Marvel‘s television division is set to have a major presence at this weekend’s New York Comic-Con, and to prepare fans for the barrage of what’s to come, the studio have now released some awesome comic-style posters for some of their upcoming shows.

First up, the one-sheet for Hulu’s Runaways depicts the inciting incident for the whole series: as Alex, Nico and the rest of the teens discover that their parents are part of a supervillan cult called The Pride. It’s a testament to how faithful the show is to the comics that this image could be lifted straight off the page. It also confirms that Gert’s dinosaur Old Lace will be retained for the small screen.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s upcoming fifth season, meanwhle, is teased with a poster featuring the team against a starfield backdrop, with the S.H.I.E.L.D.

It looks like Freeform and Marvel are sticking together. Marvel are certainly pulling out all the stops in their quest for world domination. And not just over their big screen presence but the small screen as well with their comic book adaptations which have a firm home at streaming service Netflix. The next project coming in the form of Cloak and Dagger, even though not released until next year, has a brand new trailer.

During Freeform’s 2017 Upfront presentation, the network released a number of trailers for its upcoming series, starting with a first look at the hotly anticipated Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger.

The show, set to premiere its 10 episodes in early 2018, tells the story of Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph), two teenagers with newly acquired superpowers that are somehow linked to each other. Joe Pokaski (Heroes) serves as showrunner, with Marvel’s Head of Television, Jeph Loeb, and Jim Chory (Marvel’s The Defenders) as executive producers.

Marvel and Freeform has released the first trailer for their new teen drama series Cloak & Dagger and I really like what I'm seeing. I don't really watch any shows on Freeform so I wasn't really sure what to expect when the series when it was first announced, but this trailer sold me on it! It looks like the kind of show that I'd enjoy watching.

At today’s Freeform Upfront presentation, the network’s upcoming slate of new TV was given a sneak peek. Olivia Holt (Tandy Bowen) and Aubrey Joseph (Tyrone Johnson) become Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger in today’s pulsing first trailer for the coming-of-age superhero story.

Bursting with young romance and teenage angst, the live-action Cloak and Dagger comes from the mind of showrunner Joe Pokaski (Underground, Heroes), who will tell the tale of Tandy (Dagger) and Johnson (Cloak) as they each struggle to wrangle their superhuman abilities under control. As the teaser alludes to, the titular characters have something of a history together, having come into contact with one another as kids. Exactly how that chance (?) meeting filters into the story, though, is still up for question.

Marvel's Cloak And Dagger project may have gone a bit quiet of late, but at least one episode is ready to go...

Marvel's Cloak And Dagger TV show is still set for a winter 2018 release, despite no word on continuing production for the series. The pilot episode is already in the can, however, and its director Gina Prince-Bythewood (Love & Basketball) has been chatting about the importance of bringing diversity to youth-orientated superhero projects.

Marvel’s Cloak meets her Dagger in the first set photos to surface for Freeform’s upcoming Cloak and Dagger series.

Played by Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph, up above you’ll get a preemptive peek at Tandy Bowen (Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Joseph) dressed in civvies and sharing a warm embrace. Filming is already underway in New Orleans, and Marvel and Freeform’s team-up series has been pitched as a coming-of-age romance with a superhero twist, in which Tandy (Dagger) and Johnson (Cloak) struggle to wrangle their superhuman abilities under control.

On the one end of the spectrum, Tandy has the power to emit light daggers on a whim, while Tyrone is able to engulf others in darkness at a moment’s notice. Pretty handy, right? Turns out that’s not the case, and Cloak and Dagger will explore how each character comes to terms with their paranormal powers.

Marvel and Freeform's upcoming Cloak and Dagger TV series began filming this week in New Orleans, and a couple of images from the set have made their way online via the We Are Wakanda Instagram page. While nothing particularly exciting, they do give us a first glimpse of young stars Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph posing for some pics as they prepare to shoot. We're not sure if they're actually in costume as Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson here, as the photos might well have been taken before the pair went to wardrobe - but either way, they probably won't look a whole lot different as the star-crossed lovers... until their superhero makeover, that is. Marvel has yet another TV show in development, and they today announced who will be playing the titular characters! We are of course talking about Cloak & Dagger, a series which is described as a coming-of-age series revolving around Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson.

Despite coming from starkly different backgrounds, each of the heroes grew up with a secret they never dared share with another soul. Once a privileged little girl, Tandy Bowen watched as her family was destroyed by a disastrous storm that uprooted her life. Now in her late teens, an unexpected encounter with a boy named Tyrone sparks a life changing event.

Young Tyrone Johnson wanted nothing more than to prove he was fearless. But when everything he held close was taken away, life taught Tyrone to be afraid. Now older and more sheltered, Tyrone closes himself off. But when he meets a girl named Tandy his life changes forever.

About time we saw some traction on this. We got some new heroes on the block guys and now we know who will be playing the two lead roles.

