Katie Cassidy to lead Nanny Cam, new horror movie from Jenni 'JWoww' Farley
Image
Former Arrow star and known scream queen Katie Cassidy has signed onto a new horror movie! Nanny Cam is a thriller from Jenni "JWoww" Farley, the reality star best known for the long-running Jersey Shore franchise.

Farley previously entered the horror movie scene with her 2024 film Devon, which followed a group of people investigating an abandoned asylum in search of their missing daughter who disappeared from the institution years before. Terrifier distributor Cineverse picked up Devon and it later released on Screambox. Deadline reports that, like Devon, Farley will write and direct Nanny Cam.

Cassidy is best known for playing Laurel Lance in The CW's Arrowverse, but the actress has also starred in many horror/thriller films, such as the 2010 remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street, the 2006 Black Christmas remake, Wolves at the Door, Kill for Me, and The Scribbler.

In Nanny Cam, she plays new mother Trinity, "who...

10 Best Shows Like ‘New Girl’ To Watch If You Love the Series
Image
New Girl is definitely one of the most heartwarmingly funny series about friends and love created by Elizabeth Meriwether. The Fox comedy series follows the chirpy and naive Jessica as she moves into a loft with 3 guys who are equally as quirky and weird. New Girl stars Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris, Damon Wayans Jr., Nasim Pedrad, and Megan Fox. New Girl lasted for seven seasons ending its run in 2018, so if you loved the unending optimism, quirky personalities, and a group of young friends trying to find their way here are some similar shows you should check out next.

Redmond Bacon Top 10 Features of 2022
Image
It has been a great year for character studies. Half of the films on my best of 2022 are primarily focused on just one or two performances, using longer-than-expected runtimes to dig into what truly makes them tick. From disgraced conductors to larger-than-life sex workers to pathological liars to Melbourne commuters, perhaps the only thing these character studies have in common is a willingness to go deep into the universal condition of what makes us human. It has made for a satisfying year. Complemented by genre pictures, ranging from sci-fi spectacle to eat-the-rich satire to the road movie, 2022 has delighted and surprised, with great films coming in from nine different countries and three different continents. Here are my picks for the 10 best films of the year.

Honourable mentions: Sick of Myself, Elvis, Black Night, Piggy, The Bear Season One, Episode Seven, Argentina vs Holland Quarter Final.

Rule 34 - Jennie Kermode - 17986
Sol Miranda
Why do most of us obey the law even when nobody is watching? Rules of one sort or another help to create social frameworks which make interaction safer and more peaceful, but they also affect the way we think and the decisions we make. Some rules are created privately as part of a process of self-discipline or to protect us from temptation. They may not even be conscious, but when somebody suggests breaking them, we realise that they’re there.

Simone (Sol Miranda) deals with one set of rules in class as a law student and with another on the website through which she pays for her studies, working as a cam girl. She also has private rules about what she will and won’t do. These help to keep her safe at work but they bleed over into her personal life. When her girlfriend, who works in the same industry,...

Extending her limits by Jennie Kermode
Júlia Murat
Rule 34 Photo: courtesy of Newfest

When I connect with her, Brazilian director Júlia Murat has recently arrived in New York City for this year’s Newfest, where her film Rule 34 (Regla 34) is to screen. It’s the story of Simone (played by Sol Miranda), a young woman who works as a cam girl in order to support herself through law school. When a girlfriend and fellow sex worker tries to persuade her to experiment with pain and bondage, Simone is initially reluctant, not least because of the semiotics of putting herself in that position as a black woman, but as she begins to test boundaries in both her private and professional lives, she embarks on a journey which changes her perspective on the world and the way she interacts with other people.

The idea, Júlia tells me, was to develop a character who is distanced from the world and is in some ways extremely.

Brazil’s ‘Rule 34’ Drops Trailer Before Locarno Main International Competition Bow (Exclusive)
Image
Brazilian filmmaker Julia Murat’s provocative drama “Rule 34” (“Regra 34”) has shared its trailer exclusively with Variety before its bow at the Locarno Film Festival.

If the trailer is anything to go by, the movie will make the filmmakers behind “50 Shades of Gray” blush. “Rule 34” competes in the official section of the Swiss festival which posts the following disclaimer on its site: “This film features scenes that could shock the sensitivity of some viewers.”

As explained in the Urban Dictionary, Rule 34 refers to “the 34th rule of the Internet, which states that any object, character, or media franchise imaginable has porn associated with it.”

“Rule 34” turns on 23-year-old Simone (played by Sol Miranda) who studies criminal law and advocates for women’s rights. By day she studies law and martial arts; by night she performs in front of a live sex cam in exchange for tokens. One night, while watching a Bdsm film online,...

Tina Fey’s Ellie Kemper-Led Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Moves To Netflix; Renewed For Season 2
30 Rock creator Tina Fey’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, a comedy set to star The Office‘s Ellie Kemper, is moving from NBC to Netflix, where it has been pre-emptively renewed for a second season.

NBC originally snagged the comedy, about a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life over in New York, following a bidding war involving multiple major networks. However, the show, which Fey co-exec produces with her former 30 Rock partner Robert Carlock, was left off the network’s fall slate and never received a time slot, despite having been ordered straight to series.

Said NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt:

“When the opportunity arose for Tina Fey and Robert Carlock to premiere their new show on Netflix with a two-season commitment, we decided this was the best possible scenario to launch this captivating new series. While it was originally developed for NBC, we have a...
