PS5 Pro’s Sales Signal It Might Finally Be The Time for Sony to Rethink Their Cash-Grabbing Strategy
Image
The PS5 Pro has been finally revealed after months of rumors, leaks, and speculations. The gaming community anticipated that this beast of a gaming console would be much more expensive than the base model of the PlayStation 5, but not to the extent where it is priced at 700 dollars without a disc drive and a vertical stand that can be purchased separately. Most people expect hardcore gamers to try to secure a pre-order before stocks run low; however, the Pro console does not move units as fast as Sony would have wanted.

Perhaps not everyone is interested in investing in another PlayStation 5 that can do everything a base model or Slim version can do but better. The steep price tag could have been a major factor for the slow sales...

PS5 Pro: A Luxury Console or a Blatant Rip Off?
Image
Sony announced the PS5 Pro earlier this month. For better or worse, everyone was talking about it. Although games do run better on the new model, there are major caveats regarding this mid-generation upgrade. From the eye-watering price tag of $700, to no disc drive included, people are wondering who this console is actually for.

Even to those who don’t own a PS5 yet, coughing up nearly $800 after sales tax is absurd. Is it justified to charging this much or is this thing overpriced? Should mid-generation console upgrades continue to exist?

The new shiny PlayStation has been met with multiple criticisms from the community. For one, the price tag is an immediate eyesore. $200 more than the base/slim model for a whopping $700. Instead of choosing between performance mode or fidelity mode,...

PlayStation 5’s 30th Anniversary Collection Is Amazing, But One Of Sony’s Limited Edition PS4 Released In 2018 Was the True Hype Machine
Image
The PlayStation 5 has been released for the past four years, and the gaming community has taken full advantage of this beast of a gaming machine. The gaming industry has evolved for the past three decades, and Sony Interactive Entertainment wanted to commemorate how far the PlayStation brand has come since 1994. Hideaki Nishino recently revealed a new Collection bundle with the original PlayStation color schemes.

The color scheme heavily resembles the original PlayStation that came out 30 years ago and was a perfect nostalgic touch. Legacy fans may be interested in investing in this limited edition console; however, one other PlayStation was truly ahead of its time from another console generation.

Jim Ryan Wins by Default: Amd-PlayStation 6 Contract Shatters Intel’s Only Hope to Dominate a $282 Billion Industry
Image
Jim Ryan has been the Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment for the past 5 years and is burdened with the glorious purpose of leading the PlayStation brand to the future. The gaming industry is a cut-throat business and major companies should have prepared all the tools and toys game developers would need to manifest their creative vision into reality.

Most game developers want a console that allows them to build worlds in great detail without any technical drawbacks. Ryan wanted to make that dream a reality and allegedly signed a contract with Amd to power the PlayStation 6.

The PS5 Pro’s Biggest Fault Highlights A Massive Problem That Affects All of Media
Image
The PS5 Pro has finally been revealed last week, after months of leaks. It’s got people talking but for all the wrong reasons. The biggest issue is the price point, and the lack of a default disc drive, forcing physical media fans to spend an additional sum for an external drive.

The reveal itself seemed a little baffling, with the lack of any big upcoming exclusive that would usually be showcased along with the console, and the lack of many valuable selling points that would make this upgrade worthwhile to both PS5 and PS4 owners.

At a hefty $700, the console doesn’t even come with a disc drive, which is a huge problem. If you want a disc drive,...

I Can’t Believe Mike Cerny Actually Had the Audacity to Say PS5 Pro Made Amd Develop a “Next Step” Technology Even Amd’s Own GPUs Lack
Image
In the field of console war, there is one aspect in which PlayStation has always left Xbox a thousand miles behind. And that aspect is the hardware configuration. Microsoft’s console company can boast of superior subscription service, but it has a long way to go to catch Sony’s strong hardware setup.

Sony has recently announced the PS5 Pro. | Credit: Sony.

Now that is why games usually run more fluently and look more vivid on the PlayStation 5 as compared to the Xbox Series X (Series S doesn’t even count in the comparison). However, the same thing is going to happen with PS5 Pro, as it will be packed with some of the most high-end GPUs. But the way Sony is marketing it is really awful and an utter disrespect to Amd.

