J. Period Teases Dave Chappelle, Lin-Manuel Miranda Features in Album Trailer

DJ/producer J. Period has released a new animated trailer for his upcoming debut album, Story to Tell (Chapter One), set to arrive April 30th.

The clip features audio from the previously released song, “All in Your Head,” which features Dave Chappelle, Black Thought, and Tiffany Gouché. Made by Stellar Hawk and illustrator Dan Lish, the video offers a vibrant preview of the album and its many guests, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Jemele Hill, Shad, Bobbito Garcia, Joell Ortiz, Crazy Legs, Mayda Del Valle, Masego, and Garth Trinidad.

Jason Bentley on His Past at Kcrw and Future With ‘Top Gun: Maverick’
The mid-June announcement that Jason Bentley was leaving Kcrw as music director and the host of “Morning Become Eclectic” has been the subject of much speculation. Among the unanswered questions: Where is Bentley going and who will be his replacement? Three months later, we’re not much closer to an answer.

While Bentley has lined up the music supervision job for the forthcoming “Top Gun: Maverick” movie, the nationwide search for the voice of “Morning Becomes Eclectic” continues, with hosting duties for the remainder of 2019 being handled by a revolving crew of Kcrw staples: Anne Litt, Garth Trinidad, Aaron Byrd and Raul Campos. Just ahead of Bentley’s last day, he sat with Variety to look back on his time at the station and ahead to his next adventure.

The Black List celebrated 10 years of bringing screenwriters closer to their dreams at Palihouse in West Hollywood on Sunday evening and unveiled the title that tops the annual list of Hollywood's best unproduced screenplays. After an evening of hors d'oeuvres and entertainment from Kcrw’s DJ Garth Trinidad and Fantastic Negrito, founder Franklin Leonard announced that Kristina Lauren Anderson took the number one spot on this year's list for her screenplay Catherine the Great. National Dance Day in Los Angeles

This past Saturday, crowds gathered nationwide, from Washington D.C. to Chicago, to Los Angeles, to help celebrities from So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing with the Stars celebrate the first National Dance Day. The event was the brainchild of Sytycd's judge and executive producer Nigel Lithgoe who thought the day would help promote healthy living through dance.

We went to the festivities at the Music Center plaza in downtown Los Angeles. It was pretty inspiring and lots of fun. The main event had all the attendees on their feet to get down to a number choreographed by Sytycd's Tabitha and Napoleon Dumo (aka Nappytabs). Leading up to the event Lithgoe had been encouraging everyone to learn the steps for the flashmob dance from the online video demo (and people had been sbmitting videotapes of themselves doing the routine).
