Since its release in April 2025, "Sinners" has proven to be a box-office behemoth and a bona fide mainstream hit. However, along with its more conventional accolades, it has also solidified a spot in the niche but expanding canon of unconventional vampire movies. Sure, Ryan Coogler's horror flick revels in its blood and guts, but if you were to watch the first hour alone, you wouldn't realize you were watching a vampire movie. The word "vampire" isn't even dropped until well over an hour in. Those qualities don't even address the vampires themselves, which are far from the caped and cowled creepers of gothic staples like "Dracula" or "Dark Shadows."
For the record, we're not complaining. Most folks associate the vampire with horror movies and period pieces, but this fanged, folkloric creature is far more malleable than you might realize. For every remake of "Nosferatu," there's a "Reinfeld" or an "El Conde" or an "Abigail,...

Movie characters often wear absurd and humorous costumes to attend parties, and in some cases these looks can become more iconic than their everyday clothes. Not all movies can pull off a funny costume, since the jokes have to work in-universe and on-screen. This strips away the layer of ironic detachment that many comedies use, in which the characters don't know that what they're doing is funny.
Funny movie costumes mostly show up in comedies, since there aren't many dramas which can spend time on a joke or a costume party. However, it's often the case that these are exactly the types of movies which provide the best opportunities for a funny costume, because audiences aren't expecting it, so it has even more of an impact. Some surprisingly emotional dramas have had funny character costumes just like comedies.

Spoiler Alert: The following reveals a major plot point from tonight’s episode of FX’s What We Do In The Shadows.
FX’s What We Do In The Shadows featured Alexander Skarsgard in tonight’s episode “Come Out and Play.” He was dressed in all black and wore vampire fangs, much like his True Blood character Eric Northman did across the HBO show’s 7 seasons.
Of his appearance, Skarsgaard shared, “I’m afraid I have no recollection of shooting this episode as Dr. Laszlo Cravensworth [Matt Barry] apparently hypnotized me at the wrap party. But I did wake up with an intense physical attraction to Dr. Cravensworth and found his extraordinary wit, charm and intelligence absolutely disarming. I have since started a YouTube fan page for him. It’s called ‘Because you’re Cravens-worth it’ Please like, follow and subscribe.”

Note: The following story contains spoilers from “What We Do in the Shadows” Season 6, Episode 9.
From its first season, “What We Do in the Shadows” has been a show unafraid to cheekily drop big names, especially if the actors in question have a vampire on their IMDb page. And in its final season, the FX comedy embraced its chaotic, star-studded side once more.
“Come Out and Play” once again finds the Staten Island crew among the many, many, many throngs of vampires that inhabit New York, from the Meatpacking hotties to the aspiring artist vampires who have to hold down day jobs as baristas. But there’s one especially tall, pale and questioning vamp that may have caught viewers’ eyes. Here’s your guide to the “True Blood” star who’s casually in this latest season.

From its humble beginnings as a passion project made by director Michael Duignan and a group of dedicated Kiwi collaborators, The Paragon takes audiences on a quirkily delightful adventure. Working with a tiny budget of only $15,000 US dollars, the film never lets its financial limitations hold back its boundless imagination.
We’re introduced to Dutch, a grumpy ex-tennis pro nursing resentment after a hit-and-run accident destroyed his career. Seeking vengeance, he joins forces with mystical seer Lyra to learn psychic abilities and track down the elusive vehicle. But far greater forces are at work—Lyra is in a battle with her evil brother Haxan, who aims to control an all-powerful crystal. The fate of the universe hangs in the balance, whether Dutch cares to notice or not.

The new Australian reboot of The Office has become a smash hit for Prime Video, despite some intense backlash from the sitcom's die-hard fan base. Starring Felicity Ward, the new series takes place at the Aussie packaging company, Finley Craddick, who are trying to bounce back after the Covid pandemic forced everyone to work from home. The new show stars a female lead (which fans are way more upset about than they have any right to be), and Australian counterparts for all your favorite Dunder Mifflin employees.
According to statistics released by Amazon, The Office Au has shattered international viewing figures for Prime Video. The reboot shot to the number one spot in its resident country of Australia, and has held the coveted position since its release on October 18, 2024. The show also reached the Top 10 in over 100 countries, including New Zealand and Singapore. While the new reboot has been a...

