Mumbai, May 2 (Ians) Actress Isha Talwar, who will be soon seen in the upcoming streaming series ‘Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo’, has shared that her father — director Vinod Talwar — cannot ever consume a piece of audio-visual content as just an audience, the mind of director in him is constantly analysing the technical aspects of the films or a series.

Vinod Talwar is a veteran director, and was recently seen in the streaming series ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak’ which was based on the world of pulp movies and everything that the genre entails.

The actress told Ians: “I know that when he watches something, the mind of the director is always working and that he can’t consume content as an audience, he is always thinking about technical aspects. And it’s the same with me, we discuss things like the editing, the background score, the performances.”

The actor said: “My role in the series is of a cameo or a special appearance. I wanted to add value by being a platform where these filmmakers could talk freely. I was just happy to be a part of this moment for them, which was celebrating them and getting their due.”

The docu-series sheds light on the pulp film industry of India which works under a lot of resource constraints. Considered to be a cottage style filmmaking industry, the series focuses on showing what and who contributed to the 90s Pulp Cinema, a genre of content that had strong and loyal fan following in its heydays.

Filmmaker Vasan Bala, who earlier tasted success with his streaming film ‘Monica O My Darling’, is back with another Ott release, this time a docu-series centering the pulp film industry of India titled ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak’.

The director revealed that actress Richa Chadha used to organise screenings of pulp films along with her then roommate. Vasan shared his earliest memory of watching a pulp film which was on VHS.

He said, “My earliest memory of watching a pulp movie is on VHS. Ramsay films would be lot in demand back in the day but, when the VHS were not available, the vendors would give VHS of Hari Ram Singh films, Vinod Talwar films which had similar actor but one could figure out that they were a little different in terms of making and the structure of the film.”

Composer and singer Sneha Khanwalkar shared her idea behind the groovy track, “Cinema Marte Dum Tak is an ode to the 90s pulp cinema that were known for its thrills, dialogues and visuals that instantly hooked the audiences, and I wanted the song to exude the same vibe.”

Paul Mescal, Emily Watson’s ‘God’s Creatures’ Acquired by BFI Distribution – Global Bulletin

BFI Distribution has acquired from A24 2022 Cannes title “God’s Creatures,” starring Emily Watson, Paul Mescal and Aisling Franciosi, for U.K. theatrical release, and is partnering with independent Irish distributor Volta Pictures, who have acquired the film for Ireland. Volta will release the film in Ireland on March 24 and and BFI Distribution in the U.K. on March 31.

Directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer, the film is set in a windswept fishing village on the coast of Ireland, where a mother is torn between protecting her beloved son and her own sense of right and wrong. A lie she tells for him rips apart their family and close-knit community. Shane Crowley wrote the screenplay based on a story he co-wrote with Cronin O’Reilly.

'Cinema Marte Dum Tak' brings forth stories of Indian pulp movie industry

After swaying the audience with his streaming film ‘Monica O My Darling’, filmmaker Vasan Bala is back on the streaming medium, this time with an unscripted series, ‘Cinema Marte Dum Tak’. The trailer of the series was unveiled on Tuesday and takes the viewers back to the 90s, giving them a glimpse into the fascinating, flourishing and undocumented world of Hindi pulp movies, which boasted of a loyal and strong fan-following across the country.

The six-episode reality docu-series will walk the viewers through the independent ecosystem of the 90s Pulp Cinema industry by presenting behind the scenes with four exceptionally passionate directors of that era – J Neelam, Vinod Talwar, Dilip Gulati and Kishan Shah – as they come back for their swan songs, to make a film using the similar budgets and themes from 30 years ago.
