This Glenn Howerton Series Is Perfect For Fans Of The Abbott Elementary/It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia Crossover
Image
Despite being two very different kinds of comedies, the hit Philadelphia-set sitcoms "Abbott Elementary" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" managed a pair of hilarious crossover episodes that showed the comedic flexibility of the people who made them. The extremely dark and rather adult "Always Sunny" humor somehow managed to mix brilliantly with the more sentimental and family friendly "Abbott," creating a mix that felt like nothing else on television ... almost.

For those seeking an acerbic but surprisingly sweet sitcom series set in a school that has elements of both "Abbott Elementary" and "It's Always Sunny," look no further than "A.P. Bio," created by former "Saturday Night Live" writer Mike O'Brien. "A.P. Bio" began its run on NBC before being canceled and then uncanceled and moved to Peacock, where it was unfortunately canceled a second time, ending with season 4, but it's still a satisfying watch despite its loose ends.

‘Howdy, Neighbor!’ – Screenlife Horror Movie Coming Soon
Image
The “Screenlife” movie has become a bona fide subgenre here in the horror world, with films including Searching, Missing, and Unfriended paving the way for other movies that uniquely play out their stories entirely on computer screens. Timur Bekmambetov is the producer of all of the above, and he’s launched a new initiative to foster new talents in the screenlife space.

Deadline reports this week that Bekmambetov has created the Black List-style “Screenlifer” platform, which will “identify, support, and promote screenlife content from emerging filmmakers, and give it exposure to both audiences and industry professionals.”

“Projects that meet the platform’s standards will receive a Black List-style mark of distinction, signifying their alumni status, which Bekmambetov believes will enhance their industry credibility,” Deadline adds. “The best concepts will be published on the project’s website.”

One of the first projects that’s been given the Screenlife seal of approval...

Timur Bekmambetov Launches The Black List-Style Platform Screenlifer With ‘Howdy, Neighbor!’ & ‘Crtl’
Image
Exclusive: L.A.-based screenlife movie pioneer Timur Bekmambetov is launching a new platform supporting projects using the format in which all the action takes place on a computer, tablet or smartphone screen.

Bannered Screenlifer, the initiative is modeled on the successful The Black List, which has helped bring some 450 unproduced screenplays to the big screen since its creation in 2005.

Russian-Kazakh director Bekmambetov, who is currently in post-production on his new movie Mercy with Chris Pratt and Rebecca Ferguson for Amazon MGM Studios, put the screenlife format on the cinematic map with hits including Unfriended, Searching, and Missing.

His ambition for the new Screenlifer platform is to scale screenlife film production globally. The new ecosystem will identify, support, and promoting screenlife content from emerging filmmakers, and give it exposure to both audiences and industry professionals.

Projects that meet the platform’s standards will receive a The Black List-style mark of distinction,...

Aaron Morgan
"You hide, I seek." This is creepyy!! A new horror short film made by filmmakers Aaron Morgan and Eric Vespe (formerly known as "Quint" from his AICN days) is now online. Seek was supposed to premiere last year at the 2020 SXSW Film Festival, eventually playing at this year's Fantastic Fest. After driving all night, two sisters come across a dilapidated roadside park. It reveals itself to be more than meets the eye when one sister stumbles upon a mischievous resident inhabiting the bathroom that wants to play a sinister game... Who's hiding out in there? The film stars Allisyn Snyder, Clare Grant, and Steve Agee; with practical effects by two-time Academy Award-nominee Arjen Tuiten, based on concept designs by Weta Workshop. And there's a poster by artist Jc Richard as well. Nothing like a good horror short to make your heart rate go up. This makes me never want to...

A.P. Bio Season 3 Preview

A.P. Bio star Glenn Howerton wants to make one thing very clear about the show’s move from NBC to Peacock: it wasn’t canceled… or at least not canceled in the traditional sense of the term.

