The Challenge: All Stars Is Losing Its Edge — Here’s How to Fix It
Image
The Challenge: All Stars started with a fantastic idea, but the Og concept seriously fell off with the recent All Stars Rivals.

While the throwback concept brought intriguing pairings and a few returning OGs that made it watchable, it lost the luster that arrived with the first several seasons.

And when that fifth season arrived, The Challenge: All Stars aired on a different network, and producers changed what initially worked, seemingly frustrating many fans.

(MTV/Screenshot)

We received some OGs and then cast members from recent seasons of The Challenge, arriving from CBS or other networks’ reality TV shows.

However, I believe All Stars can keep going and it’s apparent that the man who brought this concept to life, The Godfather Mark Long, is doing his darndest to keep things moving in the right direction.

Image
The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras brought back some of The Challenge's best contestants from the first to the latest seasons to determine which era will emerge victorious. The 40th season premiered on MTV to high ratings last year and was arguably deemed the reality show's best season yet. Now, the iconic 40th season of The Challenge will be available to a large audience. According to Variety, The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras is set to debut on Paramount+ on April 23, 2025.

The Challenge brings together some familiar MTV faces, who all compete in a series of extreme challenges for a whopping cash prize. It started as a spin-off to The Real World and Road Rules back in 1998 and has become one of MTV's longest reality competition series. The show originally featured contestants who first appeared on the said shows and has since expanded into a bigger franchise,...

The Challenge star Brad Fiorenza surprises fans and castmates with new look
Image
Brad Fiorenza and his beard returned to The Challenge in the past several years, first competing on the All Stars spin-offs before appearing in several of MTV’s flagship seasons.

He arrived at Battle For a New Champion as one of the former winners that competed in one elimination as a mercenary. Viewers saw Kyland Young defeat him.

Brad competed on Season 40, aka Battle of the Eras, where he was part of the Era 1 team with other MTV OGs.

However, viewers saw the OGs quickly eliminated from the show, except for Rachel Robinson, who won along with Jordan Wiseley and Jenny West. Brad survived until Episode 6, when Cory Wharton eliminated him.

He didn’t return for All Stars Rivals, although some of his Season 40 castmates, including Leroy Garrett, Devin, Aneesa Ferreira, and Katie Cooley, participated.

As that season airs on MTV, Brad recently surprised everyone by debuting a fresh new...

The Challenge’s Mark Long teases return of iconic theme and former castmates to All Stars
Image
The Challenge: All Stars is airing Season 5, featuring the classic Rivals theme from previous seasons.

During its many seasons, the flagship featured three Rivals seasons, including the memorable Rivals III, where Johnny Bananas stunned his teammate Sarah Rice and claimed all the prize money for himself.

All Stars Rivals also includes pairs of castmates with a feud, whether it’s due to a former argument, falling out, throwing shade, or backstabbing move from the game.

Among the teams are Nany Gonzalez with Turabi “Turbo” Camkiran, Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat with Amber Borzotra, Veronica Portillo with Katie Cooley, and Ashley Mitchell with Aneesa Ferreira.

Former showmance couple Dario Medrano and Ashley Kelsey seem to get along despite their differences.

They might also qualify for the iconic theme Mark Long recently mentioned that fans shared feedback about.

The Challenge’s Zach Nichols tells former show winner: ‘You suck’
Image
Zach Nichols didn’t hide his opinion about one of The Challenge’s former winners.

The former Real World: San Diego star and Battle of the Seasons 2012 winner hosts the Zach Nichols Podcast and regularly reviews the MTV competition show, its players, and its seasons.

He recently had guest Kyland Young on his show, who officially reached his first-ever final during MTV’s Season 40, aka Battle of the Eras.

Kyland, a former Big Brother houseguest, debuted on CBS’ The Challenge: USA spinoff, but he wasn’t a finalist because he was eliminated before that.

He then got a spot on the flagship show for MTV’s Season 39, aka Battle For a New Champion.