The Only Soulslike PS5 Pro Needed to Seduce the Cult of Miyazaki into Buying it Instead of Demon’s Souls Enhanced
Image
Demon’s Souls received the remake treatment for the PlayStation 5 and it was a successful launch title. Bluepoint Studio faithfully remade the iconic Soulslike and took full advantage of the PlayStation 5 hardware. Sony Interactive Entertainment recently unveiled the official first look of the Pro model after months of leaks, rumors, and speculations. The gaming community expected some first-party titles to get a massive upgrade and this remake is the first of many to receive an enhanced Pro version.

Director Hidetaka Miyazaki was not involved in the remake project. Image Credit: Bluepoint Games

Fans will likely replay the game on the Pro model; however, some players believe another Soulslike game deserves this treatment more. FromSoftware developed countless games in the past few years and one stood out for the gaming community.

From Astro Bot to God of War, Fans Are Wondering if Sony Intentionally Missed out on Its Biggest Hits During the PS5 Pro Showcase

Astro Bot just released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 and the gaming community is wondering why it was absent from Mark Cerny’s presentation.

Team Asobi did a wonderful job highlighting the rich history of Sony Interactive Entertainment and the PlayStation brand, and fans are baffled by the omission of its latest project from the official reveal of the highly-anticipated PlayStation 5 Pro. The reveal could have benefitted from a highlight reel showing the improvements in popular and recent games.

There are countless reasons why Sony couldn’t include two of its biggest games in the reel. Perhaps it involves time constraints or the company has no improvements or changes worth sharing.

All Games Getting PS5 Pro Support (So Far)
Image
The upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro just had more details revealed at a technical presentation hosted by Mark Cerny. In addition to revealing the controversial $700 price tag for the upgraded console, the eight-minute presentation also revealed a host of games that will be getting PS5 Pro support upon the console's launch on November 7, 2024. Although initial reception from PlayStation gamers was icy at best, the slated graphical enhancements should make the gaming experience more even for those striving for a steady 60 frames per second.

In addition to a 2Tb Ssd standard, the new PS5 Pro will have an upgraded Gpu and boasts 45% faster rendering for gameplay, taking the typical 30 Fps experience up to 60 Fps for games. The new Gpu not only allows for an enhancement in gameplay fidelity generally, but the PS5 Pro also has AI upscaling and Advanced Ray Tracing to help bring things to the next level.

PS5 Pro Release Date, Price, Specs, & Preorder Details

The long-rumored PlayStation 5 Pro has finally been revealed in a technical presentation by lead designer Mark Cerny. It's typical for Sony, about halfway through a console's life cycle, to release a more powerful or compact version of its current console - think the PS2 Slim, the PS3 Super Slim, or more recently, the PS4 Pro. These updated consoles may offer better visuals, improved performance, exclusive games, or a combination of the three, potentially boosting console sales during a midlife decline.

The PS5 Pro is the latest console in that tradition. With improved specifications over the original PS5 models, and a handful of games soon to receive PS5 Pro Enhanced versions, longtime PlayStation users can expect exactly the kind of upgrades they're used to from Sony's mid-generational console revamps. Why the PlayStation 5 Pro Announcement Has Everyone Mad

It’s official, the worst kept secret in gaming this year has come true with Sony’s announcement of the PlayStation 5 Pro. PlayStation 5 Goes Pro With Hardware Unveiling, November 7 Launch
Image
Disclaimer : Crunchyroll is an independently operated joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex. Even though it seems like only yesterday that PlayStation 5 consoles were the hottest item on the market, it’s been nearly four years since the launch and for Sony, that means a mid-cycle pro upgrade with “double the power” according to Lead Architect of the PS5 Mark Cerny. With Cerny hosting, PlayStation laid out the big three upgrades for the PlayStation 5 Pro over the original model in a nine-minute Technical Presentation that showcased games we know playing with more power and AI features. According to Cerny, the PS5 Pro has a larger Gpu that is 45% faster than the base PS5 by itself, coupling that with the new AI-driven upscaling called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (Pssr), it is said to be “double the power” of the original model. Image
After months of speculation and leaks, the PlayStation 5 Pro has finally been revealed. Yesterday, a technical presentation with the PS5's Lead Architect, Mark Cerny, was announced, focusing on the PS5 and "innovations in gaming technology." This description led many to believe the PS5 Pro was on the way, and a further unlisted video titled "PS5 Pro" cemented that this would be the case.

