"The Mountain" Actor Breaks Weight-Lifting Record, Scarier Than Fantasy Character He Played on Game of Thrones
Image
In the world of Game of Thrones, Ser Gregor Clegane, a.k.a. "The Mountain," has many impressive feats to his credit. He is famous for slaying Ser Hugh of the Vale. He decapitated a horse with a single killing stroke.

But he never deadlifted 1,113 pounds—a feat the actor and strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who played The Mountain on Game of Thrones for five of its seasons, did on Saturday, July 26, at the 2025 Eisenheart Black Competition in Germany, as proven by his official Instagram account.

Star Wars Movie Rogue One’s Hidden Connection to Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ Makes It 10x More Legendary
Image
Who knew Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Oppenheimer could share more than just explosive endings? While Rogue One takes us to a galaxy far, far away with its tragic tale of Galen Erso building the Death Star, Oppenheimer pulls us into the real world with J. Robert Oppenheimer’s regretful role in creating the atomic bomb.

Both stories dive deep into the minds of brilliant creators who found themselves responsible for weapons of mass destruction, only to be haunted by their creations. Whether it’s a planet-killing laser or nuclear devastation, the theme of regret and unintended consequences runs through both like a death star-sized thread. It’s wild to think about how these seemingly different worlds share such dark, powerful connections. Ready to explore this mind-bending link? Buckle in, because the connection is more epic than you’d expect!

How Star Wars: Rogue One took inspiration from Oppenheimer?...

Dragonball: Evolution Was a Disaster, But It Did Manage To Do One Good Thing
Image
Quick LinksDragonball: Evolution Is Considered To Be One of the Worst Anime Adaptations and Worst Movies Of All TimeWhat Was Akira Toriyama's Reaction to Dragonball: Evolution?Dragonball Evolution Inspired Akira Toriyama To Return to the Anime

For many Westerners, Dragon Ball was the very first introduction to all the wonder that anime had to offer. It's a franchise that remains incredibly popular and dear to people's hearts, and the impact it's had on pop culture is undeniable. Because of this, in the mid-2000s, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood came knocking at the door to produce a live-action film. The first and so far only attempt to bring the Dragon Ball franchise to the realm of live-action, Dragonball Evolution, has not only garnered a reputation as one of the worst anime adaptations ever made but as one of the worst films ever made in general.

‘Game of Thrones’ Almost Ruined Its Most Revolting Villain With an Atrocious Miscast That “Lacked Presence”
Image
Game of Thrones had many characters that left a lasting impression on the viewers, from the clever Tyrion Lannister to the honorable Ned Stark, everyone had a defining trait. One of such personalities in the show was Gregor Clegane, also known as The Mountain.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson in Game of Thrones | HBO

The towering knight seemed more like a monster than a fan, and fit right into the show’s grim and cutthroat nature. He mercilessly crushed skulls and wreaked havoc, leaving a strong mark on the viewers. But many might not know that he was played by three different actors throughout the show’s eight-season run.

Game Of Thrones: Every Actor Who Played The Mountain (And Why They Changed)
Image
"Game of Thrones" had an enormous cast and was filmed in locations all across Europe, from Iceland to Malta. It needed both to do justice to the world and characters described in author George R. R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire," but the complicated logistics almost meant that recasting of B-list and below characters was inevitable.

For example: original Night King actor Richard Brake was replaced by Vladimir Furdik in season 6. Since the Night King's blue-skinned make-up remained the same, this recasting could escape notice. Other actor swaps on "Game of Thrones" were more obvious -- like how Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane was recast not just once but twice.

In both the books and TV series, the Mountain earns his name from his enormous size. He's about eight feet tall and half as wide, and his sword dwarfs many of the men he cuts down with it.

Prometheus Ending & Alien Connections Explained
Image
One of the most confusing chapters in the Alien franchise, Prometheus, has a similarly confusing ending, but its importance to Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror series means an explanation is in order. Since it's one of the first Alien movies chronologically, Prometheus is absolutely brimming with lore and information about the xenomorphs and their origins. Alongside that lore, however, are multiple layers of symbolism, subtext, and hinted-at pieces of information. That's part of the reason Prometheus is considered one of the most confusing Alien movies in the whole franchise. The ending of Prometheus, however, can be explained, and its information sheds new light on the entire series.

