'I Think You Should Leave' Producer Offers The Most Exciting Update on Season 4 Yet [Exclusive]
Image
It's been two years since Netflix released I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson Season 3 to rapturous praise with a new set of quotable sketches that lived rent-free in viewers' heads. In that time, however, updates have been few and far between for a potential return of the gloriously unhinged comedy series, aside from the occasional affirmation that it's still coming eventually. Ahead of the release of his new The Naked Gun reboot, Akiva Schaffer was finally able to provide some more clarity beyond the fact that the show isn't dead like Corncob TV. Speaking to Collider's Steve Weintraub, he gave some insight as to how much is already written and when Tim Robinson and the team should kick the series back into gear.

When Robinson last spoke to Collider about the status of the series, he couldn't say much other than that he and co-creator Zach Kanin...

“Adolescence” was the big winner at the Gotham Television Awards, taking home three prizes, including breakthrough limited series, on Monday night.

Seth Rogen’s “The Studio” won breakthrough comedy series, and “The Pitt” won best drama.

The actors, directors, writers and producers feted at the ceremony, hosted at New York’s Cipriani Wall Street, emphasized the need to preserve and protect the entertainment industry amid geopolitical strife and AI fears.

“We love this business,” said Amy Sherman-Palladino, accepting the Creator Tribute alongside her husband Daniel Palladino. “God please help everybody. Let’s make it survive.”

“Let’s keep the arts alive!” shouted an enthusiastic Parker Posey. “Let’s turn this business into entertainment that everyone can love. That old people and young people and even babies laugh at!”

Posey, who was honored with the Legend Tribute, was introduced by her “White Lotus” co-stars Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell, who took...

Daniel’s Gotta Die Review: A Caribbean Conspiracy
Image
Jeremy Lalonde, familiar for character-driven comedies, shifts sharply into darker territory with Daniel’s Gotta Die, marking Bob Saget’s final screen turn as the sly executor Lawrence. The film signals its intent from a Saul Bass–inspired title sequence that nods to mid-century thrillers, then plunges into satirical suspense.

Daniel Powell (Joel David Moore), a sous chef whose relentless cheer defines him, suddenly inherits his affluent father’s empire—on one condition: he must spend a weekend with his resentful half-siblings at their family’s opulent Cayman Islands retreat. Should they bond under Edward Powell’s bizarre chores, the fortune divides; if not, Daniel claims it all.

That seaside villa, with its colonial architecture and sun-bleached corridors, becomes a crucible where North American notions of entitlement clash with Caribbean echoes of wealth and inheritance. Lush palms and pastel walls belie lurking danger, as visual framing shifts between widescreen elegance and tight,...

Francis Lawrence in I Am Legend (2007)
Impact Winter | Francis Lawrence and Netflix working on a new horror series based on a podcast
Francis Lawrence in I Am Legend (2007)
Netflix has acquired the rights to Impact Winter, a horror podcast series, and is working with Francis Lawrence to bring it to the small screen.

The post-apocalyptic TV show market is pretty busy, but there must be room for one more, right? Let’s hope so because Netflix has acquired the rights to Impact Winter, a podcast series created by Travis Beacham, and is looking to develop it into a series of their own as reported by Deadline.

In the series, a comet has hit Earth, causing eternal night and pitting humans against vampires. Deadline mentions that the original podcast has been described as a mix of 30 Days Of Night and The Last Of Us. We must admit, that’s a pretty intriguing combination and clearly one that works. Impact Winter is now on its 3rd season, with a fourth one on the way. Over 6 million people follow and listen to the podcast,...

"There is something weird going on here." Brainstorm Media has revealed the funny official trailer for an indie comedy called Daniel's Gotta Die, made by filmmaker Jeremy Lalonde. This initially premiered back in 2022 at the Austin Film Festival and has played at a number of other film festivals but is only now getting an official release this year - including on VOD this February. ‘Life & Beth’ Axed After 2 Seasons At Hulu
Image
Amy Schumer’s Life & Beth is no longer.

Hulu has canceled the dramedy after two seasons. The move is not a huge surprise as the second season finished in February, and while Hulu obviously didn’t release any viewing data, it failed to crack Nielsen’s streaming list.

Written, directed, executive produced and starring Schumer, Life & Beth follows Beth (Schumer), whose life looks pretty great on paper. Impressive to everyone she grew up with, she makes a good living as a wine distributor. She’s in a long-term relationship with an attractive, successful guy and lives in Manhattan. But when a sudden incident forces her to engage with her past, her life changes forever.

‘Fantasmas’ Trailer: Julio Torres Is on a Surreal Odyssey to Find a Lost Pearl Earring
Image
Julio Torres is stepping into a very literal and gender-swapped “Girl With a Pearl Earring” rendition for HBO.

The “Los Espookys” creator is back at the network with new surreal series “Fantasmas,” which he created, directed, and stars in. The series debuted at the Atx TV Festival earlier this year.

