‘Minnie’s Midnight Massacre’ – Minnie Mouse Gets Her Own Public Domain Horror Movie
Image
With Disney’s animated short Steamboat Willie now in the public domain, horror filmmakers are free to do whatever they want with the characters. The most notable film of the bunch thus far is Screamboat starring David Howard Thornton as a killer Steamboat Willie, but it’s certainly not the only Mickey Mouse-inspired horror movie to come along in recent months.

But this next horror project to spawn from the public domain status of Steamboat Willie is taking a different approach. Minnie Mouse becomes a slasher in Minnie’s Midnight Massacre.

Deadline brings us a first look image from Minnie’s Midnight Massacre this week, announcing that filming just wrapped up last week on the upcoming low budget indie horror effort.

Director Brett Bentman’s film sees Steamboat Willie’s first mate, Minnie, go on a killing spree when seeking revenge against the childhood bullies who tortured her as a teenager.

Image
Actor Sydney Sweeney has shined in films and TV shows across several genres, including drama, horror, romance, and comedy. With her performances in projects like Euphoria, Immaculate, Anyone but You, and The White Lotus, Sweeney has proven herself to be one of modern Hollywood's most versatile actors. She recently dabbled more in sci-fi with her role in Madame Web, and the genre may be the next big step in her acting career.

Sci-fi continues to be one of the most popular and successful genres in the film industry, with Dune: Part Two being one of the most successful movies of 2024. Given the right sci-fi project, Sweeney could turn into an even bigger star by becoming the new face of the genre. Fortunately, Sweeney seems to have found the perfect role for her as the lead in Barbarella, a remake of the so bad it's good cult movie Barbarella from 1968 that...

Actor M Emmet Walsh Dies, Aged 88
Image
One of cinema's most prolific and cherished character actors has died just short of his 89th birthday. M. Emmet Walsh, memorable in so many films including Blade Runner, Blood Simple and more recently, Knives Out, was 88 when he died on Tuesday.

Born in 1935 in Ogdensburg, New York, Walsh was raised in Vermont. He kicked off his acting career in typical fashion, with guest roles in TV series in the 1960s and 70s, but unlike some of his peers, he continued to juggle big and small screen gigs throughout his life. He had a personal credo about the work: "I approach each job thinking it might be my last, so it better be the best work possible. I want to be remembered as a working actor. I’m being paid for what I’d do for nothing."

Cinematically, he got his start via uncredited roles in the likes of Midnight Cowboy,...

All 20 Smallville Superhero Suits, Ranked
Image
Smallville brought numerous superheroes from the DC Comics to life, with each season introducing new superhero suits. Some superhero suits in Smallville were low effort, such as Cyborg and Aquaman, while others were commendable attempts, like Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Some of the best superhero suits in Smallville include the costumes worn by Tom Welling as his pre-Superman identity of the Blur.

Smallville's long, 10-season run allowed the DC series to feature many characters from the comics, and all kinds of superhero suits came with them. Long before James Gunn's DC Universe, the old Dceu, or even the Arrowverse, was Smallville. Tom Welling led Smallville's 10 seasons, with his Clark Kent going from a boy to a bona fide hero. Clark had the company of exciting Smallville original characters and players right from the pages of DC Comics.

Many classic superheroes appeared throughout the series, with every season of...
