As a reviewer I tend not to follow the opinion’s of others – no matter how many people share the same opinion or how many times I’m told said opinion is true. I know that, for the most part, my taste in movies is more aligned to the audience that reads my reviews than my fellow bloggers and critics… Which is why I was willing to part with my hard-earned money to discover the truth about Dario Argento’s take on Dracula for myself.

I kind of wish I’d listened to everyone else.

Dario Argento's Dracula 3D has released a trailer.

Blade Runner legend Rutger Hauer stars as Abraham Van Helsing in the legendary Italian horror director's new film.

The movie retells the classic Bram Stoker vampire tale.

Thomas Kretschmann, Asia Argento, Marta Castini, Unax Ugaide, Miriam Giovanelli, Maria Christina Heller, Giovanni Franzoni, Augusto Zucchi, Francesco Rossini, Giuseppe Lo Console, Christian Burruano, Franco Ravera and Riccardo Cicogna also feature in the movie.

Argento is best known for his horror classic Suspiria. David Gordon Green was working on a remake of the film, but the project has apparently stalled.

Argento's Dracula 3D will debut in Us cinemas on October 4. A UK release has not been announced.

Sitting in a theater watching a fair few people walk out in protest at the poor quality of Dracula 3D, you have to wonder whether they knew anything about horror legend Dario Argento, and if so what exactly they expected from the director whose name alone guarantees an audience. Because Argento has a certain set of skills, which aren’t necessarily reconcilable with what is great about film these days, but to give due credit, he hasn’t really deviated from the same tracks for decades, and the result is generally an entertaining affair all the same.
