There's a new Sherlock Holmes coming to Watson next season. Matt Berry, who voiced the legendary detective in a lone Season 1 episode, will not reprise the role in the flesh for Season 2.
Instead, per Deadline, Robert Carlyle will step into the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes for the CBS medical drama series' sophomore outing, which will premiere this fall. "We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in Season 2," shared Watson showrunner Craig Sweeny in a statement. "The man has played iconic roles in projects like Trainspotting, The Full Monty and 28 Weeks Later, and now he steps into the shoes of the most iconic detective of all, Sherlock Holmes."

For the entire first season of Watson, there was a big question of whether or not Sherlock Holmes is truly alive; he seemingly died during a face-off with the villain Moriarty (Randall Park) at Reichenbach Falls. Matt Berry voiced the iconic sleuth in hallucinations of Dr. John Watson’s (Morris Chestnut). Now, Robert Carlyle has been cast as Sherlock Holmes and will recur in Watson Season 2. Now, Watson looks to the future and “faces an unexpected twist when Sherlock Holmes, who was presumed dead, resurfaces, forcing him to confront a buried secret from his past — one that lies hidden within his own body,” the season description teases. “We are thrilled to have the mighty Robert Carlyle join the cast of Watson in Season 2. Past winners like “Hacks” and “The Bear” will battle newcomers like “The Studio,” legends will be bypassed in favor of upstarts, and “The White Lotus” will try its best to hog the supporting actor and actress categories one more time.
That’s the outlook for the 77th Primetime Emmy Award nominations, which will be announced on Tuesday morning by Harvey Guillen and Brenda Song. With the number of entries in many categories slipping for the second year in a row, Television Academy rules dictate that the number of nominees will also drop, leading to pitched battles for the remaining slots and inevitable cries of “Snub!” when the nominations are revealed.
Our stab at prognostication suggests that “Abbott Elementary,” “The Bear,” “Hacks,” “Shrinking” and “The Studio” will all do well in the marquee comedy categories; “The Pitt,” “Severance” and “The White Lotus” will be among the most-nominated dramas; and that “Adolescence” will top “The Penguin,...

Last Sunday, AMC premiered the period adventure drama Nautilus. A loose reimagining of Jules Verne’s classic novel Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, this version of the titular submarine is the handiwork of labor by inmates enslaved in a private prison by the East India Mercantile Company, which in the mid-19th century is more powerful than any government. One such inmate is the man who helped its official engineer design the craft, and who becomes its captain: Nemo.

The live-action The Cat in the Hat movie from 2003 was so poorly reviewed that Dr. Seuss‘ widow Audrey Geisel actually decided to never allow a live-action adaptation of any of his other books.
In the years since, all adaptations have been animated and now The Cat in the Hat is getting an animated feature film for the first time!
Doing what he does best, the Cat—voiced by Bill Hader—spreads joy to kids in his hilarious, signature and singularly irreverent way, transporting them and audiences on a fantastical journey through a world they’ve never seen before. In the film, our hero takes on his toughest assignment yet for the I.I.I.I.: to cheer Gabby and Sebastian, a pair of siblings struggling with their move to a new town. Known for taking things too far, this could be this agent of chaos’s last chance to prove himself…or lose his magical hat!

When many of us think of iconic literary characters from our youth, legends like Corduroy, Madeline, Harold, Max, Eloise, and Curious George come to mind. Still, few remain as influential across generations as Cat from Dr. Seuss‘s 1957 children’s book The Cat in the Hat. With his lanky frame, barber shop pole striped hat, red bowtie, and white gloves, Cat is a feline of simple taste but remains as unpredictable as a kitten with a laser pointer. Today, Warner Bros. Animation brings Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat back for a bold new adaptation of his zany antics with a more spirited and colorful trailer than a school of fish.

