Yoko Ono Tried to Warn John Lennon That His Life Was in Danger But The Beatles’ Lead Singer’s Response Will Leave You Speechless
Image
John Lennon, a founding member of The Beatles, was not only a musical icon but also a symbol of peace and counterculture in the 20th century. After the group disbanded, he continued to make waves with his solo career, producing timeless hits like Imagine and Give Peace a Chance. Tragically, his life was cut short on December 8, 1980, when he was shot outside his apartment building, The Dakota, in New York City.

Now, almost 5 decades since his tragic death, his wife, Yoko Ono, has revealed that she had warned her husband about his dreaded end. However, Lennon’s response to her worries was rather nonchalant.

John Lennon brushed off Yoko Ono’s warning about his death

Ever since 1966, John Lennon and Yoko Ono shared one of the most iconic and controversial relationships in music history.

Steven Soderbergh Shopping Documentary On Final Interview Of John Lennon
Image
Exclusive: Steven Soderbergh is out to the town with an untitled feature doc, centered on the final interview of John Lennon, multiple sources tell Deadline.

This is the first doc in many years for Soderbergh, who released And Everything Is Going Fine — on the life of multi-hyphenate artist Spalding Gray — through Sundance Selects in 2010. We’re told Soderbergh is in production now, and the search for a distributor is on, with the film to be completed by end of year.

EPs on the project include Soderbergh, Michael Sugar and David Hillman of Sugar23, and Nancy Saslow and David Hudson of Mishpookah Entertainment Group.

Lennon’s final in-depth interview took place alongside wife and creative collaborator Yoko Ono on the fateful day of December 8, 1980 — the only radio interview granted around the release of their album, Double Fantasy. That afternoon, the pair met a team of three from Rko Radio at their Dakota apartment.

When Jared Leto’s Extreme Weight Gain For ‘Chapter 27’ Left Him Suffering Gout: ‘I Had A Wheelchair… It Was So Painful’
Image
Jared Leto’s Painful Transformation (Photo Credit – Facebook)

Jared Leto took method acting to a painful extreme when he gained 67 pounds for the 2007 indie film Chapter 27. The transformation was so drastic that it left him suffering from gout.

“Towards the end of the shoot, one of the glaring issues was the pain I had with my feet,” he admitted in an interview with the LA times. “I had a wheelchair because it was so painful. My body was in shock from the amount of weight I gained. It took about a year to get back to a place that felt semi-normal. I don’t know if I’ll ever be back to the place I was physically.”

Leto had undergone extreme weight loss for Requiem for a Dream and Dallas Buyers Club, but Chapter 27 pushed his body in the opposite direction. He packed on the pounds to portray Mark David Chapman,...

Actors Who Were Almost Cast As Star Trek's Data Before Brent Spiner
Image
Before securing the role of Data on "Star Trek: The Next Generation," actor Brent Spiner was perhaps most widely recognized for his recurring role as Bob Wheeler on the sitcom "Night Court." He also had one-shot appearances on various other hit TV shows like "Tales from the Darkside," "The Paper Chase," and "Ryan's Hope." He also had a bit part in the excellent cult musical "Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains" and was one of the background students in "Grease 2." Spiner had been acting in Broadway productions throughout the 1970s.

Data was a boon to his career, making him a household name, and giving him a role that he would continue to revisit for decades. Spiner has always felt ambivalent about Data, however, loving the fame, but resenting how he had been typecast. He has since referred to Data as a double-edged sword. That said, his post-"Star Trek...

When Jared Leto Gained 67 Pounds For A Role & Paid The Price With Serious Health Struggles: “It’s a tough, bad thing to do to your health.”
Image
Jared Leto weight transformation, health struggles, extreme commitment, method acting, Hollywood actor ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Jared Leto didn’t just act in Chapter 27—he morphed into Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon, by gaining 67 pounds in what could only be described as a health nightmare. That’s not transformation; it’s borderline body horror. Leto didn’t sugarcoat it, saying it’s “a tough, bad thing to do to your health.” And for what? Art? Commitment? Madness? You decide.