“This has always been misrepresented a little bit,” Howerton says. “The show did Ok on NBC but not great. And certainly not good enough for them to pick it up. But it was always my understanding that the show kind of crushed it on Hulu. Then Hulu wasn’t doing work with NBC Universal anymore. So we had this large streaming audience but nowhere to put the show. Then when Peacock decided to do Peacock Originals, they picked us up really quickly.”

Through two seasons, A.P. Bio was always indeed a streaming-friendly show. The darkly funny series follows disgraced Harvard professor...

A.P. Bio Season 3 Debuts Creative New Posters
Patton Oswalt and Glenn Howerton in A.P. Bio (2018)
Thanks to the magic of streaming entertainment, A.P. Bio got a second lease on life.

After spending two funny, yet ratings challenged years on NBC, the sitcom was canceled. Then Comcast announced the creation of an all-encompassing NBCUniversal streaming service called Peacock. And that colorful bird was hungry for content, leading to the renewal of A.P. Bio for a third season.

Now A.P. Bio season 3 is set to premiere its eight episodes on Peacock on Sept. 3. And what better way to celebrate A.P. Bio’s impending return than to gather together all of its characters’ disembodied heads? Don’t worry – it’s not as gruesome as it sounds. Peacock has exclusively provided Den of Geek with four colorful posters from A.P. Bio’s third season featuring the characters as pencil toppers. "A.P. Bio" Fans Light Up Twtiter In Effort To Save Canceled NBC Series
Patton Oswalt and Glenn Howerton in A.P. Bio (2018)
One day after A.P. Bio Creator-Executive Producer Mike O’Brien broke the news that the sophomore sitcom had been canceled, fans have taken to social media in an effort to bring it back.

The hashtag #SaveAPBio trended throughout the day Saturday on Twitter. Among the comments, viewers said they were “crushed” and the show “will be missed.”

“Maybe networks should let good quality shows grow for more than 2 seasons before axing it,” one person tweeted.

Another urged Netflix to pick up the series, writing: “C’mon Netflix!!!!!”

Someone else added: “Such an incredible cast and the show was just hitting its stride. There’s still so much potential!”

Written by SNL alum O’Brien, the high school comedy stars Glenn Howerton as disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar Jack Griffin. After losing out on his dream job, Griffin is forced to return to Toledo,...

‘A.P. Bio’ Canceled By NBC After 2 Seasons
There will be no third season for NBC comedy series A.P. Bio, executive produced by Seth Meyers. Creator/exec producer Mike O’Brien revealed the news on Twitter.

“I’m intensely sad to announce that AP Bio will be ending after this season,” he wrote Friday “This has been my favorite project of my life and that’s because of the amazing writers, cast and crew. As most canceled shows probably feel, I think we were just hitting our stride and everyone was still loving the work, so this is very hard. We have 4 left to air and they’re 4 of my favorites.”

A.P. Bio was among several NBC midseason bubble series whose fate was not decided before the upfronts, along with freshmen Abby’s, The Enemy Within and The Village. Neither is expected to return next season.

The high school comedy starring Glenn Howerton was relatively well-received by critics,...

“A.P. Bio” has been canceled at NBC.

Series creator Mike O’Brien shared the news with fans on Twitter, writing that “This has been the favorite project of my life.”

In the single-camera comedy, Glenn Howerton portrayed a disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar who lost out on his dream job and was forced to return to Toledo, Ohio, to work as a high school biology teacher. There, he decided to use his students for his own benefit but found himself gradually more entangled with the other staff, especially the principal (played by Patton Oswalt).

‘A.P. Bio’ Review: Season 2 Continues to Put the Awful in Awfully Funny
Patton Oswalt and Glenn Howerton in A.P. Bio (2018)
It’s time to start shutting up again. In its second season, “A.P. Bio” gives reprobate high school teacher Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton) an even more morally bankrupt reason to be awful, and by extension, awfully funny. Having set the curriculum for gleefully selfish schemes in Season 1, the NBC comedy from former “SNL” writer Mike O’Brien updates the syllabus to broaden the scope of Jack’s pomposity and ploys in the show’s sophomore outing.