Talk about cat-itude. Following in the pawsteps of Mike Myers and Martin Short, Bill Hader is the latest actor to embody Dr. Seuss's iconic chapeau-wearing feline in Warner Bros. Animation's upcoming animated version of The Cat in the Hat. Due in theaters on Feb. 27, the release marks the return of the studio's previously dormant theatrical animation division, which teased a full slate of new feature-length cartoons at CinemaCon earlier this year.
The CinemaCon crowd was also treated to early footage from the The Cat in the Hat, including some non-finished sequences. But all the digital ink and paint is dry on the first trailer for the film, which debuted today and promised plenty of Seussian imagery and tomfoolery.

Oh, the places Bill Hader will go in next year's The Cat in the Hat movie. Over seven years ago, Warner Bros. Pictures snagged the rights to make a new feature adaptation of Dr. Seuss's iconic anthropomorphic feline. Now, the first trailer is finally here with the Barry star voicing the titular character in a whimsical new adventure that expands on the world of the storybook original. Filled with colorful and surreal visuals that capture the children's author's style, the footage teases a new challenge that will take him around the planet and threaten his signature striped headgear. The film will bring a little magic to theaters on March 6, 2026.
Published in 1957, the original Cat in the Hat tells the story of a young brother and sister who, during one cold and rainy day when their mother isn't home, are visited by the cat and his assistants, Things One and Two.

Duncan Jones finally has something to show for the movie he's been promising since 2018. The Moon and Warcraft director is no stranger to meticulous sci-fi and his newest project, Rogue Trooper, is his most ambitious yet. Empire got the scoop, releasing jaw-dropping first-look images of the film Jones built entirely in the usually video-game-specific Unreal Engine 5.
The animated film will adapt the 2000Ad comic arc of the same name and, if the wild imagery glimpsed in the sneak peek is any indication, Jones' long-awaited return to the smart sci-fi that made his name.
Official Synopsis per Letterboxed:
Rogue is a “Genetic Infantryman”, a genetically-engineered, blue-skinned, manufactured super soldier who, alongside his three comrades, is searching for the Traitor General. His comrades are with him in the form of biochips—onto which a G.I.’s entire personality is downloaded at the time of death for later retrieval—and are named...

Warning: contains spoilers from Season 4 of The Bear.
Since its premiere in 2022, The Bear has won two DGA Awards, five Critics’ Choice Awards, five Golden Globes and 21 Emmys — all in comedy categories. In 2024, Jeremy Allen White beat out Matt Berry from What We Do in the Shadows for the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series Emmy; at the same ceremony, Liza Colón-Zayas beat Hannah Einbinder from Hacks. The previous year, The Bear was Emmy voters’ choice for Outstanding Comedy Series in 2023, triumphing over shows including Abbott Elementary.
I’m not sure exactly how the Television Academy, which awards the Emmy, defines a comedy, but one thing will be clear if The Bear submits in those categories next year: It’s not based on how funny they are. As proof, here’s every joke — and, because I’m being generous, seemingly intended laugh line — from the show’s just-dropped fourth season.

He’s the last survivor of a doomed mission and is hunting down the person who betrayed his squad. But he’s not entirely alone; Rogue carries the minds of his fallen teammates with him, downloaded into his gun, backpack, and helmet. It sounds strange, and it is, but in the best way possible.

From Moon to Source Code, and Warcraft to Mute, Duncan Jones has long since proven himself a leading light as both an intelligent sci-fi filmmaker and a director who knows a thing or two about bringing a unique artistic sensibility to ambitious, large-scale projects. And his latest, a long-gestating animated adaptation of 2000Ad's Rogue Trooper sci-fi comic book series, looks set to prove the apotheosis of Jones' creative journey to date. Built using Epic Games' cutting edge Unreal Engine 5, Rogue Trooper sees Aneurin Barnard (Doctor Who) star as a lone survivor super soldier on a mission for vengeance — accompanied, naturally, by a sentient gun, backpack, and helmet imbued with his dead fellow squaddies' personalities. If it sounds wild on paper, then you ain't seen nothin' yet. Just check out our exclusive first-look images from the movie below;

