CBS’ “All Rise” is virtually producing an episode inspired by the ongoing global health crisis, marking the first scripted primetime series to undergo virtual production since the outbreak started.

ViacomCBS announced Monday that the Simone Missick-led series’ upcoming special episode will be influenced by social distancing and the outbreak’s impact on the criminal justice system. The episode will feature Judge Lola Carmichael (Missick) virtually presiding over a bench trial. The episode will simultaneously examine the characters’ personal lives within the series as they continue their personal and professional lives while staying indoors.

All Rise is returning to production, but not how you expected it to.

The first-year CBS procedural is prepping a virtual episode to air this season amid the global coronavirus pandemic that has brought TV production to a halt.

The episode will find stars using FaceTime, Zoom, WebEx, and other social media and technology to bring an episode to life in what will be the first scripted drama to return to production.

The installment will zero in on how how the pandemic and social distancing are having an effect on the criminal justice system, and is set to air Monday, May 4 at 9 pm.

As expected, the episode will be filmed from the homes of the series regulars to allow for social distancing measures to remain in place.

Producers will use VFX to craft the necessary backgrounds.

The legal drama starring Simone Missick will film its stars using FaceTime, WebEx, Zoom, and other available social media and online technology to produce an episode about how the pandemic and social distancing are impacting the criminal justice system. It is scheduled to air May 4 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

Virtual footage will be shot in each of the series regular’s homes, and producers plan to use VFX to create the necessary backgrounds. In addition, a cinematographer operating solo from a vehicle will capture exterior footage that reflects the desolate environment that currently exists on the streets and in the neighborhoods of Los Angeles. The entire episode will be shot abiding by social distancing rules and technologies taking place in the world as it exists now.

After late-night and daytime talk shows one by one returned to television with remotely produced episodes amid the coronavirus outbreak, we have the first primetime scripted series to embark on virtual production to make a fresh episode reflecting the current realities while complying with the rules of social distancing.

CBS’ freshman drama “All Rise” will return to production and remotely film a new episode that will incorporate the current coronavirus pandemic.

The episode will be filmed remotely using video conferencing tools like FaceTime, WebEx and Zoom. CBS says the episode will be inspired by current events and will see the characters managing their “new normal” of everyday reality at home, in order to continue their professional and personal lives. The show’s consulting producer Gil Garcetti, a former Los Angeles County District Attorney and father of current mayor Eric Garcetti, is providing insight into how the criminal justice system is managing itself during the current pandemic.

The episode will air on Monday, May 4 in the show’s normal 9 p.m. timeslot.

Gil Garcetti, the prosecutor whose office failed to win a double murderer conviction against Oj Simpson, says Simpson’s current 33-year-sentence for armed robbery is too long. Who knew that by the time we were this deep into the current and rapidly evolving Golden Age of TV, O.J. Simpson would suddenly re-emerge -- arguably now in his third cycle -- as one of the preeminent, and perpetually relevant, figures in television history.

Yet here we are, with -- this time around -- irrefutable evidence. First it was compellingly dramatized, and now it's been exquisitely documented in "O.J.: Made in America."

As I was pondering how I could kick off this debut television column for Moviefone, just as fresh episodes of many of the most popular series of the moment have gone or are about to go on hiatus, I got my first glimpse at this powerful, impressive, and affecting documentary that prompted me to consider just how crucial TV was, and has been, and very likely will be in the perceptions we have about O.J. Simpson.

Marcia Clark's pigheadedness cost her the trial ... so claims the man who ran the office and regrets tapping her for the assignment. Gil Garcetti, who served as L.A. County D.A. during the trial, says the dialogue in the TV series is just made up and misleading.  He told the NY Post Clark would not listen to the jury consultants who warned her not to put African American women -- particularly mothers -- on the jury.

The seventh installment of FX's The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story aired Tuesday night, and there is a major issue within, and it's not the gloves, according to the reporter who most closely covered the 1995 trial. The verdict is in. Bruce Greenwood, who plays La District Attorney Gil Garcetti (as pictured above) on the FX drama, American Crime Story: The People Vs Oj Simpson, has been cast in the Four Stars TV series pilot at CBS. Greenwood played Dr. Emmett Cole on The River TV series, which was cancelled by ABC in 2012, after one season of eight hour-long episodes.

In Four Stars, Greenwood will play General Buckley, a four-star General in the United States Army. Buckley is the patriarch of one of the two military families featured in this drama pilot. He joins Wilmer Valderrama, Ashley Zukerman, and Ana Kayne, who were cast, previously.

After spinning a yarn on American Horror Story, writer, producer and showrunner Ryan Murphy is swapping the gothic corridors of FX’s acclaimed drama for the courtroom with February’s anthology series, American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson.

Serving as executive producer on the miniseries, Murphy will help bring the infamous court case of O.J. Simpson to the small screen. That’s a role to be filled by Cuba Gooding Jr., and today’s one-minute snippet showcases the star-studded ensemble that the network has pulled together. Aiming to offer a more conclusive verdict on the historic trial – which at one point included Kris Jenner and Robert Kardashian – FX has promised to tell the untold story of the 1995 case, though exactly how much the limited series can disclose will be told in time.

It wasn't enough for O.J. Simpson that prosecutors bungled his murder case and allowed him to be free for more years than he should have ... he also called the D.A. who prosecuted him an "a**hole" ... and it's all on tape.

We've obtained footage of Simpson, shot 5 years ago for a documentary -- which shows O.J. driving through Brentwood -- the L.A. area where he slaughtered Ron Goldman and Nicole Brown Simpson back in 1994.

In one of the clips, O.J. points out the home of former District Attorney Gil Garcetti and screams, "A**hole!"

A celebration of the phenomenon that is "American Idol" will kick off the 24th annual William S. Paley Television Festival, presented March 1-15 in Los Angeles by the Museum of Television & Radio.

This year's festival plans include an evening with "Star Wars" guru George Lucas on March 3 and panel sessions on NBC's "The Office" and "Heroes", ABC's "Brothers and Sisters" and "Ugly Betty", CBS' "Jericho", TNT's "The Closer", Showtime's "Dexter", FX's "Nip/Tuck" and Fox's "Prison Break".

The Paley Festival will close with a tribute to Fox's enduring animated comedy "The Simpsons" on the occasion of its landmark 400th episode. The night will include a preview of the show's upcoming summer theatrical release, "The Simpsons Movie".

"By connecting actors, directors, producers, media personalities, and TV fans in engaging public forums, (the museum) continues to drive the discussion about the creative and social relevance of television and emerging media in today's world," MT&R president Pat Mitchell said in announcing this year's lineup.

All Paley Festival events will be held at the DGA Theater in Hollywood.
