Buffy The Vampire Slayer TV Reboot Gets Unexpected Update From Dolly Parton
Image
Dolly Parton provides an update on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, saying there is still work being done to "revamp" it. The planned 2018 reboot faced various challenges and is on an indefinite pause. Other spinoff ideas, like a prequel centered on Rupert Giles or a series focused on Faith, were pitched but never materialized.

The long-gestating Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot gets an update from Dolly Parton, who was an uncredited producer on the original show. The news of a revived take on Buffy again gained steam in 2018. That development had begun the reboot process of the game-changing supernatural teen drama, and Monica Owusu-Breen would be the showrunner. At the time, it was reported that series creator Joss Whedon would be involved as an executive producer, in addition to working on the script with Owusu-Breen. As of August 2022, however, original executive producer Gail Berman confirmed that the Buffy reboot is on pause.

Video Interview: Scout Taylor-Compton and Director Damien LeVeck Discuss Their New Holiday Horror Film A Creature Was Stirring
Image
Seeking shelter from a blizzard during Christmastime, two hikers (played by Scout Taylor-Compton and Connor Paolo) get more than they bargained for when they break into the house of a mother (Chrissy Metz) and her daughter (Annalise Basso), who are harboring a transformative—and deadly—secret in the new (and very aptly named) holiday horror film A Creature Was Stirring.

An eerily unpredictable and intensely entertaining gift for horror fans to unwrap this holiday season, A Creature Was Stirring is coming to theaters on December 8th and Digital on December 12th via Well Go USA.

In a new video interview, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of catching up with star Scout Taylor-Compton and director Damien LeVeck to discuss the making of their ambitious new movie, from Shannon Wells' impressive script and the movie's exploration of damaging addictions to bringing the film's haunting creature to life with palpable practical effects...

‘A Creature Was Stirring’ Review – Christmas Horror Movie Struggles to Execute Its Admirable Ideas
Image
The differences between Damien LeVeck’s sophomore effort A Creature Was Stirring and his feature debut The Cleansing Hour are staggering. His instincts are ironclad in the cleanly polished and despicable exorcism thriller that stands as one of Shudder’s best original releases in 2020. Unfortunately, A Creature Was Stirring doesn’t replicate the same accomplished approach as an ambitious yet scattershot blast of subgenres. Psychological chills, creature thrills, and family dysfunction become this unfocused commentary on the looming specter of addiction. LeVeck takes risk after risk — the filmmaker’s fearlessness should not be ignored — but there’s a befuddling all-over-the-place-ness that does not play into the film’s favor.

Chrissy Metz (of This Is Us fame) stars as the seemingly single mother Faith, who we meet barricaded inside with her daughter Charm (Annalise Basso) during a lethal blizzard. Now, Charm suffers from some affliction that Faith uses her nursing background...

No, Eboni K. Williams Hasn’t Watched the New ‘Rhony’ Yet — She’s Too Busy Being a Judge on Her Own Court Show
Image
If there’s one thing Eboni K. Williams knows how to do, it’s finding the best ways to balance the good, the bad and the messy. As the “Real Housewives” alum embarks on her latest endeavor as the head of her own courtroom TV show — “Equal Justice With Judge Eboni K. Williams,” which premieres in syndication on Sept. 11 — she explores why America needs her unfiltered legal opinions.

Williams, a former public defender turned political pundit and reality star, previously made history as the first Black cast member to join “The Real Housewives of New York City” in Season 13, a season that lives on in infamy. Now 40, Williams becomes the youngest judge in the daytime syndicated TV space — and, while the space is its own beast, it’s one she’s excited to conquer.

But make no mistake, Williams, who also hosts the “Holding Court” podcast, hasn’t completely walked...

Soviet-Era Kung Fu Comedy ‘The Invisible Fight’ Boarded by LevelK Ahead of Locarno Premiere (Exclusive)
Image
LevelK has boarded “The Invisible Fight,” Estonian director Rainer Sarnet’s kung fu comedy set in an Orthodox monastery in the former Soviet Union. The film world premieres Aug. 11 in the main competition of the Locarno Film Festival.

“The Invisible Fight” is set in 1973 on the Soviet-Chinese border, where Private Rafael is on guard duty when his border post is attacked by a band of Chinese warriors schooled in the ancient art of kung fu. The only one to miraculously survive, Rafael, is fascinated by the long-haired, black-clad, kung fu hippies flying through the treetops while blasting forbidden Black Sabbath music from their portable radio. He’s suddenly struck by a revelation: he, too, wants to become a kung fu warrior.

Faith leads Rafael to an Orthodox monastery where the black-clad monks do their training, but his road to achieving the almighty power of humility required is long, winding and full of adventures.