In the live stream on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, Cerny confirmed that the PS5 Pro would be an improvement over its predecessor due to three main features: An improved Cpu, advanced Ray Tracing, and AI-driven upscaling called PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (Pssr). With these combined, players are able to get far greater visuals at a higher frame rate, with the new console boasting double the power.

The PS5 Pro will also have a larger Ssd, with 2Tb, which is double the amount in the 2023 model.

PS5 Pro Could Get Its First Reveal September 10 With New Livestream Announced
Image
After months of speculation, PlayStation might finally unveil its PlayStation 5 Pro soon. As is often the case with console generations, there is often a mid-generation refresh, with a slim model or a more powerful version. As the PS5 got a smaller, modular redesign last year, it was only a matter of time before people turned their attention to when Sony could be unveiling the more powerful "Pro" version.

As per a post by the official PlayStation X account, there will be a Technical Presentation hosted by the PS5's Lead Architect, Mark Cerny, on September 10 at 8:00am Pt. Unlike past showcases and State of Plays, this post specifies that it will revolve around the technical side, rather than the games themselves, with the PS5 logo and the message "The Journey Continues" strongly suggesting that this will be the look at new hardware like the PS5 Pro.

An Unannounced PlayStation 5 Feature Has Accidentally Leaked
It looks like a major new asset of the PlayStation 5 hardware has just been inadvertently let out of the bag.

In a preview article for upcoming racing game sequel Wrc 9, Game Reactor references that the title will have built-in functionality with a so-called ‘Activities’ feature on PS5. A fascinating revelation, no doubt, but what good is a name without a description of is function? Thankfully, Gematsu managed to capture a screenshot of the associated paragraph in which Activities were mentioned not long before Game Reactor pulled the article from public viewing.

The excerpt reads as follows:

Also as a free update for those who get Wrc 9 on either PS4 or Xbox One, the game will upgrade to the next-gen versions on PS5 or Xbox Series X, and we’re looking forward to seeing how performance, graphics, or feature such as PS5’s Activities feature reveal the future of rally racing.

PlayStation 5 Will Support “Almost All” of the Most Popular PS4 Games at Launch
Mark Cerny
Sony somewhat elaborated on the PlayStation 5’s backward compatibility support by saying that you can expect to play most of your favorite PS4 titles on the upcoming console.

“Lastly, we’re excited to confirm that the backwards compatibility features are working well,” Sony says. “We recently took a look at the top 100 PS4 titles as ranked by play time, and we’re expecting almost all of them to be playable at launch on PS5. With more than 4000 games published on PS4, we will continue the testing process and expand backwards compatibility coverage over time.”

During the recent PS5 technical specs reveal video, PlayStation’s chief architect Mark Cerny also noted that the PS5 will enhance the performance of supported PS4 games. Actually, that may be one of the features that are preventing Sony from simply bringing all PS4 titles to PS5. Cerny says that “the boost [to performance] is truly massive this...

First Details Regarding PlayStation 5 Includes a Solid State Drive and Backwards Compatibility
Sony has revealed some of the very first details regarding the highly anticipated PlayStation 5 gaming and entertainment system. This sounds like it’s going to be pretty freakin’ cool and may end up being the ultimate gaming console.

Two of the biggest things that were revealed are that it will include a solid state drive and also have backwards compatibility with the PlayStation 4! These things are a pretty big deal for gamers! The Ssd will give the system the power to match the increased and improved graphics and storage needs for the next-gen games.

