Biography

    • Sonny Yng is a talented filmmaker from Western Sydney, holding a Major in Screen Practice & Production from Macquarie University. He is also an active member of Phoenix Eye Film, an organization dedicated to promoting diversity in the film industry and producing films that celebrate diverse voices and cultures.

Sonny developed his passion for filmmaking while growing up in Cabramatta, where he frequently watched Chinese action movies with his father. Although initially frightened by cinema after watching King Kong, he soon developed a deep appreciation for the art form as he was exposed to it more often. This early experience led him to experiment with creating videos using his father's iPhone 3 and even making short films with Nerf guns.

Throughout his career, Sonny has successfully completed several notable projects. He recently directed a short film titled "Paradise" and produced a documentary called "Bridging The Gap," both of which were screened at the esteemed Macquarie University theatre. He also participated in Take48, a highly competitive film competition that required filmmakers to shoot, edit, and produce a film within just 48 hours. The resulting film was showcased at Dendy Cinemas Newtown.

Sonny's love for action films is an enduring passion that drives his creative pursuits. His ultimate goal is to direct both feature films and short films that combine compelling storytelling with breathtaking martial arts action. Drawing inspiration from iconic films like "John Wick," "The Raid," and works by John Woo, he aspires to captivate audiences with memorable cinematic experiences.