That season was bittersweet for Kyland, as he had a showmance with Melissa Reeves but also found himself in multiple eliminations. Nonetheless, he said it helped him with his Challenge career.

The Challenge’s Zach Nichols suggests Derek Chavez used ‘mental game’ on Cory Wharton before elimination
Image
Former The Challenge winner Zach Nichols knows that MTV’s competition series isn’t just a game that’s won physically but also mentally.

He previously won with several of his The Real World castmates on Battle of the Seasons in 2012 and returned to the final several more times after.

While he’s not in the epic Battle of the Eras season, many of his former castmates are, including Cory Wharton and Derek Chavez.

Cory and Derek faced off in the Episode 16 elimination after previous elimination winner Jenny West selected them among her three targets.

The event wasn’t a head-to-head physical competition, so fortune was on Derek’s side. Instead, the objective was to be the first to carry cinder blocks to a platform in the sand and correctly assemble the puzzle pictured on the blocks.

Using a smart strategy for the event, Derek managed to oust the multi-time finalist Cory from the game,...

The Challenge’s Leroy Garrett calls out former castmate Zach Nichols as ‘funny but disrespectful’
Nany González, Michael Ross, Naomi Defensor, Adam Royer, and Leroy Garrett in The Real World (1992)
Leroy Garrett is considered one of the funniest cast members to ever appear on The Challenge, whether that’s by castmates or fans.

He often delivers hilarious remarks during the episodes’ confessional interviews or while talking to castmates during other events.

However, he’s got a list of castmates he considers some of the funniest people he’s appeared with on the show.

Despite how some might interpret his remarks, Leroy even included Zach Nichols among those funny people.

Zach ruffled features within the past month as he called out friend Laurel Stucky’s behavior on MTV’s Season 40.

The Battle of the Eras star stopped by Zach’s podcast to discuss his return to the MTV show following his All Stars 4 return.

Leroy says Zach is ‘funny but disrespectful’ sometimes

While on the Zach Nichols Podcast, Leroy said he wanted to support anything other Challengers do, including Zach’s podcast.

The Challenge’s Josh Martinez reacts to Cory Wharton’s warning after Battle of the Eras drama
Image
A war of words erupted on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras between friends Josh Martinez and Cory Wharton, leading to further remarks on social media.

During the recent installment of MTV’s competition show, viewers saw the era teams face off in a Gladiator-themed daily challenge involving large shields and trying to push opposing players into the nearby water.

Era 4 came away with the victory, giving their targets, Jenny West and Theo Campbell, the power to decide which players went into the elimination against Era 1’s Derrick Kosinski and Rachel Robinson.

Potential picks for The Arena included Era 3’s Cory and Averey Tressler or Era 2’s Derek Chavez and Cara Maria Sorbello.

Ultimately, Cory and Averey got sent in. Cory became upset that his friend and ally, Josh Martinez, didn’t dissuade his Era 4 teammates from putting him into the elimination.

Following his televised victory over Derrick,...

Brad Fiorenza Explains ‘Trauma’ From ‘The Challenge’ Season 40
Image
Brad Fiorenza is a legend for The Challenge, but anyone could see that he struggled mightily in Season 40. This was The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, and Brad admits that he suffered through a traumatic experience while shooting that season of the hit reality TV series.

Here is what Brad said about that specific season.

Brad Fiorenza Suffered “Sleepless Nights” On The Challenge

Brad Fiorenza competed in The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, which was Season 40 of the hit MTV reality TV competition series. He was part of the Era 1 team, along with names like Chris “Ct” Tamburello, Rachel Robinson, Mark Long, and Tina Barta.

The Challenge’s Brad Fiorenza recalls ‘traumatic experience’ going on and ‘sleepless nights’ during Season 40
Brad Fiorenza in The Challenge (1998)
According to Brad Fiorenza, he once again wasn’t in the best headspace when he competed on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

Brad was part of the legendary Era 1 team on the 40-person cast, including other MTV OGs such as Chris “Ct” Tamburello, Tina Barta, Mark Long, and Rachel Robinson.

