Living Colour Play Classics During Tiny Desk Concert: Watch
Image
Living Colour are the latest act to play a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR, and the legendary act delivered a five-song set of classics.

The veteran rockers kicked things off with their signature hit “Cult of Personality” from their 1988 debut album Vivid, followed by four songs from their acclaimed 1990 sophomore LP Time’s Up, in celebration of the album’s 35th anniversary.

The longtime lineup of singer Corey Glover, guitarist Vernon Reid, drummer Will Calhoun, and bassist Doug Wimbish played a full-on electric set despite the intimate setting, sounding as powerful as ever. Fans can catch Living Colour supporting George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic this Sunday (June 29th) in Asbury Park, New Jersey (tickets here), and next year on Creed’s Summer of ’99 and Beyond Cruise.

Keith LeBlanc, Influential Drummer and Nine Inch Nails Producer, Dead at 70
Image
Keith LeBlanc, a drummer on several early hip-hop releases and a key producer on albums by Nine Inch Nails and more, has passed away at the age of 70.

The sad news was reported by his record label On-u Sound, with no cause of death revealed.

LeBlanc helped pioneer the early hip-hop sound as a drummer in the Sugarhill House Band alongside bassist Doug Wimbish (Living Colour) and guitarist Skip “Little Axe” McDonald. The three musicians went on to form the industrial hip-hop group Tackhead, who released four albums from 1987 to 2014.

As a producer and mixer, LeBlanc worked with a number of prominent artists, including Nine Inch Nails, Living Colour, Peter Gabriel, The Cure, and Ministry.

He was a major contributor to Nin’s debut album, Pretty Hate Machine, co-producing standout tracks “Head Like a Hole” and “Down in It,” and engineering or mixing several other songs on the LP.

Spoon Goes Dub: Inside the New Remix Project ‘Lucifer on the Moon’
Image
Spoon’s Britt Daniel has always loved gadgets, held a soft spot for studio wizardry. And it’s these tendencies that have helped keep the Austin indie-rock outfit so intriguing and inventive over the last two-and-a-half decades. But for Spoon’s tenth album, Lucifer on the Sofa, Daniel wanted to do away with all of that, and start with just vocals and rhythm guitar. That guiding principle resulted in a stellar rock & roll collection, and made Lucifer one of Spoon’s best records to date.

As it turned out, a stranger,...

Spoon and Sherwood first teased their collaboration back in June with the latter’s “reconstruction” of “My Babe.” The official announcement of the full remix album was accompanied by a new version of “On the Radio,” which arrives with a music video directed by Spoon frontman Britt Daniel.
