Cinema Retro has received the following press release from Virgil Films concerning the outstanding documentary 40 Years Of Rocky: The Birth Of A Classic

From Virgil Films & Entertainment comes Director Derek Wayne Johnson’s new documentary film 40 Years of Rocky: The Birth of a Classic. The film – narrated by ‘Rocky’ star and creator Sylvester Stallone, who shares insights from his battle to get the story of a down-on-his-luck boxer greenlit and onto the big screen – will premiere on digital HD June 9th.

In 1976, a low budget movie written by an unknown actor was released, inspiring audiences around the world to go the distance. Rocky became the ultimate underdog film. Over forty years later, Sylvester Stallone recounts the making of the beloved classic through rare home movies provided by Director John G. Avildsen and Production Manager Lloyd Kaufman.

Scott Sheppard’s latest documentary “An Act of Love” follows Reverend Frank Schaefer, who had his ministerial credentials revoked in December 2013 after officiating his son’s same-sex wedding. Though Schaefer had no intention of getting involved in the Lgbt debate, he was inevitably thrust into the fight for equality when his son Tim came out of the closet. Schaefer eventually officiated Tim’s wedding in a small, private service in Massachusetts, but eventually word got back to his small Pennsylvania town and the United Methodist Church put him on trial. This is Sheppard’s second documentary feature. He previously directed “Planes, Trains & Autorickshaws,” about three American sisters raised in India by missionary parents who return to their homeland for the first time in 50 years.

The film will be distributed by Virgil Films.

Before the Ice Bucket Challenge, there was “Super Size Me.” When little-known filmmaker Morgan Spurlock challenged himself to eat at McDonald’s for every meal, three times a day, for thirty days straight, he anticipated the era of viral marketing with purpose. The documentary grossed $11.5 million theatrically in 2004 and ignited an international conversation about the fast food industry.

By appearing in his film as subject and narrator, Spurlock popularized a kind of personality-driven commentary that is now regularly found in another format — video blogging, or “vlogging.” And that’s why he’s a good fit to produce “Vlogumentary,” the first feature film to explore one of the more ubiquitous ways that personalities develop on the site.

The film not only offers fans an intimate look at their favorite vloggers, but also demystifies the strange career path for would-be skeptics.

The documentary about the late comedy star and member of SNL and Chicago’s Second City Theatre troupe features Christina Applegate, Dan Aykroyd, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Molly Shannon and David Spade.

Brent Hodge and Derik Murray directed I Am Chris Farley and Virgil plans to release in key markets in the latter stages of summer.

The film will debut on Spike network on August 10 followed by VOD platforms.
