Exclusive: Austria’s Red Bull Studios and Helsinki-based fund Ipr.Vc have announced a multi-year slate financing commitment focused on premium sports and sports-adjacent documentary projects.
The agreement follows in the wake of a string of high-profile, sports-themed productions from Red Bull Studios including Jalil Lespert’s Dakar: Race Against The Desert, produced with Universal Pictures; BAFTA award-winning documentary The Real Mo Farah, and Emmy nominee The Dawn Wall.
The partners said their collaboration would leverage Red Bull Studios’ track record in the sports documentary space and Ipr.Vc’s investment expertise, saying it also underscored the former’s commitment to producing compelling sports-themed content that goes beyond the highlight reel to tell human stories, with cultural relevance and cinematic execution.
“We are excited to partner with Ipr.Vc which will enable us to accelerate our ambition to tell bold, visually striking, stories rooted in the world of sport and beyond.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi split the franchise's fanbase, but it was still a critical and commercial hit ($1.3 billion at the box office and a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score). With that in mind, it's no wonder Disney and Lucasfilm wasted no time in signing Rian Johnson up to take the helm of a brand new trilogy of movies.
Plot details were never revealed, meaning we didn't find out which era of this Galaxy Far, Far Away Johnson intended to explore. Fans were mixed on the prospect of seeing more Star Wars from the writer/director, and the trilogy became yet another unmade project on Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy's watch.
Johnson's attentions eventually shifted to his Knives Out movies, and a lucrative deal with Netflix that means he's now putting the finishing touches to the upcoming third instalment of the Daniel Craig-led murder mystery franchise.

The Daisy Ridley-led Star Wars film is reportedly facing another major hurdle during development as Lucasfilm begins to focus on other upcoming feature-length projects. The next chapter in Rey Skywalker's storyline is currently set to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel), but it appears that Star Wars fans will have to wait even longer to hear good news about the film.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Lucasfilm has put the long-gestating Rey Star Wars film on hold. Rumored to be titled New Jedi Order, the project has seen a rotating crew of writers, with the latest being George Nolfi. However, it seems other Star Wars films are taking precedent at the studio, including Shawn Levy's Starfighter and James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi. Richtman states that the Rey movie is "not canceled," but it is now on the backburner for the foreseeable future. Of course,...

There have been conflicting reports about the status of the untitled Star Wars movie from director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy doing the rounds since late last year. We had heard that "New Jedi Order" was a priority at one point, but it seems Lucasfilm may have made the decision to put the project on the back-burner again.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, "The Rey movie is on hold once again, as both the Shawn Levy and James Mangold Star Wars films are moving forward first. The project is not canceled — just temporarily on hold."
This probably shouldn't come as much of a surprise, since a new writer was never officially assigned after Steven Knight parted ways with the project. This doesn't necessarily mean we won't be seeing Daisy Ridley's Rey back in the galaxy far, far away anytime soon, however.
A recent report from THR claimed that Rey "Skywalker" is key to the franchise's future.

Lucasfilm put an upcoming Star Wars movie back on the shelf as the studio prioritizes other projects from the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars has seen a notable lack of film releases since the Skywalker Saga ended in 2019 with Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. Instead, Lucasfilm turned to Disney+ for its new Star Wars content, but that hasn't stopped the studio from announcing new Star Wars films; however, few have made it out of the development phase.
The latest Star Wars story to hit the pause button is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Star Wars film, which will include the much-anticipated return of Daisy Ridley's Rey. The movie was first announced at Star Wars Celebration in 2023 and has since stopped and started through the development process. The latest update on the Rey movie comes from entertainment insider Daniel Richtman, who reported on his Patreon that the Rey movie is "on hold once again.