The Ssd drive will also dramatically speed up the loading and rendering time for the games. According to Wired, PlayStation 5 lead system architect Mark Cerny teased that the Ssd drive built into Sony’s next-gen console “is something a little more specialized” than what is currently available for PCs:

PS5: Sony Unveils Technical Specs for Next-gen Console
Rob Leane Apr 16, 2019

Don't expect it to launch this year, but the PS5 is starting to sound very impressive indeed...

Sony has revealed loads of new information about its next-generation console in a hugely informative interview with Wired. In short: the successor to the PS4 is sounding very impressive already.

The article is very technical, but it packs a lot of very interesting details for hardcore gamers and casual players alike. For starters: the console will have a disc drive, and it will be backwards compatible with the PS4 and the Psvr headset. Whether it will be compatible with anything older than that remains to be seen.

The PS5, or whatever it ends up being called, will have some major upgrades compared to the PS4: for one thing, it will have an Ssd drive, which could reduce loading times dramatically.

To showcase this potential, Sony exec Mark Cerny, who...

PlayStation: How the PS3's Mistakes Made the PS4 a Better Console
Matthew Byrd Feb 13, 2019

Sony calls the PlayStation 3 its "Icarus moment" and reveals how it affected the company.

Sie Worldwide Studios Chairman Shawn Layden was coy during a recent Dice 2019 presentation when he said that the shortcomings of the PS3 were a real wakeup call for Sony and the PlayStation team.

"PlayStation 2 was an industry triumph, it remains one of the best-selling consoles of all time," Layden said during a Dice 2019 speech. "But coming off the heels of that, was PlayStation 3: a stark moment of hubris in the nearly 25 years of PlayStation history. As we sometimes call it, PS3 was our Icarus moment."

The hubris that Layden refers to when discussing the PS3 touches on a few things. The biggest, as Layden points out, was the console's "price point" which was a stunning $599 for the console's premium 60 Gb unit. Many fans couldn't believe the PS3 was so expensive at launch,...

Sony is preparing to unveil its next-generation console. The PlayStation 5, as it it's officially called, will be Sony's latest foray into gaming after dominating the current generation of consoles with the PS4.

The real question is how the new console will perform against its immediate competitor, Xbox Series X, Microsoft's own next-gen machine, which boasts powerful specs and a few interesting features. And let's not forget Google Stadia, which could be a big step into a future where players no longer need consoles at all.

But that future seems to still be a while off. Until then, we still get to obsess over the upcoming console war. Here's everything we know about the PlayStation 5:

PlayStation 5 Release Date

Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 will arrive in Holiday 2020! In the meantime,...

Death Stranding Will Not Be at E3 2017 Says Kojima; E3 Coliseum Revealed
One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!

When we began on the long, winding road to E3 2017, one of the games we were most excited to get an update on was Hideo Kojima's first game since Konami, Death Stranding. Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. That didn't mean Kojima, himself, wouldn't still be in attendance, though.

Apologies to our fans, Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development. Pls see me with @geoffkeighley on 6/14! pic.twitter.com/w...

Death Stranding Built On Same Game Engine As Horizon Zero Dawn, Mads Mikkelsen Confirmed As Villain
You may recall back in January when Hideo Kojima, having just parted ways with Konami after close to 30 years, embarked on a world tour of Sony’s first-party studios with Mark Cerny, sampling development tools and other resources from Sony Santa Monica to Media Molecule, and everywhere in between.

The purpose of that trip was, of course, to locate a game engine on which to build Death Stranding, the first title to come out of the Kojima Productions that once again dazzled the industry with a new, and frankly bonkers trailer at The Game Awards late last week. In it, we seen both Guillermo del Toro and Mads Mikkelsen feature, and Kojima has now confirmed that the latter will indeed take point as the game’s antagonist.

Lead System Architect Mark Cerny Talks PS4 Pro, Video Capture On New Hardware Capped At 1080p
Lead System Architect Mark Cerny dissects Sony’s thought process behind PS4 Pro in typically cool, calm fashion in this new video released by PlayStation Blog.

Pulled from yesterday’s PlayStation Meeting, the decorated developer touches on a variety of different questions and queries, including Pro’s technical innards, the adoption rate of 4K compatible TVs and, in particular, television sets that support Hdr (High Dynamic Range).