But wait, Leto didn’t stop at gaining weight. For Dallas Buyers Club (2013), he shed about 30 pounds to play Rayon, a frail, drug-addicted hustler. He practically disappeared on screen, skin, and bones to bring Rayon’s vulnerability to life. It was a grim, committed commitment. Jared Leto isn’t just committed; he’s dangerously committed.

Then came Morbius, where Leto went for both extremes. First, he slimmed down...

10 Actors Who Dangerously Adjusted Their Weight For A Movie
Image
Some actors choose to make drastic changes when they're cast in a movie. For authenticity, they either lose or put on the same amount of weight that the character has. It helps them really get inside the mind of the character by getting inside their body.

However, some actors arguably take it too far. Adjusting weight too quickly can be dangerous, after all. While these actors won praise for how far they went, there was also the question hanging in the air of "Did they really have to do that?" It's certainly not something just anybody should try.

Anne Hathaway Now Warns Against Her Les Miserables Weight Loss

Anne Hathaway played Fantine in the 2012 musical Les Miserables. Fantine becomes poor, sells herself into prostitution, gets sicker and sicker on the streets, and eventually dies. Hathaway dropped 25 pounds to play the role and won Best Supporting Actress in 2013, but she grew to regret it.

30 music legends tragic deaths; remembering Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Selena and more
Image
Music is a powerful force that connects members of a generation, and when an icon of that generation passes away, the loss is felt among the masses; it is especially shocking when that larger-than-life celebrity dies suddenly and at a young age. Sadly, we have lost several musical artists much too soon, often due to the pressure, exposure or commitments that come with fame. Tour our photo gallery remembering 30 music legends and the details around their tragic deaths.

I was only nine years old when John Lennon died, and over 40 years later, I remember sitting at the kitchen table hearing the report on the radio that crazed fan Mark David Chapman had shot the legendary singer to death. This was one of the most shocking events in rock and roll history; fans were devastated, with a least three committing suicide. Chapman pleaded guilty and remains incarcerated. Just 15 years later, promising...

‘McVeigh’ Review: A Drama About the Oklahoma City Bomber Has Low-Key Sociopathic Atmosphere to Spare
Image
“McVeigh,” a drama about Timothy McVeigh and the 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, is a movie rooted in the forlorn underbelly of small-town American rage.

A car snakes its way along an empty road in the desolate dusk. Men nursing cheap beers sit around in roadside bars, strips clubs, or living rooms with ugly wood paneling. And Tim (Alfie Allen), an impassive loner whose scraggly beard is an outgrowth of his not bothering to shave, sits behind his table at a gun show, hawking $2 bumper stickers that say “When guns are outlawed, I will become an outlaw.” At home, he points a weapon at the TV set, like Travis Bickle, miming the execution of the U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno as she testifies at hearings about the FBI siege of the Branch Davidian compound at Waco. Tim also travels to an Arkansas prison...

15 Movies That Nailed Historical Accuracy
Image
Some historically accurate movies can be more engaging than fiction, showing that fact can be just as compelling as storytelling. Films like "Chapter 27," "Downfall," and "Schindler's List" strive for accuracy, providing detailed depictions of historical events and figures. Other films, like Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln," focus on one key aspect. There, it's about President Abraham Lincoln's administration, showcasing the political intrigue and deals made to abolish slavery.

While total accuracy in a narrative movie should never be expected, the most historically accurate movies show that sometimes fact can be more engaging than fiction. While movies like Ridley Scott's Napoleon fuel the debate about how much a movie based on a true story needs to adhere to the facts, there are some movies that have managed to depict the actual events in an honest way while still creating a cinematic representation of the story.

Some of the most beloved...

