'The Villain' director Prem to star in 'Gandhigiri'
SandalwoodThe film will be directed by Raghu Haasan.Tnm StaffDirector Prem’s The Villain hit the marquee and has completed 50 days at the box office successfully. Being a multi starrer, it has Shiva Rajkumar and Kiccha Sudeep in the lead roles. The Villain’s collections at the box office were good but there were some controversies over it. Shiva Rajkumar’s fans were not happy over the way his role in the film was shaped and eventually, the director, unable to bear the trolls, filed a police complaint. Then came a tweet from Sudeep making sarcastic remarks about the film not being promoted post its release. Putting an end to all these controversies, Prem has begun to concentrate on his next project. He will not be wielding the megaphone for the film Gandhigiri but will be playing the main lead. 'Drama' review: This overly stretched Mohanlal film falls flat
MollywoodWhile there are a few moments of enjoyable scripting, these come and go in the blink of an eye.CrisDirector Ranjith, had in an interview, said that you’d see the ‘old Mohanlal’ in Drama. He must mean the actor before the times of superhero movies, some of which he had written. It is true Drama doesn’t have any of the superhero elements Mohanlal has come to be known for in the last couple of decades. No ‘po mone’s or ‘savari girigiri’s. No long stretches of monologues that end with slow-motion walk-aways. He plays instead an Nri man in trouble with his wife, thrown out of the house because of something he did. His job at a funeral company in London brings him in touch with a big Malayali family where a death has occurred. While you can, if you try, pick out a few, really few,...

Chaurahen: for the sake of ‘art’
Director: Rajshree Ojha, Writers: Rajshree Ojha, Anuvab Pal (based on the stories of Nirmal Verma), Actors: Victor Banerjee, Roopa Ganguly, Soha Ali Khan, Ankur Khanna, Kiera Chaplin etc.

There aren’t many literary adaptations in Indian cinema these days. So an effort to render Nirmal Verma’s stories on celluloid is a welcome endeavor. However, it is also a tad too ambitious. The stories that are simple yet delve into the complexities of human relationships may appear visually-oriented, but to hold them together cinematically via an engaging narrative demands much more than an adept ensemble cast. This is where Chaurahen disappoints: it limits itself to a high-flown, philosophical montage of scenes where it is difficult to identify with or feel for any of the characters. Because they spent most of their time philosophizing about life instead of behaving like mere mortals with motives. Not to mention, the fact that they...