Daisy Ridley will always be known for her role as Rey Skywalker in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, but earlier this year, she starred in an action thriller likened to John Wick upon its release, which has been a sensation on streaming. Ridley stars alongside Taz Skylar and Ruth Gemmell in Cleaner, the action vehicle following an ex-soldier-turned-window-cleaner who has to rescue hostages after a gala is hijacked and its attendees fall into major trouble. Cleaner began streaming on Max at the end of last week, and the film wasted no time climbing to the top of streaming charts, sitting at #1 at the time of writing. Cleaner earned a “rotten” 52% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but a slightly kinder 66% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.
Simon Uttley, Paul Andrew Williams, and Matthew Orton wrote the script for Cleaner, and Martin Campbell directed the film. Orton also worked as a writer on Marvel’s Moon Knight series,...

It's been a long time since Colin Trevorrow checked back into the Star Wars galaxy, but Andor has piqued his curiosity.
While speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about Prime Video's new action comedy Deep Cover, which he co-wrote and produced, Trevorrow addressed how he feels revisiting Lucasfilm's franchise since departing from Star Wars: Episode IX. The director confirmed that Tony Gilroy's acclaimed Star Wars spy thriller is on his radar, adding, "My son and I have both decided that we are going to watch all of Andor this summer."
He did, however, acknowledge, "It has been a struggle for me to engage with anything Star Wars-related just on an emotional level. So, to the team that made Andor, I guess I can say that you're the ones who've finally brought me back in. I know that what they've done is extraordinary, and I can't wait to watch it.

A long time ago... 1977, to be precise, the first Star Wars film (which would later be subtitled A New Hope) was released in theaters. It was a ground-breaking success and led to the creation of two sequels, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, forming the original trilogy. The franchise then evolved into a trilogy of trilogies, featuring both prequels and sequels telling the story of the Skywalker family. Luke Skywalker was an integral part of the saga, but the actor behind the character, Mark Hamill, has noted how the films changed over time.
During a recent appearance on Today, Hamill revealed the one golden rule that the original Star Wars trilogy had that the sequels didn't. He recalled a candid conversation that he once had with George Lucas about Return of the Jedi and Luke Skywalker's arc, explaining that he wanted to tap into the dark side more,...

Fans know that Daisy Ridley's Rey is coming back to the Star Wars world, but a new theory seems to suggest that she could return a whole lot sooner than fans had expected. In fact, it could be as soon as 2027's Star Wars: Starfighter. The new Star Wars film from Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy is set to star Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth in a new adventure taking place five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
A theory is making the rounds, suggesting that Daisy Ridley's sequel trilogy Jedi master could return to Star Wars in Star Wars: Starfighter. Rey is confirmed to star in a new film in Lucasian canon from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy; however, aside from that, no further future for her character has been announced, but there have been whispers she could appear elsewhere.

As Mia Goth's star continues to rise, the highly in-demand actress - who just recently wrapped on Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey - has booked a trip to the galaxy far, far away.
First reported by Jeff Sneider and since backed up by THR, Goth has been cast as the main villain in Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter. Details on her character are scant, but we do know that she'll play one of the people pursuing Ryan Gosling's unnamed hero and his teenage nephew.
THR also confirms that this is the part Anora star Mikey Madison was attached to before deciding to pass due to a money issue.

Don’t expect to see Luke Skywalker in any of the upcoming films Lucasfilm has planned — even as a spectral Force Ghost.
The 73-year-old actor, who has appeared in five live-action Star Wars films and made de-aged cameos in The Mandalorian TV series, suggested that Skywalker’s run is over — and should be over.
“I am so grateful to [creator George Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called Star Wars ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'” said Hamill during an interview with ComicBook.com to promote his new film, the Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck. “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that. But I really think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.

Mark Hamill says Luke Skywalker’s story is “complete” and insists he will not revisit the character in any future Star Wars project, joking that “there’s no way I’m gonna appear as a naked Force ghost.” Speaking while promoting the Stephen King adaptation The Life of Chuck, the 72-year-old actor added, “I had my time,” and urged Lucasfilm to spotlight new heroes.

