Jude Law's latest film, The Order, received a seven-minute standing ovation at the Venice International Film Festival and promises to be one of the best movies of the year. While much of the attention went to the film's leading man, Law's co-stars and director also enjoyed the celebration-like reception of the crime thriller, which is based on a true story. The Order is director Justin Kurzel's latest drama and stars Law alongside Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sebastian Pigott, Jurnee Smollett, Huxley Fisher, and Marc Maron, among others.
Per a report from the event via Variety, the premiere in Venice resonated with the audience, who cheered for the director and cast for seven whole minutes (some reports put the number as high as eight), during a standing ovation that would likely have lasted longer if the cast and crew hadn't exited the theater. Doctor Who has a fine tradition of casting excellent guest stars right from the start. The black and white years were graced by high calibre thespians such as Julian Glover in The Crusade and well known actors such as Peter Butterworth as the Meddling Monk and Bernard Bresslaw as Varga the Ice Warrior. The colour years were also graced by some classy guest artists. Who could forget Philip Madoc’s Solon in The Brain of Morbius or Tony Bentley’s sublime Harrison Chase in The Seeds of Doom? Even when the show was regarded to be on its last legs, it could boast talent such as Ian Hogg, Honor Blackman, Pamela Salem and Sheila Hancock.
Since its revival, NuWho has managed to garner an even more impressive roster of talent. From Derek Jacobi’s one off Master, Hugh Bonneville’s pirate captain, Dougray Scott’s professor and Sarah Parish’s unforgettable Racnoss Queen,...

Chicago – Rife with corruption and injustice, the setting for “Broken City” could have been picked from a litter of U.S. metropolitans. Said star Mark Wahlberg in a recent red-carpet interview with HollywoodChicago.com, it’s not Chicago.
Rating: 2.5/5.0
The Windy City most certainly isn’t “broken,” Wahlberg says, though he did highlight our issues with gang violence and the inner city – adding that he’s vehemently behind Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel.
Instead, “Broken City” centers on New York City. Director Allen Hughes said in our Jan. 6, 2013 red-carpet interview – amid a mob of Chicago fans – that the backdrop of The Big Apple was chosen because it’s “modern-day Rome”.
Read Adam Fendelman’s full review of “Broken City”.
He added: “It’s emblematic of the world and represents our capitol.” Hughes says he chose the project because it’s strongly “character and narrative based”. When asked about honest politicians and whether they exist,...

On the Road movie reedited for Toronto screening Based on Jack Kerouac's '50s novel, Walter Salles' Otr adaptation starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart (above photo) will be screened at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. We all knew that. What we didn't know is that Tiff 2012 will unveil a new cut of the film (via indieWIRE), which premiered last spring at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews. The 2hr20m drama has been downsized to approximately 125 minutes. That's an interesting development, as Otr has already been screened in several countries, with varying degrees of box-office success. [Check out the On the Road trailer. Check out Kristen Stewart On the Road poster; Garrett Hedlund On the Road poster.] Otr movie reedit hardly unique On the other hand, different cuts shown in different countries is hardly something new. Whether as a result of poor critical/box-office reception, (perceived) local sensibilities, and/or censorship, the movie you watch in, say, Canada isn't necessarily the exact same movie watched by someone in Singapore,...

Given the nature of the film, and the nature of a sequel that makes no sense given its title, the news that one of the actors from The Last Exorcism is coming back for the next installment could be considered spoiler-ish, so proceed with caution. The first film was a mixed bag that erred on the good side with strong performances from Patrick Fabian (who finally broke out of his Saved By the Bell: The College Years pigeonhole), the newcomer Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr, Tony Bentley as a calm-headed pastor, and Caleb Landry Jones and Louis Herthum in hard-wrought roles as the only family of the affected girl. The strangeness of making The Next Last Exorcism aside, especially considering the ending, Bloody Disgusting is reporting that (at least) one of these actors will be back. That actor is Ashely Bell, who was hellacious as the young woman stricken by the devil. It...

Priest who has been doubting the relevancy of exorcism heads out to a small town farm to help a supposedly possessed teenage girl rid herself of the demons that plague her, but the priest becomes too involved with the family and in over his head.
In "The Last Exorcism" the characters involved in the film are being filmed by a documentary film crew. The film is aiming to be a realistic portrait of a series of events. Too often does the film feel hokey or unconvincing. For the most part these is no intimacy in relation to the connection between viewer and character. Again for the most part there is no immediacy to the series of events in the film as they are unfolding.