Every Alien movie has contributed to the wealth of knowledge about xenomorphs, from the warriors introduced in Aliens to the offspring from Alien: Romulus. With the new types of xenomorphs, Alien movies also reveal more about how they're created, from facehuggers to chemical compounds and more.

One Game Of Thrones Actor Was Recast And Fans Totally Missed It
Image
"Game of Thrones" had its share of recastings -- they were inevitable with a production and an ensemble as sprawling as the show had. The series had two Daario Naharises (Ed Skrein and then Michiel Huisman) and three Gregor Cleganes. After season 2, "Game of Thrones" also recast both of the younger Lannister-Baratheon siblings, Myrcella (Aimée Richardson and then future "First Omen" star Nell Tiger Free) and King Tommen (Callum Wharry and Dean Charles Chapman). Even Daenerys Targaryen was played by Tamzin Merchant, not Emilia Clarke, in the unaired (and then remade) "Game of Thrones" pilot.

One "Game of Thrones" recasting might have slipped your notice, though, because both successive actors were buried beneath make-up. That recasting would be the Night King, leader of the undead White Walkers. In seasons 4 and 5, the Night King was played by Welsh actor Richard Brake; you might recognize him as Joe Chill (murderer of Bruce Wayne's parents) from "Batman Begins,...

What The Engineer From Ridley Scott's Prometheus Looks Like In Real Life
Image
In Ridley Scott's 2012 sci-fi film "Prometheus," a group of astronauts travel to a distant planet, guided there by a series of ancient cave paintings discovered on Earth. It seems that tall, godlike aliens visited Earth many thousands of years ago and left a map that humanity would eventually be able to follow back to their homeworld. It might have taken us several millennia to develop long-range space travel, but we eventually have the wherewithal to follow the map.

Of course, when the astronauts arrive, they find strange, brutal things they can't understand. The tall godlike aliens, which they nickname Engineers, are all dead, having been killed by a menagerie of genetically engineered critters of their own making. Some unusual evidence leads the astronauts to believe the Engineers were preparing to travel to Earth with a cargo of killer monsters, hoping to seed our planet with them and kill us all.

Game Of Thrones: Why Did The Mountain Change Actors? (Twice)
Image
Game of Thrones recast the character of the Mountain twice, but Hafr Jlus Bjrnsson's portrayal is the most memorable and iconic. The casting changes for the Mountain were less noticeable due to the character's limited dialogue and intimidating presence. The Mountain's storyline in the show differed from the books, but Game of Thrones still succeeded in making him one of the franchise's most memorable characters.

Despite being a character who clearly stood out, Game of Thrones recast the Mountain actor twice. The Mountain, whose real name is Gregor Clegane, appeared in all but one season of the HBO series. Game of Thrones' strongest character, Gregor Clegane received the Mountain nickname due to his intimidating size and strength. The Mountain grew into a notable character in the series thanks to his brutality and several memorable scenes. However, given his smaller role earlier in the show, fans might not have noticed...

Great Movie Villains Who Deserved More Screen Time
Image
When constructing characters for a film, the villain must have the same level of intrigue as the hero. Sometimes, the movie's standout character will be the villain, regardless of how much screen time they receive. This is the case for a few memorable antagonists, specifically in big-budget blockbusters of the past and present. These villains have a fearful presence, yet their development feels rather limited.

Despite getting pushed aside or having too much buildup before they first appear, these antagonists make a grand impression on audiences. Therefore, because they are so interesting, viewers are left patiently waiting for the next scene where they show up again. Darth Maul from Star Wars, Gorr the God Butcher from Thor: Love & Thunder, and Proximus Caesar from Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes are just a few great movie villains that could have benefited from having more screen time.

Garraka Was a...

