Latin Music Revenue Hits $1.4B in the U.S., Outpacing Overall Growth
Image
Latin music revenue surpassed $1 billion in revenue in the U.S. for the third consecutive year, the RIAA confirmed in its 2024 year-end latin music report released Tuesday, hitting a new all-time high of $1.4 billion last year.

Growth slowed to 6 percent last year, a considerable drop off from last year’s report, where Latin posted a 16 percent year-over-year bump. That’s in line with the broader U.S. market trends as streaming revenues level off with the market much more saturated than when the streaming boom began. As the RIAA’s broader year-end report showed, overall U.S. market revenues grew just 3 percent last year compared to eight percent the year prior.

Still, the report confirms that for the ninth year in a row, Latin growth is outpacing the broader U.S. market, reflecting Latin’s continued surge thanks to superstars like Bad Bunny and Peso Pluma. Streaming remains by far the most crucial for Latin,...

Vince Vaughn Set To Be The Politician
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in True Detective (2014)

The script comes courtesy of Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman, who cooked up the concept of a Washington, D.C. politician caught in a prostitution scandal.Nothing really new there, you might think, but the situation soon worsens when the dodgy politico and his less-than-competent cohort go on the run from drug dealers, the FBI and U.S. Marshals.Vaughn next has travel comedy Unfinished Business set to arrive, with a UK release date of March 6 next year. Vince Vaughn Signs On For Formulaic Comedy The Politician
Vince Vaughn has signed on the dotted line to appear in Columbia Pictures next comedy, The Politician. The screenplay by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman made its way onto The Black List last year. It then became the subject of a bidding war, which hints that it might not be terrible.

From the title alone, the mind wanders to a series of set-ups and narrow escapes the titular chappie will no doubt find himself in. And there’s the rub with Vaughn. Certainly with Seth Rogen set to produce, and Michael Dowse (straight off the back of What if) on board to direct – it has potential. More often than not, the guaranteed box office haul of ‘big stars’ means projects with turgid scripts careen into production. If the fact that the screenplay was fought over means anything, it’s that it could be an above average chucklefest.

Vince Vaughn to Lead 'The Politician' Comedy Produced by Seth Rogen
Ever since starring in the hit comedy Wedding Crashers, actor Vince Vaughn has struggled to find the same success with missteps like Fred Claus, The Internship, The Dilemma and Delivery Man. Those films just weren't all that funny, so now the actor is teaming with a more successful comedic star to see if that helps. THR reports Vaughn will star in The Politician, a new comedy set up at Columbia Pictures that has Seth Rogen producing along with his frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg and their Point Grey banner. Sweetening the deal is director Michael Dowse, fresh off the charming, funny romantic comedy What If. Plus, it sounds like the script by Matthew Bass and Theodore Bressman is good since it made the Black List in 2013 and sparked a bidding war late last year. So what's the story? The film will follow a politician (Vaughn) in Washington D.C. who is...

The Politician: Vince Vaughn Could Be on the Upswing in New Comedy
Vince Vaughn
It looks like Vince Vaughn is willing himself out of a career rut with some of the projects he’s been signing onto recently, which is something I’m pretty happy about. I’ve always loved his comic timing and have found him to be a relatable, charismatic and funny screen presence more often than not. But the shine started to come off of him over the past few years as his comedies grew more formulaic (in my opinion this fallow period stretches from Fred Claus up until Delivery Man). But with a role in Season 2 of True Detective and what sounds like a darker film coming up in Term Life, maybe Vaughn truly is taking back his career á la Matthew McConaughey. The Politician could be another step back in the right direction. At first glance, it appears possible that this studio project could be another paycheck gig, but...

The Unknown Known: Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan Tops 2013 Black List
We didn’t know it when docu-helmer Errol Morris (The Thin Blue Line, The Unknown Known) signed up for it last July, but by the looks of several industry players, he might have landed on the best screenplay of the bunch.

The annual “The Black List” unveiled its “favorite unproduced screenplays” of the year, and ranking at the top with a slim margin of a lead was Andrew Sodroski’s Holland, Michigan – a project that should begin lensing in April of next year with Naomi Watts possibly toplining. The second place top vote-getter got a lot more than a set of steak knifes this year. The out-of-nowhere, complete obscurity to huge pay day Section 6 by first time scribe Aaron Berg garnered huge interest towards the end of the year and should be jettisoned into production by the Universal folks – look for big name talent to be attached sometime in...

