Dolly Parton Doesn’t Plan on Retiring: “I’ll Just Hopefully Drop Dead on Stage”
Image
Health permitting, Dolly Parton has no plans to retire. The country legend rebuffed the idea of hanging up her hat in a recent UK radio interview, proclaiming that she intends to perform until the end of her life.

“I’m not one to sit around doing nothing,” Parton told host Ken Bruce, discussing her upcoming rock album and fashion book. “I would never retire. I’ll just hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday.”

“Of course, we don’t have much of a choice in that,” Parton conceded. “But as long as I’m able to work, as long as my health is good and my husband is good, the only way that I would ever slow down or stop would be for that reason. But in the meantime, I’m gonna make hay while the sun shines.”

That hay includes Rockstar, an album comprised...

Dolly Parton Says She Would Rather ‘Drop Dead Onstage’ Than Opt For Retirement
Image
Dolly Parton‘s not leaving the stage any time soon. In fact, when it comes to retirement, the 77-year-old country star would rather “drop dead” onstage instead of planning her last curtain call.

The Jolene singer shared her feelings about retirement while on the Greatest Hits Radio show, telling host Ken Bruce that there’s a responsibility that comes with realizing one’s biggest dreams.

“I always believe that if you’ve wanted your dreams to come true and you are lucky enough to have that happen, then you’ve got to be responsible because you gotta keep the dream alive,” she explained. “And every dream kind of spawns another dream. You can branch off of almost anything that happens and make a business of that as well. So it’s kind of like a tree with good roots — it’s got a lot of limbs and it’s also got a lot of leafs.

A scene at the end ofYellowjackets’ latest episode was so gory that it caused several castmembers to throw up while filming it.

The hit Showtime drama returned to screens on 26 March, with the second episode in the series, “Edible Complex”, airing last night (2 April) on Paramount Plus.

Steve McQueen says people will be ‘disturbed’ by his Grenfell film
Image
Steve McQueen has warned that people may be “disturbed” by his new film, Grenfell, which will be shown at London’s Serpentine Gallery next month.

The 12 Years a Slave director made the 24-minute film six months after the June 2017 fire at Grenfell Tower in North Kensington, in which 72 people died.

After garnering the support of the bereaved, survivors and other locals, McQueen took off in a helicopter from the north-west in December of that year and flew towards the tower, directing the whole piece in a single shot.

The film sees McQueen’s camera repeatedly circle the council block, offering viewers a look inside rooms where people died. Forensic investigators can be seen in the footage, sifting through the site.

Speaking to The Guardian about the film, McQueen said: “You must understand that the violence that was inflicted on that community was no joke. I didn’t want to let people off the hook.

‘This is going to disrupt the music industry completely’: AI-generated Kanye West verse goes viral
Image
A video showing how AI can put an approximation of any musician’s voice on any piece of music has gone viral, with some fans predicting that the technology will “disrupt the music industry completely”.

AI expert Roberto Nickson posted the video, which uses Kanye West’s AI-generated voice, on Twitter, saying: “All you have to do is record reference vocals and replace them with a trained model of any musician you like…

“I found this Kanye-style beat on YouTube, I wrote eight bars, I’m gonna record them now and then I’m gonna have AI Kanye replace me.”

After playing the verse, which could be convincing enough to fool many into thinking that it was in fact West rapping, Nickson tells viewers: “That’s crazy, right? And keep in mind, this is the worst that AI will ever be. In just a few years, basically every popular musician...

Ken Bruce says he ‘wasn’t being difficult’ about BBC exit
Image
Ken Bruce has given his first interview since his exit from BBC Radio 2.

The veteran broadcaster, 72, left the station earlier this month, after hosting its mid-morning show for 31 years.

He is moving to commercial station Greatest Hits Radio, with a new show launching there on 3 April. Vernon Kay, 48, is stepping into Bruce’s shoes to host Radio 2’s mid-morning programme.

In February, Bruce revealed that BBC bosses had asked him to leave three weeks earlier than planned, instead of continuing until 24 March, when his contract ended.

Reports at the time suggested that this decision was made in an effort to stop him from publicising his new Greatest Hits show on Radio 2.

In a new interview with The Times, Bruce has now said of the enforced early exit: “I was annoyed because I thought, ‘I’m reasonable. I’m not being difficult. Neither were you…’ I think the idea...

‘Discourteous and disrespectful’: Vanessa Feltz hits out at BBC over alleged handling of Ken Bruce exit
Image
Vanessa Feltz has hit out at the BBC over its alleged handling of Ken Bruce’s departure from Radio 2.