Mark Hamill won’t be returning as Luke Skywalker in Star Wars: New Jedi Order, even though the story will continue with Rey, played by Daisy Ridley. It's been two decades since Padmé Amidala, played by Natalie Portman, last appeared in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which sealed her fate in the tragic conclusion of the prequel trilogy. Still, fans still want to see more of her. While there hasn’t been a way yet to get the actor or character back on the big screen, in the galaxy far, far away, anything is possible. And Portman certainly feels so.
As the actor is promoting her latest film, Fountain of Youth, where she stars opposite John Krasinski, the questions about her Star Wars return are obvious, especially after Daisy Ridley has been announced to return for a Rey-centric movie. Recently, when Portman was asked about her return to the galaxy, she seemed optimistic, saying,
“Listen, nobody’s asked me, but I’m open to everything. Life’s only fun if you’re open to every possibility.

John Boyega has confirmed he's open to returning to Star Wars, and has even hinted he's already spoken to Daisy Ridley about the prospect. John Boyega's Finn is generally seen as one character failed by the sequel trilogy, after posters for Star Wars: The Force Awakens appeared to be setting Finn up as a Jedi. The franchise is finally exploring the aftermath of the sequels, though, with Daisy Ridley herself returning. She's hinted she'd love to see Boyega step back into the galaxy too.

This article contains spoilers for the series finale of "Andor."
After nearly a decade of constant polarization within the "Star Wars" fandom, "Andor," a prequel series centered on one of the ill-fated heroes of "Rogue One," ended up becoming the best piece of "Star Wars" storytelling since 1980 when "The Empire Strikes Back" hit theaters. Although the majority of viewers tuning into the series already know where Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) will end up, the series' impeccable dialogue and character development in depicting the early stages of the Rebellion have become the new gold standard for long-form storytelling in the galaxy far, far away.
The final batch of "Andor" season 2 episodes came out earlier this week, concluding the Emmy-nominated series in the most fitting way possible. Much like another incredible prequel series, such as AMC's "Better Call Saul," which had viewers following the life of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) in...

Oscar Isaac recently addressed the burning question on many Star Wars fans' minds: will Poe Dameron be back for Rey's (Daisy Ridley) next adventure? While attending a special Andor screening, Isaac commented on the possibility of reprising his role in the upcoming Star Wars project.
After a recent Andor Season 2 screening in New York, Oscar Isaac was asked directly by a fan if he's going to return as Poe Dameron in Rey's upcoming movie. Coming as a disappointment to many fans across the galaxy, Isaac bluntly replied, "No," with a smile on his face. The video comes from @deadboy28 on X and seemingly confirms Poe's return to Star Wars is no time soon, and Isaac doesn't seem unhappy by it.
The Rey film Isaac is being asked about was first announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023 and is set to mark Ridley's return after 2019's The Rise of Skywalker.

Every year on this say, Star Wars fans the world over show their appreciation for all things Galaxy Far, Far Away, and Lucasfilm has now joined the celebration by releasing an all-new montage of footage from every movie, live-action and animated series in the saga.
The video cleverly mashes-up footage and dialogue from all three movie trilogies, as well as the likes of The Mandalorian, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Wars Rebels, Visions, Skeleton Crew, and more.
We haven't seen Star Wars on the big screen since The Rise of Skywalker, but that will soon change. In addition to Shawn Levy's Star Wars: Starfighter, Lucasfilm has Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's untitled Rey-focused movie, James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi (probably not the official title), and Dave Filoni's "Mandoverse" crossover event in the works.

Star Wars star Daisy Ridley gave fans an unexpected treat on this year's Star Wars Day. She shared a photo of herself in character from behind the scenes of The Rise of Skywalker.
In a post on her Instagram stories that was shared on the Star Wars Cantina subreddit, Ridley posted the photo from The Rise of Skywalker, captioning it "Happy Star Wars day to all who celebrate". The photo appears to be a selfie, with Ridley smiling in her dressing room while other outfits rest on hangers behind her. The Rise of Skywalker was Ridley's latest film in the Star Wars franchise, after 2015's The Force Awakens and 2017's The Last Jedi.
Ridley rose to fame for her portrayal of Rey, a scavenger who was abandoned as a child on the desert planet of Jakku, later becoming an ally of the Resistance and training to become a Jedi with Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa.