Avp: Alien vs. Predator (2004) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator (1987)
Pretty much from the moment the sci-fi action classic Predator was released in 1987, fans were wondering what it would be like if the alien hunter from that film were to clash with the xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. Dark Horse Comics dove into the concept right away, publishing their first Aliens vs. Predator story in 1989. It took a lot longer for the battle to reach the big screen, though. Fifteen years longer, in fact. And with the latest episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, we’re looking into the making of 2004’s Avp: Alien vs. Predator (watch it Here). How ‘Andor’ Became the First ‘Star Wars’ TV Series for Grown-Ups: ‘I Wanted to Do It About Real People’
Image
Tony Gilroy didn’t want to make a prequel to “Rogue One.” The 2016 “Star Wars” feature, which Gilroy co-wrote, is itself a prequel, detailing how a ragged crew of rebels, led by spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), steal the plans to the Death Star. They succeed, but (spoiler alert!) they all sacrifice their lives doing so — an uncharacteristically dour ending for a “Star Wars” endeavor. The production was also infamously troubled, with Gilroy, who wrote four “Bourne” movies and directed “Michael Clayton,” stepping in to helm extensive reshoots in place of director Gareth Edwards. When the result was a massive hit, grossing just over 1 billion worldwide, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was eager do more “Star Wars” movies with Gilroy.

“I remember Kathy saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I said, ‘Well, what kind of stories do you want to do?’” Gilroy recalls. “And she goes, ‘We could do anything.’ So I said,...

Costume Design Hacks: Making Selena Gomez Read Taller and Alexander Skarsgard Look Smaller Onscreen
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Reportedly, Sebastian Stan clocks in at 6 feet tall, comparable with 6-foot-2 Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, whom the actor plays in Pam & Tommy. Co-star Lily James hits 5-foot-7 in flats, which corresponds with Pamela Anderson. But, via extensive research, Pam & Tommy costume designer Kameron Lennox determined that Anderson’s documented height may be with her trademark 4-inch heels on.

In the Hulu limited series (nominated for an Emmy for outstanding contemporary costumes), James often wore Anderson-style high heels, such as for an incognito trip to the library to access the nascent internet, where her Christian Louboutin boots (a take on Uggs) brought James near Stan’s height. But, in the preceding scene, shot from the waist up, James actually stood flat-foot for a tension-filled conversation with Stan as the hotheaded Tommy. “It was so important that [Pam] felt smaller, like she’s vulnerable,...

‘The Reckoning’: Review: Neil Marshall Returns to Traditional Horror With Routine Tale of Witch-Hunting
Image
Following the misfire of 2019’s “Hellboy” reboot, “The Descent” director Neil Marshall returns to his traditional horror roots with “The Reckoning,” an uneven melodrama about an innocent young widow accused of witchcraft during the Great Plague of London, 1665. Striving to be a rousing tale of female empowerment in the face of brutal patriarchy and religious extremism, “The Reckoning” has some powerful moments but relies too heavily on fantasy sequences to deliver scares, and its credibility is significantly compromised by the heroine consistently emerging from extreme torture sessions with barely a hair out of place or a smudge on her makeup. Dedicated horror hounds will be the main takers when this well-produced item hits U.S. theaters and VOD on February 5.

A world apart from arty contemporary folk-horrors such as “The Witch” and “Hagazussa: A Heathen’s Curse,” Marshall’s new film is more closely related to hellfire European exploitation titles of...

The Reckoning Review: Neil Marshall’s Great Plague Drama Explores a Test of Wills
While Neil Marshall’s 1665 London-set, Great Plague drama The Reckoning has obvious allusions to our own present-day pandemic, Covid-19 wasn’t a factor in its creation being that filming occurred in 2019. The fear and paranoia that surround both eras are palpable, though, and the ways in which our current disease has been politicized beyond the point of human empathy does bear superficial similarity to the ways in which women were persecuted as witches against the backdrop that past sickness. Despite Marshall and co-writers Charlotte Kirk and Edward Evers-Swindell heavily researching the period to create a historically accurate piece depicting this tragedy’s two sides, their script actually resembles a different set of headlines altogether due to the circumstances surrounding the accusations leveled at Grace Haverstock’s (Kirk) lead.

