A Dance in the Snow Review: Navigating Neurodiversity in Holiday Storytelling
Image
In Hallmark’s latest release, A Dance in the Snow, we follow Melanie, a devoted single mother, and her autistic teenage daughter, Jenny. The film expertly navigates the complexities of their relationship as Christmas approaches, showcasing their unique difficulties and desires.

While planning a surprise holiday celebration to honour her mother, Jenny, a high school senior with dreams bigger than her little town, struggles with sensory triggers. This major plot highlights the complexities of their relationship. It emphasizes neurodiversity, an increasingly important issue in Hallmark’s expanding narrative environment.

In recent years, Hallmark has made remarkable advances toward inclusive storytelling, moving away from the formulaic tales of old. A Dance in the Snow exemplifies this transition, reflecting a broader cultural trend that strives to promote voices frequently underrepresented in mainstream media.

It embraces the idea that love and celebration can manifest in various ways, pushing traditional holiday narratives to include...

Ace & Nancy's Fates In Nancy Drew Series Finale Ending Explained By Director
Image
Warning: The following article contains spoilers from Nancy Drew season 4, episode 13

Nancy and Ace end up together in the series finale of Nancy Drew, acknowledging that they can't be apart. Director Amanda Row wanted to capture the special moment between Nancy and Ace by keeping the framing still and echoing a previous conversation. The fate of Nancy Drew and Ace is explained by the series finale director. Returning for its farewell outing, Nancy Drew promised to bow out with its signature blend of spooky scares and romantic conflict. The show's final episode, "The Light Between Lives", delivers both in spades. In the end, Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and Ace (Alex Saxon) end up together. But the journey to get to that point came with a few sacrifices,...

The 100 Prequel Cast Details: Who’s in the Potential Spinoff?
Christopher Larkin, Devon Bostick, Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Marie Avgeropoulos, and Thomas McDonell in The 100 (2014)
While we have yet to find out if The 100 prequel will be picked up as a proper series, we got a sneak peek into what this show would look like in this week’s episode of The 100, which acted as a backdoor pilot for the potential spinoff. Perhaps most importantly, we were introduced to the characters who we would be spending more time with should the show get the greenlight. Let’s dive into who they are and the actors who play them.

Iola Evans as Callie

In backdoor pilot “Anaconda,” we met Callie, an MIT dropout and activist who disagrees with her fathers politics and use of power. When nuclear apocalypse comes, Callie reluctantly goes with her family into the Second Dawn bunker, but chafes against the power structure from the get-go. When Becca is killed by Callie’s father, Bill Cadogan, Callie takes the 2,000 doses of...

The 100 Prequel: Would Any of The 100 Cast Crossover ?
Anaconda (1997)
The following contains spoilers for The 100 backdoor pilot episode “Anaconda.”

The 100’s backdoor pilot episode “Anaconda” sets up the premise for The CW’s potential prequel series by centering the conflict on a polarizing, post-apocalyptic family: the Cadogans. Cult leader Bill (John Pyper-Ferguon) was already known to viewers, but the episode filled in more of his character, placing him firmly at the Russell Lightbourne end of the spectrum for bad dads on The 100. The heart of the series, however, belongs to his daughter Calliope (Iola Evans), who with her mother Gemma (Crystal Balint) escaped the Second Dawn cult twice over—first before the apocalypse, and again once Becca Franco (Erica Cerra) provided them with the means to survive in the irradiated world.

By the end of the pilot, Becca is burned at the stake, while Callie takes the Flame and a ragtag band of newly-Nightblooded bunker teens out to...

Anaconda (1997)
The 100 Season 7 Episode 8 Review: Anaconda
Anaconda (1997)
This The 100 review contains spoilers

The 100 Season 7 Episode 8

Anaconda is almost entirely a backdoor pilot for a prequel spinoff set during and shorty after the first end of the world, over on dear old planet Earth. It rewrites the Grounder origin story and answers some questions you probably never had about the Second Dawn from way back in season 3, but mostly it’s great to see Becca in action again, to catch some early show Easter eggs, and to meet a couple of compelling new characters who are actually trying to do the right thing, however hard that might be on a post-apocalyptic Earth. Sound familiar? Let’s dive in.

Cadogan’s story only occasionally explains how and why he is on Bardo, though of course the setup for these things is so rarely why they’re actually happening. Perhaps the biggest flaw is Cadogan himself. That this story is...