After appearing on multiple installments of The Challenge: All Stars spin-off and his mercenary guest role in MTV’s Season 39, he appeared as part of MTV’s flagship show for his first full-time season since Final Reckoning.

However, his time competing on Battle of the Eras got cut short due to his lack of strategy and success in the elimination event.

Era 3’s Cory Wharton defeated Brad in a game that involved throwing balls at speartips pointing out from a wall. Cory managed to get more of the balls he threw to stick on spears and eliminated all...

The Challenge star Josh Martinez blasted by fans for being ‘scared’ and ‘easily manipulated’ in Season 40
Image
Josh Martinez has become one of the most polarizing cast members in The Challenge’s 39-season history, and fans continue to criticize him during Season 40.

Despite multiple appearances, the former Big Brother winner has yet to reach a final, let alone win a season of MTV’s competition series.

His appearance in MTV’s Battle of the Eras surprised some fans who might have expected his fellow castmate and another Big Brother star, Faysal “Fessy” Shafaat, to be there.

However, it’s hard to argue against Josh being an individual who brought some of the show’s emotional and dramatic moments in recent seasons. Those highlights seemingly qualified him for Season 40’s Era 4 team.

He’s survived past eliminations through most of the early season because he hadn’t been a target for his team. However, that nearly changed in Episode 5.

Luckily for Josh and his teammate Jenny West, Era 4 won the daily challenge,...

The Challenge’s Jonna Mannion claims she was ‘set up’ by her team on Season 40
Jonna Mannion in The Challenge (1998)
Jonna Mannion says that her going into elimination on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras was due to a setup by her team.

Jonna, a former Real World: Cancun cast member, achieved back-to-back wins during her return for The Challenge: All Stars spin-off.

She also appeared on the World Championship spin-off, but her time competing there got cut short due to her partner’s unfortunate injury.

It was her first MTV season since 2015’s Battle of the Exes II, and she joined the Era 3 team, which also featured show winners Jordan Wisely, Tori Deal, and Devin Walker.

However, Episode 5 saw Jonna and her teammate Cory Wharton as her team’s targets heading into elimination.

While Cory managed to oust Era 1’s Brad Fiorenza from the game, Jonna couldn’t defeat former The Challenge winner Rachel Robinson.

MTV's Biggest Challenge Scandal That Left Three Fan-Favorites Banned For Life

Your browser does not support the video tag. The Challenge 40 brings back Og champs, but Kenny Santucci and Evan Starkman are notably absent. Kenny and Evan were banned from The Challenge due to a scandal involving Tonya Cooley in 2009. The Challenge: Mark Long calls Season 40 castmate a ‘wildcard’ on Battle of the Eras team
Mark Long and Robin Hibbard in The Challenge (1998)
Mark Long is “The Godfather” of The Challenge, so it’s only fitting that he’ll represent Era 1 in the upcoming Battle of the Eras.

He’ll have nine other Og castmates with him, several of whom have appeared on the All Stars spinoff seasons with him.

They include Brad Fiorenza, Jodi Weatherton, Darrell Taylor, Derrick Kosinski, Katie Cooley, and Aneesa Ferreira.

However, several of Mark’s castmates, including Rachel Robinson and Chris “Ct” Tamburello, have yet to participate in a season of the All Stars spinoff with Mark as their castmate.

He recently discussed MTV’s upcoming Battle of the Eras season with his friend Johnny Bananas on the Death, Taxes, and Bananas podcast.

During the episode, Mark talked about his team’s chances of competing with the other Era teams and revealed which teammate he felt was a “wildcard” for Era 1.

The Challenge’s Brad Fiorenza reveals ‘nightmare experience’ and sleepless nights impacted him on All Stars 4
Brad Fiorenza in The Challenge (1998)
While Brad Fiorenza is among the toughest competitors to appear in The Challenge, he admitted he wasn’t mentally checked in for All Stars 4.