The showrunner of What We Do in the Shadows has revealed the major goal they were able to accomplish in season 6. The FX mockumentary show, which stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou, and Mark Proksch as Staten Island-based vampire roommates Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja, and Colin Robinson, alongside Harvey Guilln as the human familiar Guillermo, is based on the 2014 New Zealand movie of the same name by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement. What We Do in the Shadows season 6, which premiered with three episodes on October 21, will be the final season of the show.
Screen Rant had the opportunity to sit down for an interview with What We Do in the Shadows showrunner Paul Simms to discuss season 6. He revealed that the season was not necessarily fulfilling any long-term goals because each time they develop a season, they "use up everything we have." However, for the final season they got...

The latest remake of beloved sitcom The Office features its first female lead, with Felicity Ward starring as the new boss, Hannah Howard. The idea of another remake, and a female-led one at that, has led to certain section of society (otherwise known as sexists) flat-out rejecting the series, as well as resulting in a lot of backlash online. As is sadly the way these days. Now, in an interview with THR, Ward has responded directly to the negative reaction directed at both the show and her in the lead role, saying, Ive been a stand-up comedian for 16 years. Ive had this sh*t before, like that just exists.
I mean, its like everyones asking me Do you feel the pressure? And Ive heard that 40 times in the last week. Are you feeling pressure, Felicity? Are you getting the pressure? What do you think of the pressure? Hows the pressure getting to you?...

The Office remake star Felicity Ward explains how her version of the series is different from the American and British versions. Ward plays Hannah Howard in the Australian version of The Office, which released on Prime Video in Australia and multiple other nations today. In addition to Ward, Australia's The Office features a leading cast including Edith Poor, Steen Raskopoulos, Shari Sebbens, Jonny Brugh, Josh Thomson, Raj Labade, and Susan Lin Young. It does not yet have a release date for the Prime Video launch in the United States.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Ward speaks on how the Australian version of The Office compares with the previous version. According to the actor, "Hannah is more similar to Michael Scott" than David Brent if one compares the Australian show with both the UK and US versions. She also mentions that "the show itself has more space," comparing it to the...

The Office remake star Felicity Ward comments on the backlash towards her gender-swapped manager character, Hannah Howard. Based on the hit BBC show created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, the American version of The Office aired on NBC from 2005 to 2013, with Steve Carell's Michael Scott serving as the centerpiece of the show. Now, in addition to a reboot of The Office, an Australian remake of the show has now arrived on Prime Video, following Howard as she manages a struggling branch of Flinley Craddick.
In a recent interview with THR, Ward addresses the backlash to the Australian remake of The Office, and her character, in particular. Ward ultimately isn't fazed by the vitriol, revealing that, as a female stand up comedian, she's been dealing with situations like this for years. She also, however, reveals that she understands why some feel the need to lash out, sympathizing with what...

“New Office. New Aussie boss.”
That’s the tagline for the new Australian version of The Office, that launches Oct. 18 on Amazon Prime Video everywhere, except the U.S. The latest iteration — the thirteenth different country version of the BBC workplace sitcom created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant that incredibly first hit screens in 2001 — has garnered a lot of chatter on social media, YouTube and in the global press, not least because it is another accessible English-language adaptation that follows the beloved British and U.S. versions, but also because it is the first adaptation that features a female boss.
The set-up to the Aussie Office follows the tried and tested franchise formula: the mockumentary style, the boredom, the assortment of odd ball characters, the will-they-won’t-they office romance, and of course the overconfident, delusional boss lacking in self awareness. Australian standup comedian and actress Felicity Ward heads the cast of the Aussie Office,...

No! God! No! God! Please! No! Yes, The Office has been remade once again, this time in Australia. Prime Video is at the helm of the latest take, transporting audiences to a new office with a new boss in Felicity Wards Hannah Howard, who gets word that her branch will be shut down to work remotely. The idea of another remake of the hit sitcom was not met well by fans, and the reviews are now in, so how does The Office Australia fare against both the award-winning British original and its beloved U.S. counterpart?
We begin with a scathing review from Luke Buckmaster of The Guardian, who gives the remake just 1/5 and calls the series an edgeless reboot doomed for the shredder.
The Office Australia is so lacking in distinctive flavour, and so adherent to such a generic format, that it feels like it belongs to nowhere. Perhaps even nowhen,...