‘The Intruder’ DVD Review
Stars: Meagan Good, Dennis Quaid, Michael Ealy, Erica Cerra, Joseph Sikora, Alvina August, Debs Howard, Lili Sepe, Lee Shorten, Carolyn Anderson, Caroline Muthoni Muita, Kurt Evans | Written by David Loughery | Directed by Deon Taylor

The Intruder, directed by Deon Taylor, is the latest conventional haunted house thriller tale that has a big bark but no bite. Denis Quaid stars as Charlie Peck, who sells his property to Annie and Scott Russell, played by Meagan Good and Michael Ealy, and slowly becomes obsessed with the couple. Begins to blur the lines of a psychopath and friendly neighbour.

Taylor’s recent effort had firm hopes to impress with a haunting trailer that wonderfully captured the dread and terror that such a thriller film should provoke. It is a rather tragic set of events that proceed the Sony logo, however, as the next one hundred and fifteen-minutes result in in a dull and often disastrous stifled thriller,...

Deadly Class Episode 3 Review: Snake Pit
Despite some enjoyable character moments in this week’s Deadly Class, the overall story is becoming dangerously cluttered.

TV

This Deadly Class review contains spoilers.

Deadly Class Season 1 Episode 3

After last week’s stellar episode of Deadly Class, one would think that the continued philosophical musings of “Snake Pit” would fit right in with the admirable character development for Marcus (and Lin somewhat) in the previous episode. Instead, this week’s episode was a writhing mass of pithy snippets worthy of the episode’s title, creating moments of insight among a series of scenes which, although they may introduce elements that will be explored in future episodes, go nowhere. There’s a sense that perhaps Deadly Class is taking itself too seriously too early.

The introduction of new teachers, though undeniably fun, is one such disconnected piece of the puzzle. As nice as it was to see Chris Heyerdahl (Van...

Deadly Class Season 1 Episode 1

The Deadly Class premiere is difficult to judge. Like any show, it should be evaluated on its own merits in terms of the kind of story it’s trying to tell and the type of fan it’s supposed to appeal to. As an adaptation, it brings the Rick Remender/Wesley Craig Image comic to life in spectacular fashion, and it is as about as successful as anyone could hope — no surprise given the original writer and artist are attached to the project. But as a tale unto itself, it’s a bit uneven, yo-yoing between Master Lin’s profound motivation for establishing King’s Dominion, the school for assassins around which the series centers,...

Ok, we know Raven is suffering from some seriously real-looking hallucinations on The 100 right now, but is it too much to hope that maybe she's not hallucinating in this sneak peek?  In the clip above, exclusive to E! News, Raven (Lindsey Morgan) is starting to doubt her plans to build a suit that would allow her to take one last spacewalk before succumbing to her deteriorating brain. 'The Wishing Tree': Jason Gedrick gets his dad on for a Hallmark movie
He may be menacing each Sunday night as Miami gentlemen's-club-owner George Novikov on Showtime's crusading-serial-killer drama "Dexter," but in real life, Jason Gedrick is a single father of three sons, ranging in age from 22 to 14.

So when Gedrick got the script for Hallmark Channel's "The Wishing Tree," airing Saturday(Nov. 10), it not only reminded him of lessons he's learned as a father, but also of people who influenced him in his own life.

"You've got to mix it up a little bit," he tells Zap2it. "It's the Apollonian side of my career, not the Dionysian. It's a really cool story. It's one of those stories where you can kick back and just let the story tell itself. It's not overly sentimental, like some holiday shows can be.

"When I read the script, it reminded me of some of the mentors in my life, like an acting coach or a football coach,...

Exclusive: Colin Ferguson talks Eureka, sci-fi fans and The Avengers
Among the special guests at Wizard World Chicago was Colin Ferguson, star of SyFy channel's original TV series Eureka.

The Canadian-born actor - who also enjoys citizenship in the Us and UK - appeared in shows like The Outer Limits and Line of Fire before striking gold as the smart little town's leading man.

Joined by a diverse and well-cast group of actors which included Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Joe Morton, Erica Cerra, Neil Grayston, Joe Morton, Ed Quinn, Jordan Hinson and Niall Matter - with Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton joining later in the show's run - Ferguson became the face of the genre-themed channel's first wave of original television.

Though Eureka (broadcast in the UK as A Town Called Eureka) came to an end this July after six years and five seasons, conventions like this offer fans the opportunity to sustain their intense interest - just look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer...