The former MTV champion appeared in the spinoff for his third straight season, joining newcomers like Leroy Garrett, Adam Larson, and Brandon Nelson.

In his previous appearance, Brad was among the spinoff’s finalists with Mark Long, Nehemiah Clark, and men’s winner Wes Bergmann.

He also performed well during All Stars 2, with he and teammate Jodi Weatherton nearly reaching the final.

However, All Stars 4 wasn’t one of Brad’s better performances. He performed poorly during many daily challenges and surprisingly got eliminated by Adam relatively early in the season.

The Challenge’s Wes Bergmann wants classic reality TV show’s return, but fans aren’t sure

Wes Bergmann is among The Challenge’s greats and is considered an MTV Og due to his start on the network.

The two-time winner of MTV’s The Challenge and All Stars 3 spinoff winner debuted on 2005’s The Real World: Austin. His castmates included fellow future Challengers Nehemiah Clark and Melinda Stolp.

After multiple seasons of The Challenge, Wes announced his retirement from the franchise during CBS’ USA 2 spinoff. He was not among the cast members revealed for MTV’s Season 40.

Still, he’ll likely be rooting for his Og castmates on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, including Johnny Bananas, Nehemiah Clark, Ct Tamburello, Jonna Mannion, and KellyAnne Judd.

They all share the commonality of starting on the now-defunct reality TV show, The Real World.

According to Wes, it’s time for someone to bring back the iconic reality TV show, although fans had mixed reactions.

The Challenge: All Stars Og calls out Ct Tamubrello for Hall Brawl: ‘I’m not afraid of him’
Image
Chris “Ct” Tamburello is typically considered an intimidating competitor by most of his opponents on MTV’s The Challenge.

The five-time champion has shown abilities to excel in all aspects of the game, whether devouring disgusting food, solving puzzles, or physical tasks.

While he’s tamed his inner beast regarding physical altercations with castmates, that beast still exists regarding eliminations.

Fans often refer to his highlight moment when he wore castmate Johnny Bananas like a backpack to win an elimination.

While most competitors wouldn’t want to go against Ct in a physical elimination, an All Stars cast member doesn’t seem fearful about challenging him.

The returning Og claimed he could defeat anyone in that classic elimination event despite not being part of the show for many years.

The Challenge: Johnny Bananas’ castmate says it’s ‘crazy’ they make him a ‘villain’ on the show

Many of The Challenge fans consider Johnny Bananas the greatest of all time due to winning seven seasons of the competition series.

However, his championships haven’t always come without some controversies.

He was part of an infamous moment during his Rivals III win alongside Sarah Rice when he received an option to split the first-place prize money or keep it all to himself.

The rest is history, and villainous words and actions by Bananas on the show qualified him for newer reality shows like E!’s House of Villains and Peacock’s The Traitors 2.

While not all his castmates are his biggest fans or supporters, he has plenty of allies when he plays The Challenge.

His castmate, Ace Amerson, recently appeared on the Death, Taxes, and Bananas podcast and discussed Bananas’ portrayal as a villain.

The Challenge’s Derrick Kosinski says All Stars 4 finalist might be ‘more worthy winner’ than previous champ

The Og initially appeared on Road Rules and later won three seasons of MTV’s competition series. He returned to compete in the first three seasons of the All Stars spinoff.

Derrick reached the final in that first season but was eliminated during the event’s first leg due to struggles steering a kayak or canoe.

While he’s not part of the All Stars 4 cast, he and Challenge Mania podcast host Scott Yager have been reviewing the season.

They recently highlighted the show’s eight finalists, which Episode 11 revealed, with Derrick praising a former All Stars castmate.

The Challenge: All Stars 4, Episode 11 featured shocking announcement for cast members
T.J. Lavin
Competitors faced a difficult situation on The Challenge: All Stars 4, Episode 11.

At the start of the season, host Tj Lavin revealed that competitors needed to earn a Star.

In the first daily challenge, Tj indicated that Stars went to the three male and three female competitors who performed the best.

