  • Former Palm Springs TV meteorologist (KPSP). In fact, still did weather forecasts for more than a month from The Price is Right (1972) set at CBS Television City when he was named new announcer.
  • In April 2004, his 30 year dream came true when he became the new permanent announcer on The Price is Right (1972).
  • A former Los Angeles disc jockey at K-EARTH 101. Spent 10 years with CBS-FM, Los Angeles. Also many other medium and large markets around the country (including Tampa, FL).
  • Was named the Best Game Show Announcer of the Year in 2009.
  • Frequently appeared onstage with current The Price is Right (1972) host, Drew Carey, at the Improv Allstars show @ the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • His TV idol when he was young was legendary host: 'Bob Barker (I).
  • During a question-and-answer segment with then-announcer Johnny Olson at a taping of "The Price Is Right" in 1978, Rich asked how he could get Olson's job. Olson brought Rich onstage and asked him to give an example of how he would call a contestant to "Come on down!".
  • As a young adult attending college at the University of Florida in Gainesville, Rich was diagnosed with testicular cancer and, subsequently, cancer of the lower lymphatic system. Both were treated successfully making Fields a cancer survivor.
  • Rich has the original announcer's podium from The Price is Right (1972) used by Johnny Olson and Rod Roddy on display at his home. It was to be trashed, but Rich saved it.
  • In 2010, Rich started filling in for the late Charlie O'Donnell as the announcer on Wheel of Fortune (1983). Ultimately, the announcing position went to Jim Thornton, who ironically was the other final candidate, along with Rich, to takeover for the late Rod Roddy on The Price is Right (1972).
  • Returned to weather forecasting in Summer 2010 for CBS Los Angeles stations KCBS and KCAL.

  • Worked at a restaurant called Candie's when he first moved to southern California. According the Rich the most popular item on the menu was the patty melt.
  • Claims to have stopped 3 robberies while working at Candie's restaurant.
  • On of his first auditions was in the mid-80's for a game show pilot recorded at Betty White Studios called "TV Classics...The $100,000 TV Trivia Game Show". The pilot was being produced for a Canadian broadcasting outlet and featured Alan Hale Jr. as the host. This was Rich's first encounter with a bona fide celebrity.
  • When Rich first arrived in California he used to sleep in his car, an orange 1979 Ford Pinto due to not having much money.
  • Shares the same birthday with the late Dick Clark.