Watson star Morris Chestnut has addressed the possibility of Sherlock Holmes appearing in the CBS medical drama. The modern Sherlock Holmes-inspired adaptation is unusual in the sense that the Great Detective does not actually appear in the show. In fact, the storyline picks up after Holmes' apparent death, and sees Dr. John Watson move to Pittsburgh and open a practice to treat patients with strange or unidentifiable issues. Holmes has yet to make an appearance in the show in person, but this could be set to change.
Per Deadline, Chestnut discussed the possibility of Matt Berry - who voices Sherlock in the show - appearing on the screen in Watson at some point. Without confirming things one way or another, Chestnut suggests that Holmes does come back at some point in the series, but refuses to elaborate further. Check out Chestnut's comments below:

Pedro Pascal and Tom Cruise have been at the top of their careers for quite some time. The former has been releasing projects like no other, transitioning from starring in The Last of Us to Materialists, while also awaiting the release of Fantastic Four: First Steps. Cruise, on the other hand, has just released his eighth and final Mission: Impossible film.
As both actors don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon, their past works echo a similar theme. While they have just released some very big films, their past filmographies are still going strong, with two specific films competing for the top spot on Paramount Plus.
Even though Cruise is one of the biggest names in the industry, Top Gun: Maverick just got dethroned by Pascal’s Gladiator II.

Morris Chestnut said Watson follows Sherlock Holmes canon, hinting at a major character reveal in Season 2. The show is set in the aftermath of Holmes’ death, but those who’ve read the stories know that Holmes survived that fall.
CBS reimagined the Sherlock Holmes lore by expanding Dr. John Watson’s storyline. Watson is a unique spin on medical procedurals, featuring familiar, modern-day versions of characters, with Morris Chestnut in the titular role. Sherlock Holmes doesn’t appear in the show because it takes place a year after his apparent death; Watson has resumed his medical practice and moved on. Speaking to Deadline, Chestnut teased that Holmes could appear in the flesh in the (now-confirmed) second season.
“I will say Holmes, you know, in the mythology, does come back… and we are part of the mythology,” he explained, referring to The Return of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.

Watson star Morris Chestnut recently shared his hopes for Elementary's Lucy Liu to make an appearance on his Sherlock Holmes show. While the shows are currently unrelated, their creative teams do have some overlap.
Per Deadline, Chestnut talked about wanting to 'track down' Liu to get her to appear on his show. Watson was created by Craig Sweeney, who also executive produced Elementary, where Liu starred as Dr. Joan Watson. "I'm trying to track her down and get her to come on our show because, yes, that would be great if we could get her," Chestnut said. He added that there are no talks with Liu, but he is "serious" about trying to have her appear in CBS's latest adaptation of the Sherlock Holmes stories. Chestnut is also an executive producer for the series.
Watson premiered on CBS in January, putting a medical drama twist on the usual Sherlock Holmes-style mysteries.

It seems like nearly everyone sided against Warner Bros. when the studio made the decision to shelve Coyote Vs. Acme, as the family film was already completed. Much like Batgirl, despite what the final product’s reception would turn out to be, the work of the artists involved in the production seemingly went on just to become a tax write-off. Warners is now producing a new animated version of the Dr. Seuss classic, The Cat in the Hat, and the team behind the upcoming film would take a surprising stand on the issue.
According to Deadline, The Cat in the Hat creatives have defended Warner Bros. on making the decision to shelve Coyote Vs. The team behind Warners’ upcoming The Cat in the Hat movie have defended the studio’s decision to shelve Coyote vs. Acme, saying that the episode should not “become representative of how painful and atrocious the industry can be.”
Speaking during a Work in Progression session at Annecy, Alessandro Carloni, who is co-writing and directing The Cat in the Hat, said he has landed six movie directing roles across his career and only finished two of them.
“It’s that kind of industry,” he added. “You have to go with the frustration. We are lucky to do art in our profession but we can’t lock ourselves in a basement and paint a painting. We get to do things that are huge and expensive and it is a business.”