When John Lennon’s Disturbing Clip Ridiculing & Mocking Disabled People Shocked The Beatles Fans!
Image
When John Lennon’s Disturbing Clip Mocking Disabled People Shocked Netizens!(Photo Credit –Instagram)

The cultural impact of The Beatles, including their contribution to Western pop culture, will always remain unparalleled. Pioneers in the development of genre-bending music, The Beatles’ songs back in the 1960s became the soundtrack for political, social, and cultural upheaval. Additionally, their brilliant business strategies established them as the best-selling artists of all time, adding to their wide-ranging appeal and enduring popularity.

Despite attaining this godlike status internationally, The Beatles, comprising John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, on numerous occasions, fumbled through spaces like normal human beings. Their lives, though celebrated in the greatest capacity, have also been deeply mired in controversies.

Lead Vocalist John Lennon, who was killed by obsessed fan Mark David Chapman on December 8, 1980, was once accused of ridiculing disabled people during a performance. A UK TV show, It Was Alright in the ’60s,...

The Murder of John Lennon Haunts the Week's Best Trailers
Image
Is good TV worth waiting for? That's what the producers behind some of the shows featured in this week's biggest trailers are banking on. Peacock's Dr. Death premiered over two years ago, and we're finally getting a second season, with a new story and some hot new stars to boot. But when it comes to the week's best trailer, that's a story people have been waiting even longer to hear.

The 1980 murder of John Lennon — shot to death by assassin Mark David Chapman in front of his New York City apartment building — was a crushing blow to the culture. For everything that the Beatles meant to pop music and that Lennon meant to the counterculture and anti-war movement, to have it end so violently and suddenly makes this one of the most infamous killings of the 20th century.

‘John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial Interrogates Killer Mark David Chapman’s Motives — Watch the Trailer
Image
The elusive motives behind Mark David Chapman fatally shooting John Lennon are now finally being explained in a boundary-breaking Apple TV+ docuseries.

“John Lennon: Murder Without a Trial” interrogates why Chapman, a photographer from Hawaii, set out to murder Beatle Lennon. Interviews with Chapman’s defense lawyer David Suggs and Dr Naomi Goldstein, the psychiatrist who first assessed Chapman, give new insights into his state of mind at the time of the 1980 killing. A witness to Lennon’s murder, taxi driver Richard Peterson, and Jay Hastings, a doorman at The Dakota who heard Lennon’s last words before he was shot outside of the infamous building, also speculate what compelled Chapman to kill.

Lennon and wife Yoko Ono’s shared confidante Elliot Mintz is further interviewed as the docuseries questions whether Chapman had religious motives or was part of a larger conspiracy to kill celebrities.

Per the series tagline, “Murder Without a Trial...

“Murder Without a Trial” is being touted as the “most thoroughly researched examination” of Lennon’s 1980 murder, as it was granted extensive access to the New York City Police Department, the Board of Parole and the District Attorney’s Office through Freedom of Information Act requests. In addition to exclusive interviews with those closest to Lennon at the time of his murder, the series also takes a close look at the motivations of his killer through conversations with Chapman’s defense lawyers,...

What Happened To Lindsay Lohan After Mean Girls
Image
Lindsay Lohan's career and personal life underwent a series of volatile shifts after she starred in Mean Girls. The former child star began acting in 1992 at the age of 7 with two guest appearances on the popular kid's show Sesame Street. Lohan got her big break from Disney's 1998 remake of The Parent Trap which marked her feature film debut. Lohan went on to star in a number of culturally-influential Disney movies such as Get A Clue, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, and Freaky Friday before playing protagonist Cady Heron in Mean Girls.

Mean Girls is considered one of Lohan's most defining roles of her acting career. The teen comedy movie became a cultural phenomenon in the early 2000s and instantly became a cult classic. Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters, was based on an original screenplay written by Rosalind Wiseman and iconic former Saturday Night Live cast member Tina Fey.

Broken Ribs, Exploded Discs and Gunshot Wounds: Actors on How Much They’ve Suffered for the Craft
Image
Fame is far from the only occupational hazard in Hollywood.

