Superman is a highly anticipated movie with a lot riding on it. Among them is how people look at the future of James Gunn’s Dcu. So far, the reviews have been promising, with fans saying it’s one of the best live-action Superman projects. Sadly, people are complaining that the story is “too woke” because it focuses on Kal-El being an immigrant in America.
The funny thing about this narrative is that this has been a major part of Clark’s story since his debut. Seeing it on screen may be new to some, but it’s well-known to anyone who’s read a comic book that featured Superman. It’s not something he’s hidden. In fact, it’s something he’s proud of.
Because of the negative talk, it seemed like a good time to bring up other popular heroes and villains who aren’t from America.

Watch the Trailer for M3GAN 2.0: "The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time she’s not alone.
The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0.
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.
Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia, the ultimate killer infiltration spy.

Late last year, a rumor did the rounds that the highly-anticipated second season of X-Men '97 wouldn't premiere until 2026, and the lengthy wait has now been confirmed by Marvel's Brad Winderbaum.
"Season 2 of X-Men ‘97 is going to be in ‘26. We're working on it now," Winderbaum tells Collider. "It's exciting. That world of the ‘90s is just… Honestly, I can't believe they let me make it. I grew up at Marvel, as you know, clocked a lot of time here, and I feel like I used a lot of currency to revive this thing that I loved watching after school. So, the fact that we get to play in that universe with those actors is honestly why I went into this business in the first place."
When asked if we could expect more animated shows - and possibly a feature - to be announced soon, Winderbaum played it a little closer to the vest.

It seems that fans of X-Men '97 now know when they will see the animated Marvel show return, but it is not going to be as soon as expected. While many fans believed that the new season would roll out this year, Marvel Studios exec Brad Winderbaum revealed in an interview with Collider that Season 2 will not hit Disney+ until 2026. He said:

2024 has been a complicated year for superhero fans. While it was dubbed as "the worst year for comic book movies" in over two decades, Marvel Cinematic Universe streaming options finally seemed to figure out how to stand on their own two feet. For Marvel in particular, it has been a year of high highs and very low lows.
From the comics to their streaming series, the company has made some brilliant moves in the last year. This was much needed after last year's series of flops. But there were also some major parts of the overall Marvel universe that we could have done without.
Here, we break down the four best decisions and moments from Marvel in 2024, along with three that never should have happened.
(L-r): Bishop (voiced by Isaac Robinson-Smith), Cyclops (voiced by Ray Chase), Magneto (voiced by Matthew Waterson), and Morph (voiced by Jp Karliak) in Marvel Animation's X-men '97.

Now that the year is coming to a close, it’s safe to say that one of the things that will be best remembered by those who consumed media in 2024 is X-Men ‘97. The Marvel animated series served as a continuation of X-Men: The Animated Series, which went off the air in 1996 and was thought to never be coming back. Iron Studios is celebrating X-Men ‘97 being the highest-rated Marvel project of the year – and of all time – by releasing a new figure of one of the characters who made that accomplishment possible: Magneto, voiced brilliantly by Matthew Waterson. The Magneto figure is set to launch in the third quarter of 2025, and retail for $179.99 (which is on the low end for Iron Studios).

On the same weekend that Iron Studios unveiled a new figure of Magneto (Matthew Waterson) from X-Men ‘97, the company is now going back to the mutant well to reveal a collectible from another of the show’s iconic characters. On its official Instagram, Iron Studios showcased the first look at a Cyclops (Ray Chase) figure based on his appearance in the hit Disney+ series that aired earlier this year. The new Cyclops figure comes in at ¼ size, bigger than the traditional ⅙ size, and sees the famous X-Men leader atop a stand with his right hand on the side of his glasses, the same position he assumes when he uses his optic blast. The figure retails for a whopping $799.99 and is now available for pre-order on IronStudios.com, shipping out in the third quarter of 2025.

We're onto the next phase of the Bam Smack Pow comic book tournament. The most recent battle was all about people with “phenomenal” power. It looked at the characters whose abilities are too strong to be in other fights, but maybe not strong enough to be with either the heroes or villains bracket. Some of the results were shocking.
Let's take a look at them:
John Constantine over Johnny Storm (79% to 21%)Charles Xavier over Shazam (82% to 18%)Iceman over Hyperion (73% to 27%)Reverse Flash over Emma Frost (64% to 36%)Kang The Conqueror over the Invisible Woman (58% to 42%)Starfire over Vision (65% to 44%)Doctor Fate over Spawn (62% to 38%)Martian Manhunter over Atom Eve (61% to 39%)
We’ve seen round 1 of the superheroes, supervillains, superhero and supervillain fighters, and geniuses. This bracket is full of people whose abilities are powerful, but they’re so random that it was difficult to find where to put them.

