.There are a lot of reasons to love hard rock music. As a genre, it's incredibly flexible and powerful, and it's always evolving; what we think of as just "hard" today would have been considered heavy metal back in the 80s, while much of what used to be metal has, through technology and tastes changing and the increasing homogenization of what gets radio play, lost a lot of its edge over the years. Yet hard rock lovers always come back to the rawness of the genre — how, sometimes at the cost of eloquence, it's about unfiltered emotion.

Lots of hard rock is uptempo and full of bravado, which is why it's commonly used in commercials for such macho products as lite beer and pickup trucks with beds that are too short to carry lumber.

Puddle of Mudd’s Wes Scantlin Pepper-Balled by Swat Team After Standoff
Image
Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin was booked at a local jail on Wednesday (July 31st) on an outstanding warrant and for resisting arrest, stemming from an incident in which he allegedly refused to get out of his car and was subsequently pepper-balled by a Swat team.

According to TMZ, Scantlin was pulled over in his black Hummer H2 in Burbank, California, for a traffic stop, and when officers found out that the rocker had an outstanding warrant for possessing a weapon at an airport, they asked him to get out of the car.

Scantlin apparently refused to exit the vehicle, at which point a crisis negotiator was called. Officers then tried to use pepper spray on the singer-guitarist, but that didn’t work either. At that point, they called in a Swat team, which promptly broke one of the car windows and shot non-lethal pepper balls to finally get...

Venue Bans Puddle of Mudd After Cancellation: “This Is 100% Wes” [Updated]
Image
A Michigan venue has put Puddle of Mudd frontman Wes Scantlin on blast after the band apparently canceled its upcoming shows, effectively banning the rock act from playing there ever again.

Puddle of Mudd were set to play a two-night stand at The Machine Shop in Flint on September 15th and 16th. However, a post on the venue’s Facebook page stated the band had canceled all of its upcoming live performances, including the two shows at The Machine Shop. In making the announcement, the venue put the entirety of the blame on Scantlin.

The Machine Shop’s post read:

“Puddle Of Mudd has cancelled all their upcoming concerts including the shows September 15 and 16 at The Machine Shop. This is not a ‘due to circumstances beyond our control’ cancellation. This is 100% Wes. The Machine Shop, his band and everyone involved are very disappointed.

We will not be postponing the shows...

Puddle of Mudd Announce New Album Ubiquitous, Unveil Single “My Baby”: Stream
Image
Puddle of Mudd will return with a new album titled Ubiquitous on September 8th. In advance of the LP, the band has unveiled the single “My Baby.”

In recent years, frontman Wes Scantlin has made more headlines for his legal troubles and onstage meltdowns than his music, but Puddle of Mudd keep chugging along. Ubiquitous will serve as the follow-up to 2019’s Welcome to Galvania, which had marked the band’s first album in 10 years.

In a brief statement, Scantlin said, “Fans can expect another really catchy, hooky record from Puddle of Mudd!”

The single “My Baby” is indeed hooky, with a clear Nirvana influence in the verses. Scantlin infamously delivered a woeful cover of Nirvana’s “About a Girl” a few years ago, later admitting that the performance “looked and sounded like total shit.”

Puddle of Mudd have a smattering of US shows coming up throughout the next few months.

Foo Fighters Cover Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs” at Sonic Temple: Watch
Image
On Sunday, Foo Fighters closed out the 2023 Sonic Temple Art & Music Festival in Columbus, Ohio. It marked the band’s third gig with new live drummer Josh Freese, and as a way to introduce him to the Foo Fighters faithful, Dave Grohl dedicated a portion of the set to covering a few songs from Freese’s previous bands. Notably, they included a brief but epic rendition of Nine Inch Nails’ “March of the Pigs.”

The “March of the Pigs cover” came as part of a medley that also included Devo’s “Whip It” and Puddle of Mudd’s “Blurry.” Prior to linking up with Foo Fighters, Freese drummed for Nin between 2005 and 2008, and contributed to Puddle of Mudd’s 2001 album Come Clean. He has also served as Devo’s live drummer since 1996. Watch fan-captured footage below.

This past weekend, Foo Fighters also headlining Boston Calling, where they were joined by...