Lately, it seems there’s a new headline every week detailing the varying degrees actors have suffered for the craft — everything from the psychological torture of getting in character to broken limbs or back injuries while filming and even the mental gymnastics required to decompress from a difficult role. Or, simply fainting while watching another actor suffer.

After the first public showing in New York of A24’s Beau Is Afraid, auteur Ari Aster admitted during a Q&a that Joaquin Phoenix passed out during a scene in which his title character was not in front of cameras but rather just present to help co-star Patti LuPone through her own intense scene. “All of a sudden, he fell out of frame,” Aster recalled. “I knew it was bad because he was letting people touch him and people were tending to him.

John Lenon's widow Yoko Ono gives up NYC for quiet life on farm
Image
Los Angeles, Feb 26 (Ians) Yoko Ono is rumoured to have secretly quit New York city to live on a farm, 42 years after she watched her husband John Lennon get shot to death outside their home in the city.

Spending decades traumatised by the loss of her Beatles icon partner, the singer and artist, who last week celebrated her 90th birthday, stayed in their nine-room apartment in Manhattan’s exclusive Dakota Building, where gunman Mark David Chapman assassinated him on December 8, 1980, reports aceshowbiz.com.

However, now Yoko has decided to relocate full-time to her 600-acre farm near Franklin, New York, according to Dailymail.com. She is “not thought to have any plans to return” to her home in the Dakota, on the Upper West Side, the outlet said.

It said there is no suggestion Yoko plans to sell the Manhattan apartment, but said the move was a “major change” for John...

Why There's No Catcher In The Rye Movie
Image
The Catcher In The Rye is one of the most popular American books of all time, but there has yet to be a movie adaptation. The book follows Holden Caulfield - a teenager who finds himself wandering aimlessly across the streets of New York after getting expelled from school. While the book didn't win any major prizes, it did bring Salinger into the spotlight, giving rise to topics, such as the protection of innocence in times when the shadow of war still hung nearby. However, that doesn't mean there haven't been any controversies surrounding it.

Although The Catcher In The Rye is a modern classic, it hasn't been warmly received by some members of the public. In schools, it has been banned because of concerns surrounding the obscene content and language (via Time). In 1980, the book was then surrounded by controversy once again after Mark David Chapman, John Lennon's killer,...

Darren Aronofsky at an event for Golden Globe Awards (2009)
Don’t blame Brendan Fraser for The Whale’s crass fatphobia
Darren Aronofsky at an event for Golden Globe Awards (2009)
Maybe The Whale was doomed from the start. Darren Aronofsky’s mawkish Oscar-bait drama – starring Brendan Fraser as a morbidly obese man reeling from the death of his partner – seemed to break all the rules of contemporary good taste. And not deliberately. For the role, Fraser gained a significant amount of weight, and augmented this with prosthetics; The Whale is built entirely around his startling physical transformation. His character, however, is presented as an object of great pity, a viewpoint the film seems to find profound. Accusations of fatphobia have been rampant. (Eloise Hendy neatly explains the backlash in this piece about Hollywood’s problematic fat suit resurgence.) Critically speaking, The Whale has endured a pretty rigorous harpooning.

Yet while The Whale’s Best Picture hopes may have been beached by its polarised reception, Fraser’s own reputation has emerged from the film unscathed – and arguably even bolstered. The Mummy...

John Lennon's ex-pa defends supplying him with heroin
Image
Late musician John Lennon’s former personal assistant was astounded by how quickly The Beatles icon kicked his heroin habit.

Living and working with John and the singer’s wife Yoko Ono as their Pa from 1969 to 1973, actor and mime artist Dan Richter, 83, supplied the couple with the class-a drug in the late 1960s because he didn’t want them scoring drugs on the street, reports aceshowbiz.com.

“I didn’t want them to be using. But I really didn’t want them to be using street heroin, killing themselves. There was a myth that drugs were a key to creativity. Which they might and might not be.

“People thought Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker were better artists because of drugs. Now I don’t think so,” he told The Daily Telegraph in an interview on Wednesday from his home in Sierra Nevada, Spain.