I reported way back in April that Cloak and Dagger had been greenlit. Look its right here. Well finally we know who our two stars will be. Olivia Holt (Kickin It, The Standoff) will be Tandy Bowen a.k.a. Dagger and Aubrey Joseph (Run All Night, Death Pact) will play Tyrone Johnson a.k.a. Cloak. Executive Producer Joe Pokaski says,

As the onscreen Marvel Universe grows more diverse by the day, it looks as though a particular fan favourite is moving closer to the camera over at the teen-targeted Freeform network. Indeed, Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger announced its lead actors via Deadline on Monday.

Performers Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph have been cast in the respective roles of Dagger/Tandy Bowen and Cloak/Tyrone Johnson. The news comes after five years of development for Cloak & Dagger as a television property at Freeform, dating back to when it the network was still called ABC Family.

Holt is best known to date for starring in Disney Xd’s Kickin’ It and the series I Didn’t Do It; Joseph, meanwhile, appeared in HBO’s The Night Of and the film Run All Night.

Marvel has announced that they've cast the lead roles in their upcoming new series Cloak and Dagger. Actor Aubrey Joseph (The Night Of, Run All Night) has been cast in the role of Tyrone Johnson, a.k.a. Cloak, and former Disney Channel star Olivia Holt (I Didn’t Do It) will play Tandy Bowen, a.k.a. Dagger.

Executive producer and showrunner Joe Pokaski said in a statement:

Deadline has the scoop, confirming that while Noah Gray-Cabey and Debby Ryan were reportedly in the running early on, the superhero roles of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson have fallen to Olivia Holt and Aubrey Joseph. We’ve been hearing quite a bit about Marvel and Freeform’s small screen adaptation of Cloak and Dagger recently, though hardly any of it has actually been officially confirmed just yet. Still, solid sources report that Beyond the Lights director Gina Prince-Bythewood is set to helm the pilot episode, and just last night we heard on good authority that the lead roles of Tyrone Johnson and Tandy Bowen had been cast. Now, we can add some more unconfirmed, but most likely accurate details.

Over the past couple of weeks, That Hashtag Show has debuted character breakdowns for the likes of The Inhumans and New Mutants, and now they reckon they’ve uncovered the descriptions for the two young heroes of Cloak and Dagger:

Tara – Female, 18 to play 17, Caucasian. Tara was a plucky southern girl who grew up with everything. She was always full of light. Then an accident took away everything.

It’s been a bit hit and miss for Marvel when it comes to the small screen. For every knockout like Daredevil, there’s also a letdown like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Not that it’s necessarily a horrible television show, but it certainly hasn’t lived up to its potential and the ratings are proof of that. However, the studio keeps trucking on and in the near future, they’ll be bringing us two new series. One is The Runaways, which is set to debut on Hulu, while the other is Cloak And Dagger, which is coming to Freeform and heads into production next month.

Marvel has found great success on Netflix, but their fortunes have been a little mixed on ABC. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s ratings have plummeted since the series premiere, Agent Carter was cancelled after just two seasons, and the network pulled the plug on Mockingbird spinoff Marvel’s Most Wanted before the pilot even made it to air.

It makes sense then that they’re taking their time with Freeform’s (the rebranded ABC Family) Cloak and Dagger. According to a new report, the show has been pushed back to winter 2018. On the plus side, it does have a showrunner in the form of Joe Pokaski, though he’s writing the pilot’s script from scratch so it obviously needs a bit of work.

Yesterday we learned that Marvel was developing a new TV series based on the comic Cloak and Dagger. The series is coming to Freeform, which was previously known as ABC Family. This news got fans of the property incredibly excited, and they should be! This is a great comic with great characters and it has the potential to be a great series...if it's done right.

The network has since released the following official synopsis for their adaptation:

This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. The branches of the Marvel tree keep growing. Having crossed off the big screen, Netflix, ABC, and FX off their list, the next network to feel its superhero strength is Freeform. Freeform – Disney’s television network, previously known as ABC Family – has given the greenlight to Cloak And Dagger, and it’s big news for the ABC offshoot. While the main network boasts Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter on its roster, and Marvel’s Most Wanted and John Ridley’s Marvel project on its development slate, Freeform has been slower to jump into the superhero pool. Cloak And Dagger will change that, though, bringing a teen romance of super proportions to its younger audience.

Variety reports that another one of the studio's comic book properties, Cloak and Dagger, has been given a straight-to-series order on Freeform, the cable network formerly known as ABC Family. Fans have been waiting for something like the Battle for Quicksilver to happen, ever since it was made clear that the film rights for the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man would not be returning to Marvel Studios anytime soon. Now it seems likely that two versions of the same superhero will be appearing in different franchises, with one or both films not able to fully depict the character as he is in the comics.

At this point it'd help to have a checklist of exactly which studios own what characters, because it's pretty confusing the way it stands right now. Fox owns the X-Men and Fantastic Four, but mutants can apparently appear in Marvel Studios films as long as they're not called mutants (and possibly not called by their code names). Sony owns Spider-Man, and he's not moving studios, not ever. That means we'll never see Norman...
