Haunting ‘The Brutalist’ Score Sets the Stage for a ‘Disorienting Sensory Overload’ — Listen Now
Image
There is a brutal beauty to “The Brutalist” score, as composed by Daniel Blumberg.

The now Golden Globe-nominated score will be released as a full album this Friday, December 13. Prior to its unveiling, IndieWire shares two of the score’s key themes, “Erzsébet” and “Construction.”

Writer/director Brady Corbet’s “The Brutalist” centers on Adrien Brody’s immigrant architect László Tóth, who arrives in the U.S. after WWII. László’s marriage to his wife Erzsébet (Felicity Jones) is rebuilding stateside, just as he begins construction on a massive complex commissioned by wealthy and prominent industrialist Harrison Lee Van Buren (Guy Pearce).

Composer Blumberg wrote the music, which will be released by Milan Records. Blumberg worked closely with Corbet across the seven-year gestation period for the film, resulting in almost two hours of original music, including for the 15-minute intermission. Per an official press statement, Corbet and Blumberg “identified early...

New NCIS Prequel Show’s Young Gibbs Casting Is Even More Exciting After This 2-Year-Old Crime Drama's Success
Image
Austin Stowell's casting as young Gibbs in NCIS: Origins is a strong choice due to his authoritative roles in past TV series and movies. Stowell's performance in A Friend of the Family showcases his ability to embody a government agent, setting him up for success in NCIS: Origins. Like Mark Harmon, Stowell's varied career experiences prior to NCIS: Origins make him a fitting choice for the iconic role of Gibbs.

The announcement of an NCIS prequel, NCIS: Origins, was exciting enough, but now the new series has revealed who will play the younger Leory Jethro Gibbs, and this casting is improved by the actor's previous action series credits. NCIS: Origins is the newest series to join the iconic NCIS franchise, which first began in 2003. The prequel spinoff series will, of course, continue to delve into the mysterious cases investigated by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, but in particular, NCIS: Origins...

Twitter Sues Elon Musk to Enforce 44B Takeover
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Twitter has sued Elon Musk over his decision to scrap a 44 billion takeover of the social media company, arguing he’s required to consummate the deal in accordance with the merger agreement.

“Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, Musk apparently believes that he — unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law — is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away,” reads the complaint filed on Tuesday in the Delaware Court of Chancery.

Musk in April made a 44 billion cash offer to buy Twitter to “unlock” its potential to “be the platform for free speech around the globe.” He discreetly started purchasing shares in January, building his stake in the company until he owned five percent two months later.

But...

Image
Distributor Fred Media has inked deals for factual entertainment series Space Invaders across the US, Europe, and Australasia.

The original 10 x 60-minute series was created and produced by Fred Media’s parent company, Wtfn, for the Nine Network, which has commissioned a second series due to commence production later this year.

After its launch at MIPTV in April, the first series has been acquired by Tvnz across the ditch and Sbs in Belgium, with a further eight territories currently under negotiation.

Several European production companies are also working on local versions, including Germany’s Leonine Studios (The Ultimate Chart Show), France’s WeMake (The Big Crazy Game Night), and Finland’s Aito Media (You Are What You Eat) in Finland, alongside a yet-to-be-announced broadcaster. In addition, US producer Critical Content (Catfish) has struck a deal with Fred Media for the format in The States.

Rest assured, Rihanna will not be judging Fox’s X Factor.

The R&B songstress told Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday that she was in talks to join Simon Cowell‘s latest reality-tv venture, but ultimately the timing just wasn’t right. “It’s something that I would have loved to do,” she explained. “But … you have to be around months at a time, which is impossible for me.”

The Black Eyes Peas’ Fergie and Cowell’s old Idol cohort, Paula Abdul, are both names still being thrown about to join La Reid at the dais.

Oprah's Own announces six new shows
Oprah Winfrey at an event for The Great Debaters (2007)
Oprah Winfrey’s cable network Own is announcing six new shows to advertisers at its first upfront presentation. The network has struggled to gain ratings traction since it launched in January, though the channel is renewing four of its programs. The new titles, along with official descriptions:

– Confronting: “This provocative series documents the powerful and sometimes painful mediation process in which victim and offender come together in the hopes of achieving closure.”

– I Owe You My Life: “This series will delve into the dramatic stories of everyday people from every corner of the world who take risky, even death-defying...