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s The Office has been remade once again, this time in Australia. Here’s the trailer.
Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s original version of The Office launched on the BBC in 2001. It introduced the world to boss from hell David Brent (Gervais) as he attempted to look good in front of the cameras documenting his workplace, paper merchants Wernham Hogg, alongside staff including Tim (Martin Freeman) Gareth (Mackenzie Crook) and Dawn (Lucy Davis).
All while trying to stay onside with bullying best mate Chris Finch (Ralph Ineson) and, in the second series, his new boss from the Swindon branch, Neil (Patrick Baladi).
Gervais and Merchant took cringe comedy to the extreme, with Brent becoming a byword for social awkwardness and inappropriate behaviour.
Since then, there have been 13 international versions, with Greg Daniels’ American version starring Steve Carrell being far and away the most successful,...

Comedian and actor Felicity Ward is the first woman to play the iconic lead role, 23 years after the series first debuted with the British version with Ricky Gervais as David Brent.
The highly-anticipated Australian version is the thirteenth adaptation of the global hit franchise and follows the employees at a packaging company, Flinley Craddick in Sydney.
When Hannah gets news from the Head Office that they will be shutting down her branch and making everyone work from home, she goes into survival mode, making promises she can’t keep in order to keep her “work family” together. The Office is back! Well, a version of it.
Amazon Prime Video has released the first trailer to the Australian adaptation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s enduring classic comedy series The Office, and we finally get a proper glimpse at the Aussie variants of Brent, Tim, Dawn, Gareth and more.
With NBC’s follow-up to the U.S. adaptation of The Office still in development, global fans of the franchise can sate themselves in the meantime with an Aussie attempt at the mockumentary-style comedy.
Just one (big) catch, though: The Office Australia will be available on Prime Video in 240 countries and territories worldwide from Oct. 18, except, that is, in the U.S. That’s nothing a Vpn can’t fix, however, if you’re really keen.

Time Bandits star Lisa Kudrow recently shared that Taika Waititi slid into her DMs to ask her if she would star in the Apple TV+ series. According to the former Friends star, getting her to sign on to the fantasy adventure project didn't take much convincing.
In an interview with Collider, Kudrow confirmed reports that Waititi offered her the role of Penelope, leader of the Time Bandits, via a Dm. "I was thrilled. Id met him once at my friends house and had been a huge fan. I just met him really briefly, and then got this [message] that said, 'Hey, would you ever consider working in New Zealand?'" she recalled. "I was like, 'Well, Ive always wanted to go to New Zealand. "You will find the paragon for me!" Doppelgänger Releasing has unveiled an official trailer for a film called The Paragon, made by New Zealand filmmaker Michael Duignan. This wacky lo-fi sci-fi thriller originally premiered at the 2023 New Zealand Film Festival last year, and is getting a theatrical debut in the US this fall. It was shot over 13 days in Auckland, New Zealand on a budget of around $15,000 in US dollars. That's a considerably tiny budget! Yet this still looks pretty damn good. The victim of a hit and run learns how to be psychic so he can find the car that hit him and take revenge on the driver. Everything converges towards the singularity in Michael Duignan's feature film debut, a "hilarious rift in space-time." Starring Benedict Wall, Florence Noble, Jessica Grace Smith, & Jonny Brugh. Reviews say it "gives its all, embracing its DIY nature to deliver a light and breezy sci-fi comedy,...

One of the year’s best examples of resourceful filmmaking, Michael Duignan’s fantasy comedy The Paragon was shot over just 13 days in Auckland, New Zealand for a budget of around $15,000 in U.S. dollars. After premiering to much acclaim at Rotterdam and Fantasia, Music Box Films’ genre label Doppelganger Releasing will now open it to kick off the fall and we’re pleased to exclusively debut the new trailer. The film will specifically open on September 6 in theaters at Alamo Drafthouse locations in NY, LA, Chicago, Denver, Austin, and more, as well as digitally.

For a film about saving the universe from cosmic evil, stakes couldn’t be lower in The Paragon. What begins as a man’s quest for revenge takes a hard left into the occult and psychedelic, but its scope never expands outside of a small-town setting and smaller-minded protagonist. If anything, the film can’t get any bigger if it wanted to; writer-director-editor-cinematographer Michael Duignan shot it in less than two weeks on a budget of $25,000 New Zealand dollars (that’s around $15K in US currency). In other words: the film couldn’t afford corners let alone cut them. But The Paragon gives its all, embracing its DIY nature to deliver a light and breezy sci-fi comedy, and what it lacks in budget it more than compensates for in low-key charm.

