Why Joe Mantegna Is No Longer Hosting National Memorial Day Concert 2025 & Replacement Revealed
Image
Joe Mantegna is no longer hosting the 2025 National Memorial Day Concert on Sunday (May 25).

Two days after the announcement that the Tony-winning actor would be co-hosting with Gary Sinise in Washington D.C. as they’ve done for years, Capital Concerts announced that the 77-year-old Criminal Minds actor would not be hosting this year and that actor Esai Morales would be stepping in instead.

At the time, there was no reasoning given for the replacement, but now we know why.

Keep reading to find out more…

In an Instagram post on Saturday (May 24), Joe explained why he is unable to return to his hosting duties for the first time since 2006 – and it has to do with a health issue.

“Though I’m grounded and can’t fly this weekend due to an ear issue, my heart is very much with my dear friends @esai_morales and @garysiniseofficial as they lead...

Vanessa Williams to Host America's Independence Day Celebration, A Capitol Fourth
Image
Capital Concerts has announced the 41st annual A Capitol Fourth, America’s Independence Day celebration on PBS, will be hosted by multi-platinum recording artist and star of television, film and the Broadway stage Vanessa Williams.

Planning has been underway for many months for A Capitol Fourth to be a pre-recorded show due to the pandemic with a live fireworks presentation, in lieu of the traditional live concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The nation’s 245th birthday celebration will feature Williams hosting and performing from Washington, D.C. All-new pre-taped performances from locations across the country will feature top stars from pop, country, R&b, classical and Broadway. PBS’s ‘A Capitol Fourth’ Will Feature Pre-Taped Concert And Live D.C. Fireworks
Image
Vanessa Williams will host this year’s Independence Day celebration A Capitol Fourth, with plans for a pre-taped concert and live fireworks from Washington, D.C.

The city has lifted almost all Covid-19 restrictions, and President Joe Biden is planning an event at the White House that day, his goal for having at least 70% of the country with at least one Covid-19 shot.

But producers have been planning the show for months, with Covid-19 forcing them to set aside the traditional live concert on the west lawn of the Capitol.

Among those who will perform at the event are Jimmy Buffett, Cynthia Erivo, Alan Jackson, Pentatonix, Jennifer Nettles, Auli’i Cravalho, Train, Gladys Knight, Mickey Guyton, Ali Stroker, Jimmie Allen and Laura Osnes. The National Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Jack Everly, will perform John Williams’ Olympic Fanfare, honoring U.S. participation in the upcoming Summer Games. The orchestra and...

National Memorial Day Concert To Feature 9/11 Tribute As 20th Anniversary Approaches
Image
This year’s National Memorial Day Concert, the annual tribute to members of the military and their families, will once again be a pre-taped event with performances and tributes from around Washington and other parts of the country, but that doesn’t mean that it’s any less moving.

The Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions on the Capitol grounds prevent the traditional large-scale live concert, but producers have planned a lineup that includes Gladys Knight, Vince Gill, Sara Bareilles, Alan Jackson, Denyce Graves, The Four Tops and Brian d’Arcy James, along with Kathy Baker and Joe Morton.

Among the highlights will be a commemoration of the 20th anniversary of 9/11, in which Steve Buscemi hosts a segment against a backdrop of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum in New York. “A morning that began so sunny and bright was the beginning of America’s darkest hours, images that can never be erased from memory,...

National Memorial Day Concert To Proceed With Taped Performances, Service Member Tributes
Image
The National Memorial Day Concert will again forgo the live setting on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol in favor of a series of taped performances, with plans for the event to commemorate 9/11 and Gold Star families, along with other tributes.

The May 30 event, honoring active military, veterans and their families, has traditionally gone live with the Capitol and National Mall as a backdrop, but the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has scuttled plans for a large-scale concert gathering.

Instead, producer Capital Concerts is shooting performances at key D.C. locations and elsewhere – sans Zoom segments. The lineup includes Colin Powell, Gladys Knight, Vince Gill, Sara Bareilles, Alan Jackson, Denyce Graves, The Four Tops, Brian d’Arcy James and the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jack Everly. There also will be a Salute to Services with the Joint Chiefs of Staff from the Pentagon, and a special message from General Mark A. Milley,...

PBS’s ‘A Capitol Fourth’ Plans Virtual Event With Tribute To First Responders, Essential Workers
Image
The continued coronavirus pandemic has forced the cancellation of a live Independence Day concert on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, but producers are planning a virtual event for PBS.

National Memorial Day Concert Returns To PBS As A Much Different Show, But With A Similar Unifying Message
Image
At this point in years past, the producers and performers of the National Memorial Day Concert typically are in a mad rush to prepare for the live show on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol, hoping for clear skies and few glitches.

This year, much of the show is already done. As with so many other large events forced to cancel amid the coronavirus crisis, this year’s show will be dramatically different, more of a virtual concert. But the creators of the event believe that it will take on a special resonance.

“These important rituals and holidays have a whole meaning for all of this time too,” said executive producer Michael Colbert. “We are certainly completely focused on what Memorial Day is, but I feel like at this time it is touching so many of us today.”

There was no question that the National Memorial Day Concert, to...

Music Icon Carole King Clarifies ‘Capitol Fourth’ Performance: So Far Away From Trump
Carole King
Music icon Carole King wants everyone to know that she’s performing – along with Broadway’s Beautiful cast – as part of PBS’ traditional A Capitol Fourth event, and most definitely not as part of President Donald Trump’s “political rally.”

I am Not participating in t’s political rally.”

The drawing’s foreground features King sitting at a piano on the lawn, with an American flag planted on the edge of the musical instrument.