Placing a big emphasis on graphical fidelity and improved visuals across the board, Cerny noted that “the new console is primarily targeted at higher fidelity graphics and smoother framerates. These are great areas to focus on because they don’t alter the fundamental gameplay. The creator’s vision is just represented in a richer fashion. Developer and publishers have also been quick to adopt the new platform.”

When pressed about the demand for 4K gaming and, specifically, the amount of 4K-compatible sets in the wild,...

New High-End PlayStation 4 Officially Titled PS4 Pro
Consider it a rumor no more – Sony has officially unveiled its mid-generational hardware upgrade to be the PS4 Pro. It’ll be priced at $399 and is set to arrive on November 10. Meanwhile, the long-rumored PS4 Slim will be available from September 15 when Sony’s sleek new system will retail for $299.

Word comes by way of the company’s ongoing PlayStation Meeting, where PS4 architect Mark Cerny confirmed that the revised console will support “true” 4K gaming and Hdr display, before parading a series of gameplay demonstrations that revealed the likes of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Insomniac’s in-development Spider-Man title all taking full advantage of the higher resolution.

Packing a 1Tb hard drive, Cerny revealed that “the vision is to take the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels. Our goal is to deliver high-fidelity graphical experiences.” It should be noted that all existing games...

Hideo Kojima Confident Death Stranding Can Become His “Best Work”
Hideo Kojima, founding father of the Metal Gear series and widely considered to be one of the best developers working today, firmly believes his mysterious new IP, Death Stranding, will go on to become his “best work.”

Speaking at a presentation with PS4 system architect Mark Cerny – who also assisted on the game’s eerie, conceptual trailer – Kojima claimed that Death Stranding, the first title to be produced by Kojima Productions, will be an experience like no other.

“So far, when I’ve been making games, I’ve had to give up on something or at least compromise on something in order to get things done,” Kojima explained. “But this time, working with you [Mark Cerny] and you bringing the state of the art technologies, we will get around that [usual problem].”

It’s a bullish statement, of course, but considering Hideo Kojima boasts a résumé that spans the original Metal Gear of ’87 to...

PlayStation 5: 8 Massive Rumours You Need To Know
Danny Haymond Jr/Sony

Sony sold more than 5.7 million PlayStation 4s during 2015’s holiday season, totalling around 35.9 million units across the globe. It certainly doesn’t feel like momentum is slowing down, but only thee years after its release, rumours are still gathering about its successor.

Sony’s software product development head Scott Rhode told MTV in 2014, “Very soon we’ll start thinking about what we’ll do next. That’s the culture at Sony. We always have to do something that’s bigger and better than what’s already been done.” Then, Sony UK boss Fergal Gara added at a press conference, “It’s probably a sign of the times and how much has changed in seven years, but I think the willingness and the appetite to pick up new technology fast has probably changed quite a bit.”

Sure, Sony have been vocal about putting their weight behind the...

Ranking Every Naughty Dog Game From Worst To Best
Naughty Dog

As far as game developers go, Naughty Dog are undoubtedly up there with the best of them. First formed as Jam Software by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin in 1984, the company created two games for the Apple II and two for the Apple Iigs, Amiga and Dos, changing their name to Naughty Dog before the release of the latter of these, a title named Keef The Thief.

After producing a poorly received game on the Mega Drive for Electronic Arts called Rings Of Power, Gavin and Rubin’s creation of a game called Way Of The Warrior got the attention of Mark Cerny, currently known as the lead architect of the Playstation 4 but then the Vice President of Universal Interactive Studios.

Signed by Cerny to develop games for Universal, Naughty Dog expanded and came up with Crash Bandicoot. They haven’t looked back since, having made a total...

Sony Schedules “Innovation at PlayStation” Event, But Will It Be About Virtual Reality?
Sony has revealed via the official Gdc website that it will give a presentation on “innovation at PlayStation and the future of gaming” at the upcoming Game Developer’s Conference.