Star Wars is continuing the story of Finn and Jannah in the first new novel set after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It's been six years since The Rise of Skywalker, and the galaxy's future - and the fate of its heroes - remains a mystery. We know Daisy Ridley is returning as Rey in Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's New Jedi Order movie, but what about characters such as John Boyega's Finn and Naomi Ackie's Jannah?
According to Penguin / Random House, this story will finally be told in an upcoming novel by New York Times best-selling author Kwame Mbalia - Star Wars: The Last Order. Releasing on October 21, the synopsis promises an exciting adventure set after the fall of the First Order:
Following the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the Resistance rescues a ship full of young passengers who had been kidnapped by the First Order.

A week ago today, Ryan Gosling took to the Live Stage at Star Wars Celebration Japan to share a message with the thousands gathered in the Makuhari Messe Convention Centre. “As I’m here,” said the Canadian actor, fresh off the rockstar-like reveal that he would be leading Shawn Levy’s newly announced Star Wars: Starfighter, “I feel like the Force is the fans. And all we can hope is, ‘May the fans be with us.’” In the moment, it was a quippy turn of phrase to avoid giving anything away about Levy’s secretive new Star War; but by the end of the weekend, it seemed like the perfect summation of the current state of play in our beloved galaxy far, far away.

We learned that Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's mysterious Star Wars movie, which is set to star Ryan Gosling, was officially titled Star Wars: Starfighter during Star Wars Celebration Japan last week, with a release date of May 28, 2027 also announced.
“The reality is that this script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters,” said Gosling from the stage. “It’s filled with so much heart and adventure, and there just really is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”
“This is a standalone. It’s not a prequel, not sequel. It’s a new adventure. It’s set in a period of time that we haven’t seen explored yet,” added Levy.

Ryan Gosling is calling on Anakin Skywalker for assistance. Gosling, who is set to lead “Star Wars” franchise installment “Star Wars: Starfighter,” had dinner with iconic star Hayden Christensen, who famously played the young Darth Vader in the prequel films (he later reprised the role for series “Obi-Wan Kenobi” and “Ahsoka.”)
Christensen told Et while at “Star Wars” Celebration in Tokyo that Gosling is an “awesome” actor who would fit into the franchise well. “I don’t think he needs any advice. He’s awesome,” Christensen said. “I got to have dinner with him last night, and I know he’s really excited to now be in the ‘Star Wars’ family, and I’m excited for his film.”
“Star Wars: Starfighter” will be directed by Shawn Levy, and is billed as a standalone film that takes place five years after the events of 2019’s “Star Wars: Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker.

Lost showrunner Carlton Cuse, along with his son Nick, are working on a new Star Wars series for Disney/Lucasfilm, it’s been announced.
After a lengthy wait, Andor season 2 has begun streaming in certain territories (the UK gets it on the 23rd April). Meanwhile, Lucasfilm appears to be planning other small screen adventures in the Star Wars franchise.
Several outlets – including Variety – are reporting that Carlton Cuse, perhaps best known as the showrunner of hit ABC series Lost, is currently in the early stages of developing a new Star Wars TV series. Cuse is said to be making the show with his son Nick, writer on the likes of the 2019 Watchmen series or Masters Of The Air.
Besides that, absolutely nothing is known about what the Cuses are working on. This means we’ll have to write about some other semi-related things in order to make this news story look a bit more substantial.

A newStar Wars series is in early development — and it’s coming from a familiar name in the world of sci-fi television, as per reports from Variety and The InSneider. Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, writer-producer Nick Cuse, are teaming up for the first time to develop an all-new story in a galaxy far, far away. With Andor wrapping up shortly, we're in need of a new prestige drama in the beloved franchise, so the timing is ideal. That's the headline, but the rest is shrouded in total mystery.
There are currently no plot details, character teases, timeline hints, or casting information attached to the project, so it's basically little more than a concept at this point. But when has that ever stopped us getting excited? Considering the Cuse family résumé, it’s fair to expect something twisty, ambitious, and character-driven, and probably massively divisive, let's be honest...

