Biography

    • Lucas Tavernier is a multilingual actor. He's works fluently and regularly in English, French, Italian and Dutch. He's also fluent in Spanish and good in German. He has notions of Arabic and Turkish and a good ear for phonetics which allows him to learn lines in languages he doesn't know (yet).

He is an allround actor, with a vast experience on stage and on set. He is a Dutch (Flemish) native speaker who graduated with distinction at the K.U. Leuven in philology of romance languages. He is one the few non native Fench speakers with stage experience in alexandrine verse: he performed more than a 100 times as l'Aiglon, the longest part in French verse repertoire, in Paris, in the play of the same name by Edmond Rostand, directed by Marion Bierry. As a jack-of-all-trades he is also at ease other genres such as commedia dell'arte for which he has a passion. He regularly shares this passion giving workshops in which he uses his collection of more than ten masks as a way to make actors aware of their physical and vocal expressive qualities. In Belgium he has been on stage at Bozar, Concertgebouw Brugge, Villers-la-Ville, Théâtre Royal du Parc, Théâtre Royal des Galeries, ... With his own production company he produced plays such as "Pour un oui ou pour un non" by Nathalie Sarraute, "Then what" (Andrew Payne), "Contractions" (Mike Bartlett). Sometimes directing, sometimes perfoming. In all of those cases taking care himself of the translation into Dutch.

In cinema he works internationally and has been directed a.o. by George Clooney (in The Monuments Men) and Edoardo de Angelis (in Comandante). In German he performed alongside Dieter Hallervorden. For his work with directors such as Arjen Schotel (Subhuman) or Gideon Van Eeden (Entgen Luyten's Executioner), he received laurels at Cannes Indies Shorts and at IFF The Hague.

In the world of classical music, he has worked with the National Belgian Orchestra (directed by Jiri Rozen) as a solo narrator for Snegourochka, sharing the stage with soprano Jovita Vaska and tenor Igor Morozov in 2019. Grégoire Pont, taking care of the live drawings, was so pleased with his performance he asked to have Lucas back in 2023, for The Nutcracker, the Christmas performance of the Belgian National Orchestra, directed by Ryan McAdams. Carrying the weight of being the only performing solo artist, next to the orchestra and the drawings of Grégoire Pont.

He is by all means a physical actor, with swimming as a nearly daily practice and driving a motorcycle (more than 100.000km on his BMW RT1200) to go to jobs where public transport can't take him. Always ready to pick up a challenge on set (horseback riding on set: check; drowning whilst being filmed: check; being left in open waters to die in the movie: check; ...) Other skills and pleasures include tango dancing, rowing, cycling.