Legendary broadcaster Bruce, who has been at the station since 1984, announced his departure from presenting the mid-morning show in January, with his last show due to take place at the end of March.

However, in February, Bruce said that he would actually be finishing on the show the following Friday (3 March), with the presenter claiming that “the BBC has decided it wants me to leave earlier”.

In a new interview, Feltz – who herself left the BBC last year after nearly 20 years – branded the alleged circumstances surrounding Bruce’s exit “bewildering”.

“After this incredibly long and amazingly distinguished career, to oust Ken Bruce two or three weeks before he was expecting to go and before his contract had actually played itself out, I thought that was incredibly discourteous and disrespectful and unnecessary,...

BBC Radio 2 faces ‘cheating scandal’ after quiz contestant accused of ‘Googling’ answers live on air

Former Top of The Pops presenter Gary Davies is temporarily covering the show until Vernon Kay will take over Radio 2’s mid-morning show in May.

Just days after the launch of Davies’ slot and his new pop quiz, on Thursday (9 March) listeners have theorised that one contestant, competing under the name “Shiela”, allegedly cheated after she finished the quiz with a perfect score of 65.

As part of the duty of care in place for the drama, which was written by Neil McKay and produced by Jeff Pope, the production invited numerous survivors to the set in an attempt to convince them of the responsibility they felt in ensuring the story was told sensitively.

One survivor, Sam Brown, has now revealed what it was like seeing Coogan in character as Savile. Brown was repeatedly abused by Savile as a child.

She told Deadline she knew she would be approached by Coogan after he had finished filming a scene in Cheshire, but was not prepared for the “powerful” reaction she’d have to seeing him.

Steven Spielberg names the one movie he’s made that he thinks is ‘pretty perfect’
Image
Even Steven Spielberg has to admit that one of his films is “pretty perfect”.

The director has made 34 films since 1971, many of which are considered classics. These include Jaws, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

However, Spielberg says that he finds it tought to re-watch his movies – but there’s one he has revisisted that he knows is undeniably excellent.

“I don’t look a lot at my movies after I’ve made them,” he told The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, adding: “I don’t look back too often but every once in a while I’ll see a movie with my kids.”

He explained that he wanted to “comfort my kids when they watched Et for the first time,” adding: “I don’t want them to see Et without dad sitting there – especially with the scary parts at the beginning.”

Ken Bruce final Radio 2 show – as it happened: DJ says goodbye as fans and fellow stars share emotional tributes
Image
Ken Bruce aired his last ever BBC Radio 2 show today, Friday 3 March, after 31 years of presenting the station’s mid-morning programme.

Bruce, 72, has been with the BBC since 1977 when he started out as a presenter on Radio Scotland.

While introducing his final show on Radio 2 this morning, he told listeners not to look for any “hidden agendas” in his music choices, assuring them: “They’re just good songs. Enjoy!”

The DJ is moving over to commercial station Greatest Hits Radio, where he will begin broadcasting on 3 April.

In February, Bruce claimed that BBC bosses had decided they wanted him to leave early, instead of fulfilling his contract to the end of March.

Reports followed that he was axed early by the BBC in efforts to prevent him from promoting his new Greatest Hits show.

Find out everything that happened on Bruce’s final Radio 2 show below...

Daisy Jones & The Six viewers ‘emotional’ over ‘genius’ Elvis Easter egg
Image
Prime Video has just premiered its highly anticipated series Daisy Jones & The Six, and fans have already spotted a subtle Easter egg relating to Elvis Presley.

The streamer’s adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s best-selling 2019 novel stars Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough as eclectic musician Daisy Jones.

Set in the Seventies, the 10-episode miniseries uncovers the truth behind the downfall of the fictional rock band Daisy Jones & The Six.

Following the release of its first three episodes on Thursday (2 March), one keen-eyed viewer recognised a sweet nod to the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

“Spoiler Alert – in episode two of Daisy Jones, looks to me like Riley is wearing the same pattern guitar strap as Elvis in the ‘68 Comeback Special,” they tweeted, alongside an attached side-by-side of Keough and Elvis.

“Oh Wow This Is Genius,” one person said. A second commented: “Oh so they want to cause me emotional damage.

Jeremy Vine calls Ken Bruce the ‘best’ person he’s ever worked with during emotional appearance on last show
Image
Jeremy Vine appeared on Ken Bruce’s last ever BBC Radio 2 show to tell the presenter how much he will miss working with him.

The exchange came as part of an emotional final episode for Bruce, with a host of fans calling in with heartfelt messages for the outgoing presenter.