Back in March, the surprising news broke that Marvel Studios/Disney had fired X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo shortly before the animated revival show's world premiere.
Since then, the internet has been rife with rumors and speculation about what might have led to DeMayo's dismissal, and last month, Marvel finally released a statement on the matter.
"Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation. Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel."
Though no specific details were revealed, we have since heard that DeMayo was terminated for sending lewd photos to members of his staff, and there have been further reports of him being physically and sexually inappropriate with several of his colleagues.
DeMayo has denied this, suggesting that his firing was simply due to homophobia, and claiming that he was stripped of his X-Men '97...

It would be the understatement of the century to say Scott Summers, aka the X-Man and superhero Cyclops (Ray Chase), has experienced a rough time in X-Men '97. The first season of the hit animated series, a revival of the classic X-Men: The Animated Series, put Cyclops through a veritable wringer of emotionally devastating events. Cyclops saw his longtime foe, Magneto (Matthew Waterson), take over leadership of the X-Men and ownership of the Xavier Institute. But that pales in comparison to Cyclops learning that his wife, Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale), was a clone! Mr. Sinister (Christopher Britton) replaced the real Jean Grey with a clone way back in the 1990s show! Not only that, Cyclops was forced to give up his infant son Nathan and send him to the future after Sinister infected the child with the Techno-virus. In one episode, Cyclops loses both his marriage and his newborn son.

Disney has now overtaken Hollywood in much the same way the iconic movie monster The Blob takes over its victims, with the House of Mouse growing ever larger and more powerful as it absorbs everything in its path. One such property that has been assimilated into the Disney bubble is Marvel Studios, and now, a hugely talented artist has imagined what The X-Men might look like should they ever get the true Disney treatment.
Sporting the kind of big eyes and wry smiles that we are so used to seeing on the faces of Disney princesses and princes, artist @MarkBrooksArt has given the familiar style to a whole host of Marvel mutants. With incredible results. You can check out the Disney/X-Men artwork below.

Beau DeMayo was fired as X-Men '97 showrunner back in March prior to the show's world premiere, but he had already completed work on the scripts for the second season of the acclaimed animated revival series.
Now, Marvel Studios has hired a new scribe to replace him for the in-development season 3, with Deadline reporting that Matthew Chauncey, who has previously worked on episodes of What If...? and Ms. Marvel, will succeed DeMayo as head writer on X-Men '97.
Chauncey will work alongside director Jake Castorena, with original '90s series EPs Larry Houston and Eric and Julia Lewald remaining on board as consulting producers.
Exact season 2 plot details are still under wraps, but during a recent interview with Discussing Film, Castorena was asked if they intend to hold on to the '90s aesthetic, and if he anticipates the show taking influence from later comic book runs for the second season.

Before this, Winderbaum conveyed that Season 3 is already in development, professing that just like X-Men: The Animated Series drafted "so heavily from Chris Claremont's work," the production team is continuing that.
In a recent interview with The Official Marvel Podcast (via ComicBookMovie.com), Winderbaum was asked if there was anything there that he thought people should keep an eye out for as they've "just finished watching it," to which he replied, "We've got big plans for the second season. I've already seen all the animatics and we're well on our way to creating something that hits the heights of the first season. I know the first season is an emotional ride; that ride continues in a very X-Men fashion in the second season."

X-Men '97 cast members Matthew Waterson and Ross Marquand recently discussed Magneto's arc on the show and whether the character's distrust and harsh retaliation against humankind was justified. Waterson and Marquand play Magneto and Professor Charles Xavier, respectively.

More than just a nostalgia trip, the updated series brought back many of the former creatives from the original series in order to stay true to the 1990s sensibilities but push the envelope of what a modern-day X-Men series could look like. Following the fall of Genosha, X-Men ’97 deals with the complex relationships between mutants and humans alongside the ramifications of Professor Xavier abandoning his team of mutants and leaving his formidable nemesis Magneto in charge.

The changes made to Morph's character in X-Men '97 are intentional and important for representation, says creator Beau DeMayo. Showrunner DeMayo defends the romantic implications between Morph and Wolverine, calling any denial "offensive." Larry Houston sees Morph's shapeshifting ability as equivalent to being nonbinary, addressing backlash faced by the show.
Beau DeMayo, the showrunner for the first season of the Marvel animated series X-Men 97, has responded to the depiction of the character Morph and the implied feelings they have towards fellow X-Man, Wolverine. The sequel series made several changes to Morph compared to the original 90s run, making the character nonbinary and changing them from a thin-faced, dark-haired man into a character with light gray skin, a bald head, white eyes, and no nose. Taking to social media, DeMayo defended this latest iteration, calling any denial regarding their sexuality offensive and straight-washing.