OWN Renews 4 Series, Orders 6 New Shows At Upfront
Oprah Winfrey at an event for The Great Debaters (2007)
In its first upfront presentation since its Jan. 1 launch, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network announced the pickup of 6 new unscripted series and the renewal of 4 existing shows. The announcement didn't include the most anticipated new OWN series, an Oprah Winfrey show, which will launch in September, after the end of her syndicated talk show. The network is yet to share details about it, though it is expected to be a talk show. OWN has been slow out of the gate, barely outperforming the channel it replaced, Discovery Health. One of the most heavily promoted first new series, Your OWN Show, flopped, and Oprah Presents Master Class has underperformed. But the network found early success with Our America with Lisa Ling, the first OWN series to get renewed, and Season 25: Oprah Behind the Scenes. The Judds also had a promising premiere on Sunday. Joining Our America on the list of renewed...

Pajiba After Dark 1/10/11
For someone whose sort of job it is to be aware of all the new TV that's on each weeknight, it's really a little embarrassing how frequently I just put on some reruns while doing other things around my apartment. This means that I barely pay attention to TV anymore unless it's something I really want to watch, it's sort of like a flickering box of lights that makes my apartment feel not so boring for a little while at a time. Is that weird? Actually, don't tell me, I really don't care. Here's your Monday night TV:

8:00pm: "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS

"The Bachelor" on ABC

"Enough Already with Peter Walsh" on Own. Okay, so use an anonymous name if you must, but can someone tell me if they're actually watching anything on Own? Because if I don't have to list this shit I won't. I figured for...

I hope everyone out there survived their New Years celebrations more or less intact. I'm a bit in the "less" column myself, but I had fun and that's what's really important. I think. Anyway we're diving back into a whole new year of television that is, at least so far, not significantly different than the previous year of television. Kind of anti-climactic really. Now, my newly acquired cast makes it really tricky to type, so with pre-emptive apologies for mistakes, here's you Monday night TV:

8:00pm: "Antiques Roadshow" on PBS. 15th season premiere. They're in Miami Beach, which doesn't make much sense since most of the antiques we have here are people, not furniture. Maybe they'll go around evaluating people's meemaws.

"The Bachelor" on ABC. 15th season premiere.

"Enough Already with Peter Walsh" on Own. Series premiere. Has anyone watched the new Oprah Channel yet? Anyone plan to?

People TV Critic Picks 3 Shows to Watch on Oprah's New Network
Oprah Winfrey in The Oprah Winfrey Show (1986)
Having watched Snooki safely descend in her New Year's Eve bubble, I was ready to start 2011 with a more edifying spectacle: the launch of the Oprah Winfrey Network, the talk-show titan's new venture with the Discovery Channel. The shows that aired over Own's premiere weekend all conformed to Winfrey's admirable philosophy of emotional validation, empowerment and living one's best life. This would probably be so even if she created The Walking Dead. The shows were all well produced, fully realized and not especially adventuresome. Kidnapped by the Kids is a reality show in which children instruct parents on what it...

TV Or Not TV: 1/3 - 1/9
As a new year is upon us and in looking forward to the oncoming winter season of television I have to say there’s not a lot in the new offerings that I’m looking forward to.

Last year ABC made the decision to cut the show Flash Forward and instead continue on with the equally ratings challenged V. The programming choice was a shock to some, myself included, but I’m sure the network had some sound reasons for making their decision. It was disappointing for me since Flash Forward had actually upped its game in its final episodes with a new focus that made everything really come together. V never really had enough to hold my attention especially when you factor in the three episode premiere followed by a long break from the fall until the spring.

Tuesday marks the return of V and fans of the show...

Oprah Winfrey Network unveils schedule, including Judd and O'Neal reality series
Oprah Winfrey is banking on resolutions for 2011 including a commitment to her new channel. Own launches at 12 p.m. Et. Jan. 1, and the network's newly unveiled schedule includes two new reality ventures from tumultuous celebrity families.

"The Judds" will follow country music mother/daughter duo Naomi and Wynonna Judd preparing for their first tour in a decade while exploring their "complex relationship." There's no word on any possible involvement from Ashley, the more subdued Judd.

Also acquired by Own: "Ryan and Tatum: The O'Neals," the docu-drama first reported on in August. The series focuses on the long-estranged father and daughter's attempt to rebuild their relationship by moving in together and attending therapy.

"We're excited these two iconic families are allowing us to chronicle their personal stories as they embark on new chapters," says Own chief creative officer Lisa Erspamer of the two series which will debut later in 2011. "We think...
