The Island with Bear Grylls: Meet the castaways
Channel 4's daring new show The Island with Bear Grylls starts tonight, and trust us - it's worth a watch. The show sees 13 men getting dumped on an island in the Pacific for a month - with only a couple of knives and a day's water. Would they be able to survive? Even the camera crew were taking part with them. Well, we wanted to get to know a bit more about the stars of the show so we spoke to them at the launch to find out why on Earth they'd agree to sign up for this...

1. Some of the guys had pretty deep reasons for going on the show.

71-year-old Tony opened up about his previous "depression" and said that he had suffered from an "alcohol problem" - "Things happened that I recovered from" - while Craig admitted that he'd hit a "low point" in his life.

100 leading figures urge newspaper publishers to accept royal charter
More than 100 prominent people from literature, the arts, science, academia, human rights and the law have signed a declaration urging newspaper and magazine publishers to embrace the royal charter system of press regulation.

They join people who have been victims of press misbehaviour in arguing that charter will give "vital protection to the vulnerable" from abuse of power by the press.

The signatories include broadcasters Stephen Fry, Clare Balding, Gary Lineker and Rory Bremner. Actor Emma Thompson has signed, as have Professor Richard Dawkins and Sir Jonathan Miller.

Several film directors are on the list, such as Stephen Frears, Alan Parker, Mike Leigh, Beeban Kidron, Guy Ritchie, Stephen Daldry, Bill Forsyth, Peter Kosminsky, Terry Gilliam and Michael Apted.

Among the writers and playwrights are Alan Bennett, William Boyd, Alan Ayckbourn, Tom Stoppard, Monica Ali, Helen Fielding, Michael Frayn, Ian McEwan, A C Grayling, David Hare, Alan Hollinghurst, Jk Rowling, Salman Rushdie,...

Dave Stewart Scoring ‘Unlawful Killing’
Dave Stewart has scored the documentary Unlawful Killing, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last Friday. The film about the deaths of Princess Diana and Dodi Fayed on August 31, 1997 is directed by British actor and filmmaker Keith Allen (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave). The movie mixes interviews with recreations of some of the key moments from the official inquest. According to the film’s press release, the questions the film asks will inevitably shake the public’s perceptions of how Diana and her partner Dodi Fayed died. Guest contributors on the film include Tony Curtis, Howard Stern, Kitty Kelley, Mohamed Al Fayed, Piers Morgan and Michael Mansfield QC. The project marks Stewart’s first feature film credit since the 2004 remake of Alfie, on which he collaborated with Mick Jagger and composer John Powell. The musician/songwriter/record producer and composer, who is best known for his work with Eurythmics has previously scored a number of films,...

Not for British eyes: Keith Allen's Diana film seeks headlines in Cannes
The actor is in Cannes – where Unlawful Killing is not being shown – to squeeze as much festival publicity as he can

"It's made from my point of view," said Keith Allen as he defended his film about Princess Diana's death, Unlawful Killing. "It's what the French call being an auteur."

Every so often a little invented scandal blows into Cannes; a harmless, or not so harmless, flurry of carefully created media noise for a film that, while nothing to do with the festival's official programme, uses Cannes to lever in credibility by association.

So it was with this new film by Allen, an actor who once appeared in Shallow Grave. It is being touted as the film you will never see in Britain – lawyers have demanded 87 cuts before it can be certificated. Some may say: lucky Britain.

When Allen uttered his "auteur" line there were titters in the grand...

Princess Diana documentary to screen at Cannes
Keith Allen will debut his controversial film, 'the inquest of the inquest' of Princess Diana, at the festival as Unlawful Killing will not be shown in UK cinemas

Actor and film-maker Keith Allen will screen his controversial documentary about the death of Princess Diana in Cannes on 13 May.

Unlawful Killing, a labour of love developed over three years following extensive interviews with people who knew his subject, alleges that "dark forces" within the British establishment worked to cover up the true details of Diana's death in 1997. It is described by Allen as "the inquest of the inquest" and has drawn controversy because it will show a photograph of the dying princess taken by paparazzi moments after her car crashed in a Paris tunnel.

The black-and-white image is reportedly so graphic that it was pixelated during the inquest into Diana's fatal crash. It will not be shown in Britain because the...

Unlawful Killing – the film the British won't get to see | Keith Allen
My documentary about the Diana inquest will be shown everywhere but the UK. Here's why

The internet is a global lavatory wall, a Rabelaisian mixture of truth, lies, insanity and humour. I felt its power and madness this week, when an excerpt from my new film, Unlawful Killing, was leaked on to YouTube and seized on by Us conspiracy theorists, who immediately began claiming that the CIA had murdered Princess Diana, thereby allowing others to dismiss my documentary as mad.

Deriding its critics as mad is an age-old British establishment trick. My "inquest of the inquest" film contains footage of Diana recalling how the royals wanted her consigned to a mental institution, and the inquest coroner repeatedly questioning the sanity of anyone who wondered if the crash was more than an accident. His chief target was Mohamed Al Fayed, a man I once profiled for a Channel 4 documentary. Before I met him,...

Princess Diana's death sparks questions
A leading lawyer believes a plan to "sabotage" Britain's Princess Diana's life went wrong and led to her death. Michael Mansfield QC claims there was an operation to end her relationship with lover Dodi Fayed and stop her from criticising the British government over arms sales, which accidentally resulted in her death when her car crashed in a Parisian tunnel while being chased by paparazzi in 1997. Michael - who represented Dodi's father Mohamed al Fayed at a previous inquest into Diana's death - said: "I don't believe anyone wanted to see her dead. I think there was a plan to sabotage the relationship and alter her life, to try to stop her activities. But this plan went very badly...