X-Men... 2000?
Although the recent Disney+ show served as a revival of an animated series that aired 25 years ago, the decision was made to keep the action rooted firmly in the original era. But with season 2 already confirmed and reports that Marvel Studios fully intends to keep the show going for as long as possible, could the mutant heroes make the jump into the noughties?
During an interview with Discussing Film, supervising director Jake Castorena was asked if they intend to hold on to the '90s aesthetic, and if he anticipates the show taking influence from later comic book runs for the second season.
"We touched on that, even in season one with E is for Extinction, which was definitely not of the ’90s run per se but in the zeitgeist of the era that came a little later," he replied. "Once so much time passes, that’s pretty much...

Despite being fired as X-Men '97 showrunner (the details are still sketchy) shortly before the series premiered on Disney+, Beau DeMayo has remained active on social media, sharing intriguing insights into the development of the animated revival show and revealing some of his key influences.
DeMayo has previously explained how the iconic "Superman takes flight" sequence from Zack Snyder's Man of Steel inspired a similar moment from episode 6 featuring Storm regaining her powers, and has now revealed that a different scene may have "subconsciously influenced" Rogue attacking the villainous Bastion in the recent season finale.
This was yet another standout moment for Rogue, who unleashed the full extent of her power while channelling the pain and rage she felt after losing Gambit in the Genosha massacre
I was likely subconsciously influenced by this when writing the #xmen97 finale beat of Rogue punching Bastion. That’s not Superman hammering Zod.

While the MCU has been a cultural mainstay on big and small screens for the better part of two decades, Marvel Animation went back to Marvel's roots this year with a nostalgia-filled blast-from-the-past and it paid off. X-Men '97, the continuation of the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series, proved to be a massive hit for the studio, as fansboth new and oldimmersed themselves in the soap opera-style exploits of everyone's favorite mutants. When you picture Charles Xavier and his X-Men, it's hard not to also think about their friend and foe, Erik Lehnsherr, better known as his alter ego Magneto. Magneto may have played a smaller role in The Animated Series than he has in other iterations of the story, but the first season of X-Men '97 made up for all of that lacking screen-time with a phenomenally well-crafted storyline for the character, voiced by Matthew Waterson.

The season 1 finale of Marvel Studios' acclaimed animated series, X-Men '97, hit Disney+ last Wednesday, and the events of "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3" may have given us a pretty good idea of which characters will be undergoing a major personality change when the show returns for its second season.
If you haven't watched the episode yet, spoilers follow.
In the closing moments of the drama-filled finale, the team managed to defeat Bastion and prevent Asteroid M from destroying the planet, but the heroes ended up being transported through time in the process (by who or what remains to be seen).
Xavier (Ross Marquand), Magneto (Matthew Waterson), Rogue (Lenore Zann), Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough), and Beast (George Buza) find themselves in Egypt in the year 3,000 B.C., where they encounter a younger En Sabah Nur (Adetokumboh M'Cormack); while Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale) and Cyclops (Ray Chase) land way into the future in the year 3960 A.

X-Men '97 was a big hit with critics right from the start, but the Disney+ revival series has now become the highest-rated Marvel Studios project - live-action or animated, big or small screen - in the 16-year history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
With more reviews now counted for last Wednesday's season finale, X-Men '97 has reached a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This takes it past Marvel's previous top-rated Disney+ show, Ms. Marvel (98%), and movie, Black Panther (96%), to become the most positively-reviewed MCU project of all time on the popular aggregator site.
The series wasn't only a critical favourite, as Deadline reports that May 15th's cameo-filled finale, "Tolerance is Extinction, Part 3," amassed a whopping 3.5 million views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform, making it the most-viewed full-length animated series finale since Season 1 of What If…?.

Exclusive: The finale of X-Men ’97 has set a promising track record for Disney+.
The episode, which debuted on May 15, saw 3.5M views globally in its first five days on the streaming platform. That makes it the most-viewed full-length animation series finale since Season 1 of What If…?, the Walt Disney Company says.
According to Disney, viewership had been growing consistently over the four episodes leading to the finale.
X-Men ’97 premiered in March with 4M views collectively across the first two episodes in their first five days on the platform.
The exact breakdown of viewership for each episode is unclear, but regardless it does indicate a strong, growing interest for the animated series, since the finale alone was nearly able to match the audience of the first two episodes in the same time frame.
As an added bonus, Disney also says that viewership for the original 1992 X-Men animated series has doubled since X-Men ’97 premiered.