John and Yoko had started using...

Paul McCartney shares what was his state of mind after John Lennon's demise
Image
The Beatles singer Paul McCartney, who shared vocal duties with band member John Lennon, has revealed why he ‘couldn’t talk’ about John Lennon after his tragic death in 1980. McCartney, 80, opened up about how he got home from the studio after Lennon’s murder and turned on the TV to see people reflecting on his friend’s impact – but it was ‘too difficult’ for him to do the same, reports New York Post.

The musician revealed that the sudden loss of Lennon “hit me so much that I couldn’t really talk about it,” he said in a new interview with Sirius Xm’s The Beatles Channel about the making of his 1982 solo album ‘Tug of War’.

“I remember getting home from the studio on the day that we’d heard the news he died. Turning the TV on and seeing people say, ‘Well, John Lennon was this,’ and, ‘What he was,...

Paul McCartney says he couldn’t face speaking publicly about John Lennon in aftermath of his death
Image
Paul McCartney has revealed that he “couldn’t really talk” about John Lennon’s death after it happened.

McCartney’s fellow Beatle was shot dead in New York in 1980, leaving behind wife Yoko Ono and sons Sean and Julian.

Now, forty years later, McCartney has opened up about the time immediately after the musician’s death and what led him to writing his song “Here Today”.

While being interviewed on the The Beatles Channel on SirusXM, the 80-year-old songwriter told of his grief and shock in the immediate aftermath of the news.

“When John died it was so difficult,” said McCartney. “It had hit me so much so, that I couldn’t really talk about it. I remember getting home from the studio on the day that we’d heard the news he died.

“Turning the TV on and seeing people say, ‘Well, John Lennon was this,’ and ‘What he was,...

Julian Lennon on ‘weird’ John Lennon scene that ruined Yesterday for him: ‘It wasn’t necessary’
Julian Lennon
Julian Lennon has admitted that Richard Curtis’s film Yesterday was ruined for him by an “weird” scene involving his late father John Lennon.

Himesh Patel and Lily James starred in the 2019 romantic comedy about a musician who wakes up one day to find that nobody remembers The Beatles and decides to pass their music off as his own.

While none of the Beatles were involved in the film, they and their families gave their approval for it to go ahead, while the filmmakers spent 10m (£8.1m) on the rights to the band’s music.

However, one scene that divided fans – once referred to as a “Marmite scene” by director Danny Boyle – sees Jack (Patel) take a road trip, when he runs into John Lennon (Robert Carlyle) at a remote English countryside home.

Having chosen love over fame and fortune and with The Beatles never having existed, John has lived...

QAnon Followers Are Arguing if the Beatles Were Involved in Witchcraft and Child Sacrifice
Image
As the biggest rock band of the 20th century, the Beatles were naturally also the subject of an infamous conspiracy theory. According to urban legend, Paul McCartney died in 1966 and was replaced by an imposter, with his surviving bandmates leaving cryptic clues to the coverup in their music and album art.

Decades later, a far-right fringe movement would make this kind of outlandish claim as a matter of course. QAnon followers, who started out as Trump loyalists believing that he was engaged in a secret war with the “deep state...

John Lennon’s Murderer, Mark David Chapman, Says He Killed The Musician For ‘Fame’
Image
Mark David Chapman, the man who shot John Lennon in New York in 1980, was denied parole for the 12th time this August.

A transcript of his remarks to the New York parole boarId was recently released, and at one point he discussed that he killed the musician for fame and also said he had “evil in my heart.”

“I knew what I was doing, and I knew it was evil, I knew it was wrong, but I wanted the fame so much that I was willing to give everything and take a human life,” Chapman explained. He has been serving a 20-years-to-life sentence at a prison in New York’s Hudson Valley and is 67 years old.

“I wanted to be somebody and nothing was going to stop that,” Chapman reportedly added. “I hurt a lot of people all over the place and if someone wants to hate me, that’s ok,...