In 1981, as the Monty Python sketch comedy troupe approached the end of its most fertile period, Terry Gilliam and Michael Palin co-wrote the feature film Time Bandits, which Gilliam also directed. Though Monty Python’s Flying Circus and some segments of their various movies would be entertaining to kids and adults alike, Time Bandits was pitched at a younger audience and, according to an essay by Bruce Eder at Criterion.com, became “the most critically well-received children’s film in nearly two decades.”
For some Gen Xers who saw it as children, Time Bandits was a formative event: a fantasy story that didn’t hold back on physical or emotional violence, and (spoilers ahead for a 40+-year-old movie) had no compunction about giving the young protagonist’s terrible parents an unambiguously punitive ending.

Found footage is a horror movie genre that has always teetered on the line between fact and fiction, using techniques like handheld cameras and unscripted dialogue to add an extra level of authenticity to the film. Horror films like The Blair Witch Project and Cannibal Holocaust proved how convincing the concept of found footage can be, leading their audiences to believe the events seen on screen actually happened. A subgenre of found footage, known as mockumentaries, is made in the style of a documentary. These features analyze a fictitious person or event using "personal recorded footage" and "interviews" as a means to tell their stories.
The mockumentary format has been used in a variety of film genres. However, horror has been able to effectively use this setup to a point where it would not be a stretch to stream one of these movies and believe that everything unfolding on screen has happened.

What We Do in the Shadows is currently well into its fifth season, and as always, it's filled with hilarious mischief, shenanigans, and problems Guillermo de la Cruz (Harvey Guillén) has to get Laszlo Cravensworth (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), Nandor The Relentless (Kayvan Novak), and Colin Robinson (Mark Proksch) out of. With all the crazy schemes that the gang gets into, they meet some interesting people, leading to plenty of wild guest appearances to watch out for that will pique audiences' interest. The show has had many cool cameos, such as Taika Waititi, Jonathan Brugh, Jemaine Clement, Wesley Snipes, and Tilda Swinton from the original movie who come back for a council meeting of the minds. Another recent example is from Season 4, when Jim Jarmusch and Sofia Coppola played themselves as celebrities who came to Nadja's Nightclub. But the best cameo up to this point in What We Do in the Shadows...

Prime Video Australia is developing a remake of The Office, which will focus on a female manager this time around. Based on Ricky Gervais' and Stephen Merchant's short-lived British comedy of the same name, The Office first premiered on NBC in 2005 before coming to an end in 2013 after nine seasons. Both the American and British versions of the show followed eccentric managers, played respectively by Gervais and Steve Carrell, at struggling paper companies.
Now, per Deadline, Gervais' original premise is set to be adapted once more, with Prime Video Australia working on a new version of The Office starring comedian Felicity Ward as Hannah Howard, the manager at packaging company Flinley Craddick. The synopsis for the show reveals that Howard will go to great lengths to keep her "work family" together after news comes down from Head Office that her branch is being shut down in favor of a work-from-home model.

When looking back on his career, Kiefer Sutherland addresses why Joel Schumacher's vampire film The Lost Boys is a career favorite of his due to a touching reason. The 1987 supernatural black comedy horror centered on two brothers and their mother as they moved in with their eccentric grandfather in the coastal town of Santa Monica before soon finding themselves entangled in the lives of a group of young vampires. Sutherland portrayed David Powers, the leader of the vampire biker gang that older brother Michael Emerson (Jason Patric) is drawn into upon arriving in the town.

It's been nearly ten years since New Zealand writer-director-actors Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi released What We Do in the Shadows in 2014. The film is shot in a mockumentary style, combining interviews with its main characters and cinéma vérité style filming. Since then, the world has been given two TV spinoffs that have created a vampire universe that seems to expand from Wellington to Staten Island and beyond. The What We Do in the Shadows film featured several vampires, namely, Viago (Waititi), Vlad (Clement), and Deacon (Jonathan Brugh). Both the show and movie are full of sardonic humor that pokes at historic events its main characters have lived through and the misadventures that accompany vampire roommates, like when your vampire roommate doesn't do the (literal) bloody dishes. What We Do in the Shadows is that niche form of entertainment that manages to merge fantasy with real-world issues in a way that feels perfectly stitched together.