Though “future of gaming” is a pretty vague label, there’s reason to believe the presentation will be quite compelling — mainly, because of swirling rumors about an upcoming virtual reality headset from Sony. Though the company does already sell movie-watching headgear, the rumored Oculus Rift competitor would, as expected, be designed specifically for gaming. Whether it’s something that would work with the PS4 is unclear, and even if it is revealed, there’s no guarantee it’s not a separate product entirely.

Even so, PS4 lead architect Mark Cerny did toot virtual reality’s horn just recently, so hopefully that means the rumored product (if real) will come to Sony’s current-gen console. He said the following when asked...

Knack Review: 6 Reasons You Shouldn’t Pass It Up
Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Mascot action adventure platforming games thrived all throughout the market in past generations of gaming. From Crash Bandicoot to Spyro the Dragon to Ape Escape to Sly Cooper to Mario to Banjo Kazooie, these franchises were beloved and saturated the market similar to how First Person Shooters dominate sales charts today. There’s only one crucial difference between charming platformers and gritty bombastic shooters; shooters are realistically the same thing over and over again while the slew of mascot games always felt creatively different from one another.

Much to the world’s surprise, Sony announced Knack alongside their Playstation 4 reveal. Early impressions gave off that the game would be nothing more than a graphical tech demo, and wouldn’t necessarily revitalize a genre of games that have seemingly gone “poof” in favor of blood, gore, boobs, and more blood. Nevertheless, it looked like a fairly intriguing...

12 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2013
Ah 2013. The year when this generation finally began to come to a close, and everyone is just starting to nestle comfortably around their Xbox One, PS4, or Wii U. It’s also been the year of some genuinely excellent gaming experiences – GTA V, The Last of Us and Tomb Raider are all examples of an excellent gaming year – but, like every other year, there’s also been a fair share of stinkers released into the wild as well.

Those who purchased these piles of cow dung masquerading as something better than they were due to clever marketing and shiny box art are the true sufferers. Perhaps you played them through to the end, hoping that the experience would somehow get better. How naive you were – these games were never going to get better, and often ended up betraying our trust as gamers.

This, ladies and gents, is a celebration of...

Sony Addresses “Disappointing” Early Reviews For PlayStation 4’s Launch Lineup
With the critical embargo for PlayStation 4’s launch lineup effectively ending yesterday, early reviews for Sony’s three first-party titles appeared online, and the company have responded to the decidedly mixed reaction. Speaking with GamesIndustry International, Sony’s president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, has expressed his disappointment with the initial impressions.

Here’s what Yoshida had to say about the scoring spectrum:

“With this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly, and especially since the online functionality wasn’t ready until in the last couple days. So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores.

“It’s disappointing but I don’t think it’s worrisome for the launch of the system,” Yoshida added. “I’ve...

New Unboxing Video Showcases The Technical Innards Of The PlayStation 4
With the imminent release of the next-gen consoles, it’s almost guaranteed that the Internet will be saturated with nine kinds of unboxing videos. However, in a new video published by Wired, Sony’s engineering director Yasuhiro Ootori unboxes the company’s PlayStation 4 quite literally. The footage, which you can check out in the video below, is a piece by piece demonstration of the console’s internal components.

While Sony has outlined the console’s specifications in the past, this is our first tangible look at what’s under the PlayStation 4’s jet black exterior. In the video, Ootori pays attention to various components including the slimline x86 Amd processor and the hardware’s internal power supply. What’s more, he also underlines the PS4’s stepless cooling fan —a feature that will allow the system to match its output in accordance with the console’s temperature.

Development on the...

Where Is The Last Guardian? – The Probable Answer
In 2009 the first trailer for The Last Guardian was revealed to the word at E3. When the trailer finished, every single gamer worldwide immediately hailed Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, The Last Guardian as possibly the greatest game trilogy ever made. (I’ll assume that you are reading this due to an interest in the subject matter, so I won’t badger on about what the game is. A boy, a cat/dog/bird thing called Trico and a castle. It’s like Ico meets Shadow of the Colossus. Sounds marvellous. Let’s move on.)

However, as of autumn 2013 The Last Guardian hasn’t been released yet. Still. Despite an expected 2011 release. So what is going on? Why is one of the most anticipated games of all time running late? Very late. (Too late?)

