Odessa reveals competition line-up
Fredrik Bond’s The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman among the 11 films competing for the Golden Duke award at the 4th Oiff.

The Odessa International Film Festival (July 12-20) has unveiled the features nominated for the International Competition Grand Prix – The Golden Duke.

Directors of the 11 films are from the Us, UK, Israel, Georgia, Italy, Poland, Germany, Romania, France, India, Russia and Ukraine.

The films include Fredrik Bond’s The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman, a thriller starring Shia Labeouf and Evan Rachel Wood that premiered at Sundance and played in competition at Berlin.

Others include Ritesh Batra’s Cannes Critics’ Week winner The Lunchbox and Jan Ole Gerster’s Oh Boy, the German box office hit that has racked up prizes in Germany, Sofia and Tallinn among others.

The international jury that will choose Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor will include German actress Franziska Petri, British producer Tanya Seghatchian (Harry Potter), actress-director Nan Jorjadze...

We kick things off with a whole lot of shade for Jiggly Caliente, who nearly went home last week. In memoriam of the first queen to go, Alisa, apparently Jiggly deemed to necessary to wear a slashed, off-the-shoulder top a la Sammi on "Jersey Shore."

Jiggly is worried that the other queens are doing more than just reading her: "I feel like there's a target in the back of my head and all these bitches are trying to assassinate me," she says.

But ooh, gurl: We got SheMail. Ru's come to pump up the girls and says it's time for some necessary roughness (just don't hurt the face).

2011 World Fantasy Award Winners
They were announced this past weekend at the World Fantasy Convention (where else?), held this year in beautiful, sunny San Diego.

Since I’ve been a judge for this award (a few years back now; the scars have completely healed), I’ve got a higher regard for the winners, and now I really need to track down a copy of Who Fears Death.

Congratulations to all of the winners. And, to the judges: you can relax now, and read something you want to, for a change.
