Variety won 16 first-place awards at the SoCal Journalism Awards Sunday night, more than any other entertainment outlet. The haul doubled Variety‘s tally of eight from last year, and set a new high mark for the publication at the awards, besting the previous peak of 14 achieved in 2023.

Among the wins were a top trophy for Variety.com as best website, and an honor for Chris Willman for entertainment journalist of the year.

The Los Angeles Press Club presented the awards at a sold-out banquet at the Millennium Biltmore attended by more than 550 journalists. The 2025 ceremony awarded work published during the 2024 calendar year. Variety went into the event with 93 nominations in 56 categories.

The late actress Jayne Mansfield became a regular at the Cannes Film Festival in the 1950s and ‘60s, sometimes photographed on the Croisette with her husband, Mickey Hargitay, and on at least one occasion accompanied by her pet pooch.

With season 27 on the way after a recent renewal, Law and Order Svu is set to see a lot of big changes. Based on the journeys of detectives of the Special Victims Unit, the crime drama, which premiered in September 1999, stars names like Mariska Hargitay, Ice T, Peter Scanavino, and Kevin Kane.

But the hit show has seen a lot of casting changes over the decades and it seems like season 27 will be featuring plenty of those changes again with characters deaths and actor exits. Saturday Night Live’s milestone 50th season came to a rather abrupt end.

At the conclusion of Saturday’s SNL season finale, Scarlett Johansson and the cast came out for the traditional “goodnights,” where the host says their thanks ahead of the closing credits. Johansson, who hosted this week’s Saturday Night Live season finale, dropped by Weekend Update to confront Michael Che about the hilariously obscene jokes he wrote about her for her husband Colin Jost to deliver. Kelli Giddish is coming back to “Law & Order: Svu” as a series regular in Season 27, Variety has confirmed.

Giddish originally joined “Svu” back in its 13th season as detective Amanda Rollins. She remained with the show as a main cast member until midway through Season 24. It was explained on the show that Rollins had married Ada Sonny Carisi Jr and then taken a teaching position.

She has made returns to the show since, however, first as a guest star in the Season 24 finale and popping up in episodes in both Season 25 and 26. This marks her return to full-time status with the series.

Giddish has also played Rollins in “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime” as well as fellow Dick Wolf shows “Chicago Fire” and “Chicago P.D.”

She is repped by Untitled Entertainment and Goodman Genow.

“Svu” was renewed for another season along with “Law & Order” earlier in May.

Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: Svu as a series regular in season 27, according to Deadline, reprising her role as Sgt. Amanda Rollins. Giddish, who joined the Law & Order:svu cast in season 13 in the wake of Christopher Meloni's departure as series regular in season 12, portrayed Rollins as a series regular until the midpoint of season 24, when her character departed Svu to take a teaching job at Fordham University and was subsequently moved to recurring status. In season 26, it was revealed that Rollins had left academia and joined the NYPD's Intelligence Unit, explaining her absence from the show due to extensive traveling.

The long-running police procedural Law & Order: Svu scored a renewal for Season 27. Amid the good news, the NBC crime-fighting series has another good surprise.

Following her recent return, the longtime series must've thought about her time on the show, where she played the character in over 260 episodes on the main series. She consulted on cases, returning for episodes that season as well as the following. But it was in Season 26 that she returned in a more heavily recurring role, with a new job: working in Intelligence and now a sergeant (she left Svu as a detective). “Rollins loves her new job. She says it’s like getting to eavesdrop on the whole world.

After two and a half years, Kelli Giddish is officially making a return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a series regular. Giddish's Amanda Rollins left mid-season 24, with the actress departing the show as a series regular. She'd made guest appearances over the last two and a half years, first returning as a friend, confidant, and professor and now as a sergeant with the intelligence division.

Deadline now confirms that Rollins will be back for the historic Season 27 as a series regular. There have been a series of shakeups ahead of the 27th Season. The series just lost two series regulars, Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano, as well as two executive producers: Julie Martin and Norberto Barba.