“I was working it out, and you and I talk for three minutes a day… So that’s 10 hours a year, meaning over 20 years it’s 200 hours I haven’t been paid,” Vine joked.

“You’re saving the BBC a lot of money there… somehow it feels longer!” Bruce replied.

Bruce has hosted Radio 2’s mid-morning show for 31 years, and has been with the BBC since 1977.

He is set to move to commercial station Greatest Hits Radio, with a new show launching on 3 April.

During the show, Vine addressed his friend in earnest. “I’ll miss you so much,...

Sex/Life season 2 features Nsfw moment to rival that season 1 shower scene
Image
Sex/Life has returned for its second season – and there’s one moment that’s sure to get viewers talking as much as that season one shower scene.

The drama, which was first released on Netflix in 2021, followed Billie (Sarah Shahi), a restless married woman who begins reminiscing about her former lover Brad (Adam Demos).

The show became known for its explicit sex scenes and nudity, with one particularly talked-about scene occurring when Brad is changing at the gym and the camera shows his penis.

Season two arrived on the platform on Thursday (2 March), with one scene in episode six raising eyebrows for similar reasons.

In the scene, Billie’s husband Devon (Mike Vogel) is in the gym changing room with his colleague Devon (Jonathan Sadowski), who is talking about his recent penis reconstruction surgery.

Devon, who is a swinger, needed the operation as he was receiving oral sex when he...

Ken Bruce’s departure signals the start of an era Radio 2 listeners never wanted
Image
It’s a sad day for Radio 2 listeners. Today, Ken Bruce is leaving the mid-morning slot he’s occupied for three decades. Never a showy broadcaster – like Terry Wogan before him, he identifies as a shy man – the 72-year-old Scot was an avuncular anchor in the day. To hear that he had decided to leave came as a shock. The mood curdled when it transpired Radio 2 bosses had refused to let him work out his contract, insisting he get his slippers out from under the desk by lunchtime today.

“It’s entirely within the BBC’s right to ask me to step away a little early,” he told Radio 4’s Today programme. “But for the sake of 17 days, which was all that was remaining [on my contract], it seems a shame.” He pointed out that he’d stuck to an old-school work ethic that meant that “over the last 46 years, I haven...

John Peel Stage at Glastonbury Festival to be renamed after 18 years
Image
Glastonbury’s Emily Eavis has revealed that the John Peel Stage has been renamed after almost 20 years.

The news arrives at the same time as the remaining headliners for the 2023 festival were announced, with Guns N’ Roses and Arctic Monkeys joining Elton John on the billing.

Eavis discussed the “pipeline” problems related to the all-male headliners, as well as an overarching 53 per cent male lineup so far.

In an interview with The Guardian, Eavis also disclosed that the John Peel Stage, which replaced the previous named New Bands Tent in 2005, will now be called Woodsies.

Eavis said the decision was part of a push to name stages after the fields they stand in, such as West Holts and Silver Hayes.

“We’ve had 20 years of John Peel and it’s been an honour to use his name,” she said.

Last year, a petition was launched to rename the stage after...

Harry Potter star Evanna Lynch says she ‘wishes people would just listen to Jk Rowling’
Image
A Harry Potter star has jumped to the defence of Jk Rowling.

For years now, the author has courted contoversy with her views on transgender rights.

It appeared to start in June 2020 when she called out an article’s use of the phrase “people who menstruate”.

This tweet divided Twitter users. While there was a contingent who supported Rowling, there were many – including numerous celebrities – who criticised her comment as “anti-trans” and “transphobic”, arguing that transgender, non-binary and non-gender conforming people can also menstruate.

In an essay, the author addressed the backlash while also detailing her experiences of surviving alleged domestic abuse and sexual assault.

The essay sparked further criticism and many actors from the Harry Potter franchise, including Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, have since voiced their support for trans people.

Now, Luna Lovegood star Evanna Lynch has shared her views on the mater. At the time,...

Jenna Ortega says she was ‘devastated’ she didn’t return to Netflix’s You in season 4
Image
Jenna Ortega has said she was “devastated” not to return to You in its fourth season.

The 20-year-old actor was unable to appear in the latest episodes of the hit Netflix serial killer drama due to her starring role in Wednesday.

In season two of You, released in 2019, Ortega played Ellie Alves, the 15-year-old sister of Delilah (Carmela Zumbado).

Series showrunner Sera Gamble recently revealed that she had wanted Ortega to return in season four, but the actor’s commitment to Wednesday posed too many scheduling problems.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Ortega described her disappointment at being unable to reprise her You role.

