It’s been almost a week since Kendrick Lamar’s masterful Super Bowl halftime show, and many are still singing its praises, like Trey Anastasio, who raved about the performance in a new interview this week.
“When I saw Kendrick the other night, I was losing my mind,” Anastasio told GQ. “I thought, ‘This is the deepest thing I’ve ever seen at a Super Bowl.’”

The comment came in the context of Anastasio describing his own band, Phish, as “not a very surface band,” which sometimes calls for listeners to dig into the material a little bit before they start to understand the magic. Caveating that he makes “this comparison without even a drop of quality comparison,” Anastasio likened it to Kendrick’s performance.
“I watched it three times, and I still couldn’t pick up on all the messages he was conveying,” he said.

South Dakota governor Kristi Noem found an unlikely ally in one of the hosts of “The Daily Show,” and it’s all thanks to Donald Trump’s musical town hall. Senior correspondent Desi Lydic broke down the whole bizarre spectacle.
What was supposed to be a Q-and-a on Tuesday devolved into an unexpected concert hosted by DJ Trump. Trump answered four questions from Noem before pausing his town hall after a member of the audience passed out from the heat. After a second audience member passed out, Trump threw in the towel and started to awkwardly dance onstage for over 30 minutes, playing some of his favorite songs. Fans of jam music old and new had reason to rejoice Tuesday night in Grand Rapids, Michigan as Phish were joined onstage by Billy Strings, with the bluegrass legend-in-the-making performing a handful of phan phavorites with the band.
Prior to Phish’s gig at the Van Andel Arena, rumors were abound that Strings, a native of nearby Muir, Michigan, could potentially join the quartet on stage. Toward the end of the second set, Trey Anastasio revealed that a “little local musician” would be sitting in with Phish, kicking off the epic collaboration.

Phish staged perhaps their smallest gig in decades as they packed into a cubicle for NPR’s latest Tiny Desk concert.
Over the course of five songs and 35 minutes, the legendary jam band delivered a performance that spanned their decades-long discography, from the title track of their just-released album Evolve to “You Enjoy Myself,” a live favorite first featured on the band’s 1988 debut LP Junta (and guitarist Trey Anastasio’s personal pick for the potential last-ever-song played by Phish, as he recently told Rolling Stone).

On the heels of releasing their new album, Evolve, Phish have stopped by the NPR headquarters in Washington DC to perform their first-ever Tiny Desk Concert.
Setting up shop at Bob Boilen’s now-iconic desk, the band delivered a jammy set featuring classic cuts like “You Enjoy Myself,” “Sample in a Jar,” and “Chalk Dust Torture,” as well as newer songs, like 2017’s “Sigma Oasis” and “Evolve,” the title track from their latest album. Watch the official video of the performance below.

While this is Phish’s first time performing a Tiny Desk Concert, the band’s members have participated in the series in the past, like when guitarist Trey Anastasio performed a solo set in 2015, riffing on the theme song for NPR’s flagship news program All Things Considered. Bassist Mike Gordon also appeared on the series in 2020.

Phish swam over to The Tonight Show Thursday to perform the title track from their new album Evolve, and even cover a bit of Aerosmith.
The band helped craft the show’s cold open with Jimmy Fallon and the Roots’ Questlove and Black Thought. The bit saw Phish getting into an elevator with the host and musicians and, immediately after the door closed, break into a fully a cappella, perfectly harmonized, parody cover of Aerosmith’s “Love in an Elevator” with lyrics tweaked to, “Phish in an Elevator.”

When it comes to cultural clout, Radiohead might have a leg-up on Phish, but according to the band’s guitarist Ed O’Brien, that might not always be the best thing. According to a new interview with Trey Anastasio, O’Brien once told him that Phish’s audiences are more engaged during concerts than Radiohead’s.
The comments came in Anastasio’s new interview with Rolling Stone. “Ed O’Brien from Radiohead came to one of our shows, and gave me one of the greatest compliments in between sets,” Anastasio began. “He watched the show from the audience, and then he came backstage and he said, ‘I spent a lot of the night facing backwards. I was watching the last row of the arena, in the way back, all the way at the top. Every single person in the room was completely involved in the concert.’”

Phish’s new album album, Evolve, has officially arrived. To support the release of their 16th studio release, the band appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night for a performance of its title track, “Evolve.”
Taking The Tonight Show stage, Phish locked into an easy-flowing groove for the performance of “Evolve,” delivering the song’s reflective lyrics over a warm, mid-tempo arrangement. Leaning into their jammy tendencies, guitarist Trey Anastasio and keyboardist Page McConnell each take solos, as the musical ideas interplay underneath. Watch a video of the performance below.

Just a few weeks after Phish wrap up their summer tour with a four-night stand at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colorado, Trey Anastasio will celebrate his 60th birthday. That’s a heavy moment for some people, but Anastasio says he couldn’t be happier about it.
“Maybe this is going to sound strange, but I really like it,” Anastasio says. “It’s like something really amazing is happening, where I’m not part of the scramble anymore. It gives me the opportunity to observe, and enjoy.

