The Voice Playoffs, Night 2, Recap: Things Can Only Get Better
Blake Shelton
The same as I suspect we all did, I tuned in to Tuesday’s Night 2 of The Voice’s Season 13 Playoffs with some trepidation. And by “some trepidation,” I mean “a whole hell of a lot of trepidation.” A few of Monday’s performances were so godawful — and included one that garnered what I believe was my first-ever F grade — it was like watching American Horror Story: Talent Show. And the coach’s decisions… oh my Lorde, what were they thinking? Jennifer Hudson sabotaged Chris Weaver with a lackluster song that derailed his freight train and allowed her to...

Marc Anthony’s Newest Girlfriend Shares Photo of Their ‘Relaxing Monday’
With fans wondering if Marc Anthony and girlfriend Raffaella Modugno had put an end to their relationship, the Italian model-actress published a video alongside the salsa singer on her Instagram to shut down any rumors.

Modugno used Snapchat filters to make a video of her and Anthony relaxing on a yacht in sunny Miami, where the singer resides. With music playing in the background, the couple had a playful interaction in which they pretend to be cats.

“Relaxing Monday with my baby… #love,” the model, who splits her time between Rome and Los Angeles, captioned the post accompanied with heart emoticons and also tagging Anthony.

After a busy day on the job two years ago, firefighter Jordan Lide was relaxing with his crew mates in the open bay area of the Belmont Fire Department in Greenville, South Carolina, when he thought he heard a faint meowing sound coming from the grass behind the station.

When he went out to investigate, he discovered that the mournful cries were coming from a tiny orange-and-white kitten.

“He was malnourished and a little skittish, but he let me pick him up and as soon as I petted him just once, he was all over me,” Lide, 26, tells People. “He...

Marc Anthony has found a new girl worth fighting for!

The singer-songwriter, 49, is said to be dating Italian model-actress Raffaella Modugno.

A rep for Anthony didn’t immediately respond to People’s request for comment.

The couple first sparked romance rumors in late May when Anthony uploaded a photo to Instagram lounging with Modugno during Memorial Day weekend.

“Making memories. Happy Memorial Day weekend. Wishing you the best @raffaellamodugno #forzanapoli,” he captioned the photo.

Fuggedaboutit.

With how much publicity J.K. Rowling has been creating around Harry Potter lately, you might think she was about to surprise, Beyoncé-drop another book on us. (Which, how awesome would that be?)

Alas, the next trip to the wizarding world isn’t scheduled until 2016.

But Rowling’s Tour de Tidbits and Trivia continues, full steam ahead. Recently, she’s revealed new information about Dolores Umbridge, the baddest witch in town; said she only regrets killing one character; and clarified the fates of fan favorite characters.

News: The one Harry Potter character J.K. Rowling regrets killing off

It started with Rowling responding on Twitter to someone who wondered if there were any Jewish witches or wizards at Hogwarts. Turns out, there was:

The Beatles: 'A Hard Day’s Night' 50th Anniversary Release
50th Anniversary Release of “The Beatles: A Hard Day’s Night”

Dir. Richard Lester • U.K. 1964 • Black & White • 1.75:1 • 87 minutes

New 4K Restoration from the Original Camera Negative

New 5.1 Surround Mix Produced by Giles Martin

Opening in theaters on July 4, 2014 in almost 100 cities

Courtesy of Janus Films

This is a Cheeky, Raucous, Irreverent film that will make most warm-blooded mammals laugh from the first scene, until the last! It is brilliant for a summer night out!

If you are a film or music fan, you most likely have already seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, however, make a summertime date with the famous Fab Four, and see it again on the big screen, with the new restoration, at an art house cinema, and you really can’t go wrong.

It is necessary to give accolades to the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley, because, “if it weren’t for Elvis, there would never have been any Beatles.” John Lennon had admitted, that from the moment he first learned about Elvis and saw all the attention that he was receiving, he wanted to be just like him.

