Almost a year after Rooster Teeth, a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery Global Streaming & Interactive Entertainment, announced it was ceasing operations after 21 years, the digital content brand is staging a comeback.
Rooster Teeth co-founder Burnie Burns announced Wednesday that he has acquired “the Rooster Teeth brand and much of its remaining assets” through his independent company, Box Canyon Productions. The company has not responded to Deadline’s inquiry whether the acquired assets include the Rooster Teeth library and The Roost Podcast Network.
Along with the acquisition, Box Canyon revealed a 2025 slate, “including renewed production of some of the platform’s classic shows, a new original audio adventure Again, and an untitled reimagining of Burns’ first film The Schedule.”
The company would not elaborate on what shows are being revived. Some of Rooster Teeth’s most popular titles include Red vs Blue, Rwby and Gen:lock.

Rooster Teeth is back.
Almost exactly a year ago, the Austin-based media company–responsible for some of the internet’s earliest and most well-known digital video brands, plus major Western animes like Rwby and gen:lock–announced its closure after 21 years of operation.
“Since inheriting ownership and control of Rooster Teeth from AT&T following its acquisition of TimeWarner, Warner Bros. Discovery continued its investment in our company, content and community,” Rooster Teeth’s former General Manager, Jordan Levin, said at the time. “Now however, it’s with a heavy heart I announce that Rooster Teeth is shutting down due to challenges facing digital media resulting from fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising, and patronage.”
The closure laid off 150 staff plus dozens of contractors and freelancers, and put an end to a company that helped shape digital media, especially on YouTube.

Rooster Teeth hit hard by Warner Bros. Discovery cost-cutting as digital media company closes down. Rooster Teeth's closure follows a series of unpopular Wbd decisions, beginning with the cancellation of the Batgirl movie in 2022. Negotiations are ongoing for the sale of Rooster Teeth content like Rwby, Red vs. Blue, and Gen:Lock, while the Roost podcast network continues for now.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s continued efforts to cut costs has claimed another victim with the closure of Rooster Teeth. The digital media company known for its gaming, fandom, and comedy content, announced its shutdown after more than two decades following Wbd's failed attempts to sell the unprofitable concern to a new owner. In a statement, the company said:
Warner Bros. Discovery thanks Rooster Teeth’s groundbreaking creators and partners, and the strong management team, for their many years of success. Your passionate and loyal fans are testament to your achievements.

Around 150 staff are being affected, plus dozens of contractors and freelancers. Listen guys, I hate to be the ones to break this to you, but I don’t think Pax South is going to happen anytime soon. I know, please try to restrain your shock. However, a new challenger to the crown may have arrived. Rooster Teeth Expo (Rtx) will be making it’s presence known in the convention scene in Austin, Texas come July 7-8th.
Rooster Teeth, the guys behind Red vs Blue, have already announced that Halo 4 will be having its first public multiplayer demo as well as featuring exhibitions from indie developers Twisted Pixel and Robot Entertainment and panels featuring internet darlings such as Mega64 and Freddie Wong.
This is the first year Rtx will be open to the public, and it’s looking to be a great alternative from what we’ve come to expect from gaming conventions. Rtx is promising to be a more relaxed...