The headlines I’m talking about are those dealing with Kirk’s presence as a figure within the #MeToo movement and last...

Fantasia 2020 Review: The Reckoning is an Epic Examination of the Witch Trials
Image
The Reckoning greets us with the image of a mass grave. It’s England in 1665, the Great Plague has plunged the country into fear, paranoia, and sickness. The cause of “the sickness,” as they call it, is unknown to them, but they must blame something. And like all who follow the Christian doctrine, they blame the Devil and those who represent him. Lucifer’s acolytes, in their mind, are witches. While witch trials during this time were beginning to decline, “Witch Finders” kept this murder of innocent women rampant. Writer-director Neil Marshall explores this dark time in history and a true tale of horrors in his new, epic film. An examination of the trauma and pain caused by these trials that the film estimates killed 500,000 women across continents.

The Reckoning begins in a very melodramatic fashion. A young widow and mother, Grace, is grieving her husband, Joseph (Joe Anderson). She...

Witchy Thriller The Reckoning Shows More of its Plague Stricken Settings
Tagline: "Thou Shall Not Let A Witch to Live." The Reckoning is the latest horror film from United Kingdom director Neil Marshall (Doomsday). His latest is set in the year 1665, when the Great Plague is still ravaging Europe. Meanwhile, witch burning is the norm. In the chaos, a widowed mother is targeted for persecution, after rejecting the advances of a landlord. This title stars: Charlotte Kirk (Ocean's 8), Cal MacAninch (Calibre) and Ian Whyte. A concept poster (left) and early still were released for the film late last year; now, two more stills are available, showing more of the cast. Director Marshall has talked about the film a few times, since 2019. At The Sun, he talked about actress Charlotte Kirk's challenges working on set: "she's literally being doused in water and tied up to torture devices and persecuted on a daily basis." This was not an average shoot for any of the filmmakers.

Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson in Game of Thrones (2011)
The Mountain has shattered a world record.

Hafthor Bjornsson, who played Ser Gregor Clegane, better known as The Mountain, on “Game of Thrones,” has a deadlift world record. He lifted 1,104 pounds (501 kilograms) at Thor’s Power Gym in Iceland on Saturday while livestreaming the historic occasion.

Bjornsson, who is 6 feet 9 inches tall and weighs 452 pounds, posted a video of the deadlift on his Instagram, letting out a roar after he drops the weight and finishes. He won the World’s Strongest Man competition in 2018 and has earned third place or higher every year since 2012.

The Mountain was played by two actors, Conan Stevens and Ian Whyte, in early appearances on “Game of Thrones,” then Bjornsson took over the role in season 4 until the finale.

Game Of Thrones Featurette Offers a Cool Behind-The-Scenes Look at the Impressive Makeup Effects
HBO has released an incredibly cool new behind-the-scenes featurette for the final season of Game of Thrones. The video puts the focus on the impressively awesome makeup effects that are created for the certain characters in the series to life like the White Walkers. It specifically focuses on the prosthetics process.

Prosthetics Designer Barrie Gower dives into the process and explains that most people are unaware of the length of time and the process that goes into creating, building, and applying these prosthetics.

They have a workshop that consists of around 50 people that are working on this aspect of the series, and it’s explained that after they are done applying the makeup, they have to stick around on set to make sure it stays on the actors!

Just an average prosthetic makeup, we usually say is like about four to six weeks to build. We have so many patient...

Watch: "Game of Thrones" Visual Effects Breakdown of the Massacre at Hardhome
Visual effects firm El Ranchito has released a visual effects breakdown of all of the hard work that went into transforming a desolate northern landscape into an epic battle. Typically, these videos released at the end of each season of "Game of Thrones" focus on minor additions and changes made to enhance scenes a viewer may otherwise not notice. In the case of "Hardhome", so much work went into a single scene, there is more than enough material to dive into. Aside from the obvious addition of hundreds of digital extras being inserted, the video highlights the major impact color correction, background painting, and the splicing of elements filmed separately all have on the scene becoming a cohesive whole. We actually get to see the effects process that went into my two favorite elements of this scene - the tracking shot of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) running through the courtyard...

