Naveen Mu is a self-taught filmmaker who believes stories choose their tellers. He began his journey behind the camera as an assistant to National Award-winning director Raju Murugan on Joker (2016), and later served as First AD on the politically charged road film Gypsy (2020).
His debut short film as a writer-director, Little Wings (2022), received widespread recognition on the international festival circuit. The film won Best Short Film (Fiction) at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala (IDSFFK) and Best Film at the Shades International Short Film Festival. It also earned seven other nominations, including at prestigious festivals such as the Mumbai International Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, New York Indian Film Festival, Regina International Film Festival (RIFFA), and International Film Festival of South Asia - Toronto (IFFSA).
In 2023, Little Wings was also nominated at the Critics' Choice Film Awards, India, for Best Director (Short Film) and Best Writing (Short Film) - establishing Naveen as a compelling new voice in Indian independent cinema.
Before films, Naveen was a storyteller on the page. His short fiction SPB Super Hits was published in Ananda Vikatan, one of Tamil Nadu's most iconic weeklies.
Currently, Naveen is part of the creative team under legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam, sharpening his craft in the shadows of giants while shaping his own voice-one frame at a time.