From prestigious cinema to classic comedy stages, Matt Berry has seen it all. Interestingly, though, his big break in Toast of London once filled him with great dread. As the co-creator and lead star of the show, Berry confessed that the satirized depiction of the voiceover culture might undermine his credibility in real voice work.
Fast forward to 2024, and not only has he solidified his standing in the animation industry, but he has also joined the star-studded voiceover cast lineup, alongside Pedro Pascal, in DreamWorks’ The Wild Robot, a 2024 animated movie that earned 3 Academy Award nominations. His transformation from an actor afraid to self-sabotage to a renowned voiceover professional is truly remarkable and entirely understandable.

Co-written by Matt Berry and Arthur Matthews, Toast of London aired in 2012, showcasing Berry’s slapdash, idiosyncratic comedic chops.

Katherine Parkinson stepping into the Harry Potter universe should’ve been exciting news – she’s sharp, funny, and beloved for The It Crowd. But there’s baggage here, and it’s not just the Sorting Hat kind. Parkinson’s involvement comes after her controversial It Crowd episode, which was reportedly banned for transphobic content.
Now, combine that with J.K. Rowling’s own heavily criticized stance on trans issues, and suddenly this casting feels like part of a larger, troubling pattern. Rather than moving forward, the Harry Potter franchise seems to be surrounding itself with voices linked to outdated narratives, and that’s a red flag for many fans.

To date, Emmy voters have showered Only Murders in the Building with 49 nominations and seven wins, though none of the main actors has prevailed. That could all change for the buzzed-about fourth season, which aired last summer and is now eligible at the 2025 Emmys.
According to our updated odds, Martin Short (Oliver Putnam) is out front to win his Best Comedy Actor category, just months after he shockingly scored at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. His costars, Steve Martin (Charles-Haden Savage) and Selena Gomez (Mabel Mora), are both in sixth place for nominations. The three leads play unlikely crime-solvers who podcast about murders that occur in and around their building, the fancy-schmancy Arconia in New York City.
Season 4 features a sprawling roster of special guests, including two actors — Meryl Streep (Loretta Durkin) and Paul Rudd (Glen Stubbins) — who received supporting nominations last year. Due to an already-controversial new Emmy rule,...

The cast of What We Do in the Shadows was visibly sad when they realized they may be all together for the last time, appearing on stage at Disney FYC Fest at the DGA Theater. But as the sixth and final season of the FX series demonstrated — as well as a slew of alternate endings they screened at the panel — they've gotten pretty good at handling goodbyes.
Showrunner Paul Simms, who parodied the famous finale moments in The Usual Suspects, Rosemary’s Baby, and Newhart in the alternate endings, revealed the additional iconic last-moments reference they were really trying to make happen but couldn't make work.

Fox will be the place to go for animated comedies on broadcast television. After recently giving several animated shows big renewals, three more have been confirmed.
Per Deadline, Fox has just renewed the following animated shows: Krapopolis, Grimsburg, and Universal Basic Guys. The news follows the network recently giving four-season renewals of the long-running animated shows The Simpsons, Family Guy, Bob's Burgers, and American Dad!. In the case of American Dad!, the series also is making its return to Fox after making the move from TBS, though it originally aired its first nine seasons on Fox.
Krapopolis is currently in its second season, which is concluding this month. The show, created by Dan Harmon, imagines a more zany version of ancient Greek lore where humans interact with gods and mythical creatures. It had previously been renewed through Season 4, and the new renewal by Fox will guarantee a fifth season of the show.

Fox has greenlit more seasons of three of its adult animated series: “Universal Basic Guys,” “Grimsburg,” and “Krapopolis.”
“Grimsburg” and “Universal Basic Guys” are both returning for Season 3, while “Krapopolis” has been renewed for Season 5.
“Krapopolis,” which has received a Season 5 order ahead of Season 3, “is set in mythical ancient Greece and tells the story of a dysfunctional family of humans, gods and monsters trying to run one of the world’s first cities, while also trying their best to not kill each other in the process. The series centers on Deliria (Hannah Waddingham), goddess of self-destruction and questionable choices. As petty as she is powerful, Deliria is only interested in defending civilization if it means she’ll get more worshipers out of it than her frenemies up on Mt. Olympus,” according to the official description.
Richard Ayoade, Matt Berry, Pam Murphy and Duncan Trussell also star.
