Monterey Media takes The Pardon

The distributor has acquired Us and Canadian rights to the true-life drama starring Jaime King.

Tom Anton’s film is based on the story of Toni Jo Henry, the first woman to be executed in the state of Louisiana in 1942. John Hawkes also stars.

Monterey’s Scott Mansfield negotiated the deal with Shoreline Entertainment’s Sam Eigen and Brian Sweet.

“I was fascinated when film-maker Tom Anton brought us this lovingly recreated and compelling story,” said Mansfield. “Since 1903 50 women have ever been executed in the Us. By comparison, since 1976, almost 1,400 men have been put to death.”...

Monterey Media has acquired all U.S. and Canadian rights to "The Pardon," a true crime drama based on the story of the only woman ever executed in the state of Louisiana. The film stars Jaime King ("Sin City: A Dame To Kill For," "Heart of Dixie") and Oscar-nominee John Hawkes ("Winter's Bone," "The Sessions"). The film's official synopsis reads: "Surviving a legacy of childhood abuse, which lands her in the art deco brothels of the time, Toni Jo Henry (King) briefly discovers love and happiness when she marries the dashing boxer Cowboy Henry (Jason Lewis). Cowboy is soon after sent to prison, leaving the bereft Toni Jo to embark on an ill-fated mission with Cowboy's sometime partner Arkie (John Hawkes). Monterey Media has acquired U.S. and Canada rights to The Pardon, which follows the true story of Toni Jo Henry (Jaime King), a woman tried three times and executed in 1942 Louisiana. After her dashing boxer husband Cowboy Henry (Jason Lewis) is sent to prison, Toni Jo embarks on an ill-fated mission with Cowboy’s partner Arkie (Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes). A grisly murder and a series of sensational trials where Toni Jo pleads her innocence instantly turn her into a celebrity of the day. The Pardon is directed by Tom Anton and was co-written by Sandi Russell and Anton. The acquisition deal was negotiated between Shoreline Entertainment’s Sam Eigen & Brian Sweet, and Monterey Media’s Scott Mansfield. A late spring theatrical release is planned.

Shoreline nabs Pardon for Efm
Exclusive: Shoreline Entertainment has acquired world sales rights heading into Berlin to Pardon starring John Hawkes and Jamie King.

Tom Anton directed the drama that also starsn Jason Lewis and co-wrote the screenplay with Sandi Russell.

Pardon takes place against the backdrop of the glamorous 1940s as the nation is gripped by the trial of the only woman ever sentenced to die by electric chair in Louisiana.

Chandler Warren negotiated the deal with Sam Eigen and Melody Djavadi of Shoreline Entertainment.

Shoreline’s 7 Boxes premieres theatrically in North America this month and A Farewell To Fools starring Harvey Keitel and Gérard Depardieu will launch theatrically in North America in spring.

King lands first chair for 'Pardon'
Jaime King will star in The Pardon opposite Jason Lewis. Tom Anton is directing the indie period drama, which is being produced by Rand Falbaum.

Based on true events, Pardon centers on Toni Jo Henry (King), the first and only woman to be executed by the state of Louisiana, and the sensational case that resulted in her electrocution. Anton co-wrote the script with Sandi Russell.

Filming is under way in Shreveport, La.

King, best known for such movies as Sin City and Pearl Harbor, most recently completed the horror movie They Wait and next appears in the upcoming Weinstein Co. film Fanboys, directed by Kyle Newman.

She is repped by WMA, Flutie Entertainment and Myman, Abell, Fineman, Fox, Greenspan & Light.