The Black List Announces The Best Unproduced Screenplays Of 2013
With all the mindless sequels and reboots that Hollywood has churned out over the last few years, it’s always nice when something original and well-written can break through and get a studio release. Unfortunately, many quality scripts can spend years without ever reaching the right executive to give it the green light. In an effort to make the process a little bit better, former production executive Franklin Leonard started The Black List in 2004. Today, the site announced its ninth annual list of the best unproduced scripts.

To come up with the list, nominations are received from over 250 executives. If a film gets 6 nominations, it gets a spot on the list. The more executives that nominate it, the higher on the list it is. The 2013 Black List!
What’s poppin’ cool kids! Well, let me tell ya!

In my opinion, the Hottest list in Hollywood to be on, The Black List, has just announced their 2013 winners! The Black List is the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted on by over 250 film execs. This year 72 scripts made the cut in the 2013 edition of the yearly ranking compiled since 2004 by baller Franklin Leonard.

Congrats to all the writers that made the list! I’m especially proud of my close dear friend, Latino screenwriter Hernany Perla who made the list!

The winners are…

Mississippi Mud by Elijah Bynum

Patient Z by Michael Le

Make A Wish by Zach Frankel

Randle Is Benign by Damien Ober

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

Queen Of Hearts by Stephanie Shannon

Holland, Michigan by Andrew Sodroski

Hot Summer Nights by Elijah Bynum

Dude by Oliva Milch

Pan by Jason Fuchs

Black List announced: See which screenplays have Hollywood talking
Withough further ado, the cover of #BlackList2013, designed by Glen Charbonneau. Let's get started. pic.twitter.com/5G0V1kGsXd— The Black List (@theblcklst) December 16, 2013

While Prisoners, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Spectacular Now have generated positive reviews at the box office, they also share one common distinction: They were all recognized on Franklin Leonard’s Black List, an annual compendium of the year’s most-liked un-produced screenplays as determined by the hundreds of executives in Hollywood that spend their lives reading scripts.

Leonard, 35, began the list in 2005 on a lark. As a young development executive about to leave for winter vacation,...

The Black List 2011: Top Unproduced Screenplays
The 2011 Black List, the Top Unproduced Screenplays of the year has been released. The best unproduced screenplays from The Black List 2011 is compiled by votes from over 300 “execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year’s list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman.”

Regarding the validity of The Black List, things to keep in mind:

some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though…none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.

The Black List of 2011 - Part 1
For the seventh annual year a list of the top unproduced screenplays written in the past 12 calendar months has been made. The Black List is the most recognized and celebritized compilation for screenwriters and unknown movie ideas to be heard. While some prior Black List scripts have gone on to be made (like Juno or 500 Days of Summer), most scripts do not. However, what being on The Black List can do is to give a big push of credibility to a screenwriter hoping to carve out a career in Hollywood.

The Black List recepients are chosen by a committee of 300 individuals working in Hollywood: agents, writers, producers, managers and the like. They read the screenplays that float around the showbiz ecosystem; some are bought and are already in development while others are still seeing the interest of talent of financial backers.

The makers of The Black List are good to...

2011 Black List Arrives Online
The 2011 Black List has arrived online and there are a bunch of the hottest scripts in Hollywood. Some have already been picked up by studios, while most are still unproduced. Here is the press release: The Black List was compiled from the suggestions of over 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to ten of their favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2011 and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year.

This year, scripts had to receive at least six mentions to be included on the The Black List.

All reasonable effort has been made to confirm the information contained herein. The Black List apologizes for all misspellings, misattributions, incorrect representation identification, and questionable 2011 affiliations.

It has been said many times, but it's worth repeating:

The Black List is not a "best of" list. It is, at best, a "most liked" list.

The 2011 Black List: The Year’s Best Unproduced Screenplays
[1] Each December since 2004, studio executive Franklin Leonard has compiled the best unproduced screenplays of the year, as voted by hundreds of execs, agency guys, and high-level assistants. Titled The Black List, the compendium highlights both established screenwriters and up-and-comers, and has served as a launching pad in the past for projects like Juno, Lars and the Real Girl, and (500) Days of Summer. Last year's list included Margin Call, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Hunger Games, and Snow White and the Huntsman. It should be noted that the headline is somewhat misleading -- some of these screenplays have already been acquired and are already in development, though according to Leonard none will have entered principal photography by December 31, 2011. Also worth pointing out is that, as in previous years, there have been rumors that some of the participants have been accused of using the Black List to promote their own clients or friends.