'Eureka' series finale - 'Just Another Day': 'The strong force holds it all together'
"Eureka" showrunner Jaime Paglia calls his series finale, "Just Another Day," a "love letter to fans." So did you feel the love?

We sure did -- especially if you are measuring by tears and goosebumps.

Maybe the best line of the evening came from amnesiac Holly (Felicia Day), who perfectly captured what Sheriff Jack Carter (Colin Ferguson) means to the little town of Eureka:

"Oh! I remember now. You guys are smart, but the sheriff is the strong force -- he holds it all together."

In his last heroic act of the series, Carter dove through a wormhole to save the town. As he traveled through that space-time anomaly, we saw snippets of important characters (Stark, argh!) and pivotal scenes -- including season one's alternate timeline in which Allison was his wife and pregnant with their child.

After he saved Eureka for the gazillionth time, that happy reality finally...

Check Out This Clip from the Penultimate Episode of Eureka
Last week’s episode of Eureka was the best since Season 1, depending on what you look for in a show. What an excellent creepy scary set up. Sure it’s familiar, but we’ve never seen Eureka like this before. And given that tonight’s episode is, believe it or not, the second-to-last episode of Eureka, ever, all bets are off.

So… will this storyline resolve tonight, or will we have to wait for the finale? Here’s a clip, which will not answer that question, but which showcases some excellent “twinning” work by the production crew:

Clip: Eureka – Double Take

Eureka, starring Colin Ferguson, Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Erica Cerra, Wil Wheaton, Niall Matter, Felicia Day and Neil Grayston, airs Mondays at 9/8c on Syfy.

'Eureka' co-executive producer Amy Berg on 'Worst Case Scenario' and writing for Felicia Day
"Eureka" fans have been very vocal about their love for the show and especially Season 5. In "Worst Cast Scenario," we find out that Holly (Felicia Day) is alive. Sort of. Her consciousness is still in the matrix, but her body is dead.

Co-executive producer and writer Amy Berg stopped by AfterBuzz TV to chat with myself and Jennings Roth Cornet about the show. She talks about creating Holly and finding her voice, what's coming up in the Jo (Erica Cerra)/Carter (Colin Ferguson)/Allison (Salli Richardson-Whitfield) triangle and how Fargo (Neil Grayston) will come to terms with the hand he's been dealt. She also breaks the news that she's no longer with "Person of Interest."

Check out the video below and let us know what you think. Are you loving the season so far? Are you Team Allison or Team Jo? "Eureka" airs Monday nights on Syfy.

Eureka, Ep. 5.06: “Worst Case Scenario” puts one of its stars in the director’s chair
Eureka Review, Season 5, Episode 6, “Worst Case Scenario”

Written by Jill Blotevogel

Directed by Salli Richardson-Whitfield

Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on SyFy

Salli Richardson-Whitfield (Allison) sits in the director’s chair for the first second time and doesn’t miss a beat. She has been with the show since the beginning, so it’s safe to say she understands how things work around there and her familiarity is apparent. Despite “Worst Case Scenario” being predictable and formulaic, by Eureka’s standards, Richardson-Whitfield is able to bring it to life in a way that would suggest she’s been directing Eureka all along.

While running a disaster simulation, the computer in charge decides to set off a series of real events that Sheriff Carter and the rest of the crew must stop before the town is destroyed. Of course everything works out and the town is saved; no major twists or...

Eureka Ep. 5.05: “Jack of All Trades” provides many different emotional beats
Eureka Review, Season 5, Episodwe 5, “Jack of All Trades”

Written by Jaime Paglia and Eric Wallace

Directed by Jaime Paglia

Airs Mondays at 9pm Et on SyFy

This week’s Eureka provides laughs, body swapping, an emotional confession, a dark moment, a potential character departure and a marriage proposal. That’s a lot of ups and downs for one episode, but “Jack of All Trades” reaches these extremes with ease.

Residual effects from the Matrix are still occurring as Jack’s conscience first swaps bodies with Fargo, then Zane, and finally Allison. It appears that since Jack was the only one connected to the Matrix wirelessly, his brain is acting as a sort of WiFi hotspot. The swaps occur randomly and make for some mostly hilarious situations.

Some of the actors, particularly Colin Ferguson (Jack), Erica Cerra (Jo), Kavan Smith (Andy), and Joe Morton (Henry) find themselves playing outside of character...