As time has gone on the game’s release has seemed less and less likely. Ueda-san,...

On PlayStation 4, Players Can Use Real Names As ID From Launch; Cross-Party Chat Supports Eight Users
Though Mark Cerny, lead architect behind the PlayStation 4, announced the feature back in February, Sony reiterated to Kotaku yesterday that gamers will be able to use their real names as an online ID when the console launches next month. The personal touch, which will allow players to be identified by their full name as opposed to a seven-year old pseudonym, is a key element in Sony’s plan to create a user-friendly online experience.

It’s worth keeping in mind that this feature is entirely optional, with players having the choice between anonymity and real name identification from the get-go. Although many gamers would have preferred the option to change their Psn usernames, the real-name option seems to be a way for Sony to circumvent the long-gestating demand.

In tandem with the confirmation, the company also addressed the cross-party chat feature on PlayStation 4, stating that the connection will support up...

Sony Offers New Story & Gameplay Details On Knack
Amidst the delays of such former PlayStation 4 launch titles like Driveclub and Watch Dogs, there are numerous games that will still apparently make the system’s launch. Among them is Sony Japan Studio’s Knack, a family-friendly action game headed by veteran developer Mark Cerny. The PlayStation Blog recently updated with some interesting new details regarding both Knack‘s story and gameplay, and what’s listed sounds intriguing.

The goal stated regarding Knack‘s development is to harken “back to the golden days of Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter,” two series that Cerny was involved with previously. The story will revolve around the titular character, who has been developed as a secret weapon to help mankind against a goblin invasion. Knack will set out with various companions to find the goblin hideout, as well as figure out how the goblins recently discovered advanced weapons technology. A human antagonist named...

Aaa PC Titles Can Run On PS4 Within 2 Months
Arguably the most pivotal point in Microsoft’s Xbox 360 finding more success worldwide was its more developer friendly internal system architecture. Games were developed similarly to the outline of structuring a PC game. Meanwhile, Sony was in a bubble with their head in the clouds preaching on about the power of the Cell. Don’t get me wrong, Sony’s first party games (The Last of Us, Beyond, Uncharted 3) are the definitive graphic kings of the seventh console generation. That does not change the fact that third party corporations often developing simultaneously on multiple consoles didn’t have the necessary time to crack the internal rubix cube that was the PS3.

Over time the situation was remedied but quite a lot of prolific development studios weren’t happy and ultimately did not see the point in the systems complexity. During the past two years or so other studios caught up...

The Bizarre Feature The New PS4 Controller Almost Had
Mark Cerny
Picture this: You're playing your favorite game. You're low on lives, low on ammo and know there's a boss battle coming up. Your PlayStation 4 controller can sense your fear -- or at least that was the plan.

In an interview with Stuff magazine, Sony's lead system architect Mark Cerny said the company "looked at pretty much any idea we could think of" when updating its DualShock controller for its new game console. One of these ideas was apparently measuring a player's stress based on how much their hands were sweating.

"Would it help to measure the galvanic response of the skin?," Cerny said to Stuff. "We tried out a tremendous number of things—and then we went to the game teams to ask them what they thought they could use from the controller."

The DualShock wouldn't have been the first controller to take note of a gamer's vitals as they play.

10 Things We Learned About PS4 From Develop Day 2
Day 2 of the gaming industry conference kicked off with a keynote speech from industry hero (introduced as “the David Beckham of the gaming industry”) and PS4 lead architect, Mark Cerny, who talked autobiographically about the journey he and the PS4 have been on.

In a career that started at Atari in 1982 and saw him work at Sega and then heavily with Sony PlayStation since it’s inception, on games like Crash Bandicoot for PS1 and Ratchet & Clank for PS2. Having embraced third party collaborations and the indie game scene, Cerny pitched to Sony president Shuhei Yoshida that he should be lead architect on the upcoming PS4, Yoshida accepted.

Cerny’s hour-long address did an excellent job of convincing that the PS4 is in good hands. Although his talk was light on specific details, further sessions by others at Sony were more specific. Here’s a bunch of things we learned about the PS4 from today,...