Torres plays a fictionalized version of himself as he tries to uncover a lost gold oyster earring. In his search to find the precious object, Torres’ character Julio reflects on the offbeat folks he encounters in introspective, eerie, and comedic vignettes set in a dreamy, alternate version of New York City. The surreal series is billed as a “fantastical six-part tale” that is a “kaleidoscope of color” to “weave together stories of people looking for meaning, purpose, and connection in an increasingly isolating world.”

In addition to Torres, the cast includes Martine Gutierrez, Tomas Matos, and Joe Rumrill as the voice of Bibo.

It was somewhat of a surprise given that James Corden’s Apple series Carpool Karaoke, which has won the award for two years in a row, was also nominated, coming off the back of ending his stint on The Late Late Show, the series responsible for originating the musical car ride.

Robinson also beat out Awkwafina Is Hangin’ With Grandma, Better Call Saul: Filmmaker Training and Only Murders In The Building: One Killer Question.

‘Podcasting Can Be a Great Development Step and Proof of Concept,’ Say Irony Point Co-Founders
Daniel Powell
Irony Point co-founders Daniel Powell and Alex Bach have specialized in producing hit comedy series such as “Inside Amy Schumer,” “Life With Beth” and “I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson,” but their podcasting-focused sister company Radio Point lets them branch out into new genres and develop proof of concepts for future TV productions.

“Our first podcast was a scripted show called ‘Ellie and the Wave’ with Natalie Morales as the lead,” Bach told TheWrap for this week’s Office With a View. “We could see how it would translate to TV, but it was very much intended to be in audio and developed it for the medium. Since then, we’ve had a number of projects in development where we’re lining up both the podcast release and the TV plan.”

They started Radio Point with Smartless Media president Richard Korson and Houston Snyder of Great City Post...

Michael Che in That Damn Michael Che (2021)
The second season of the Max Original comedy sketch show “That Damn Michael Che” will debut on Thursday, May 26 with all six episodes, HBO announced on Tuesday.

In the trailer, also released on Tuesday, Che has to tell his “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update” co-host Colin Jost, who’s heading straight for the omelet bar, that he’s at an all-Black breakfast event.

Each episode focuses on a single topical theme, like religion. In the clip, Che is less than thrilled when the pilot (David Alan Grier) on his flight instructs everyone to say, “Jesus, take the wheel.” “Shouldn’t the pilot be taking the wheel?” the comic asks his seatmate.

As Che also tells his audience during a stand-up routine, “Talking to god is like getting your therapist’s answering machine. Hey god, it’s me again. I don’t know if you’re getting these.”

Tim Robinson’s beloved sketch comedy show “I Think You Should Leave” has been renewed for Season 3 at Netflix, Variety has learned exclusively.

Cast member Sam Richardson told Variety that the team was in the process of writing the third season in early March. It is unclear when Season 3 will debut, as well as how many episodes it will contain. If one thing’s for sure, there will be more memes (and hopefully more hot dogs).

“I Think You Should Leave” is created by Robinson and Zach Kanin. Akiva Schaffer, Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone (The Lonely Island) and Ali Bell executive produce for Party Over Here, alongside Alex Bach and Dan Powell for Irony Point, and Alice Mathias.

Irony Point might not have wide name recognition just yet, but its projects, which include Netflix’s WGA Award-winning “I Think You Should Leave With Tim Robinson” and Marvel’s new scripted “Squirrel Girl” podcast, are attracting the attention of high-profile backers.

The banner, now almost 12 months into a three-year overall deal with Netflix, is headed by co-presidents Alex Bach and Daniel Powell. Their little company also has partnered with Endeavor Content and Broadway Video on recent projects.

Endeavor Content, Irony Point’s collaborator on Hulu dramedy “Life & Beth,” is a “behemoth” operating “in a budget space that we’ve previously not even come close to,” Powell tells Variety. “Being partners with them as the studio really allowed us to have our first experience in what I’d say is a different league, but one that we hope to continue in.”

Powell and Bach feel similarly about Irony Point...

‘Archive 81’ Trailer: Netflix Horror Series Asks ‘What Is Going on in This Building?’
Image
When it comes to living in New York City, few things are as scary as real estate. But in Netflix’s “Archive 81,” premiering January 14 on the streamer, it’s not the rent or the rodents that terrify. It’s “pioneers of the imagination,” according to the trailer.

At least, that’s the impression given in the series’ first trailer. Based on the three-season podcast of the same name, the upcoming horror thriller finds a video archivist Dan (Mamoudou Athie) attempting to restore VHS tapes damaged in a fire. And as everyone from “The Ring” to “V/H/S/” knows, there’s nothing more frightening than what lies on analog.

Sure enough, Dan is able to restore some tapes just enough to become enmeshed in documentarian Melody’s 1994 exploration of a NYC apartment building, where some very strange things are happening, including mask-wearing, modern dance, and some very scary tenant meetings. Not...
