Non-Stop manages the difficult task of being a solid thriller as well as constantly silly, and the result is a film that was far more entertaining than I expected it to be.  Director Jaume Collet-Serra's previously filmography has been underwhelming to say the least, and his previous collaboration with star Liam Neeson, the thriller Unknown, was awful.  But paired with a solid script from John W. Richardson, Christopher Roach, and Ryan Engle, Collet-Serra keeps the story moving, the whodunit a constant question, and utilizes Neeson's performance to ground the picture so that our eye-rolls don't do a complete 360. For what it is, Non-Stop is a satisfying thriller, but it's a standard whodunnit with a slight psychological bend that, had it been pursued to the end, would have actually made it the Hitchcockian thrill ride some are going to attempt to peg it as being. However, to do that would have taken a lot more nerve than a director of Jaume Collet-Serra's standing has shown to possess, though you could argue Orphan (which went all the way to the other side) was more ballsy than most films we get today, even if I wasn't much of a fan, though more as a result of the filmmaking not the actual narrative. Returning to the action/thriller genre, Non-Stop was at the American Film Market, and following its appearance there, the first synopsis has made its way online, promising plenty more action from the duo.

Liam Neeson stars as an air marshall who receives text messages from someone who claims to be on his same flight, and is threatening to kill passengers on board. We reported last week that Nate Parker also stars as a passenger who helps the air marshall identify the threat. No character details were given for Julianne Moore, Michelle Dockery, and Scoot McNairy's characters.

Jaume Collet-Serra is directing from a screenplay by Christopher Roach and John W. Richardson. Joel Silver, Andrew Rona, and Alex Heineman are producing, with StudioCanal fully financing the thriller. Production begins November 1 in New York City.