John Lennon’s Killer, Mark David Chapman, Says He Knew Murder Was ‘Evil…But I Wanted the Fame So Much’
Image
John Lennon’s killer Mark David Chapman was recently denied parole for the 12th time since first becoming eligible in 2000 — 20 years after he gunned down the former Beatle outside of his Upper West Side apartment. And recently unsealed transcripts from the latest parole hearing, where he admitted that there was “evil in my heart,” shows he really hasn’t made a convincing case for himself as to why he should be free.

“I am not going to blame anything else or anybody else for bringing me there,” Chapman told the...

Ryan Murphy at an event for Eat Pray Love (2010)
Is The Watcher Season 2 The Next American Horror Story?
Ryan Murphy at an event for Eat Pray Love (2010)
Flash back with me, if you will, to December 2011.

The first season of FX’s American Horror Story had just aired its 12th and final episode and it was a shockingly conclusive one. The following day, creator Ryan Murphy hopped on the phone with the press to reveal that the story presented in the first season of the show (retroactively dubbed American Horror Story: Murder House) was definitively over and future seasons of the show would feature new characters, new locations, and new plot lines. In short, American Horror Story was a surprise anthology series, something that Murphy and fellow co-creator Brad Falchuk had planned from the start.

Some 11 years later, the decision to turn American Horror Story into an anthology does not seem that radical. In the streaming era, many shows opt to continue on as anthologies after wrapping up a story to their satisfaction in season 1. Some recent examples include The Terror,...

Children Of Men Is The Closest We'll Get To Michael Caine Playing John Lennon
Image
Alfonso Cuarón's "Children of Men" was poorly marketed and almost too dystopian for audiences when it first debuted in theaters in 2006. Based on the 1992 novel by P.D. James, the world of "Men" is slowly crumbling and turning to chaos because of a mysterious affliction causing the act of child birth to become obsolete. Women can no longer conceive. Knowing that the human civilization now has a finite amount of time blankets the world, specifically London in the year 2021 (!), in a deep malaise and cultural depression.

In the first scene of Cuarón's near masterpiece, the youngest person in the world, who has become a mega-celebrity, is suddenly killed. Hearing the news, most people begin to mourn in much the same way they did when John Lennon passed away in 1980. The ghost of Lennon and his legacy as a political activist is channeled by Michael Caine's laid back character Jasper Palmer...

‘We’re going to change the world together’: Julian Lennon releases climate crisis song ‘Change’
Image
Julian Lennon has released a new climate emergency-themed single in partnership with forest conservation marketing organisation Everland.

The single, titled “Change”, was commissioned by the company to raise awareness for the immediate need to act for the climate.

In the song, the Grammy-nominated son of John Lennon sings: “So gather up our courage for the road lies ahead / if we don’t do this together, we’ll surely end up dead”

He continues: “And we’ll put the past behind us, clean the air and clean the sea / feed the world with human kindness / love will set us free.”

The chorus then comes in: “We’re going to change the world together, you and I and everyone forever.”

The song aligns with the work of Lennon’s nonprofit, The White Feather Foundation, which aims to support conservation and Indigenous cultures.

This isn’t the first time Lennon has touched on...

Chapman’s latest parole hearing took place at the end of August, though no transcripts from the board interview have been made available yet. Mark David Chapman: John Lennon’s killer denied parole for 12th time
Image
Mark David Chapman, the man responsible for shooting and killing John Lennon outside his Manhattan apartment, has been denied parole for the 12th time, New York corrections officials said.

Chapman, 67, went before a parole board at the end of August, the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said, according to NBC News.

The transcript from the 12th occasion where the killer of the famed Beatle went before the board has not been publicly available, but in previous hearings the 67-year-old had expressed remorse at what he carried out on 8 December 1980.

During his previous hearing in 2020, he described his actions on that day more than 40 years ago as “despicable” and told the board that he would have “no complaint whatsoever” if they opted to keep him behind bars for the rest of his life.

“I was too far in,” he said during an earlier parole board hearing in 2018. “I do remember having the thought of,...