A mysterious new “Star Wars” series is in early development from “Lost” co-showrunner Carlton Cuse and his son, Nick Cuse, Variety has confirmed.
There are practically no other details available about the show, such as which characters it will include, when it will take place in the “Star Wars” timeline or which actors will be cast.
Cuse is not the first “Lost” alum to travel to a galaxy far, far away. J.J. Abrams, a co-creator of the sci-fi classic, directed 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”
And Damon Lindelof, Cuse’s co-showrunner on “Lost,” was hired to co-write a film with Justin Britt-Gibson centered on Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey. However, Lindelof said in 2023 that he was “asked to leave” the “Star Wars” universe, and he and Britt-Gibson were replaced as writers by “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight. While fans eagerly anticipate Waititi's unique vision for the franchise, Kennedy clarified that the primary factor delaying the start of production is the director's own busy schedule.

A beloved Star Wars villain is finally getting their own solo project more than two decades after first being introduced to the franchise. Announced at the ongoing Star Wars Celebration, Disney revealed that Sith Lord and dual-lightsaber-wielding Dathomirian Zabrak, Darth Maul, will lead his own animated show in Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord.
Announced to a celebratory crowd during the final moments of the panel spotlighting the 20th anniversary of Lucasfilm Animation, the first footage from Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord was shown, and revealed that the animated series will be set after Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The series will follow Maul as he trains an apprentice and “plots to rebuild his criminal syndicate on a planet untouched by the Empire.”
Actor Sam Witwer, who has voiced the Sith Lord several times before and has now become synonymous with the character, will reprise the role for Maul: Shadow Lord.

At Star Wars Celebration 2025, we received an update on the progress of Shawn Levy's Star Wars film. After several rumors and casting talks, Ryan Gosling will officially star in the new Star Wars film from Shawn Levy. Better yet, the film also got an official title and release date, and Star Wars: Starfighter is now set to debut on May 28, 2027. While at the convention, both Levy and Gosling lauded the new film as a wholly original Star Wars tale that embraces an era yet to be explored on the big screen. Shawn Levy's Star Wars movie was announced in November 2022, and development is finally moving forward. The movie is reportedly starring Ryan Gosling.
Levy's untitled movie in the Star Wars franchise will be the next movie to start production, per a new report in late February. Following the update, casting continues. Alongside Gosling, Levy reportedly wanted to cast recent Oscar-winning actress Mikey Madison, per Variety.
Madison recently won the Oscar for Best Actress for Anora, and she has yet to pick her next project. However, it turns out that going to a Galaxy Far, Far Away in Star Wars won't be among them, as Madison passed on the part.

A recent rumor claimed that Jodie Comer might be in talks for an undisclosed role alongside Ryan Gosling in Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie, and we're now hearing that Lucasfilm may have zeroed in on an actor to play the villain.
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, Jesse Plemons "has the offer" to play the mysterious film's big bad.
A separate rumor is claiming that Plemons is also being eyed to play a young Plutarch Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, so it'll be interesting to see if he winds up in one or both (unlikely) of these roles.
Plemons is no stranger to villainous roles, and was actually said to be in the running to play Kylo Ren in Star Wars: The Force Awakens prior to Adam Driver landing the part.
Apparently, the movie will "have a significantly smaller budget" than the previous Disney-era films,...

Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy's untitled Star Wars movie took a hyperspace jump forward with the casting of Ryan Gosling in the lead role back in January, and we now have word on who might be set to join him as the project's female lead.
According to scooper Mttsh, Jodie Comer is in talks for an undisclosed role.
As fans will no doubt be aware, Comer has already taken a trip to the galaxy far, far away as Rey's (Daisy Ridley) biological mother in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Comer only made a very brief appearance in a flashback scene, bidding farewell to her daughter on Jakku before being executed by Emperor Palpatine's agents.
Comer has previously worked with Levy on Free Guy.