Frightfest 2014: ‘Blood Moon’ Review
Stars: Ian Whyte, George Blagden, Anna Skellern, Corey Johnson, Shaun Dooley, Jack Fox, Eleanor Matsuura, David Sterne, Amber Jean Rowan | Written by Alan Wightman | Directed by Jeremy Wooding

It’s safe to say horror westerns don’t have the best track record. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a good amount of decent examples out there such as Grim Prarie Tales, Ravenous, Dead Birds and The Burrowers. But there’s also a Lot of bad horror westerns, two of which – Gallowalkers and Umbrage – debuted at Frightfest’s of the past. Given that, it was with a sense of trepidation that I approached Blood Moon…

Set in Colorado in 1887, Blood Moon sees a stagecoach full of strange passengers and an enigmatic gunslinger Calhoun (Dooley) find themselves prisoners of two desperate outlaws on the run. As the prairie travellers attempt to outwit the outlaws in any way they can it soon...

Hafthór Björnsson: Five Things to Know About Game of Thrones's Mountain
Game of Thrones (2011)
Few minor characters on Game of Thrones have made as much of an impact (sorry) as Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane, the villainous Lannister henchman who, in Sunday night's memorable trial by combat, showed exactly why everyone's been whispering his name in fear for four seasons.

Here are a few things to know about Hafthór Björnsson, the Icelandic strongman who brought the Mountain to life.

He is literally one of the strongest men in the world.

At 6'9" and over 400 pounds, Björnsson has put his physique to the test in various strongman competitions. After previously finishing in third place in the World's Strongest Man competition,...

Nashville's Michiel Huisman Replacing Ed Skrein As Daario On '€.Game Of Thrones'.
Games of Thrones producers have inexplicably replaced Ed Skrein in the role of mysterious mercenary Daario Naharis with Michiel Huisman.

Michiel Huisman Lands Role Of Daario

It’s unknown why Skrein will no longer inhabit the role of Daario, but trailers for Game of Thrones Season 4 show Huisman in the part and looking quite different that his predecessor. Skrein, with his devilish smile and long golden hair, played Daario as a flamboyant and passionate man, as well as an impossibly skilled assassin. In shots of the dark, curly-haired Huisman in the part, it looks like Daario is going to be even more toned down than the blue-haired version in the books for the foreseeable future.

Huisman, who stars as Liam McGuinnis on Nashville, is set to play a major part in the fourth season of Game of Thrones and to return for the HBO series’ fifth season as well. Alongside...

Game of Thrones: Get A Good Look At The New Mountain
This isn’t much of a spoiler, but we might as well label it as so just in case you’re on total lockdown from any information regarding Game of Thrones’ upcoming fourth season. While his role has been known for a while, there are aspects of Haftor Julius Bjornnson’s casting that hint at things to come. You wouldn’t be able to guess what Season 4 has in store for him, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be spoiled to the fact there is something coming that will involve him. So if you can, close your eyes so you don’t see Bjornsson all done up in costume as The Mountain.

Bjornnson posted the photo of himself to his Instagram, giving fans of Game of Thrones a good look at the latest interpretation of Ser Gregor Clegane Aka The Mountain That Rides Aka the older brother of Sandor Clegane.

'Game of Thrones' photo: Season 4's Mountain, Hafthor Julius Bjornsson
"Game of Thrones" fans can get their first look at Season 4's version of the character of The Mountain -- played by Hafthor Julius Bjornsson. The Icelandic actor posted a photo in costume via Instagram.

Related: First look at Red Viper and Ellaria Sand (and Bjornsson)

The character of Gregor Clegane, known as the Mountain because of his intimidating size, has previously been played by two other actors, Conan Stevens (in Season 1) and Ian Whyte (in Season 2). The Mountain did not appear in 2013's Season 3.

Note: Gregor Clegane is a notoriously awful person and will not likely have such a nice smile in "Game of Thrones."

Season 4 of "Game of Thrones" will air on HBO in the spring of 2014.