The disgraced Harvard philosophy scholar who had lost his dream job to an academic rival is now stuck teaching advanced placement biology in his hometown of Toledo. Instead of teaching his class, Jack mined their brilliance to carry out a personal vendetta in Season 1, and this year, their exploitation continues.

‘A.P. Bio’ Renewed For Season 2 By NBC
NBC has ordered a second season of its new midseason comedy series A.P.Bio, executive produced by Seth Meyers.

A.P. Bio was a big priority for NBC this midseason. The single-camera comedy got a major push with two special previews, including one after the Closing Ceremony of the PyeongChang Olympics. The series also got a digital promotional run ahead of its official premiere, which netted respectable sampling.

The high school comedy starring Glenn Howerton has not been a breakout. A.P. Bio is averaging a modest 1.2 rating in 18-49 and 3.7 million viewers overall in L+7 . But comedies are usually slow at the start and need time to grow. Plus, A.P. Bio has been relatively well received by critics, and it has been attracting highly educated audiences — the series indexes at a 149 among adults 18-49 with four or more years of college to rank #3 among primetime series on the Big 4 networks.

‘AP Bio’ Renewed, Comedies Produced by Michael Schur, Amy Poehler Get Series Orders From NBC
“A.P. Bio” — and two new shows — just made the grade at NBC.

The Glenn Howerton-led series has been picked up for a Season 2 by the Peacock, which is also granting series orders to a pair of comedy pilots from executive producers (and network faves) Michael Schur and Amy Poehler.

Hailing from “The Good Place” producers Schur and David Miner and led by star Natalie Morales, NBC describes “Abby’s” as a hilariously aspirational new comedy about the best bar in San Diego, home to good prices, great company and, of course, Abby. This unlicensed, makeshift bar nestled in her backyard as the opposite of everything annoying about today’s party scene. There are rules at Abby’s: no cell phones (not even to “look something up”), earning a seat at the bar takes time and losing a challenge means drinking a limey, sugary “not-beer” drink. As the oddball cast of regulars will tell you, hanging out at Abby’s is a coveted honor. But once you’re in, you’re family.

Along with lead Morales, the cast includes Nelson Franklin, Kimia Behpoornia, Jessica Chaffin, Leonard Ouzts and Neil Flynn.

Schur and Miner are executive produce along with Josh Malmuth, who penned the script for the multi-cam (shot outside in front of a live audience). Pamela Fryman is directing and also executive producing the pilot. “Abby’s” comes from Universal Television, Fremulon and 3 Arts Entertainment.

The Poheler-produced project, “I Feel Bad,” centers around Emet (Sarayu Blue), the perfect mom, boss, wife, friend and daughter. Ok, according to the logline, she’s not perfect. In fact, she’s just figuring it out like the rest of us. Sure, she feels bad when she has a sexy dream about someone other than her husband, or when she pretends not to know her kids when they misbehave in public, or when she uses her staff to help solve personal problems. But that’s Ok, right? Nobody can have it all and do it perfectly. From executive producer Amy Poehler comes a modern comedy about being perfectly Ok with being imperfect.

Other cast members include Paul Adelstein, Aisling Bea, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton and James Buckley.

Aseem Batra will write and executive produce the comedy, with Julie Anne Robinson directing and executive producing the pilot. Poehler, Dave Becky and Josh Maurer also executive produce. The series hails from Universal Television, Paper Kite Productions, CannyLads Productions and 3 Arts Entertainment.

As for newly-renewed “A.P. Bio,” its first season averaged a 1.2 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic and 3.7 million total viewers in live-plus-seven-days of delayed viewing data from Nielsen.

‘A.P. Bio’: In Defense of a Smart, Surprising Freshman Run That Deserves to See Its Sophomore Year
Patton Oswalt and Glenn Howerton in A.P. Bio (2018)
[Editor’s Note: The following article contains spoilers for “A.P. Bio” Season 1 up to, but not including, the finale.]