Things are getting complicated for the Summers-Grey family again, so it must be a day ending in "y." X-Men '97 concludes its first season with Episode 10, "Tolerance Is Extinction Part 3," which might as well have been subtitled "an emotional thrill ride from start to finish." That finish, in particular, carries extra flourish thanks to a trio of interlocking cliffhangers. The world may believe the X-Men and Magneto (Matthew Waterson) dead after their planet-saving efforts, but what looks like the team vanishing into thin air instead leaves them displaced across time. Scott Summers/Cyclops (Ray Chase) and Jean Grey (Jennifer Hale) find themselves inexplicably alone in 3960 A.D., a desolate landscape home to a youthful version of their son, Nathan Summers/Cable (Chris Potter).

X-Men '97 voice actor Matthew Waterson has shared his thoughts that Magneto could have easily defeated Thanos in the MCU. Magneto's mastery of magnetism could have allowed him to steal the Infinity Gauntlet and render Thanos powerless. Thanos has much more brute strength than Magneto, and could easily take down the X-Men foe when enhanced with the Infinity Stones.

As X-Men '97 approaches the end of its first season, the Sentinels take center stage thanks to the big villain, Bastion (Theo James). Himself a human-Sentinel hybrid, Bastion introduced the concept of Prime Sentinels to the animated series, which pose a whole new threat to mutants everywhere. Thankfully, they were mostly disabled by Magneto (Matthew Waterson) at the end of Episode 8, "Tolerance is Extinction Part 1." This does pose the question of how many types of Sentinels there are, though. Just in X-Men '97, there have been appearances by regular Sentinels, a Master Mold, and now the Prime Sentinels, so what else may still show up to make the lives of our X-Men even more difficult?...

X-Men ’97 could secure most of the original cast from X-Men: The Animated Series, who returned to the show with great enthusiasm to essay the roles that they took over two decades ago. However, given that some actors had passed away in the time between the two shows, a slew of parts, including that of Magneto, had to be recast for the sequel series.

After an exciting, often shocking run of episodes, the season 1 finale of X-Men '97 hits Disney+ next Wednesday, and (former) showrunner Beau DeMayo has shared some "homework" for fans who might want a cryptic hint about what to expect from "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3."

X-Men '97's latest episode has a very tongue-in-cheek line regarding the mutant heroes' costumes; when Cyclops (Ray Chase) tosses his son Cable (Chris Potter) a blue and yellow X-Men uniform, the time-traveling soldier asks: "Am I going to war, or a circus?" Cyclops responds: "What did you expect, black leather?" This is an inversion of a similar line he said in Bryan Singer's first X-Men film, and it's ironic given how far the superhero genre has come as well as the fact that the X-Men don new costumes. "Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 2" sees the X-Men split into two groups: Blue Team, led by Cyclops, travels to Asteroid M to confront Magneto (Matthew Waterson) while Gold Team, led by Storm, attempts to stop Bastion (Theo James) once and for all. Their new costumes are a nod to various points of the X-Men's history, as well as another X-Men animated project.

The outfits are a mixture of the team's classic looks, and the costumes they wore in the pages of The Uncanny X-Men. The clip also sees Jubilee burn Roberto DaCosta's business card, so Sunspot must have decided not to join the fight.
Former showrunner Beau DeMayo hinted at the costume change when he shared the unused pilot for Pryde of the X-Men earlier today.
DeMayo was also asked if he's ever heard any talk of adding Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat to the X-Men '97 roster.
"I haven’t, but my suspicion is Jubilee and Kitty slightly compete in terms of their age and Pov on the team.

"Magneto was right..."
Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.
DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.
Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.
Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

Magneto is one of the most beloved characters in the X-Men world, and despite him always being portrayed as the antagonist, this morally grey figure has something that draws fans in with his charisma and depth of personality.

“One of my favorite things about Magneto as a character is that he is ideologically driven. He is not a liar.

The following contains major spoilers from X-Men '97 Season 1, Episode 5, "Remember It," now streaming on Disney+.
The serialized storytelling in X-Men '97 has become one of the show's high points -- not just creating a worthwhile narrative, but also helping with its world-building. Season 1, Episode 5, "Remember It," gets back to the series' ongoing storyline by focusing in on a small mention from its Jubilee-centric video game adventure: that the mutant island of Genosha is becoming part of the United Nations.
But the episode uses that more as a jumping-off point to resolve the two interpersonal conflicts that have been brewing since the series' premiere: the tension between Jean Grey and Scott Summers, and the love triangle between Rogue, Gambit and Magneto. Once those dynamics are satisfactorily touched upon, "Remember It" follows X-Men '97's pattern of launching into the next problem... and does so on a grand scale that makes...