Game of Thrones Recasts The Mountain A Second Time
It sure feels like Season 4 is the season for recasting. Game of Thrones has announced its third recast for the upcoming season and this one might be the most surprising of all. On second thought, perhaps it was necessary. I’m sure we’ll get into all that, but first let’s talk about the man and whom he’ll be playing. Icelandic strongman competitor and actor Hafthor Julius Bjornsson is taking over as Gregor Clegane Aka The Mountain. Most non-book readers will simply know him as the older brother to Sandor Clegane Aka The Hound. The only question is why? What was wrong with the actor who played him previously?

Well, it’s not quite so simple as that. You see, this is the second time The Mountain has been recast, says THR. The first actor to play the part was Conan Stevens in Season 1. He was around for...

The role was previously played by Conan Stevens and Ian Whyte in the first two seasons. However the appearances were so minor as to make recasting a minor issue, especially as the character plays a larger role in upcoming seasons. [Source: Digital Spy]

Two More Actors Get Replaced For Game Of Thrones Season Four
Not long ago, we got word that the role of Tommen would be taken over by Dean-Charles Chapman for the currently-filming season four of the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, but apparently he’s not the only new actor taking over an already-existing character.

Even more recently, we had news that Michael Huisman had joined the cast of season four, but his role was not revealed at the time. However, it’s now being reported that he will be taking over the role of Daario Naharis, a role played by Ed Skrein in season three. This is a rather unusual move given that Skrein was doing a really good job with the part, making everyone speculate on whether it was his desire to leave or the showrunners’ decision to replace him. That being said, I find it hard to believe that the latter would be the reason.

The second...

Bloody Cuts Anthology Series Releases Its Slickest Entry Yet With Don't Move! Watch Now!
We've made no secret of our love for British anthology series Bloody Cuts. The team is assembling 13 short films to put together into one large project. And all the films have been outstanding. However, with Don't Move the Bloody Cuts team has outdone themselves.

Made in association with Millennium F/X, Don't Move is an amazing short film. The guys at Bloody Cuts have proven time and time again that they can build tension, but they do it better than ever in this picture. You will be absolutely blown away by the effects in this film. It contains a monster that is better quality than almost anything you've seen in feature films in years, and the death scenes are top notch. And by the way, the last death is absolutely stunning. Don't Move is a damn near perfect short film. #Awesome!

The film stars Rachel Bright, Ian Whyte, Jake Hendricks,...

James Purefoy in Solomon Kane (2009)
Title: Solomon Kane Director: Michael Bassett Starring: James Purefoy, Max Von Sydow, Pete Postlethwaite, MacKenzie Crook, Philip Winchester, Jason Flemyng, Ian Whyte, Rachel Hurd-Wood, Alice Krige With its achingly archetypal cold open – which unfolds in North Africa in the 1600s, and describes its setting as “a time of witchcraft and sorcery, when no one stood against evil” — writer-director Michael Bassett’s adaptation of the pulpy old Marvel Comics serial “Solomon Kane” seems poised for another rather dunderheaded dive into brawny action adventure swashbuckling. Amidst the backdrop of a bunch of grimy cretins, a hero with impossibly white teeth emerges, dispensing brutal justice. Somewhat improbably, however, this movie soon settles down into a [ Read More ]...

New Prometheus Set Photos Reveal Unseen Engineer Characters
Polarizing would be an apt term to describe Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, which has an avid detractor for every awed champion for the sci-fi epic. One thing that isn’t up for debate though is that this pseudo Alien prequel asks a great deal of cerebral questions without offering too many answers.

Today, the mystery continues to unravel as thanks to a group of set photos, we have a glimpse at some new characters from the puzzling opening sequence that were cut from the theatrical release.

It was also revealed recently that Scott plans to include 20 to 30 minutes of deleted scenes when Prometheus hits DVD and Blu-Ray later this year. Some of those scenes will only be available as special features while others will be viewable through an extended, director’s cut.

With Prometheus now in its second weekend of release, Scott and co. are now teasing those future scenes through the images below,...