After that, they could only be acquired or given to a castmate by winning an elimination. Tj continually delivered the point of having a Star to cast members throughout the episodes.

During Episode 10, viewers saw Steve Meinke win an elimination against Jay Gotti, who chose to go into the elimination to try to win his Star.

With the win, Steve chose to take a star from castmate Adam Larson and give it to Ace Amerson. That set things up for an exciting situation when Episode 11 arrived.

Sometimes remarks are taken out of context on The Challenge, but according to Adam Larson, he had good reason to refer to his castmate Cara Maria Sorbello as “shady.”

The former Road Rules star made his remark in The Challenge: All Stars 4, which he returned to compete in after 18 years away from reality television.

During a recent episode, multiple cast members agreed to work together to prevent Cara from winning the daily challenge.

Kam Williams masterminded the plan so someone could steal Cara’s Star, which host Tj Lavin said competitors needed to advance to the final.

“Cara Maria is playing a shady game,” Adam said in a confessional, adding, “So our priority is getting her balls knocked out. Then we want to make sure that Leroy [Garrett] and I both have voices, so our balls are gonna go next. The last balls that should be left in the net are...

According to former The Challenge winner Brad Fiorenza, All Stars 4 was a “real challenge” for him for several reasons.

With the spinoff’s fourth season, it was Brad’s third-straight season attempting to win the show.

He came closest in Season 3, finishing second overall for the men behind winner Wes Bergmann.

That season also saw Brad win several daily challenges and an in-final elimination event against his Og castmate, Mark Long.

However, All Stars 4 resulted in a disappointing finish for the former Real World: San Diego star, as he found himself eliminated by castmate Adam Larson.

Brad recently explained why the return for the spinoff was not his “best work” competing on The Challenge.

Brad's Failure on 'The Challenge All Stars 4' Means More Than You Think
Image
Brad Fiorenza has been a perennial face on The Challenge since he came off of The Real World: San Diego. He has had a great run throughout his tenure; he even found love on the show. As one of the faces of the early run of the flagship program, Brad has always been seen as a formidable threat. Just a season earlier, Brad was in Tj Lavin's final. But the fire was missing this season and Brad performed possibly the worst he has ever fared on The Challenge. Brad is proof that no matter your status as a Challenger and your history on the show, not performing up to your full potential can ruin your chances of winning. There are no free passes on The Challenge not even from your friends, who want to win themselves and see you as a liability. MTV's The Challenge: All Stars 4 is not for the weak.

‘Challenge: All Stars 4’: Brad Fiorenza Reveals Heartbreak & Lack of Sleep Contributed to His Elimination
Image
Brad Fiorenza is one of the most seasoned veterans in the cast of The Challenge: All Stars Season 4, and he knows better than anyone that this was simply not his season. It started out strongly enough. Once the vet-heavy cast got settled into their Capetown, South Africa-set mansion, they competed in an individual challenge that saw him finish in second, beating out every other guy in the game. However, once the team challenges got underway — and so many of them were tricky brain games — Fiorenza found himself in the bottom more often than not. Following his exit from the game, TV Insider caught up with Brad Fiorenza to find out his perspective on the season, what fans might not have seen, and what exactly was going on with that baby towel situation. This season, you seem to have a little bit of trouble. But the thing was, in the first challenge,...

The Challenge: All Stars 4 brought back familiar faces from MTV’s past, including a champion looking for another win and former finalists looking to win their first version of the competition show.

Former Real World: Skeletons star Nicole Zanatta was among those former finalists, who many consider a threat to win the spinoff season.

Viewers saw her appear in the final in two out of three seasons for MTV’s show, and an unfortunate injury disqualified her from continuing towards another final in her third season.

Now, she’s back for the fourth season of All Stars, where she contends with show winners Cara Maria Sorbello, Brad Fiorenza, and Rachel Robinson.

There’s also former winner Laurel Stucky, who happens to be Nicole’s ex, adding another complexity to focusing on the game.

During a recent appearance on the Zach Nichols Podcast, she shared why she has difficulty winning a final.