Chicago – His face is inviting, but his intentions are ambiguous and perhaps somewhat devious. That’s precisely the type of character that Patrick Fabian has mastered. He’s lent disarming charisma to a variety of characters, from the self-righteously scheming man of faith in “Big Love” to the flamboyantly sleazy car company executive in “Pushing Daisies.”
Though he’s been delivering memorable work in film and television since 1992, Daniel Stamm’s documentary-style horror flick “The Last Exorcism” marks Fabian’s first major film role. As Cotton Marcus, a redemption-seeking minister taping his own faux-exorcisms, Fabian goes toe-to-toe with Ashley Bell, who’s eerily convincing as the seemingly possessed farm girl, Nell Sweetzer. In light of the film’s Jan. 4 release on Blu-Ray and DVD, Fabian spoke with Hollywood Chicago about the spooky side of religion, experimenting on camera and his opinion about the film’s much-debated ending.

Whoa, what a way to start the new year! After several weeks of desolate conditions in terms of horror title releases, the floodgate just burst open.
This is the week you may want to think about using up those giftcards and cash you got from returning your holiday presents. Major releases are vying for your greenbacks alongside re-releases in Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D (in case Santa brought you a 3D TV recently), and other more independent titles. In addition to movies, there's also a Buffy motion comic and the next volume of a vampire's diary in paperback.

There are at least three major horror releases coming out this week, with Bitter Feast, The Last Exorcism and Case 39. Some will cringe at these titles, while others will jump in horrific delight. The independent feature Bitter Feast from director Joe Maggio releases January 4th on DVD and Blu-Ray. This is a tale of revenge, as one chef gives a scathing food critic and blogger his just desserts. This film will release through Dark Sky Films. Other films also release January 4th.
The Eli Roth (Hostel) produced The Last Exorcism did very well at the box office considering its meager $2 million price tag. Yet, movie critics have been ambivalent, with comments like "a nice surprise" (San Francisco Chronicle), "[the film] is thoroughly engrossing until it loses its way about three-quarters in" (USA Today), and "the film’s docu-style and credible improv acting lay the foundation for an eerie and believable horror movie" (Chicago Tribune). This is the review for The Last Exorcism, directed by Daniel Stamm and starring Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Louis Herthum, Iris Bahr, Caleb Landry Jones and Tony Bentley. Written by Pure Movies writer Suki Ferguson. This slightly tongue-in-cheek horror takes us modern cynics at our word, and presents us with an exorcist who no more believes in demons than Richard Dawkins believes in deities. In deepest Louisiana, we meet the Reverend Cotton Marcus (Patrick Fabian) - a genial fraud who charms believers as thoroughly as he cons them. It’s not that he’s lost faith in what he does; he simply never believed to begin with. Imagine, if you can, a handsome American version of our beloved Jeremy Kyle, working his magical bulls*** on unsuspecting Deep South hicks. You get the drift.

Facts of interest: Produced by Eli Roth.
The plot: A minister trying to expose exorcism as a fraud is followed by a documentary crew while he heads out to perform one final exorcism.
Our thoughts: Yes, I finally found the time to check out Daniel Stamm’s box office hit “The Last Exorcism,” and no, the film didn’t disappoint. Okay, it didn’t exactly win me over either, but I admit I mostly enjoyed watching this low-budget horror thriller about a minister who heads to a spooky farm to perform his final exorcism.

The Last Exorcism movie delivered creepy, thrilling suspense. Lionsgate released their new horror, thriller flick "The Last Exorcism" into theaters this weekend. It featured a lot of weird, suspenseful, creepy scenes that left me on the edge of my seat. It stars: Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell,Louis Herthum, and Tony Bentley. "The Last Exorcism" revolved around Patrick Fabian's character Cotton Marcus who is a supposed Reverend that performs fake exorcisms for money. On this last trip,he decides to tape his whole experience, and reveal what he actually does to fool these people. However, this new experience is one he'll never forget. He arrives at the Louis Sweetzer (Louis Herthum) farm. The town is full of people who believe in crazy demon...

The documentary-like horror film The Last Exorcism debuted to $9.4 million on Friday. However, based solely on the reaction in my theater, I have doubts about how well the film is going to hold up in a world where reactions spread at the speed of a Twitter bird. The reason? That sudden ending. I actually dug the ending for reasons I’ll explain below, but my fellow moviegoers loudly voiced their disapproval. As soon as the end credits appeared, my audience groaned while a few individuals let out chants of “What?” and “Bulls–t!” Were people merely disappointed that the movie...