There was nothing going on in terms of American or international politics over the last few weeks that late-night would have gotten its teeth into, right?
The majority of late-night hosts were enjoyed some time off over the last couple of weeks, but the likes of Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers and Jimmy Fallon are back in the studio and ready to dig into the news of the day.
Will they find time to discuss the state of the U.S. Presidential Election, President Biden’s debate performance and the subsequent calls for him to exit the race and former President Trump’s own debate performance, his ties to Project 2025 and his search for a Vice President?

It’s been a busy week for Trey Anastasio. On Sunday, the Phish guitarist joined Billy Joel onstage at his penultimate Madison Square Garden residency show. On Thursday, he stopped by another New York event: The Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony, where he covered Steely Dan.
You can catch the eight-minute video below, where Anastasio kicks off with 1976’s “Kid Charlemagne,” then dives into the Dan classic “Reelin’ In the Years.”
“When he played the “Baker’s Dozen” down the street at Msg, he played 237 songs over 13 nights,” the announcer said of the band’s 2017 residency.

Madison Square Garden Entertainment has apparently had a change of heart on its decision to issue a lifetime ban on the Phish fan credited who ripped a bong inside of the Sphere in Las Vegas during the band’s concert on April 20th, 2024.
After a lawyer initially said that the fan was permanently banned from Sphere and other Msg-owned venues earlier this week, a spokeswoman for the company now says that announcement was made “inadvertently.”
“There was a breakdown in our process due to a change in personnel which resulted in the letter being sent inadvertently,” the spokeswoman said in a statement shared on Saturday. “This customer is not banned from our properties, however, it is still against our policies, which are in accordance with local laws, to smoke, bring glassware into our venues, and disrupt other fans’ enjoyment of the event.”

Madison Square Garden Entertainment has permanently banned a concert-goer credited with the “first bong hit to ever be ripped” inside of the Sphere during a Phish concert on April 20th, 2024.
Video of the individual smoking out of a bong prior to Phish’s concert at the $2.3 billion venue in Las Vegas was shared on Phish fan sites and quickly went viral. While the individual became something of a folk hero among the band’s fans, Msg, the owner of Sphere, didn’t seem to find the video as funny.
In a letter sent by Christopher Schimpf, SVP/Associate General Counsel of Madison Square Garden Entertainment on June 3rd, the concert-goer was informed that they had “violated the guest code of conduct by visibly smoking inside the venue. Sphere Entertainment Co. will not tolerate actions that threaten the safety and security of our guests, and employees.”

Drew Carey has definitely been a bit hyperbolic about how much he loved Phish’s recent residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas. Now, he’s gone so far as to say that the Phish show was so glorious that it made U2 — who previously performed at The Sphere — look “like a bar band.”
Appearing on SiriusXM’s Phish Radio, Carey discussed both Phish’s and U2’s performances at the new billion-dollar Las Vegas venue. The comedian and The Price is Right host described himself as a casual U2 fan and eventually caught a performance at The Sphere, deeming it to be astonishing. “It blew my mind how great it was,” he said. “I told all my friends and The Price Is Right audience how great it was… I went the next two weekends in a row.”
However, despite loving U2’s residency, he recalls being staggered by Phish’s performance almost immediately: “Then,...

For viewers of The Price Is Right, it’s not uncommon to see contestants get riled up when they’re trying to win big money or prizes.
The popular show features games where viewers guess the prices of various household products or big-ticket items to win prizes.
While most of these games involve skill and smarts, contestants also get to participate in games or rounds involving some luck.
That includes spinning the Wheel, where a contestant’s spins can win lots of cash. Viewers recently saw a contestant in disbelief over his luck spinning the Wheel.
However, another contestant was full of emotion as she yelled on stage to Drew Carey about one of the pricing games.
The game show host even described her reaction to the pricing game as an “out-of-body experience.”

Drew Carey compared seeing Phish at the Sphere in Las Vegas as akin to “being edged for four days straight. And then right before the face-melting climax at the end of the fourth day, an angel comes down from heaven, Gabriel, and he shoots f–king heroin in your arm, and he says, ‘Good luck now motherf–er!’ And he leaves, and you have an orgasm for 15 minutes while your eyeballs fall out of your head!” The Price is Right host also said he would “stick my dick in a blender and swear off pussy for the rest of my life” to see the band at Sphere again.”
While it remains to be seen if Phish will return to the $2.3 billion venue for a run of shows, if the event that they do, Carey has a blender ready to go. In response to his viral reaction, the jam band gifted him an autographed blender.

Drew Carey isn’t the same man he was before he attended his first Phish concert. The psychedelic rock band’s shows are trippy enough on their own, but they recently completed a run of shows at the new Las Vegas Sphere venue, a wholly immersive location with LED screens for walls. That twisted combination triggered a rebirth in the comedian. (And Phish thanked him for it.)