So although, there is no denying that the Beatles changed music forever, it was really Elvis who was the King of their inspiration.

For those who have not seen “A Hard Day’s Night” before, the Beatles had already been a popular recording act, with several Top 20 hits in the U.K., when they arrived in NYC to perform on the Ed Sullivan show on February 7, 1964. A record breaking 73 million viewers tuned in, and the British invasion began.

One month later, across the pond, the film was in the works. The music lover and film producer, Walter Shenson, was brought on by United Artists. Shenson, who had previously worked with Director, Richard Lester, on “The Mouse on the Moon,” mentioned the gist of the project, and Richard jumped at the opportunity.

However, to receive the final green light, the film had to be true to the way the Beatles actually lived, and scriptwriter, Alun Owen, who wrote the television play, “No Trams to Lime Street,” which depicted Liverpool, was chosen.

The film begins with the song “A Hard Day’s Night” playing while the Fab Four are running through town trying to make it to the train station on time before their train departs. Once on board, they start a conversation with an older gentleman, who Paul comments, is his grandfather. John is cheekily trying to snort a Coke (Coca-Cola) bottle up his nose in the background, and a business man wants the train car his way demanding that the windows be closed shut. The laughs just continue from there on out, when the boys are flirting with girls, and the grandfather cunningly tells the young women that the boys are really prisoners. An acoustic version of “I Should Have Known Better” is being played on the train.

Film director, Richard Lester, “relied on improvisation rather than rehearsal, creating a freshness that was clear on-screen.” “Before we started, we knew that it would be unlikely that they could (a) learn, (b) remember, or (c) deliver with any accuracy a long speech. So the structure of the script had to be a series of one-liners,” Lester later stated, “This enabled me, in many of the scenes, to turn a camera on them and say a line to them, and they would say it back to me.”

The result, the bandmates play brilliant, clever, crafty, and smart-alicky versions of themselves.

Lester’s visual style mixed techniques from narrative films, documentary, the French New Wave, and live television to create something that felt, and was, spontaneous. “I have seen directors who write down a list of scenes for the day, and then sit back in a chair while everything is filmed according to plan. I can’t do that. I know that good films can be made this way, but it’s not for me. I have to react on the spot. There was very little structure that was planned except that we knew that we had to punctuate the film with a certain number of songs.”

Recorded at Emi Studios in Abbey Road, London, they cut “Can’t Buy Me Love,” “And I Love Her,” “I Should Have Known Better,” “Tell Me Why,” “If I Fell,” and “I’m Happy Just to Dance with You,” in only three days.

Kim Kardashian: Big Apple Blonde
Following her long flight from Lax on Tuesday, Kim Kardashian arrived in New York City yesterday (June 25) and headed straight for the hair salon.

The “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” cutie posted a series of photos to show off her blonde locks along with the caption, “It’s baaaaack!!!! #BlondeHairDontCare.”

And for those who aren’t big fans of the lighter coif, Kim made sure everyone knew it wasn’t permanent- “It’s just a wig! Looks so real though right?”

Later in the evening, Kardashian showed some love for her gal pal Lala Anthony on her birthday- “Before I go to bed I want to wish @lala a very Happy Birthday!!!! You are the most loyal friend & I thank you for all the nights we laughed so hard it hurt, we cried & listened and laughed some more!!!! Thru it all you've been a true friend! I love you!”...

Edinburgh unveils 2014 line-up
Anton Corbijn
Highlights include Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man, starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Abel Ferrara’s controversial Dsk feature Welcome To New York.

The full line-up of the 68th Edinburgh International Film Festival (Eiff) has been revealed this morning by artistic director Chris Fujiwara at Edinburgh’s Filmhouse.

New titles announced today include Anton Corbijn’s A Most Wanted Man, starring the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of his final performances that was first shown at Sundance in January.

Straight from its lively premiere in Cannes is Abel Ferrara’s controversial title Welcome To New York, inspired by the case of former Imf managing director Dominique Strauss-Kahn, starring Gérard Depardieu, which will receive its UK premiere at Eiff.

Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, and Vivian Blaine in Guys and Dolls (1955)
'The Most Happy Fella' with Cheyenne Jackson and Laura Benanti hits Encores! revival series
Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, and Vivian Blaine in Guys and Dolls (1955)
Six years after writing the classic musical Guys and Dolls, composer Frank Loesser introduced audiences to The Most Happy Fella. The show has an often lush, operatic, and nearly-sung-through score — but the book is a dated, borderline racist bit of nonsense about an Italian immigrant vineyard owner in the Napa Valley who talks-a like-a this-a and even refers to himself at one point as “a stupid, ugly, old wop.”

In other words, it’s just the sort of problematic chestnut to get a five-night-only revival this week as part of the New York City Center Encores! series, a two-decade-old program...

Boss claims the title of the No1 film in Cineworld cinemas on its preview day!
Superstar Akshay Kumar has once again retained his crown as the king of action and comedy with the portrayal of a Haryanvi character named Boss in Anthony D’Souza’s Boss, which is expected to be the original action hero’s biggest opener yet.

The film opened at the Indian and international box offices on the 16th of October 2013, with previews from the 15th October, to a phenomenal response. It also notched another impressive accolade to become the number one film across all Cineworld cinemas in the UK on its preview day beating the likes of Hollywood films The Fifth Estate and Baggage Claim, which released in cinemas on 11th October.

Akshay returns to the silver screen with a bang and packs a punch in the adrenaline-soaked Boss, which is somewhat of a departure from his previous somber portrayals in films Oh My God – Omg and Special 26. Boss proves...

What makes Akshay Kumar's Boss similar to Janbaaz? : Trade News
Though Akshay Kumar’s Anthony D’souza directed film Boss is said to be the official remake of Malayalam film Pokkiri Raja, here are few points that make us believe that Boss has shades of Feroz Khan’s boldest film Janbaaz. And what drove us to this thought was when Akshay Kumar stated that the reprised song ‘Har Kisi Ko Nahi Milta’, which is originally from the film Read More...

New From Radio Archives
August 30, 2013

CBS Radio Workshop Volume 4 The CBS Radio Workshop debuted at the end of the Age of Classic Radio, which was a time of innovation and experimentation, especially in terms of radio drama. The ten-hour Volume 4 includes “All Is Bright”, a history of the famous Christmas song; “1489 Words”, which featured the debut of later film composer Jerry Goldsmith’s “The Thunder of Imperial Names”, which was written for a concert band and was based on a text piece by Thomas Wolfe; a two-part adaptation of Frederick Pohl and Cyril M. Cornbluth’s The Space Merchants, which offers a satirical look at rampant consumerism from the viewpoint of an advertising executive; Archibald MacLeish’s “Air Raid”, the series’ only re-broadcast, which had first been written for the 1938 Columbia Workshop. Aired during the Cold War era, it took on a sinister new meaning; Henry Fritch’s “The Endless Road”, about a road...

‘Basketball Wives’ Star Evelyn Lozada Goes To Teen Prom in Plunging Gown
The reality star agreed to go to prom with a 19-year-old and she opted to wear a super low-cut, tight red dress. Do you think this was inappropriate?

Evelyn Lozada went to prom with a high school senior and she definitely brought the heat! The Basketball Wives star was invited by Anthony Nelson to attend his prom in Bloomfield, Michigan on May 29.

Evelyn Lozado Goes To Prom

Evelyn showed up to Anthony’s house wearing a shocking outfit. While everyone else looked prom ready, she opted to wear a skin-tight dress! She wore sky-high heels and she showed off her cleavage. It was so distracting!

They took a bunch of pics and then hopped into an SUV and headed to dinner. It turns out this was Evelyn’s first time to prom since she never went to her own!

“The reason why I’m so excited is because I never...