“I was devastated,” she said. “It was easily one of my favorite sets that I’ve ever, ever been on. I was so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday.

Emily Eavis says Arctic Monkeys and Guns N’ Roses will play Glastonbury – but addresses all-male headliners
Image
The Glastonbury 2023 headliners have been announced by Emily Eavis.

The festival’s co-organiser shared the news in an article discussing “pipeline” problems related to the all-male headlining line-up.

Joining Elton John will be Arctic Monkeys on the Friday, headlining for their third time, with Guns N’ Roses playing the Saturday slot.

Eavis said that Guns N’ Roses replaced a female singer who “changed her touring plans”.

While Eavis didn’t name names, it’s strongly suspected she was alluding to Taylor Swift, who was originally set to perform in 2020 when the festival was cancelled due to Covid.

However, Eavis expressed excitement about the “Sweet Child O’ Mine” rockers’ Glastonbury debut, telling The Guardian: “They’ll be brilliant and provide something totally different to the rest of the headliners.”

She said that Lizzo will “open” for the band, with the “About Damn Time” singer receiving joint headline billing on the poster.

Ken Bruce axed early by BBC to prevent him promoting his new Greatest Hits show, say insiders
Image
Ken Bruce’s contract with BBC Radio 2 has been axed early in efforts to scupper promotion for his new show at Greatest Hits Radio, according to insiders.

In January, Bruce announced he would leave the corporation after 45 years to host a show on commercial rival, Greatest Hits Radio.

The veteran presenter, 72, has been on the BBC station since 1984, but told listeners in January: “I’ve done everything it is possible to do at Radio 2.”

In February, he then told his Twitter followers that, while he had intended to fulfil his contract to the end of March, the corporation had decided “it wants me to leave earlier” and his last show will be Friday 3 March.

The decision has been taken to stifle Bruce’s self-promotion ahead of him joining the Bauer-owned station from 3 April, according to sources who spoke to The Times.

“Ken has been treated appallingly after his many years of service,...

Radio 2 DJ Scott Mills misses holiday after getting locked in car for five hours
Image
Scott Mills has revealed that he had to cancel a holiday after being locked in his electric car for five hours.

The BBC Radio 2 DJ shared the unfortunate anecdote with listeners during Monday’s (27 February) instalment of his radio show.

Mills had set off on Friday, with his fiancé, Sam Vaughan, intending to spend the weekend together in Amsterdam.

However, a flat car battery meant that Mills and Vaughan were stuck inside his car near the BBC’s Wogan House studios.

“I’ve had quite the weekend,” he said. “I said goodbye to you on Friday. Me and Sam agreed to head to the airport in my electric car at 4pm. Flight is at 8pm.

“Get in the car. Car doesn’t start. In fact, nothing works. I go to get out of the car. I can’t get out. Sam tries his door. Nothing. Also cannot leave the car.

BBC edits Sabrina Carpenter’s Live Lounge video to remove ‘porn reference’
Image
The BBC has edited a Live Lounge performance from Sabrina Carpenter after the singer made what appeared to be a reference to a porn trope.

Carpenter appeared on BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge last week. The former Disney Channel star sang her hit song “Nonsense”.

A recording of the performance was uploaded to the broadcaster’s YouTube channel, including Carpenter’s original riff at the end of the track.

“How quickly can you take your clothes off, pop quiz. I’m American, I am not British so BBC, it stands for something different,” she sings. “This live lounge is so lit because I’m in it, innit.”

As noticed by Deadline, the BBC has since removed this version of the video and replaced it with another clip, in which the outro has been cut out.

While the acronym BBC in the UK is commonly associated with the British Broadcasting Corporation,...

Paul O’Grady expresses ‘disappointment’ with BBC Radio 2: ‘It’s not what it was’
Image
Paul O’Grady has expressed his “disappointment” with BBC Radio 2, saying “it’s not what it was”.

The broadcaster’s comments come after the news that veteran DJ Ken Bruce was leaving the station after 45 years to go to Greatest Hits Radio.

InJanuary, when Bruce announced his departure, former Radio 2 DJ Vanessa feltz accused the BBC of “ageism”.

Now, O’Grady, who left Radio 2 in 2021 after being asked to share his slot with comedian Rob Beckett, has explained the motivation behind his decision.

“I was disappointed, because I’m a great believer in continuity,” he told Metro.co.uk, adding: “If you go off for 13 weeks and somebody else comes on, the listeners don’t know when you’re back on.”

He continued: “Radio 2 has changed; it’s not what it was. They’re trying to aim for a much younger audience, which doesn’t make sense because you’ve got Radio 1.
