2012 Spooky Movie Film Festival: Official Lineup
For their seventh annual edition, the Spooky Movie International Horror Film Festival is really blowing things up!

Well, not literally. But the world’s premiere horror movie fest is expanding to over double its regular size, screening over 50 films on nine terrifying nights Oct. 10-18 at its new home, the prestigious AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The scares kick off on the 10th with the return of local fave filmmaker Richard Bates, Jr. with the feature-length version of Excision about a teenage girl obsessed with becoming a surgeon. The film co-stars John Waters, Malcolm McDowell and Traci Lords. Bates’ original short Excision on which the feature is based screened at Spooky Movie back in 2008.

A few other Spooky Movie alumni who are back with highly anticipated new films include Mike Davis‘ “green” horror movie President Wolfman, which is composed entirely of public domain footage mixed with a rip-roarin...

Spooky Movie Presents: A Midsummer’s Night Scream
Washington, D.C.’s Spooky Movie Film Festival presents their 4th annual A Midsummer’s Night Scream screening series. Over four weekends from July to September, they will be screening 6 horror feature films and over three hours of short films.

Most have not received distribution on DVD yet. Films include the bloody good Australian hit El Monstro Del Mar!, directed by Stuart Simpson; the necrophiliac love story Morgue Story, directed by Paulo Biscaia Filho and the return of the Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, with The Uh-Oh Show.

Plus, on August 6, horror hosting legend Count Gore De Vol will present an evening of scary, spooky, gory, blood-drenched short films, as well as an...

Creation's Weekend of Horrors Recap!!
Creation Entertainment held their Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles last, well, weekend, and Hug a Zombie was there!

Creation Entertainment held their Weekend of Horrors in Los Angeles last, well, weekend, and HugaZombie was there! While most of the events were not zombie-related (odd, considering the proximity to the opening of George Romero's Survival of the Dead), so instead the Nightmare on Elm Street documentary Never Sleep Again was the focus, as well as panels featuring the stunt men who played both Michael Myers and Jason and a finale presentation with Dario Argento.

Here are a few highlights:

-Hey, Hatchet fans: Hatchet writer/director Adam Green revealed that Hatchet 2 will feature 17 death scenes, compared to the 7 of the original. The Hatchet 2 panel was terrific and the highlight of the weekend, with two clips shown of the movie.

- Stopped by to say hello to Joe Pilato...

Gay Of The Dead 26: Big Bear Horror Film Fest Recap, Part 2
Part 2 of the Big Bear Horror Film Festival recap. Read Part 1 here.

Saturday

After being up way too late the night before watching Golden Girls and Sex And The City reruns in my hotel room (P.S., I’m totally gay), it was time to get back to the Big Bear Horror Film Festival for a really great film, Die-ner (Get It?).

Yes, the “Get It?” is part of the film title, which I’m now publicly begging the filmmakers to change. Why? Because this film is so much smarter than the title. Die-ner (Get It?) is a well directed, well written and well acted serial-killer-plus-zombie flick that makes great use of its limited resources. I don’t want to give too much away, but I definitely recommend Patrick Horvath’s awesome motion picture.

As we walk out of the theater for a quick break, J.T. Seaton* and Michael Simon* join our gay horror cabal.