The 5 Non-"Psycho" Anthony Perkins Movies You Need To See
Anthony Perkins in Goodbye Again

Happy birthday to the man I call my Time Machine Husband (Tm), Anthony Perkins. The effete, beautiful actor best known for his astonishing performance as Norman Bates in Psycho would've been 81 today, and without even reading Charles Winecoff's gripping biography Split Image, you can tell in Mr. Perkins' performances that he was enigmatic, complicated, and conflicted. Though Perkins died of AIDS in 1992, his silver screenlegacy endures thanks to his lengthy, strange filmography.

Hollywood wanted Perkins to be the next James Dean, but his vulnerability and (frankly) apparent gayness stood at odds with that demand. As I like to say, we can't rewrite cinematic history to include all the wonderful gay characters we deserve, so we as gay entertainment anthropologists have to find our stories in the nuances, innuendos, and otherwise untold stories hidden right onscreen (perhaps unintentionally), right within all the stated heterosexuality. Though...

Clip joint: the Beatles
Help! us explore the many ways in which John, Paul, George and Ringo have influenced film, then and now

With Magical Mystery Tour getting the bells-and-whistles reissue treatment this week, here's a look back at the multifaceted and often downright bizarre impact the Beatles have made on the moving image.

1) The Beatles as Oscar-winners

Let It Be was filmed in January 1969, but remained unreleased until May 1970, by which point the band had officially announced its split. The Beatles were keen to see the film buried; they had little desire to return to this testing period in their career or to air some of the more fractious moments it contains – most famously the tiff between Paul and George ("I'll play, you know, whatever you want me to play or I won't play at all"). And yet, ultimately, they're probably happy they did. In April 1971 the Beatles picked up their one and only Academy award,...

Picture This: The Brooklyn Nets Got Deron Williams A Truck For His Birthday
Here's the note that was left under the windshield of the birthday truck the Brooklyn Nets parked in front of Williams' house:

Dear Deron,

Happy birthday! You're all grown up now... 28! It's a big one, and we got you a truck with nothing in it as a present. We need the truck back, though. Hopefully we can get Dwight Howard or something as a late gift, but we just wanted to stalk you to show you how much we care!

                                                                             Love,

                                                                                 Jay-z, Mikhail, and Billy

We'll keep you posted on whether or not this strategy works. Hint: It won't.

'Mad Men' Recap: "Commissions And Fees"
Taking notes during episodes of Mad Men has become progressively more difficult as Season 5 develops. Last night, the inevitable came to pass, the moment set up by the entire season, but I Still had problems jotting down every bit of minutiae, every set detail, every gratuitous bloody child vagina shot. This led to notes like, “@ the Barber meets Jed, big.” And that’s it. So I apologize for the incoherence of the following Crazy Crazy Suicide Episode Recap!

We open with Don at the barbershop taking some backhanded compliments from a dude named Jed or something. What we don’t realize is that Don doesn’t need to go to the barbershop because his hair cuts itself; he only goes to keep up appearances.

Meanwhile, Lane Pryce modestly and ironically accepts an appointment as the head of the fiscal control committee of the 4A’s (the American Association of Advertising Agencies). See,...

Daniel Souweine: The Discovery Channel's Shameful Self-Censorship
Last Sunday (Earth Day, no less), the Discovery Channel aired the final episode of its Frozen Planet series. Titled "On Thin Ice," the episode captures the staggering changes in our polar regions being wrought by global warming -- shrinking glaciers, rising seas, and disappearing habitats. But there was one thing missing: in 45 minutes, not a word was uttered about why all that Arctic ice is melting. In an impressive feat of journalistic malpractice, Discovery completely avoided the fact that the burning of fossil fuels causes climate change, and thanks to a New York Times article, now we know why. Discovery has admitted to censoring itself because it wanted to avoid criticism from climate change deniers. This was a shameful decision, which is why thousands of people have joined Forecast the Facts in demanding an immediate apology and an explicit commitment from Discovery to make sure it never happens again.

For those keeping score at home,...
