Although it's undeniably a horror game, Slitterhead plays a lot more like an action RPG, in which players live or die by the strength of their party members. There's a good reason for all that bloodshed: Slitterhead is the work of multiple Team Silent alumni, including series creator Keiichiro Toyama and longtime sound designer Akira Yamaoka. Even so, Slitterhead has a lot more in common with Toyama's later works, with clear shades of Siren and Gravity Rush coming through in its gameplay.
To that end, most of what players will be doing in Slitterhead involves hopping from body to body, possessing different people and using their unique abilities to solve puzzles and fight grotesque enemies. When it comes to fighting, no one's better than its eight Rarities, extra-special humans with strong wills who are able to summon bloody weapons in battle, maintaining a shred of their free will even when possessed by Hyoki.

Silent Hill and Siren creator Keiichiro Toyama‘s first title out of the gate under Bokeh Game Studio in Slitterhead is finally out today for those of you looking for a little more action horror. The release coincides with a new video released by Bokeh Game Studio that features Slitterhead Director Junya Okura to discuss not only the mechanics of the game, but to also reflect on just how the project got here after four years.
“It is incredibly challenging to create a new studio and game, and we faced no shortage of unexpected obstacles throughout development. Our team looked this challenge in the face and have persevered, and we feel a sense of joy that we can present this game to fans,” said Bokeh Game Studio Founder and Creator Keiichiro Toyama.

People in the gaming world were very excited when famous game designer Keiichiro Toyama chose to leave his previous studios and start Bokeh Game Studio. The conclusion of Silent Hill: Ascension, the free Short Message, and the excellent remake of Silent Hill 2 all were released in 2024, and now Silent Hill is coming into the conversation in a different way. Curious things are afoot for fans of Sony’s dormant Siren series. A new rating for Siren has appeared on the Korean Media Ratings Board website, where games (such as last year’s Quake II remaster) were leaked prior to their official announcement.
Dated September 26, the Korean Ratings Board (obviously) lists Siren as being “not suitable for minors”, which is a given, seeing as the game was rating Mature when it was released for the PlayStation 2 back in 2004 in North America.
According to Push Square, however, fans should temper their expectations with this reveal, as it may just be an update to the emulated PS2 version. This version of Siren was already available in most regions, but is not yet available in Korea. Speaking of which, you can download Siren from the PlayStation Store.
Still, it’s been over 20 years since Siren first launched in Japan, and definitely deserves a revisit.

Bokeh Game Studio are switching things up a bit with the impending release of their action-horror title Slitterhead. Their new video is a developer diary (the first in a series of behind-the-scenes videos) titled “Kowlong Express: Bringing Forgotten Fragments into Slitterhead”, which follows Slitterhead creator Keiichiro Toyama as he revisits locations that lingered in his memories for decades and became the inspiration for the game’s setting.

Bokeh Game Studio has released a new behind-the-scenes development video for their upcoming Survival Horror title Slitterhead, showcasing the motion capture development the team is doing for the project. On top of that, the studio has also taken to X to start tongues wagging regarding the potential involvement of Junji Ito with Slitterhead.
For starters, the video features narration by members of the motion capture team, including Cutscene Director Minoru Kusakabe, who has previous experience working with Bokeh Game Studio’s Keiichiro Toyama for Forbidden Siren and the Gravity Rush series. “Toyama came over to me again when he funded Bokeh Game Studio. “Return to Silent Hill,” a horror film based on the classic Konami survival/horror video game series, is in development. The news was announced at the end of a livestream dedicated to announcing new titles in the franchise.
Christophe Gans, who directed 2006’s “Silent Hill,” based on the first game in the series, was confirmed to direct the film. He appeared in a video message during the livestream to discuss the project. In addition, Victor Hadida, who executive produced the 2006 film, will produce “Return.” Gans confirmed that the movie would adapt the second game in the franchise, which was announced to receive an upcoming remake for the Playstation 5 during the same livestream.
“The film tells a story of a young guy coming back to Silent Hill, where he has known a great love,” Gans said during the livestream. “And what he is going to find is a pure nightmare.”

Silent Hill is currently dead. After Hideo Kojima’s Silent Hills was canned, there’s been no news of a follow-up, despite the perpetual unfounded rumors of Sony buying the IP and/or Konami resurrecting it. As a longtime fan, this state of affairs is intensely frustrating, especially as Resident Evil moves from strength to strength and we got a tantalizing taste of a current-gen Silent Hill via the amazing P.T. demo.
But there’s a bit of news that’s broken recently that might show some light at the end of the tunnel. Keiichiro Toyama, who created the series and went on to mastermind the similarly excellent Siren franchise, has announced a new horror title.