There’s a scene in “A.P. Bio,” NBC’s delightful freshman sitcom, that’s as pivotal to the series’ improbable success as it is easy to overlook entirely. In Episode 11, “Eight Pigs and a Rat,” Jack (Glenn Howerton) is forced into doing the one thing he’s refused to do: teach biology. With the principal and superintendent visiting his class and a student who wants him fired pressing Jack to perform, the former Harvard professor has to lead a pig dissection in front of the entire class. The problem? Jack taught philosophy in the Ivy Leagues, not bio.

At first, he brings up Heather (Allisyn Ashley Arm), who works at a butcher shop with her dad, as a student assistant to do the job for him. But when Sarika (Aparna Brielle) tries to expose Jack by asking for an explanation in “standard scientific biological terms,” he hesitates. He’s in trouble — or so it seems.

‘Aimy in a Cage’ Review
Stars: Crispin Glover, Allisyn Ashley Arm, Terry Moore, Paz de la Huerta, Michael William Hunter, Theodore Bouloukos, Sara Murphy, Gabby Tary, Rick Montgomery Jr., Charles Everett Tacker, Maria Deasy | Written and Directed by Hooroo Jackson

I like weird films, and because of this fact I tend to experience some truly strange and unique movies. Aimy in a Cage may be a step too far into the “weird” for some, but if you are a fan of the likes of A Clockwork Orange it may just push the right buttons for you.

Aimy Micry (Allisyn Ashley Arm) is a free spirited artistic girl who lives with her grandma (Terry Moore) who hates her. Seemingly out of control, her Grandmother and the rest of her family and friends use different methods to try and control Aimy, while an oncoming plague threatens to kill them all.

Aimy in a Cage is a film...

Aimy in a Cage will Blow Your Mind in this Preview
It is time for a dip into the surreal. Hooroo Jackson's fantasy and horror film Aimy in a Cage is moving towards a 2016 release date. The film involves several characters living behind strong walls as a virus rages outside. A strange surgery is performed on the inhabitants, to prevent them from acting out. As well, Aimy in a Cage stars Crispin Glover (Simon Says), Allisyn Ashley Arm, Terry Moore and Paz de la Huerta. A preview of the film's launch, through Osiris Entertainment, is hosted here. Film fans will notice a surreal element in the film's latest trailer. The clip shows characters in period costumes, acting in a bizarre fashion. Settings and costumes change in lighting and time periods. Meanwhile, the music has a carnival-like tone. The film's story takes place in an offbeat world. Here, the protagonist's mind is altered and so is the viewer's. Aimy in a Cage was funded through Bitcoin.

Exclusive Stills and More! Filmmaker Peter Dukes Talks Little Reaper
It’s no secret that we here at Dread Central are stalwart supporters of indie filmmakers so it’s a pleasure to bring you a first look at Peter Dukes’ engaging horror-comedy short Little Reaper as well as some exclusive stills, a poster, and word on his next project.

Written, directed and produced by Dukes, the film, a project by Dream Seekers Productions, stars Athena Baumeister in the titular role as the Grim Reaper’s (actor John Paul Ouvrier) teenage daughter, who when tasked with handling her patriarch’s daily duties, comes up rather short and with some rather amusing results. Actors John Michael Herndon, Katharine Stapleton, Allisyn Ashley Arm (of Disney channel fame), Katy Townsend and Sorsha Morava round out the cast.

“Death is a common theme in my work,” said Dukes of Little Reaper, which he funded with additional financing from Little Reaper executive producer Danny Derakhshan and associate producers Melissa Cottingham,...

You know what they say… The show must go on! And now it will. Disney’s Sonny with a Chance is losing 18 year old actress Demi Lovato, post rehab, because the star has decided to focus on her musical career. That story broke in April. It was followed by rumors of a new album and tour for Lovato this year. Her Disney cast mates are not out of work, however, as we learned from EW by way of DigitalSpy.

A Sonny with a Chance spin-off is now in the works called So Random!

Here’s the 411:

[So Random!] will emphasize the comedy sketch aspect of the show. The title was previously the name of a show within the show in which the cast of Sonny with a Chance put on ridiculous costumes and act out nonsensical situations.

I would not go so far as to call So Random! a variety show,...