The young actress discusses her role as a possessed teen in the creepy new horror film from producer Eli Roth
Devil worshiping and possessed people have always made for great subjects in horror movies. From classic films like Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist to recent hits like The House of the Devil, creepy religion and possessed demons have never gone out of style. Evidence of this can be found in the new horror film from producer Eli Roth (Hostel) titled The Last Exorcism, which opens in theaters on August 27th.
The film, which stars Patrick Fabian (Must Love Dogs), Louis Herthum (I Love You Phillip Morris) and Ashley Bell (State of Play), centers around a Reverend who has lost his faith in the church and takes a documentary film crew along with him to prove that exorcism is a fraud. Except things get out of control when he tries to...

Hey folks. Brian Gallagher here with a look at all the crazy news that wasn't exactly fit for print this week. We have a lot to get through this week so lets kick things off with several news items about 3D evil fishies.
Piranha 3D Controversy, Lunacy and Hilarity- via The Hollywood Reporter, The Los Angeles Times and Funny or Die
The craziest movie of the summer, Piranha 3D, opened in theaters this weekend to some dissapointing box office numbers but the film was making plenty of waves last week before the film debuted. First, The Hollywood Reporter got a hold of a threatening letter from all-around jackass Joe Francis' legal counsel to The Weinstein Company. See, Jerry O'Connell plays a character named Derrick Jones, a soft-core pornographer who is loosely based on Francis and his Girls Gone Wild franchise (the film's version is Wild Wild Girls). It's rather...

Lionsgate has debuted two TV spots and two clips from the upcoming film The Last Exorcism, which will be unleashed in theaters everywhere on August 27, 2010.
When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, the Reverend Cotton Marcus expects to perform just another routine “exorcism” on a disturbed religious fanatic. An earnest fundamentalist, Sweetzer has contacted the charismatic preacher as a last resort, certain his teenage daughter Nell is possessed by a demon who must be exorcized before their terrifying ordeal ends in unimaginable tragedy.
Buckling under the weight of his conscience after years of parting desperate believers with their money, Cotton and his crew plan to film a confessionary documentary of this, his last exorcism. But upon arriving at the already blood drenched family farm, it is soon clear that nothing could have prepared him for the true evil he encounters there. Now, too late to turn back,...

The Reverend Cotton Marcus takes us behind-the-scenes of this year's most terrifying demon possession
As we get closer to August, one film is slowly building buzz as the must see horror experience of the summer. Daniel Stamm's The Last Exorcism, which was produced by the infamous Eli Roth, has been picking up strong word of mouth from advanced audiences and critics alike. The film follows renown exorcist Reverend Cotton Marcus, a shame artist and spiritual healer not quite on the up and up. The man sets out to document his last "fake" exorcism and expose himself as a phony in the process. When he arrives on the rural Louisiana farm of Louis Sweetzer, Reverend Marcus expects to find another exaggerated, routine "demon" possession taking place in the disoriented mind of Sweetzer's daughter Nell. But upon entering the blood-drenched farm house where this supposed "possession" has taken place, Cotton soon...

The MPAA announced today that they've given Lionsgate's The Last Exorcism a PG-13 rating "for disturbing violent content and terror, some sexual references and thematic material." Before you get your panties in a bunch, the MPAA typically gives an R when a film is loaded with vulgarities and violence. Is this bad thing? Probably not. You be the judge. After premiering at the Laff this coming Thursday, the Eli Roth produced horror flick opens wide on August 27. Patrick Fabian, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Ashley Bell, Tony Bentley, Caleb Jones, Shanna Forrestall, Allen Boudreaux, Denise Lee, Becky Fly, Logan Craig Reid, Jamie Alyson Caudle all star in the Daniel Stamm directed pic.

Newmarket Films may be the company bringing this movie to theatersDeadline New York is reporting that Luc Besson's EuropaCorp has removed I Love You Phillip Morris from Consolidated Pictures Group.
In addition to this, Newmarket Films might be releasing the Jim Carrey/Ewan McGregor film this fall.
Consolidated Pictures Group is apparently being "dropped because it failed to meet any of the financial obligations of a deal that included a $3 million minimum guarantee" on the film. EuropaCorp turned in a finished movie 90 days ago, then sent Consolidated Pictures Group a letter in mid-March warning them that they could lose the picture if they didn't abide by the contract. They finally lost it on April 1.
The release date on the film was rescheduled several times and eventually it was taken off Consolidated Picture Group's release schedule.
"We're the distributors right now, we have a contract and we're asking Europa to deliver certain things.
