Nearly five years after his theater collective disbanded, one of Shia Labeouf‘s former protégés is shedding light on his volatile teaching methods.
As Slauson Rec director Leo Lewis O’Neil prepares to debut his documentary about the free theater school the actor established at the titular recreational center in Los Angeles in 2018, Labeouf has given the film his blessing.
“I gave Leo this camera and encouraged him to share his vision and his personal experience without edit,” he said in a statement to Vanity Fair. “I am aware of the doc and fully support the release of the film. While my teaching methods may be unconventional for some, I am proud of the incredible accomplishments that these kids achieved. Together we turned a drama class into an acting company. I wish only good things for Leo and everyone who was part of The Slauson Rec Company.”

Embattled actor and filmmaker Shia Labeouf is now at the center of a documentary about his “unconventional” teaching style. Labeouf founded a free theater school at the Slauson Rec Center in South Central Los Angeles in 2018; the experimental theater company continued until November 2020, shortly before Labeouf was sued by his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs for sexual battery, assault, and emotional distress.
Now, documentary “Slauson Rec” is detailing what transpired at the school across those two years. Labeouf’s former student Leo Lewis O’Neil directs the film, which is publicly supported by Labeouf. O’Neil shot approximately 800 hours of footage during his time at the company.
As the official synopsis reads, the documentary “examines power dynamics and control within an experimental theater collective. What started as an open, egalitarian workshop quickly evolved into intense daily rehearsals led by Shia, pushing participants to their limits.”
Labeouf said in a statement to Vanity...

Welcome to this [late] review of All Elite Wrestling’s most eagerly-awaited pay per views and one that has been beset by injury issues. But we won’t let spoil our enjoyment will we?! I’m on a short holiday as we speak so it’s taken me a couple of days to get through everything Forbidden Door had to offer. But what an offer! We’ve got Taz, Excalibur and the English voice of Njpw, Kevin Kelly on commentary… Let’s get to it.

Welcome to this week’s review of Aew: Dark which comes from Aew Universal and features 9 matches this week. Well, nine from Universal… we do have a tenth match but it seems to have been filmed during a Rampage taping away from Aew Universal (was it cut from a previous episode?). Once again we’ve got Taz and Excalibur on commentary… Let’s get into the review!
Match #1: Max Caster def. Tyler Uriah
My Thoughts: Tyler Uriah (what a name) makes his Aew debut in a singles match against Max Caster, who’s at Aew Universal sans Anthony Bowens. Shocker! Caster even had to get an audience member to do Bowens’ part of the Acclaimed’s intro! I was expecting a squash match but Uriah actually delivered some decent offence before Caster got the pin, plus this got more time than the usual Aew squash.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Marina Shafir def.

Match #1: Jay Lethal def. Jake Something
My Thoughts: It’s Jay Lethal. You should know my thoughts on him by now. As for his opponent, Jake Something was great in Impact so I had hoped he wouldn’t get jobbed out like this, even more so to someone like Jay Lethal. At least Jake was allowed to get some offence in and not just roll over like you’d expect Lethal to want his opponents to. And the post-match beatdown was unnecessary Imho.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Alex Reynolds def. Jake Manning
My Thoughts: Man-Scout Jake Manning made some impact in this one, even though the outcome was never ever in doubt.
