Such Sights to Show You: Reimagining the Cenobites for a New ‘Hellraiser’
Image
Recreating the nightmarish visions of Clive Barker’s “Hellraiser” was always going to be a mammoth task. “It’s the top tier of both the most rewarding dream job and the hardest thing we’ve ever had to do,” recalled Josh Russell, the special makeup effects supervisor on Hulu’s remake of the 1987 horror classic. “This was the biggest creature effects movie shooting anywhere in the world at the time.”

A significant factor in the new film’s success or failure was the creation of the hellish Cenobites, whose leader, Pinhead, is a horror icon on the level of Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. Russell’s initial stab at ensuring that success took place on an accelerated timeline: Presented with finished designs from lead concept designer Keith Thompson, Russell and his wife, Sienna, had just three days to prep for a meeting with the studio.

The Thing (2011): Unused Alien Pilot Concept Art & Creepy Transformation Sculptures
Artist, Paul Komoda, uploaded concept art of the Juliette creature, Alien Pilot, and Griggs' transformation in the helicopter scene. The Alien Pilot is very interesting because the creature was meant to appear at the very end, but producers ditched it for a different conclusion. "Basically that spaceship would have been originally crewed by an alien race which, as it was relayed to me, would have been on a planet to planet zoological expedition, collecting different creatures and storing them in these containment pods" - Paul Komoda You'll find galleries from a couple of the sculptors on the project, Mikey Rotella and Casey Love. As a bonus, I also added Casey's images that document his time working with Rick Baker and his crew on Men In Black 3 alien designs. Enjoy! G. Cameron Romero’s Staunton Hill coming to DVD
Anchor Bay Entertainment gave Fango the official word that it’s releasing Staunton Hill to DVD next month (see the cover art below). The movie, which streets October 6, was directed by G. Cameron Romero, son of zombie master George A. Romero.

Scripted by David Rountree (who also co-stars), Staunton Hill is set at the titular locale in the middle of a remote mountain area. A group of hikers arrive for a weekend jaunt and wind up on the Staunton family property—and needless to say, this twisted bunch doesn’t take kindly to trespassers, setting out to stalk and kill them. The junior Romero’s second fright feature after the as-yet unreleased The Screening, Staunton Hill also toplines Kathy Lamkin (Tea Lady from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake and its prequel), Cristen Coppen, Kiko Ellsworth, Christine Carlo, Paula Rhodes, Charlie Bodin, B.J. Hendricks and The Funhouse’s Cooper Huckabee; the...
